Three high-grade limestone ores (CaO content over than 53 %) with different geological origin have been characterized for the synthesis of aragonite precipitated calcium carbonate. Limestone ores examined in this study showed different crystal particle size that cause difference in disintegration degree and surface area of the synthesized slaked limes. The limestone ore with smaller crystal particle size showed higher disintegration degree and also yielded slaked lime with smaller surface area, which is good for the synthesis of aragonite precipitated calcium carbonate. The synthesis of aragonite PCC using the limestone with a small crystal particle size was yielded needle-shaped aragonite with the aspect ratio of about 14. The slag produced in metallurgical smelting processes contains considerable amount of valuable metals. The present work focuses on recovery of copper value by froth flotation from the copper smelter slag. The slag samples are subjected to detailed characterization including automated quantitative mineralogy using Mineral Liberation Analyzer (MLA). The MLA results indicate that a part of copper is present in sulphide form in fayalite (iron-silicate) matrix and very poorly liberated. SEM-EDX analyses also reveal that a certain part of the copper is present within the fayalite (Fe-Ca-Si) matrix, perhaps either as lattice impurity or very fine grain. The copper smelter slag is ground in wet mode in a ball mill, to particle size distribution suitable for flotation. Subsequently, the slurry undergoes froth-flotation in lab-scale Denver-type flotation cell. Various combinations of sodium iso-propyl xanthate (SIPX) and alkyl hydroxamate collectors are used along with pine oil as frother. A multiple collector dosage is required for effective flotation of non-sulphide copper phases associated fayalite and alkyl hydroxamate is identified as one of the effective collector for non-sulphide minerals. The copper recovery can be enhanced by 7-10% with a combination of collectors as compared to conventional sulphide flotation using only xanthate type collectors. "The research aimed at developing an efficient and environmental frother,which was applied in the flotation of sulfide ores. The flotation properties of an efficient frother and pine oil have been studied relatively by flotation tests of lead and zinc sulfide ores. At the same time, the biodegradability of two kinds of frother has been studied by the method of biological respiratory curve. The test results show that the flotation properties of new frother are superior to pine oil such as flotation rate, dosage etc. and its biodegradability is superior to pine oil. INTRODUCTION Frother is a kind of important agent in flotation reagents.In practice, the criterion of the foaming performance of the frother is what is high and low according to flotation indexes. The difference of different minerals and flotation technologies has great influence on the foaming performance of frother, and it is very important to choose the corresponding frother. The type, dosage and selectivity of frother in flotation process must be considered carefully. In today's society, environmental protection and ecological protection are becoming more and more important, and the environmental and ecological damage from mine development has aroused increasingly more attention. The use of mine agents has promoted the development of mineral resources, greatly improves the recovering utilization of mineral resources, at the same time, the production and use of mine reagents also inevitably bring about pollution, and result some influence or damage in the ecological environment.The frother is a common kind of reagent in the flotation process of the concentrator. In many cases, the waste water in the concentrator can not be let out in the natural water because the higher content of the frother in the waste water results in higher index of COD.This will inevitably increase the cost of waste water treatment in the mine.Therefore, the choice of frother should not only consider its influence on the flotation index, but also consider its influence on environmental protection. Waste water treatment is a way to solve the waste water pollution, but it needs to cost a lot of fund, manpower and material resources.And the development of high efficiency pollution-free reagent is a good way to reduce the production cost of mining enterprises and reduce the environmental pollution."

"Zinc dust is used for the removal of primary impurities by cementation from the zinc sulphate electrolyte before electrowinning of zinc. However, the industrial zinc electrowinning plants has been reported that the zinc dust consumption is in large excess than the stoichiometric requirement. In the present investigation, morphology of the zinc dust has been altered by ball milling and utilized for the cementation of cadmium, which is one of the major impurity and compared the change in the rate of cementation with original zinc dust. Initially, 325 mesh size zinc dust was used for the optimization of the excess quantity of zinc dust to be used at a temperature of 50 °C. The chemical analysis of zinc dust before and after ball milling and morphology were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the solution was characterized by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The rate of cementation increased with increase in ball milling time. The residual precipitate obtained after filtration was also characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis. Finally experiments were conducted to study the effect of temperature and kinetics of cadmium cementation using first order reaction kinetics. Based on the integral method, the calculated activation energy for the cadmium cementation with 4-hours ball milled zinc dust was found to be 3.39 KJ/mole. INTRODUCTION Primary production of zinc in the world is carried out by hydrometallurgical route. The primary impurities in the neutralized zinc sulphate solution that cause negative effect on electrowinning are copper, cadmium, cobalt, and nickel. Copper diminishes the current efficiency and cadmium contaminates the cathode zinc (Morgan, 1977) while electro winning. Nickel and cobalt lead to perforation in the zinc deposit and prevents the electro winning process (Abrasheva et al, 1984). Due to higher electro positivity of these metal impurities than zinc, they can co-deposit with cathode zinc at the time of electrolysis. In addition to that, some possible impurities (including cobalt) in the electrolysis may lower the hydrogen overvoltage, allowing deposition of hydrogen at cathode resulting in fall of current efficiency. The deposition of zinc on the cathode is possible only at higher hydrogen overvoltage which is practicable in the absence of such impurities (Raghavan et al., 1999). Cementation is one of the prominent purification technique, and in that less reactive metal can be replaced by highly reactive metal by allowing them into precipitation. Cementation of cadmium from zinc sulphate electrolyte is being done by the addition of zinc dust."

More and more researches and applications of organic chelating agents as depressors or activators are carried out in the course of research and application of modern flotation. The paper puts forward the necessary condition of organic chelating agents as depressors or activators by analyzing the chelating chemical performance of organic chelating agents with metal ions and the stability of chelates formed by them; at the same time, puts forward four sufficient conditions of organic chelating agents as depressors or activators according to different hydrophilic capability of the chelates and different performance of depression and activation of organic chelating agents for minerals. Namely, the ?1+1/4? necessary and sufficient conditions of organic chelating agents as depressors or activators are put forward.

Due to complex mineralogical and chemical interactions of the value and gangue mineral phases present in uranium-containing lateritic ores, deleterious pulp gelation which impacts on value metal recovery sometimes occur during atmospheric leaching. In this study, the leaching behavior and particle interactions of selected oxide (hematite, quartz) and clay minerals (muscovite, chlorite), which constitute predominant host gangue phases of typical lateritic uranium ores are investigated to provide basic, mechanistic understanding of temporal pulp gelation phenomenon. Isothermal, batch leaching with H2SO4 was carried out on concentrated dispersions (30 ? 57 wt.%) of single minerals at pH 1 and 25 or 70 °C and their concomitant solution, speciation and rheology (shear yield stress, viscosity) were characterized. It is clearly shown that despite the high oxide content of lateritic ores, the pulp chemistry and rheology is largely affected by the incongruent leaching behavior of more reactive, acid-consuming aluminosilicate clays. Furthermore, time- and temperature-dependent alumino-silicate species polycondensation interfacial reactions are shown to be responsible for the enhanced particle interactions, reflecting strong pulp rheology in agitation and pumping. If not properly mitigated, high pulp shear yield stress and viscosity have a striking impact on processability and hence, value metal recovery.

"In recent years, metal producing companies have increased their investment in automation and technological innovation, embracing new opportunities to enable transformational change. Internet of Things (IoT) is one of many transformational initiatives, which can fundamentally revolutionize how industrial complexes operate. Whatever the issue, the answer is in the abundant and growing quantity of real time data and events collected in the grinding and flotation circuits in a mineral processing plant. Based on earlier work, today a grade recovery model permits identifying the best operating conditions in real time. We will review the strategy for increasing the value of the abundance instrumentation in current plants. An optimal Gaudin size distribution model provides augmented information from traditional sensors to find the optimal grind cut to reduce metal losses in the flotation circuits. The large amount of sensors in a flotation circuits permits to estimate the recovery and to find the optimal froth depth and aeration using an air holdup flotation model. The paper will describe the strategy of classifying data for on line generation of insights to using operational intelligence tools. We will discuss the implementation Recovery/Grind strategy with industrial examples in non-ferrous mineral processing and iron beneficiation.INTRODUCTIONThe declining supplies of high grade ores and increasing consumption of mineral and metal products have demanded higher operational efficiencies with minimum capital investments. The objective of copper flotation objectives are based on maximizing the dollars return on the concentrate produced. The economic efficiency is maximized by manipulating the circuit along the grade/recovery curve relationship. To achieve such objective improved stabilization of the grinding and flotation circuits are required (Oosthuizen, Craig, and Jamsa-Jounela, 2017)."

With shortage of sulfide nickel ores, laterite ore was paid more attention by scientists. Because its grade is commonly lower than sulfide nickel ores, laterite ore can not be utilized effectively be-coming the bottleneck of study. Leaching laterite ores from Yuanjing, Yunnan province, organic ac-ids show better selective than sulfide acid in nickel and cobalt recovery. Organic acid has low de-pendent on pH, keeping leaching capability even higher than 3. On the other side, when pH up to 2, sulfide acid can not leach laterite ores any more. After four kinds of organic acid leaching laterite ores, besides citrate, malate and succinate have good leaching and effectively selective capability. Especially, succinate has the best selective leaching capability of nickel and cobalt in four kinds of organic acids for latter anion purification and separation. Isolated from waste water with sugar, Aspergillus niger (zs1) has great capability to produce organic acids and vigorous growth. Laterite ores have been respectively processed by direct-leaching and indirect-leaching. Indirect-leaching gives a better result than direct-leaching. Extraction of nick-el by indirect-leaching reaches 44.3%, far more than that of direct-leaching. Moreover extraction of nickel at pulp density of 5% is higher than that at pulp density of 10%, reaching 63% in 11 days and extraction of cobalt also is 48.1% in the same period. Compared with nickel and cobalt, iron gives low extraction in solution, containing organic acids produced by Aspergillus niger .

The deposit genesis, the ore property, and the mineral characteristics, which has a close relationship with the beneficiablity, could be regarded as the “Genetic Properties”, actually are the determining factors for beneficiation process development. However, in conventional concentrator’s process development and engineering, there have been lack of systematic research and test on those genetic properties, also lack of well-established collecting, statistics and analysis system for those huge amount of data such as the historical mineral processing technique research, process mineralogy study, practical operating and engineering data. Obviously it is far less than enough for profound integration combining modern IT together with traditional mineral processing technology, as a result there are a number of disadvantages in mineral processing R&D and engineering, such as long term, high cost, low efficiency as well as repetitive testwork not making full advantage of previous experiences. Aiming to make utmost of those Genetic Properties and overcome above disadvantages in mineral processing R&D and engineering, the concept of “Genetic Mineral Processing Engineering (GMPE)” is put forwarded, and the strategical study has been conducted on this regard, with the main focus on following aspects: a) Testing and extraction of the “Genetic Properties”; b) Establishment of data base and data warehouse of GMPE; c) Intelligent decision making system for beneficiation process; d) Verification testwork; e) Virtual concentrator. The technical route proposed is to firstly conduct research and test on those Genetic Properties mentioned above, based on that the specific data base will be set up and applied for intelligent process recommendation and simulation with a few verification testwork conducted in the meantime, finally achieve a fast, high efficiency and precise determination of technology and process for ore beneficiation. The systematic study on the three-in-one GMPE would make an innovative breakthrough in conventional mineral process testwork research and engineering methodology, and provide technical support for the concentrator’s design and upgrading.

"Based on PMA polymer, two kinds of novel macromolecular depressants, PMTA and PMA-PDTC, were designed and synthesized. PMTA was used for desilication in hematite reverse flotation. PMA-PDTC was used in the separation of Cu-Pb concentrate as galena depressant. The micro-flotation results showed that PMTA exhibited a good depression performance compared to starch. We found that 98.29% of hematite was depressed with a grade of 65.24% at pH 11 with 12 mg/L dosage. The flotation separation results of Cu-Pb concentrate demonstrated that PMA-PDTC was an effective depressant for galena in separating galena from chalcopyrite. When IPETC was used as collector, at pH 8.5, the flotation separation tests demonstrated that Cu concentrate was obtained with a grade of 28.89% containing 12.12% Pb.INTRODUCTIONThe role of depressants is crucial in the separation of oxide or sulfide minerals, for example, the desilication in hematite concentrate and the separation of Cu-Pb concentrate.It is well known that, in current reverse flotation processing of hematite, starch is a traditional depressant for hematite. Most research focus on the modification of starch [1-3]. Although its depressing ability is enhanced in some extent, its own shortcomings is still existed. So, it is important to develop a new hematite depressant instead of starch.In the separation of chalcopyrite and galena, because of their extremely similar floatability, it is difficult to realize the separation of these two minerals. Traditionally, there are two methods widely used in the separation of Cu-Pb concentrate by depressing chalcopyrite with cyanide [4] or depressing galena with dichromate [5] in most cases. However, these two inorganic depressants are toxic and hazardous. Their use could cause heavy pollution problems and a large loss of precious metals. In order to adapt to the requirements of sustainable economic development and environmental protection, the research and development of green and environmental depressant has gained more and more significance."

Today, large size mechanical flotation cells of 100 to 300 m3 are used in rougher operation in different flotation industrial plants, in Chile and worldwide. However, in spite of the advances in fundamental research and the notable growing in equipment size, with more complete instrumentation systems, there are still a lack of reliable data for industrial flotation modeling and simulation to advance in better control systems design. In this work, a model of a rougher flotation circuit, based on operating variables and parameters fitted from industrial data, obtained in some previous work, is used to develop a set of logic rules in order to aid operating decisions. The simulator was first used to sensitize the effect of changing the froth depth profile on target variables, and then to find out the best profile to reject common disturbances coming into the plant. The flotation circuit simulator was redesigned to incorporate an expert system following the proposed control algorithm. Several tests were performed to evaluate the control responses to different correlated series of input variables, such as feed grade, tonnage, particle size distribution, and solid percentage. Electrochemical behaviors of synthetic and natural enargite in buffer solutions have been investigated using open circuit potential, stationary polarization and cyclic voltammetry as functions of solution pH, scan direction, scan range, scan rate and dissolved O2. The results indicate that the electrochemical behaviors of synthetic and natural enargite are very similar; solution pH, scan direction, scan range and scan rate have remarkable effects on the electrochemical behavior of enargite while dissolved O2 has little effect on the electrochemical behavior of enargite. The potential range in which enargite possesses the ability of passivation is from ?0.9 V to + 0.83 V vs. SCE. Enargite is most stable in neutral and alkaline solution around potential ?0.2 V vs. SCE. The main oxidation products on enargite surface in alkaline solution are Cu(OH)2 while the potential imposed on it is within the range of ?0.2 V to 0.33 V vs. SCE and Cu(OH)2 + S0while the potential applied is higher than 0.52 V vs. SCE.

In sodium oleate and salicylhydroxamic acid systems, sequence of floatability of three sulfate minerals is: barite>celestite>gypsum, in lauryl amine system is: gypsum>celestite>barite. XPS and infrared spectrum analysis are used to find that it is chemical reaction between sodium oleate and three minerals, physical adsorption on the surface of minerals for lauryl amine, and it is chelating reaction between salicylhydroxamic acid and three minerals possibly. Theoretical calculation on chemical bonds in crystal structures of three minerals is carried out, finding that breaking degree of Mn+?O2- in crystal structures of three sulfate minerals is closed related with floatability.

Based on Slurry Electrolysis, and combined with the problems of extraction antimony, lead and their separation from complicated antimony-lead concentrate, a series of tests have been done in this paper. Using Slurry Electrolysis to treat complicated antimony-lead concentrate, antimony and lead can be separated in one step. And 2# metal antimony can be achieved in cathode directly at the same time. Lead in concentrate is restrained still in the residue at the form of PbCl2. After converting the residue with ammonium carbonate and removing sulfur with kerosene, the high quality of lead concentrate (Pb is above 45%, S is below 15%) and pure sulfur can be achieved, respectively. The recovery of all in Slurry Electrolysis process is as: Sb 95%, Pb 95%, Ag 80%, S 60%.

N-Methyl-2-pyrollidone (NMP) has already been proven a good solvent for extraction of coal. It is believed that organic components of coal are likely to be dissolved with the solvolytic power of NMP. During dissolution process, original coal also gets disintegrated and thus helps in further extraction. Coal extraction highly depends on temperature, coal to solvent ratio, N-Methyl-2-pyrollidone (NMP) to Ethylenediamine (EDA) ratio and the size of coal particles. The process has been established in the laboratory. There is no reference available beyond lab scale. In present study, we are running a bench scale plant with 40 kg/batch capacity. Design of experiment was done in such a way that the optimum zone of the process gets evaluated for clean coal having low ash with high yield. Bench scale plant trial was conducted based on optimum zone developed during design of experiments (DOE). From the DOE analysis it was observed that feed size and coal to solvent ratio are important parameters for this process. Total 27 experiments (four factors with 3 level of variation) were designed through Box-Behnken model. It was observed that -0.5 mm feed size of coal, 150 °C extraction temperature, 17:1 NMP to EDA ratio, 1:9 coal to solvent ratio was optimum conditions. The results obtained at optimum conditions are 50% clean coal yield with 5% ash.

The effect of particle shape on the flotation process has been investigated in laboratory experiments with monosized spherical ballotini and roughly ground ballotini. The particles were treated by partial methylation with trimethylchlorosilane to achieve varying degrees of hydrophobicity. In flotation, the process of film thinning and liquid drainage is critical in the formation of a stable bubble-particle attachment and this is affected by the particle shape and surface hydrophobicity. The rate of attachment affects the overall flotation rate. Flotation tests with different particle sizes at various degrees of partial methylation have been performed in a modified Denver cell. Predictions from a computational fluid dynamic model of the cell which incorporates fundamental aspects of bubble-particle attachment are compared against flotation test results. Contact angles of the particles have also been measured using the capillary rise technique to indicate surface hydrophobicity.

The state discharge standard for arsenic-containing wastewater which is the first kind of pollution is less than 0.5 mg/L. In fact, in a certain company, the acidic arsenic-containing wastewater in non-ferrous smelting was as high as 860 mg/L, which is far beyond the state discharge standard. Obviously, the direct release of this wastewater without further treatment would result in great hazards to the ecological environment. To aim directly at the characteristics of acidic arsenic-containing wastewater, in this study, two steps of treatment including oxidation-flocculation and removal fluoride by mixing alkaline neutralization were suggested. Through analyzing various influencing factors in treatment effects, the optimum technical conditions were obtained. The sediments after treating were recyclable and the secondary pollutions can be avoided. Moreover, the results also show that, all indexes of the effluent after treating are lower than the First Grade Standard of Integrated Wastewater Discharge (GB 8978-1996). This novel method has advantages of short flow sheet, easy operation and low cost.

Certain types of rock phosphates of sedimentary origin are applied to acidic soils as fertilizer directly. Recent research in India showed that high grade rock phosphate in fine size when used as a mix with organic manure works as efficiently as di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) in alkaline soils. The rock phosphate from Jhamarkotra, India (sedimentary origin), Egypt (sedimentary origin) and South Africa (volcanic origin) showed good agronomic efficiency when used as Phosphate Rich Organic Manure (PROM). Further PROM shows equal residual effect. The results of efficiency of PROM made using two grades (+ 24% P2O5 and 34% P2O5) of rock phosphate mineral from Jordan show that low grade rock phosphate slimes are as effective as high grade phosphate concentrate when used in PROM. Also PROM is very effective in the saline soil of Eshidiya desert where DAP is not at all effective.

The ever increasing demand for energy and the progressive depletion of crude oil resources, have renewed interest in oil shale as an alternative fuel resource. Weathered oil shale samples were assembled from El-Nakheil phosphate mine in Quseir area, Eastern desert, Egypt. The oil shale samples were prepared and analyzed by XRD (X-ray diffraction), XRF (X-ray fluorescence spectrometry), and optical microscopic techniques. Rock-Eval pyrolysis and total organic carbon were used to study shale hydrocarbon potential. A leaching procedure using inorganic and organic acids was used to selectively dissolve the oil shale associated ash forming minerals. XRD results showed that calcite is the dominant carbonate mineral, whereas primary silicate minerals are quartz and montmorillonite. SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) observations indicated that the organic matter is dispersed throughout the rock matrix. The acid soluble fraction upon leaching was determined to be 37.59 and 42.74 wt% by using 5% HCl and 10% HCl, respectively. The TOC was increased from 20.78 to 29.88 and 34.09 wt% by using 5% HCl and 10% HCl, respectively. In the present work, the influence of coagulant, polymeric flocculant structure type and mode of addition on flocculation performance and dewatering behaviour of plant mineral waste tailings of diverse mineralogy (kaolin, quartz, goethite/hematite feldspar, gibbsite, rutile, and Illite) is investigated. High molecular weight, non-ionic polyacrylamide homopolymer and anionic (acrylate) and cationic (quaternary acrylate) copolymers were used in orthokinetic flocculation of colloidal-ly-stable, aqueous dispersion of negatively charged particles. It is demonstrated that, through prudent selection and mode of addition of polymer structure types, synergistic effect between certain cationic and anionic flocculants can be readily achieved, leading to significantly improved dewaterability of the heterogeneous mineral waste tailings.
