"The article presents the materials about the appropriateness of the use of rental indices to assess the effectiveness of the use of deposits of rare earth elements (REE). The authors suggest from the standpoint of rent payments to rate for the owner the possibility of using the anticipated rental income as the indicator for the analysis of preferences and economic significance of enrichment of extracted raw materials in the emerging field of rare earth metals (REE). Usually from ore mined at the fields, for flotation technology to produce concentrates with collective REE, then they are subjected to chemical-metallurgical processing of the received products are divided into pure oxides, chemical compounds or isolated from them pure metals and alloys. This commercial product is shipped to the buyer. REE were a non-renewable natural resources, so the calculations for determining differential and specific rent showed that during the development of the technologies of mineral processing of a specific field it is necessary to consider what the expected rental income depends on the magnitude of differential rent is related to the volume of production of REE for the whole planned period of exploitation of natural resources. This income is determined by the amount of stock field. For long-term exploitation of the deposit is observed in almost direct proportional dependence between the annual differential rent and the rental income. The decrease in rents in the long run is determined by the change in the composition of ores included in the extracted raw materials and the balance between light and heavy REE. The largest 70% reduction of the rent projected for ""cerium"" fields, while for ""yttrium"" these losses are considerably smaller. Tomtor, Chuktukon and Katuginskoye Russian deposits are characterized by a level of rent that is comparable to the mastered foreign sources of REE. Thus, the enrichment of minerals with REM in the domestic deposits is quite competitive at the world level. INTRODUCTION Deposits of rare earth metals (REE) are non-renewable resources that should be developed and used so that it would be possible to provide a reduction due to payment of appropriate resources for future generations. This compensation, due to the reduction of natural resources, can be carried out both in natural and in economic terms (1). When analyzing economic compensation options, particular attention should be paid to rental income in assessing the attractiveness of using different REE deposits. It is known that absolute and differential rents are summands when calculating the value of natural rents. The value of the absolute natural rent is proportional to the unit price of the product obtained from mineral raw materials and sold on the commodity market. Limitations, as well as the use in production processes and business, contribute to the gradual reduction of natural resources, which increases their consumer value and affects the price of commodity products from primary raw materials."

Fankou Lead-Zinc Mine produced pyrite concentrate (P.C.) from the zinc tailings by rougher and scavenger flotation before 2010, with the averaged S grade of 40.54% at recovery of 79.34% ( to the feed of S circuit). On the one hand, the economic value of P.C. increases with its purity, on the other hand, when the S grade of P.C. feed to sulfuric acid manufacturer is over 47%, the pyrite cinder can reach a high Fe grade of 62% which can be directly sold as iron concentrate. On this background, engineers in Fankou Mine set the P.C. with S grade of 47% as target. The direct way to reach that goal was to clean the rougher P.C.. Lots of cleaning flotation tests were conducted and the compromised strategy was to produce two ranks P.C. with the S grade of 47% and 38% at the recovery of 44.20% and 36.17%, respectively. The dual-product flowsheet was successfully industrialized in 2010. In order to further improve the quality of P.C., gravity separation was introduced into the flowsheet. The numerical simulation and separation tests were performed to evaluate the beneficiation and classification performance of hydrocyclone as it treated the rougher P.C.. It was shown that the underflow of hydrocyclone could addressed the S grade of 47%, and the finer size overflow could also be enriched to P.C. with S grade of 47% by flotation, due to the contained pyrite with well liberation. That is to say, with the ingenious addition of hydrocyclone to treat the rough P.C., single P.C. with S grade of 47% could be achieved. The new flotation-gravity separation flowsheet was commissioned to produce the high quality P.C. at the end of 2013. The averaged S grade is 47.20% at recovery of 82.26% in 2014. The two steps flowsheet improvement maximizes the enterprise benefits and leads to simple utilization of Fe in pyrite in downstream industry.

"Reducing the amount of zinc and iron in lead concentrate is one of the important aspects of processing in lead and zinc flotation plants which results in improvement of lead concentrate quality and prevents zinc loss. In mineral flotation industries, lignin sulfonates are known for their depressant properties for both non-metallic and sulfide minerals such as pyrite and pyrrhotite.This paper investigates the effect of lignin sulfonate on flotation of galena, sphalerite and pyrite in sulfidic lead and zinc bearing ores. Batch flotation tests were carried out on a high pre-activated zinc samples. The feed contains 0.9% lead, 2.3% zinc and 7.5% iron. The dosage of all reagents such as sodium cyanide, zinc sulfate, ethyl xanthate and methyl isobutyl carbinol (MIBC) were kept constant for lead flotation step except calcium lignin sulfonate (CLS) that was varied between 0 and 80 gr/ton.Results for lead rougher concentrate showed that the grade of lead increased by 2.7% while the recovery decreased around 4 % at the highest dosage of CLS. Furthermore, zinc recovery decreased by 6.3% with no significant change in grade. Iron recovery in lead rougher concentrate decreased by 2.3 % while the grade changed around 1%. In sphalerite flotation step, CLS dosage was changed in the range of 0 to 80 gr/ton while the dosage of other reagents such as copper sulfate, lime, amil xanthate and MIBC were kept constant. In this step, no decreasing in grade and recovery of zinc was observed, while iron recovery decreased. It was suggested that CLS has a depression effect on sphalerite in conjunction with other zinc depressants such as zinc sulfate and sodium cyanide. CLS was further used in plant with non-pre-activated zinc minerals. Similar trends were observed in plant.INTRODUCTIONlead-zinc sulfide minerals play an important role in the production of lead and zinc metals in the mineral processing industry (Luo, Feng et al. 2016). Due to complexity of the lead-zinc ores mineralogy, in some situations, their flotation properties vary significantly from one deposit to another one even in itself (Bulatovic 2007)."

"The thiosulfate leaching process developed by Barrick to treat sulfidic high preg-robbing gold ores uses calcium thiosulfate as the leaching reagent for ores pre-treated by pressure oxidation, resin for gold recovery with sulfite/trithionate elution and reverse osmosis as a means of reagent recovery. A large portion of the research that led to the development of the technology was based on previous studies completed by different groups over the years, mainly focused on the ammonium thiosulfate system. Operational limitations in the use of the ammonia-containing recycled water in the pressure oxidation circuit were some of the main drivers for the change from ammonium to calcium thiosulfate for the development of the industrial scale process. One of the main aspects for successful gold extraction and recovery in the thiosulfate system is the pseudo-equilibrium reactions that drive distribution of the different gold species (in solids, solution and on resin) in the system. Previous studies have been focused on the thiosulfate reactions and equilibrium constants for the oxysulfur ions (thiosulfate, trithionate, tetrathionate). However, the literature around the effects of the different metal-oxysulfur complexes (Cu and Hg complexes) that form when the ore is in contact with the leaching reagents, and the related effects on stability of the gold complex is limited. The main changes in the gold complex chemistry and stability in the calcium thiosulfate system as compared to the ammonium and sodium equivalents, as well as related effects on gold recoveries, were investigated in the presence of different types of double refractory ores. INTRODUCTION Barrick has developed a thiosulfate leaching process to treat double refractory gold ores, by combining the use of acidic and alkaline autoclave pre-treatment with thiosulfate resin-in-leach (RIL). The process currently in operation at the Goldstrike mine (the TCM process), uses calcium thiosulfate as the leaching reagent, resin for gold recovery with sulfite/trithionate elution and reverse osmosis as a mean of reagent recycle. The main feed to the process plant is highly preg-robbing sulfidic ore from Goldstrike’s open pit. Prior to feeding the pressure oxidation circuit, the ore is processed through the crushing and grinding circuits and treated in preparation for acid or alkaline autoclave processing (POX)."

"Heap leaching is well-established as a relatively low-cost and low-energy method of extracting metals from low grade ores. However, the design methodology, attention to the engineering details during heap construction and the long time scale in metal recovery makes the process susceptible to significant variation in the success of a heap leach operation. Often the laboratory predicted recovery rates are not achieved on site due to poor understanding of the complex physics of flow and coupled solid-liquid-thermal reactions within the multi-dimensional heterogeneous ore body. Given the large scale of commercial operations, small changes in metal recovery can substantially change the operating profitability. While there are a variety of approaches to heap leach modeling, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling coupled with leach kinetic models offers a methodology to describe and understand the complexities of heap leaching. The CFD model uses leach kinetics specific for the mineralogy of the ore, including gangue chemistry, and provides an energy balance to calculate and predict temperature. Coupled with the CFD model’s inherent capability for modeling complex fluid flow, the physics and the chemistry of the heap can be simulated. This provides a tool for engineering design, as well as forecasting heap production under different scenarios. The calibrated model is used to simulate a three-dimensional test heap under fluctuating meteorological data, such as precipitation events, periodic solution application, and notably temperature. These simulations provide support for a methodology to design and engineer heap leaching of low grade copper sulfide ore. INTRODUCTION Worldwide copper ore reserves are faced with decreasing head grades with copper sulfides, particularly chalcopyrite being the predominant mineralogy (Nesse, 2000). Heap leaching offers an economical way to recover copper from low grade ore. The ore is stacked and a leach solution is applied and allowed to trickle though the porous bed of ore to extract target metals. The heap can be built with run of mine material or crushed ore and is constructed in order to achieve percolation of the leach solution to all regions. Bartlett (1998) provides an authoritative overview of the solution mining process where the leach solution interacts with the solid, the lixiviant dissolves the target minerals from the solid into the solution, and the dissolved species are transported out of the heap for subsequent recovery. Petersen (2016) provides a recent review of heap leach technology and emerging and potential future applications, and Ghorbani et al. (2016) summarizes the current state and challenges of the technology. Early applications of heap leaching offered a low cost technique to achieve high recoveries from oxide ores, typically greater than 70% depending upon the kinetics of reaction. As world copper resources transition to mainly copper sulfide mineralogy, such as chalcopyrite based ores, achieving high recovery from these copper sulfide deposits is proving more difficult due to the complexity of the leach kinetics, which leads to low leaching efficiency."

This project was specifically aimed at using increased acceleration separation, as a method to optimize the recovery of gold in an ore body mainly consisting of hematite where the specific gravity of gold is much higher in comparison to the carrying material, making it possible to separate gold from other materials like silica, base metals and their oxides, usually associated with gravitation-gold-recovery-processes. The ore body investigated in this project originated from a gold reef containing a large portion of gold locked inside the gold pyrite complexes, which was mined and treated in a conventional way. After gold extraction, the material was pumped to a tailings dump and the gold extraction of this dump was investigated. In order to assemble a concentration plant setup, the head grade and size distribution of the dump and bulk sample were determined accurately. Chemical analysis and mineralogical examination were done on a representative sample of the bulk sample, to determine the chemical composition of the material. The results obtained thereof were evaluated and a pilot plant was configured. A bulk sample was processed in the pilot plant and the results were evaluated. The results at optimum acceleration forces applied, resulted in a recovery of 5% of the mass, with a gold concentrate of 90 g/t Au, which represented 58% recovery of the gold. The hematite with high specific gravity as main phase positively influenced the high acceleration separation process. It proved that if the specific gravity of particles in a suspension were increased, high acceleration separation could be applied effectively to separate much smaller particle sizes.

"The treatment of high-grade copper gold-bearing ores is practiced extensively. However, due to low concentration of copper the application of a separate process for copper recovery can make this process uneconomical. The copper, in particular: in oxide minerals, intensively bounds with cyanide during conventional cyanidation. In this case, cyanide is not able to react with precious metals and the consumption of cyanide increases. The resulting copper cyanide complexes have a negative effect on the recovery of gold. Due to decreasing of the process parameters, a repeated use of the recycled solutions can be hindered, especially in the case of heap leaching. The technology of copper removal from the process solutions with simultaneous regeneration of free cyanide from copper-cyanide complex and producing of a saleable high-grade copper concentrate was developed. An important feature of this technology is simplicity, the absence of complex or dangerous operations and the use of common reagents. The choice of equipment depends on the ore treatment option: heap or vat leaching. Also, simpler equipment schemes are available. The studies, tests and industrial practice show that if the concentration of copper can be decreased down to the first numbers of mg per ppm or lower, it is reasonable to maintain the process copper grade in the recycled solutions at 30-50 mg/L. In this case, recycling of cyanide-bearing solutions is unlimited. The regeneration of free cyanide from that of bound with copper and other cyanide complexes is 95-98%. The grade of copper in the concentrate is 55-60%. This technology is an economically competitive option, in particular: with the account of the sales of copper concentrate. The removal of copper has a positive effect on gold recovery, especially during heap leaching. In addition to, this offers significant benefits in reduced costs."

India is endowed with a reasonably large reserve of chrome ore, amounting to about 100 million tons in different grades and is one of the leading producers of ore/concentrate along with South Africa, Kazakhstan and others. Chromite production in India has registered a 10 times increase during the last 30 years. Till late 1940s, the practice was to mine the high-grade ore for making ferrochrome and charge chrome and export the same leaving the low and medium grade ores stacked around the mine as waste material. This practice was continued for quite some time till the increase in world wide de-mand of chromite initiated an increase in production of chromite ore in India and the aspects of ?economy of operation? and ?conservation of mineral? dawned on the producers and associated authorities. Recovery of chrome values from low and medium grade ore was initiated to produce high-grade saleable concentrate. Suitable legislation was made by Government of India to induce and provide incentives to the operators to do so. First large scale chromite beneficiation plant in India was commissioned about three decades back at Byrapore in the Southern state of Karnataka. The ore, rather simple in nature and relatively free from clay, was obtained from underground. The processing consequently was simple washing and wet tabling. Further more, some test work, on the samples from eastern coast particularly from Orissa, was carried out at an internationally reputed laboratory by a large private operator and the plant was set up. This consisted of a combination of crushing-grinding-de-sliming-classification followed by concentration in multi stage spiral concentrators and shaking table. The plant was commissioned and operated successfully. Soon a state owned company followed suit on the basis of test work carried out in a well equipped Indian laboratory. The plant worked satisfactorily after some initial teething trouble and the company plans to double the existing plant capacity by installing balancing facilities. This development prompted a number of operators, including industry leaders to join the fray and the chrome ore processing industry flourished in India. More and more operators are now in the process of adding capacities to their existing plants. This paper attempts to chart the evolution of chrome ore beneficiation industry in India through a case study with reference to an existing plant. The process technology adopted and modified to suit the altered requirements as well as the future trends are outlined.

"Raw materials are among the main building blocks of a growing economy. Without raw materials, no matter whether it is primary or secondary, production is not possible. Products with high added value require special materials. Recently, worldwide production of some important raw materials mainly comes from a handful of countries, for example: China (Rare Earths Elements (REE)), Russia, South Africa (Platinum Group Elements (PGE)), Democratic Republic of Congo (Cobalt), etc. In the EU as well as in Hungary, the importance of the so called 14 critical raw materials has been recognized. Within the frame of the TÁMOP-4.2.2.A-11/1/KONV-2012-0005 - CriticEL project, the Institute of Raw Materials Preparation and Environmental Processing in cooperation with the Institute of Mineralogy and Geology of the University of Miskolc are working on the exploration of the primary and secondary sources and developing innovative preparation technologies of critical raw materials in Hungary. The research work showed in this article, focused on the recovery of critical materials from LCD TVs and monitors. There are high deviations in different literatures regarding to concentrations of critical elements in displays (e.g.: indium), probably because of the differences in production year, producers and recovery technologies. During the research - described in this study - a well specified sample of quite large amount of displays had been used. The exact place and shape of the ITO (indium-tin oxide) layer were determined by SEM analysis. The applied preparation technology was developed based on the results of our investigations and by technologies found in the literature. The developed process accomplishes two main parts: the mechanical preparation (mainly the liberation of different display layers, removal of liquid crystal) and the acidic dissolution of indium."

It is difficult to analyse the economics without an integrated view of mine transactions, stockpile inventories, process flows and assays. The lack of integration of mining and metallurgical information with sufficient detail to analyse and act is a problem. However, to take action requires real time information from manufacturing assets, corrected for gross errors from trucks, shovels, conveyors, faulty sensors, bad instrument calibration. Validation methods use process models to identify inconsistent information in the case of corrupt actionable information. This paper presents new strategies that transform the data into business information for continuous improvement and optimization. This technical presentation will review recent implementations enabling large metallurgical complexes to improve their data quality for overall production and energy management. A competence center emerges as an enabler for implementing operational intelligence. The evolution of Web services to troubleshoot plant information and to collaborate at the enterprise level is presented.

Drilling and Blasting are two important unit operations in the production cycle of a mine and a strong link exists between these two and other unit operations/subsystems like loading, transportation, and crushing. Under the present concept of ? Mine to Mill?, it is important to optimize the drilling and blasting operations by applying scientific approach to drilling and blasting using sophisticated instruments and new technologies, which depends heavily on Information technology (IT) to meet this imperative. Development of innovative models and software has lead to blast optimization process. Till date, the blast results are evaluated in terms of available empirical approaches like powder factor, which are too simple to exclude some key parameters or lack in providing reliability because of non-availability of user friendly IT enabled techniques. Although with the help of developed approaches, formulation of user-friendly software to assist the site engineers in effective post blast assessment has started but there is a dearth of holistic approach to design an optimum blast considering the techno-economic feasibility of the subsystems and the geo-mining conditions to achieve blast optimization. The science of IT enablement in drilling and blasting is capable to build innovative models for achieving blast performances which will be doped with productivity, economy and safety with due regard to environment. The present paper discusses the use of existing IT enablement in various mines of India citing the Indian scenario and the future requirements for achieving the techno-economics in overall mining operations.

Due to not to being our own sources, some energy sources such as oil and natural gas which are used frequently, are not reliable energy sources for our country. Coal is an important energy source that Turkey also has a certain reserve as many countries have. To be able to use for many years the reserves of this source that comes from fossils, there is a great need to make more investigation and development activities on it. On behalf of using more productively the current sources, briquetting facility is represented that commenced production in The Aegean Lignite Establishment in 2005 which is in Manisa, Soma. This facility is a part of General Directorate of Turkish Coal. This facility is run by Soma Coal Establishment that works in return for royalty in a licensed field that belongs to TKI. As the demand of market for 0.5 mm dust coal diminishes, we had to accumulate and stock unmerchantable dust coal. Besides, we have intermixed 0.5- 1 mm powder coal and 0.1 ? 0.5 mm fine powder coal obtained as a result of washing in coal washer with thermic coal with low price as we could not find a client in the market. In this study, the production stages of briquette coal with high quality produced as a result of pressing by mixing 0.5- 1 mm powder coal and 0.1 ? 0.5 mm fine powder coal with molasse and lime, quality control, and data?s obtained about calories and solidity of products were presented. By briquetting of 0.5- 1 mm powder coal and 0.1 ? 0.5 mm fine powder coal washed in coal washer, it became possible to sell these coals on a high unit price and by providing the demand of coal of the market, we contributed to productivity of our firm. Copper recovery via Solvent Extraction (SX) process is a well-known technique, which is practiced commercially for approximately 40 years. The main advantages of the SX process are: an absence of using high temperatures (not more than 50oC), complete recycling of barren solutions, very high selectivity at removal and purification of metals, metal conversion to a form, suitable for easy subsequent recovery. Despite the wide acceptance of Solvent Extraction, it does have some shortcomings, namely SX employs large quantities of volatile organic substances. This leads to huge plant ?footprint? of SX circuits. The SX is very sensitive to low temperatures and quantity of total suspended solids in feed solutions and this causes bad phase disengagement times and therefore poor process performance. And most important ? low grade solutions (with copper concentrations below 1 gram per litre) are very unattractive for treatment via Solvent Extraction process, because capital costs for SX plants are not a direct function of copper tenor in the feed. The combined process with Ion Exchange (IX) and Solvent Extraction ? further called IX/SX by IONTECH Engineering was developed. This combination eliminates SX negative characteristics shown above. The key findings of the IX/SX process are; (1) recovery of copper from pregnant leach solutions with metal concentrations, varying on a broad range; (2) can be operate effectively with very low-graded copper pregnant leach solutions; (3) the construction of large ponds for pre-filtration of the pregnant leach solutions is not necessary; (4) working with turbid solutions and solutions containing large quantities of suspended solids; (5) winter operation without troubles; (6) strongly reduces organic losses; (7) technological approach lead to plant sizes reducing. This paper reviews the main stages of the combined IX/SX process, the applications for metal recovery and introduces projects where the process is applied. Key findings of the process are also presented. A comprehensive technical comparison between processes has been carried out. This paper also evaluates the advantages of using combined IX/SX technology as a purification and separation step in copper production process, with the aim of further increasing the overall copper recovery and to ensure that a suitable copper concentration in the advanced electrolyte is achieved. The implementation of a Ion Exchange (IX) process in the classic Solvent Extraction-Electrowinning process(SX/EW) is found to be beneficial for processing of pregnant leach solutions both from spent and new copper heaps and dumps, acid mine drainage and other industrial streams without any preconditioning as well as in terms of achieving improved recoveries and copper cathode quality.

Currently, the interest to conditioning of cyanide-bearing recycled solutions with high-grade of base metals, in particular, copper has significantly grown. This can be explained by two major factors. Firstly, there are strict regulations on cyanides amount in tails and higher cost of detoxification processes. This problem can be easily solved during the ore treatment using the conditioning of solutions and water recycling. Secondly, the presence of other metals minerals which react with cyanide during gold leaching resulting in high cyanide consumption. The presence of copper is a major problem. Many copper minerals react with cyanide with the formation of cyanide complexes-Cu(CN)2-, Cu(CN)32- and Cu(CN)43-. One mole of copper consumes 2-4 moles of free cyanide. Availability of cyanide-soluble copper minerals has deleterious effect on gold leaching (gold recovery, cyanide consumption, tails detoxification, efficiency of gold elution and electrowinning). The precipitation of copper from the solutions improves gold recovery by CIL. The removal and recycling of cyanide allowed the reduction of cyanide addition to the process. The recycling of spent cyanide-bearing solutions based on the removal of copper and the return of cyanide bound in complex compounds for leaching process is an optimal way of solving the problem of gold-bearing copper ores treatment. By using the technology, an adverse impact onto gold recovery process is eliminated and at the same time reducing the cyanide consumption. Today, processes and methods of high-grade copper leaching solutions conditioning before and after gold recovery have been developed, which combine two ways of copper recovery: as a saleable product and cyanide to recover gold and reduce total operating costs. They are Cutech, MNR, SART, Cyanomet, AuGment, Vitrokele, Hannah and Cyanisorb. At the same time, these technologies have not been studied enough and described in literature. Data on parameters and operating conditions as well as introduction is not available. The conditioning technology of recycled solutions developed by IRGIREDMET JSC allows copper to be recovered as high quality concentrate and at the same time free cyanide regeneration in the recycled solution which is amenable to gold leaching. This technology was commercialized at a mine in Kazakhstan in 2008. The removal and recycling of cyanide does not require additional cyanide and is cost-effective. More cost-efficiency is achievable through selling copper concentrates, closed water cycle without the detoxification of effluents and enhanced gold recovery by CIL and cathode quality.

In this study, approximately 3 tons of coal sample taken from thickener entrance was prepared by mineral processing techniques and cleaned by gravity methods. The samples were classified to 5 size fractions by wet screening. The size fractions of +1mm and -1 +0.500 mm were chosen for direct consumption or cleaning by spirals. The studies by Multi Gravity Separator (MGS) were carried out with the -0.500 +0.280 mm and -0.280 +0.020 mm size fractions where the -0.020 mm fraction does not used in the experiments. The clean coal fractions of +1 mm and -1 +0.500 mm obtained by classification were subjected to lower calorific value (LCV), ash and total sulphur analyses. The results were 4168-4946 kcal/kg (on dry basis), 31.01-38.54 % ash and 4-4.27 % total sulphur content respectively. The results of the clean coal concentrated by MGS experiments in -0.500 +0.280 mm fraction was found 5918 kcal/kg LCV, 19.82 % ash content and 80.47 % combustible recovery. The results for the -0.280 +0.020mm fraction were 6004 kcal/kg LCV, 19.19 % ash content, 80.47 % combustible recovery respectively. With reference to the above experimental results, pre-economic evaluation studies were completed and decided to construct an additional unit to the plant. Capacity of the constructed unit is 75.000 t/y which corresponds $ 2.600.000 income in a year. General Directorate of Turkish Coal Enterprises concluded to apply this project to the other coal washing plants in the country due to the successful results of this study and laboratory studies has been going on by MTA currently. The basic objectives of current EU waste policy are to prevent waste and promote re-use, recycling and recovery to reduce negative environmental impact (2008/98/EC). In this paper, we focus on drivers and barriers for sustainable development by decreasing amount of waste and increasing material efficiency. Main target is to understand what are the most efficient drivers for environmental friendly decision making for reasonable consumption and use of raw materials. Environmental control instruments usually mean those actions the regulatory authority uses to control and limit environmentally harmful behavior of companies. A major change in the environmental control system took place in the 1980s with the focus moving from specific environmental issues to the environment as a whole. The environmental control system i.e. the legal (administrative), economic and informative instruments focuses on prevention. Before and still, the legislation is one of the main drivers in improving material efficiency. In this paper, we focus on drivers and barriers for effective industrial material use, and mainly on drivers. The objective of this study is to analyze how the drivers are working and are there any possibilities to influence on those. Our aim is also to introduce few examples of the existing supply chains and the drivers for better environmental performance and material efficiency. These examples are also compared with ideal reference scenarios. Our main research question in this article is: ?Are the financial issues the most important driver for environmental friendly strategic decisions?? In addition, retell the story from another perspective: ?The most important barrier for environmental friendly innovations seem to be the investment cost, the high risk involved in committing capital to unproven technology.? Other drivers, like the corporate social responsibility, stakeholder pressure, and general public pressure, will also affect the final decision. The continent has large, and relatively unexplored mineral deposits, and recent high economic growth rates have meaningfully improved the political, economic, and infrastructural environments. However, these opportunities are accompanied by significant risks, including resource nationalism, uncertain regulation, corruption, and continuing political instability (up to and including war). Forward-looking companies actively manage these risks by creating a sense of shared purpose with the countries and communities that own the resources, using tools such as stakeholder analysis, local narratives, scenario planning, and constituency engagement. They also measure socio-economic impact to insure the creation and demonstration of shared value.

The treatment of placer gold with fine gold, associated with gold-bearing sulfide minerals, heavy minerals and oxidized minerals such as manganowolframite (gubnerite) is not an easy task. In this case, this complex material cannot be treated using physical separation methods such as deep concentration and finishing, magnetic separation and solvent extraction. This technology is usually employed in gold washings finishing plant. The easiest way to recover precious metals in the form of an easy-to-sample saleable product is metallurgical treatment. This paper describes the application of pyrometallurgical processes with oxidative roasting, re-cleaning of cinders (if required) and ore-thermal smelting for producing gold bullion. Hydrometallurgical treatment of slags as an additional operation is recommended in order to maximize recovery of valuable metals. After this treatment, a barren leaching cake rich in PGM can be sold in the market. PGM can be collected as gold-silver alloy during smelting which allows the phase formation of polymetallic matte due to specific composition of fluxes. The PGM are then in the form of saleable gold bullions in the refinery.
