"The size, morphology, surface texture, per cent mineral inclusions, and bulk chemistry (Ag and trace elements) of placer gold particles vary systematically according to transport distance from source rocks, as indicated by a case study from the Pioneer district in Montana, and data from the literature.Placer gold samples show a rapid decrease in mean and maximum particle length, and a gradual increase in flatness index (F.I. = length + breadth/2 x thickness) from about F.I. = 2 in bedrock deposits, to as much as F.I. = 45 over transport distances of several tens of kilometers. Primary mineral inclusions (mainly quartz, sulfide minerals, and iron oxides) are mostly lost within 10 km to 20 km of fluvial transport; this loss of quartz and trace metals causes a major change in bulk chemistry of placer gold samples. Following the loss of inclusions and the development of flakes, edges of flakes are folded and the mean number of folded edges in a sample increases with distance. When viewed under the electron microscope, surface textures of placer gold particles also become progressively more pitted with distance.Analysis of placer gold particles can be used to help evaluate placer source-area problems (placers with no known hard-rock gold deposits). For example, coarse placer gold containing abundant inclusions indicates a proximal source. On the other hand, an abundance of thin flakes is evidence of a long transport distance and possible reworking from older gravels. Placer gold characteristics can therefore provide information on distance to mineralized source rocks."

"With columns being installed in rougher section at Miduk Copper Complex, the rougher feed mainly reports to rougher-scavenger cells. To evaluate the efficiency of regrinding circuit, we conducted flotation experiments on samples of the feed and the products of the regrinding circuit. The grade difference of these products at 85% recovery was considered as the efficiency index. Results show that, with weight recovery of the rougher-scavengers the efficiency of the circuit increases. Exclusion of the rougher-scavenger concentrate from the feed to the regrinding circuit, resulted in an increase in the efficiency index from 10.12 to 17.6%.INTRODUCTIONThe flotation circuit at Miduk Copper Complex consists of five flotation columns as roughers and ten mechanical cells as rougher-scavengers. According to design criteria, 75% of the final product was expected to be produced by the rougher columns, while most of the feed consisting of liberated valuable particles is introduced into rougher-scavengers. To liberate locked particles, the rougher-scavengers concentrate is introduced into the regrinding circuit (see Figure 1 below). The regrind mill is in reversed closed circuit with a secondary hydrocyclones cluster, and the cyclone overflow is introduced into three parallel cleaner columns. Cleaners concentrate reports to concentrate thickener and the column tailings is introduced into six mechanical cleaner-scavenger cells. The cleaner-scavengers concentrate reports to the regrind circuit(Figure 1)."

Due to economic factors, many aircraft in service today have been operating for more than 30 years even though they were initially designed with a service life of 20 years. Improved damage management models are therefore needed for use in life prediction and management of the aging fleets of aircraft. Currently, the generally accepted procedure in fatigue life prediction methodologies is to back calculate the equivalent initial flaw size (EIFS) using established long crack growth data. However, it was observed from studies carried out at the National Research Council Canada that nucleation and short crack growth constitute up to -95% of the fatigue life. As a result, it seems that the significance of the short crack regime has been underestimated and must be further investigated and fully understood before an accurate holistic life prediction methodology can be realized. Unlike long cracks, local microstructural features such as grain boundary, grain size, inter-particle spacing, and texture play dominant roles in the behavior of short cracks. An extensive study has been carried out to evaluate different crack detection and monitoring techniques in the short crack regime for AA2024-T3. The results will be presented in detail.

The Boliden AITIK copper mine is located 100 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle in northern Sweden. A pre-feasibility study was conducted in 2005 with the aim of increasing the capacity of the existing processing plant. After analysis, options to upgrade the existing plant were abandoned in favour of building a new processing plant, with higher capacity and therefore greater profitability. A new plant could be designed with greater flexibility to make potential future expansions easier. A feasibility study for a new 36 Mt/y processing plant including fully AG grinding circuits and flotation was completed in 2006. The project was approved by the Boliden board shortly thereafter. Construction started in the beginning of 2007 and was completed during 2009. Commissioning of the new plant was undertaken in the first half of 2010. The grinding circuit consists of two lines with each line consisting of a 22.5 MW AG mill and a 10 MW Pebble mill in closed circuit with a spiral classifier. The nominal production level is 2 200 t/h for each grinding line. This paper presents the start-up and operation of the grinding circuit.

Potentiostatic electrodeposition behavior of dendritic copper from acidic copper(I) chloride (cuprous chloride) baths containing sodium chloride and sodium bromide was investigated. The morphology, or appearance, of copper dendrite and the sodium content in the dendrite as an impurity were both influenced by deposition potential (0 to ?150 mV vs. SHE) and bath temperature (R.T. to 60 C), while the current efficiency for the deposition was 99% or more irrespective of the deposition conditions examined. The bath pH did not affect the deposition behavior in the pH range of 0 to 2. Bath temperature was found to be the most important factor influencing the deposition current. The current density of the dendrite deposition on a titanium cathode was lower than that onto a copper cathode with the same substrate surface area. The reproducibility of the current for the dendrite deposition was poorer when an as-polished titanium cathode was used, although it was improved by surface treatment of the cathode with an HF-HNO3-H3PO4 solution before electrodeposition. The deposition behaviors were discussed with the potential-pH diagram of the Cu-Cl-H2O system.

At True Hill in southwestern New Brunswick, low-grade porphyry-style Bi-8n-Mo greisen mineralization is associated with the cupola of an epizonal granite porphyry (granite) that also exhibits three episodes of brecciation. The first episode of brecciation is an in situ, 8 m to 10 m wide transitional zone of net-veined to coarse-grained "blocky" endogranitic mesobreccia that is chloritized and greisenized and hosts weak disseminated minerali.zation. In a zone closer to the host rockgranite contact, angular fine- to coarse-grained endogranitic mesobreccia with greisenized matrix is superimposed on the earlier transitional breccia. The latest episode is fault-controlled and consists of quartz- and chalcedony-hosted sub-angular to rounded fine-grained "pebble" mesobreccias that crosscut and brecciate the other breccia types, as well as the adjacent altered metasedimentary country rocks. The first two episodes of brecciation are magmatic-hydrothermal in origin related to hydrofracturing of the granite carapace and are accompanied by greisenization and mineralization, whereas the post-mineralization, silica-hosted, "pebble" mesobreccias related to hydromagmatic, low-temperature fluid circulation and/or boiling along faults near the contact. These magrnatichydrothermal and hydromagrnatic mesobreccias are similar to those associated with W-Mo-Bi porphyry-greisen mineralization at the Mount Pleasant deposit.

"There is a world-wide trend toward underground bulk mining methods employing hydraulically placed backfill. This trend is recent and therefore there is little in the literature to assist an operator in the design of backfill properties, the design of drainage facilities, the calculation of the operating forces on a bulkhead, and the control procedures considered necessary before, during and after pouring. This paper presents recommended procedures that are based on over to years of experience in the various aspects of backfilling large openings. Free-draining timber or concrete block bulkheads are shown to be a viable alternative to massive reinforced concrete bulkheads for the containment of backfill pours. Hydrostatic pressures cannot develop in backfills provided adquate drainage facilities are installed.IntroductionThe increasingly adverse relationship between mining costs and mineral values has led mining companies to develop more productive, lower-cost, bulk mining methods. This has led to the increasing use of large, more or less continuous, hydraulically placed backfill pours to enable the recovery of a higher proportion of pillar ore. The success of any bulk mining method depends on the degree of stability maintained during the stoping operations with reference to the mining rate, the performance of the backfill with respect to the per cent extraction of pillar ore, and the control of the mine structure with respect to safety and productivity. One such method has been previously described(I) where a steeply dipping orebody is being mined with a sub-level method that employs large, hydraulically placed tailings pours for delayed pillar recovery. The paper describes the rock mechanics analysis undertaken to establish the stope and pillar geometry and the approach taken to establish backfill strength requirements to prevent dilution during pillar recovery. Production with this method started in 1970 and because few, if any, large bulk pours had previously been used in- this way (judging by the lack of information in the literature), design data and criteria were needed for several aspects of the work. Methods to establish backfill quantities and pertinent ""in-place"" fill properties are described in 2, 3 and 4 in the list of references. Results of field measurements taken to establish fill pressures for bulkhead design purposes are described in 5 and 6. Laboratory large-scale model tests undertaken to confirm a fill strength design equation, which takes into account fill arching, have recently been completed. A paper describing these tests and the results will be forthcoming in the near future."

"Rocks of the Whitewater Group (Aphebian age) oc ithin the Sudbury Basin and consist of three formations rre, from oldest to youngest: Onaping, heterolithic breccias lus an igneous-textured component; Onwatin, argillite and siltstone; and Chelmsford, greywacke with minor argillite with siltstone. Mineralization in these rocks is as follows:1) Sulphides are disseminated throughout the Onaping Formation. Pyrrhotite, the major sulphide mineral, occurs mainly as fragments; other sulphides are chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena, pyrite and marcasite.2) Zn, Pb, Cu, Ag and A u mineralization in the Vermilion member, a carbonate-chert unit near the base of the Onwatin Formation (Vermilion and Errington mines).3) Pyrite and minor base metals in the Onwatin Formation .4) Mineralized quartz veins, located at or near the base of the Onaping Formation, include such deposits as Moore Lake (Pb, Zn and Ag), Foisey (Zn, Pb), Papineau (Cu, Au and Co) and Proulx (Pb, Zn, and Cu). Quartz-carbonate veins in a meta-gabbro sill contain Cu, Zn, As and Au. Material from quartz veins from two former ""gold mines"" (Gordon Lake and Creighton) yielded no Au values.5) Anthraxolite veins in the Onwatin Formation .The mineral occurrences can be explained in term of either the volcanic theory or meteorite-impact theory of basin formation. According to the latter theory, the sulphide fragments in the Onaping Formation may have been formed by the brecciation of sulphide-rich pods located in the upper mantle and at the base of the transient crater; some of the sulphides may have been derived from target rocks of the Huronian Supergroup. The Vermillion-Errington deposits may represent sedimentary exhalative deposits of the Remac type; mineral-rich brines, trapped at the base of the transient crater, rose upward and precipitated the mineralized carbonate-chert under reducing conditions. These conditions continued throughout the deposition of the upper Onwatin Formation but pyrite was the only sulphide that formed.The quartz veins were emplaced during the time of basin deformation. Metamorphism remobilized and concentrated carbonaceous material in the Onwatin Formation 10 form the anthraxolite veins."

Gold mill effluents contain toxic pollutants such as cyanide (CN), thiocyanate (CNS), ammonia (NH4-N), and a variety of toxic metals. Various practical and economical technologies are in use for the removal of CN and toxic metals from gold mill effluents, however, the removal of CNS and NH4-N is challenging. The presence of CNS and NH4-N may make effluents toxic to aquatic life. The new Canadian Metal Mining Effluent Regulations will require mine effluents to be nontoxic. As a result, there is a need to develop practical and economical technology for CNS and NH4-N removal. The Mine Effluents Program in the Environment Group is presently evaluating biotechnology processes for the removal of CNS and NH4-N from gold mill effluents. The processes being evaluated are attached growth systems such as a Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) and completely mixed suspended growth systems such as a Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) operating in a batch mode. The research to date at MMSL has shown that the RBC is very effective in removing CNS and NH4-N from simulated effluents. The NH4-N removal project showed that the RBC is capable of removing 0.8 g NH4-N/m2 of RBC disk area per day at an average temperature of 4.5 oC and hydraulic loading rate of 0.02 m3/m2/d. The RBC was also found to be very effective in removing CNS (feed = 200 mg/L and effluent < 1 mg/L) at 8 oC and a hydraulic loading rate of 0.02 m3/m2/d. The SBR was effective in removing CNS and NH4-N (generated from CNS degradation) at SBR operating conditions of two-12 h treatment cycles and a temperature of 12 oC. The end product of CNS and NH4-N oxidation was NO3-N, which is relatively non-toxic.

"A set of experimental batch leaching tests studied the effect of pH, time, temperature, and stirring speed on the relative Cu, Co, Ni, and Fe leaching yields of an oxidized copper-cobalt ore sample in an aqueous hydrochloric acid solution. The results were statistically analyzed and modelled using the structural equation modelling method. Models showed that Cu, Co, and Ni leaching yields were strong functions of the leaching time and leaching temperature, whereas the Fe leaching yield depended on the leaching temperature, stirring speed, and pH. Under optimum leaching conditions yields were 99.8% Cu, 82.4% Co, 91.3% Ni, and 30.6% Fe.RÉSUMÉ Une série d’essais expérimentaux de lixiviation en bâchée ont été menés pour étudier l’effet du pH, de la durée d’attaque, de la température et de la vitesse de brassage sur les rendements relatifs de lixiviation du cuivre (Cu), du cobalt (Co), du nickel (Ni) et du fer (Fe) d’un échantillon de minerai de cuivre-cobalt oxydé dans une solution aqueuse d’acide chlorhydrique. Les résultats ont été analysés et modélisés statistiquement à l’aide de la méthode de modélisation par équation structurelle (SEM, de l’anglais structural equation modelling). Les modèles ont montré que les rendements de lixiviation du Cu, du Co et du Ni dépendaient énormément de la durée d’attaque et de la température de la lixiviation ; le rendement de lixiviation du Fe, quant à lui, dépendait de la température de la lixiviation, de la vitesse de brassage et du pH. The stability design of cemented backfills is normally conducted using conventional approaches. Analytical or numerical models, backed by trial-and-error methods, are the primary means used to describe or predict the support performance of backfills during mining. The stability of paste backfill free-standing faces is a major concern due to potential consequences to production, ore dilution and safety. Available analytical or mathematical models are developed based on assumptions of the failure modes that may occur when vertical fill faces are exposed during adjacent mining. Numerical modeling serves to provide an understanding of backfill strength and deformation behaviour. Such approaches offer inherent limitations and generally result in conservative designs. In this paper, centrifuge physical modeling was conducted not only for performance evaluation studies, including stability analysis, but to develop an understanding of the strength and deformation behaviour of paste backfill exposed faces when the adjacent ore zone is removed. The failure mode and mechanics of failure observed in the centrifuge model of a given prototype situation are discussed in detail. Centrifuge model results were compared to numerical modeling and it was concluded that a sliding block failure mechanism that resembles a circular slip appears to be the predominant failure mode.

Replacing diesel power in underground metal mining vehicles with available clean energy (e.g. hydrogen, lithium-ion batteries) is now a priority due to worker health issues, the increasing price of diesel, ventilation costs and air quality. Hydrogen fuel cells are a known and broadly applied power technology. They have been the focus of a dedicated research program to carry our proof of concept projects as well as regulatory developments for mining application. However, hydrogen remains a demanding energy vector to use in confined, underground applications. Standardization and safety considerations are being addressed in the industrial consortium Hydrogen Mine Introduction Initiative (HMII). Research projects are being carried out to resolve the gaps for regulated use. This article focuses on HMII objectives and Project results. The first has reviewed the relevant codes and standards and mine regulations, indicating that hydrogen and fuel cells could be allowed underground and that current codes, especially the Canadian Hydrogen Installation Code would be sufficient for hydrogen use. The second project established the standard hydrogen storage and distribution architecture along with related risks and safety requirements for its use in the third project, using an underground test chamber to delineate the behaviour of hydrogen leaks in confined conditions with various ventilation regimes and ignition studies. This project will end in 2013. It will be followed by the last project, which will establish best practices in support of regulations development, and develop the ISO standard for mine hydrogen infrastructure and underground application.

During bioleaching processes of sulfide minerals, the sulfide minerals act as the natural habitats for acidophiles, of which, most are autotrophic iron and sulfur oxidizing microbes. These microbes acquire energy by oxidation of sulfide minerals, and play crucial role in bioleaching processes. In the industrial bioleaching heaps, microbial community and their activity are highly related to engineering configurations, while the optimized industrial operation can help to fast dissolution of aim minerals and acid/iron balance under optimized microbial condition. Microbial community succession and activity formation, the function of microbes to mineral dissolution, the mechanisms to promotion and inhibition of sulfide minerals oxidation, and the industrial instances for microbial community regulation were reviewed. For these instances, promoted microbial activity helped to fast pyrite oxidation for sulfuric acid generation, which realized zero sulfur acid addition to the irrigation solution in the initiation of a bioleaching heaps. High microbial activity by optimized operation parameters improved Cu leaching efficiency during the heap bioleaching process. And also by inhibition of microbial activity, especially the iron oxidizing microbes, the excessive pyrite oxidation can be inhibited, which helped to the acid/iron balance during heap bioleaching. INTRODUCTION Around the world, high grade copper ore are exploited, while barely new high-grade deposits are succeeded, the copper grade of ore deposit is constantly decreasing. The increasing copper demands worldwide requests to process these low-grade ore deposits. Processing of low-grade ores are not economical by usual extraction processes. Heap leaching is a cheaper process for recovery of low-grade ores, and has been applied to extract valuable metals from sulfide minerals worldwide, such as copper, gold, uranium and nickel (Gericke et al., 2009). Heap leaching process has greatly decreased the economic grade and expanded the recoverable ore reserve worldwide (Brierley, 2008). It is usually carried out in the open environments, and could process huge amount of ore (usually in millions of tonnes in one reactor) in the heap reactor (Gericke et al., 2009). For copper sulfide, especially the secondary copper sulfides, heap (dump) bioleaching is successfully applied. Heap bioleaching process is cost saving, and sometimes can be achieved without adding chemical into heaps, by microbial fixing of the atmospheric N2 and CO2, and generating oxidant Fe3+ and sulfuric acid in heaps from oxidation of sulfide minerals. Also heap bioleaching is environment friendly by cycling use of the leaching solution, and without exhaust emission.

A study was undertaken to determine whether interrelations between mineral grains affect ore breakage during grinding, and to establish a correlation between ore breakage and mineral liberation. A base metal ore from the Brunswick No. 12 deposit in New Brunswick was ground for different periods of time in a laboratory ball mill, and both the unbroken ore and the ground products were analysed by image analysis. The results show that the mode of breakage is strongly influenced by the behaviour of pyrite. Similar size distributions were obtained for material from the 15 minute grind in a laboratory ball mill, for the grinding circuit discharge from a commercial mill, and for pyrite grains in the unbroken ore. This similarity indicates that a 15 minute grind breaks poorly bonded pyrite grains along grain boundaries, and represents the limit of easy breakage for the ore. Such a grind liberates both large separate grains of ore minerals and poorly bonded mineral grains that occur in interstices among pyrite. On the other hand the 15 minute grind does not separate moderately bonded mineral grains nor release moderately bonded interstitial minerals from pyrite; a 45 minute grind in a laboratory ball mill is required. It is assumed that, for Brunswick No. 12 ore, a 45 minute grind in a laboratory ball mill is equivalent to regrinding in a commercial mill. Grinding beyond 45 minutes in a laboratory ball mill breaks the ore by fracturing pyrite across grain boundaries and by chipping grain edges. Such intense grinding does not markedly increase sphalerite liberation from Brunswick No. 12 ore, because most of the sphalerite that can be released was liberated at the 45 minute grind. In contrast the intense grinding increases galena liberation because a significant proportion of the galena occurs as minute inclusions in pyrite. These findings show that ore breakage and coincident liberation depend upon size distributions, intergrowths, and mode of occurrence of the minerals in an ore.

"The first record of a kimberlite found in Canada (1946) was the identification of thin dykes intersected while drilling for gold in Michaud Township, Ontario.Sampling of the Munro Esker (1964) in the Kirkland Lake area, Ontario, by the Geological Survey of Canada identified the occurrence of detrital grains of pyrope garnets along a length of 35 km of the 113 km tested. A search for the source of the garnets resulted in the identification (1968) of a narrow subsurface kimberlite dyke in the Upper Canada Mine. This discovery resulted in a staking rush. Unfortunately, subsequent work did not identify the source of the kimberlite indicator minerals.During 1978 the Ontario Geological Survey started a multi-discipline study of 29 townships (2560 krn2) in the Kirkland Lake area, to encourage exploration for gold, base metals, and kimberlites. Back-hoe sampling (1979 to 1982), where the overburden was thin, and reverse circulation drilling, in areas of thicker drift, yielded samples of the till. These were analyzed for several elements and a mineralogical identification of the heavy minerals was completed. Pyrope and chrome diopside grains were identified.Studies of the Pleistocene geology indicated only the most recent direction (167 degrees) of ice advance (Matheson) and the associated deposits, out of a possible three advances known to occur in the general region straddling the Ontario-Quebec boundary, is present in the immediate area of Kirkland Lake. Contouring the distribution of pyrope grains (1990) showed a concentration centered over an area of 616 km2 extending down-ice from Gauthier Township. This included a smaller area containing chrome diopside grains. Kimberlite boulders were identified (1981) in gravel pits on the Munro and Misema River Eskers located within this anomalous area. The next step would be to use the airborne geophysical data to locate the kimberlite pipes which yielded the indicator minerals and boulders. The source area is likely to be in the northern half of the Ontario Geological Survey study area."

The recovery of the economy of the Democratic Republic of Congo has allowed for the rapid increase in production of copper from this region, while the increased price of cobalt continues to support the recovery of that country’s economy. This has enabled the modernization of the process technology used, particularly the change from direct electrowinning of copper to solvent extraction-electrowinning. With this change has come a variety of technical challenges in optimizing the recovery of cobalt from these sources. In this paper, we discuss aspects of the flowsheets for the production of cobalt from the ores of the DRC and Zambia, highlighting the technological improvements that have been made. Following this description of the practice, we assess the challenges of further improving the recovery and purity of cobalt from these sources. INTRODUCTION The African Copperbelt (Figure 1) is by far the biggest producer and holds the greatest reserves of cobalt (Sheed, 2015). However, the ores of this great mining region are extracted primarily for their copper content, and cobalt is a by-product. The ratio of copper-to-cobalt is between 6 and 20 to 1, with the ores from the DRC richer in cobalt than those from Zambia. The overall supply of cobalt, shown in Figure 2, is increasing due to an increase in demand for its use as a battery material. Cobalt is used in superalloys, hard metals, pigments, catalysts magnets, tyre adhesives, lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, and wear-resistant coatings, amongst others. Although these generic categories persist, Figure 3 shows how the relative usage of cobalt is changing due to the uptake of electric vehicles in China and Europe. Cobalt is a key element in lithium-ion batteries, and because it is widely anticipated that electric vehicles will be legislatively encouraged, it is anticipated that the demand for cobalt will rise. This anticipated increase in demand resulted in an increase in the price for cobalt, to which suppliers responded over-eagerly, and the price has dropped dramatically in the first few months of 2019, as shown in Figure 4. However, there is a clear cycle of price peaks in cobalt’s history.

"At the Falconbridge Limited, Canadian Nickel Division, Sudbury Operations, we investigated the ""NO NOISE"" ear muffs model NN3-F which is a Swedish product with foam-filled sealing rings (the Hellberg Standard Volume Hearing Protector). It is used extensively at Falconbridge mines in Sudbury.The research which was carried out in the four Falconbridge mines was conducted under three different headings: manufacturer&apos;s attenuation data (psychophysical method), clamping force and head size (bizygomatic diameter), and attenuation tests (physical methods) under working conditions.Manufacturers of hearing protectors claim their products offer noise reductions of 23 decibels (NRR) or more, but they fail to point out that this reduction is obtainable only under ideal conditions. The reality of attenuation under working conditions, as several studies have found, is quite different.Methods for using short measurements to determine the noise exposure index, and for controlling muff-wearing habits, were developed at the Elliot Lake Laboratory. Measurements taken at Falconbridge on ""NO NOISE"" ear muffs revealed that they have a practical attenuation of some IO to 13 decibels. It is important to note here that measurements also revealed that clamping force (thus attenuation) was in an inverse relationship with ear muff comfort. Measuring attenuation using noise dosimeters was a difficult job. Not a single surveyor would accept these measurements (physical method) for absolute accuracy. Apart from that, it was impossible to measure, in one shift, more than two work stations. Because of this, we sought a solution: measuring head size and clamping force in relation to actual attenuations.A detailed analysis of the relationship between attenuation and head size/clamping force was done at four mines. Standard deviation ellipses (standard error ellipses) for head size versus clamping force are in close agreement with measurements that were carried out. In order to measure clamping force an apparatus was constructed and a method for measuring suspension system durability is described in Appendices Band C of this report. At the same time we sought to reduce deterioration of ear muffs in mines as well as to put in place a system whereby attenuation can be controlled and improved. The clamping force apparatus can be operated automatically. The proposed control system is quick, simple and efficient . This system is equally applicable in small and large mining operations, and it can be totally automated and the data computerized for audit of the results. This control system is a new step in controlling ear muff attenuation in working environments.From these measurements of NN3-F ""NO NOISE"" muffs it can be concluded that ear muffs are not the total solution to protect the worker from noise.As the results were evaluated folio wing measurement, Falconbridge switched from the NN3-F ""NO NOISE"" muffs to approximately 90% Mark V ""NO NOISE"" muffs and 10% Mark V MSA muffs. These new muffs showed much better head size versus clamping force relationship and can be expected to produce 14 dBA or better attenuation of noise. Current trend of the global flow of strategic metals are analyzed to discuss the strategy of the development of recycling technology and alternative technology. In many cases, each global flow of metal is changing from the trilateral structure of U.S., EU and Japan in the later 20th century into the convergence to China as the factory of the world. Scrap flows are also changing dynamically. A long term change of prices of metal has gotten changed since the entrance of this century. The estimation of metal consumption up to 2050, in which the author estimated that many kinds of metal will overshoot the reserve base line, is revised considering these change of current trends.
