"The Canadian Exploration Incentive Program (CEIP), which was announced by the federal government on May 3, 1988, promises to maintain the viability of flow-through shares as a financing mechanism which has proven to be so crucial to the health of the junior exploration sector. This month, Tax Notes examines, the main features of CEIP, which will come into play on January J, 1989. IntroductionOn May 3,1988, the Honourable Marcel Masse, Minister of Energy Mines & Resources, and the Honourable Gerald Merrithew, Minister of State (Forestry and Mines) announced the Canadian Exploration Incentive Program (CEIP). Under CEIP, the federal government will make cash payments to eligible applicants equal to 30% of eligible exploration expenses. CEIP payments will be available with respect to both mineral, and oil and gas, exploration. In essence, the program will replace the ""mining exploration depletion allowance"" (MEDA) presently applicable to mineral exploration, and the Canadian Exploration and Development Incentive Program (CEDIP) which is presently available to the oil and gas exploration sector.This paper discusses briefly the main features of CEIP insofar as the program will affect mineral exploration. The comments herein are based on the Canadian Exploration Incentive Program Act which received Royal Assent on July 21, 1988, and on a discussion paper which was released by EM&R in May 1988. The bulk of the rules relating to the program will be in the form of regulations which have yet to be finalized. It is understood that EM&R would like to have the regulations in force by October I, 1988, when the oil and gas portion of CEIP becomes effective. In this paper, the rectangular strands of Incoloy 800 superalloy were fabricated with a pilot vertical continuous caster in Northeastern University, China. In the processing, an electromagnetic stirring (EMS) is applied on the secondary cooling zone to control the solidifying structure and segregation of elements in the strands. The solidification structure of Incoloy 800 superalloy strands were investigated at different electric parameters and casting parameters. The research results show that the EMS can effectively restrain the dendrite growth and increase the ratio of equiaxed grains in Incoloy 800 superalloy strands as applied a suitable electric parameters and cooling condition in the process of continuous casting. The evolution of dendrite crystallization in Incoloy 800 alloy strands from the surface to its center during the solidifying process was investigated with and without EMS.

"The object of this paper is to review electrolytic copper refining as it was in 1954(1), as it is now in 1984, and to comment on the many improvements which have been made in the last thirty years.In 1954, and even in 1984, the ASTM specification B 115 for cathode copper was 99.90% minimum copper plus silver content and 100% minimum electrical conductivity, IACS standard. However, to meet competition and to satisfy the requirements of the fabricators and the electrical industry, the electrolytic refinery must supply a product of 99.95% to 99.96% minimum copper content, and 101fJlo minimum electrical conductivity.The range of cathode impurities reported by 20 major copper refineries in 1954 are given in Table I.The much more rigid British Specification, DD 78, for high-purity cathode copper, specifies individual elements, as well as groups of elements, as shown in Table 2.The Svenska test has been replaced by a similar procedure which uses 2.r mm diameter wire. The ISO test is the one listed in the DD 78 specification. In Table 3, corresponding values for the Svenska and ISO test s are given for various wire bar coppers."

"The paper briefly describes the development of the Eickhoff ESA60 roadcutter which is based on the old and well used principles of the shearer loader. It is intended to show that the machine offers a viable alternative to the normal methods used for driving roadways and also for coal production . References are made to installations currently operating in Europe with applications ranging from roadway drivage to pillar recovery. The paper also looks at possible applications in Canada.IntroductionThis paper is an attempt to show how the principles used in mechanical cutting, conveying and roof support are being applied to a development system capable of catering to a variety of situations and conditions. It is also intended to illustrate how the same system can be used as a total mining system for the mining of many minerals.In order to give some sort of time perspective to the age of the principles, reference can be made to an article in Coal Mining & Processing which states:- During World War II the Germans developed the "" panzer"" or armoured face conveyor.- After the war the English developed power cutters or trepanners that were mounted on the face conveyor, this then developed into the shearer.- The first shearer was produced by the Anderson Company in England in 1950 and shortly after that the Eickhoff Company started manufacturing shearers in German y.- The first hydraulic roof support was produced in 1954 by Gullick.This is a potted history of the three major components of the new system, i.e.:- Mechanical cutting element based on the shearer.- Transport element based on the panzer.- Optional roof support based on the hydraulic face supports.It can therefore be said that since the "" youngest"" of the elements was produced in 1954 the principles of the system in respect of the rapid change in mining equipment are in fact old.Of the three major components the most important is the cutting element since the major benefits of the system are to be obtained from this."

The main objective of this work is to optimize the grinding technologies for tantalum ores with high pressure grinding rolls. The selected ore for this study was an altered leucogranite from the Penouta Open Pit Mine (NW Spain). In the present work mono-size experiments have been carried out using grinding rolls with controlled pressure. The particle size distribution has been monitored in the input and output of the high pressure grinding rolls for each experiment. The cylinder pressure that is transmitted to the particles has been determined. New population balance models are presented for high pressure grinding rolls with parameter adjust for tantalum ore. The obtained model uses the physical description of particles under the comminution action of the grinding rolls. The obtained results are in agreement with other models and the errors in the adjustment are low. The selection function proposed for this model describes adequately the breakage probability of the particles inside the high pressure grinding rolls. The presented model can be a good alternative for simulating a high pressure grinding roll process. INTRODUCTIONTechnology for grinding have been improved for many years, introducing new variables and parameters involving energy consumption, mechanical stress analysis of the compression particles or pressure application for optimizing the comminution (Morrell et al, 1997). High pressure grinding rolls is a modern technology that is proven to reduce the operating costs in full scale plants when compared with other milling technologies. Its benefits on energy saving and simplicity in the process have been studied and applied, first in the cement clinker industry (Abouzeid & Fuerstenau, 2009) and after in mining activities, especially in metallic ore deposits (Austin et al, 1991; Guevara & Menacho, 1992; Morrel et al, 1997; Torres & Casali 2009; Numbi & Xia, 2015). "Detailed mineralogical examination of gold-bearing rocks, ores, concentrates and other samples should be considered an integral part of any study of a deposit for which exploitation is being planned. Adequate mineralogical study, although time consuming and often costly, can significantly improve understanding of the mineralization, can help to optimize the results of any metallurgical testing and can be of great value in case of potential trouble-shooting. The advantages and disadvantages of various examination techniques are discussed with reference to a number oj mineralogical studies oj Canadian gold-bearing samples.IntroductionVarious authors, notably Gasparrini (1983), Harris (1989) and Henley (1990), have stressed that mineralogical study of gold ores is critical to successful and efficient beneficiation. Only in cases where diagnostic cyanide leach testing is successful can detailed mineralogical examination be disregarded. Such examination of gold-bearing rocks and metallurgical products is all too often neglected because the methods involved are believed to be time-consuming, costly, and may carry a considerable degree of inaccuracy. Commonly, bulk metallurgical testing is, carried out without prior or concurrent mineralogical examination, causing the results of the testwork to be difficult to interpret, or in some cases, misleading. This, in turn, may lead to> significant delays to the project at the feasibility stage or mean that understanding of the sample is limited, preventing the introduction of prudent modifications at a later stage if problems arise. Mineralogical studies may guide the successful implementation of a metallurgical test program."

"Recovering pyrite from the gangue with high sulfur content is of great significance for both economic development and environment protection in China. Due to the global water shortage and high cost in wet separation processes, it is urgent to explore more efficient energy and water conservation method in mineral processing field. This study has proposed an innovative method based on density difference for fine pyrite enrichment by vibration fluidized bed. In this study, the total sulfur content (TSC) of the gangue sample is 19.18%, and the pyrite is disseminated with fine granularity in the gangue which should be crushed for dissociation. The combination and dissociation experiment of -6mm gangue shows that the dominant density of -6+3mm, -3+1mm and -1+0.5mm comminuted material is +2.9g/cm3. Based on the analysis of characteristic, the effects of various factors on the separation performance were experimental studied. The results show that gas velocity, vibration intensity and bed height all have the significant effects. With the increases of superficial gas velocity, vibration intensity and bed height, the separation performance all presents a decreasing tendency. Additionally, the TSC of -6+3mm, -3+1mm and -1+0.5mm materials are respectively up to 37.94% , 35.43% and 30.61% at the optimum conditions, which are the 1.72?1.90 and 2.29 times as much as the TSC of raw material, respectively. This study demonstrates the vibrated fluidized bed can recovery pyrite from the gangue effectively.INTRODUCTIONWith the increasing mining and separation of coal, the yield of gangue has a further growth tendency, which has become one of the largest reserves of industrial waste (Querol et al., 2008). However, many harmful elements, such as S?NOx and Hg, is existed in the gangue leading the serious damage to the soil and environment (Hao, Yun, Zhanyuan, Sen, & Song, 2013). In addition, the economic would be suffered from the loss resulting in the occupied of arable land caused by the accumulation of gangue (Yeheyis, Shang, & Yanful, 2009; Zhou, Liu, Yan, Fang, & Wang, 2012). Therefore, the government has put forward the policies of ""green mining"" in China (Xing & Gao, 2009; R. Zhang, Ai, Zhou, Ju, & Zhang, 2015; Zheng, Du, Li, Qiu, & Yang, 2015). Among different research areas of coal utilization, extracting the useful minerals has become one of hot topics (Ledin & Pedersen, 1996; P. Patra & Natarajan, 2003; Partha Patra & Natarajan, 2004). At present, many researchers has devoted to the desulfurization of coal all over the world. As result, the sulfur element, which is mainly existed in the presence of pyrite, would transferred in the tailings, namely the gangue. Meanwhile, the pyrite is important raw materials to produce rubber, paper, textile and match. Consequently, recovering the pyrite from the gangue is not only suitable to the requirement of ""green mining"", but it could turn the waste into the treasure having the important significance."

"The maintenance records for AL-60 airlegs at Falconbridge Ltd. are used to demonstrate some of the procedures for the analysis of such data.The data are not representative of pure failure s of one type or another. In fact, the records are for the undefined pseudo-failures which are usually found in industrial operations. However, because the machines are brought to the shop only when inoperative, the individual recorded components are treated as failures. Manual calculations are conducted to show the analysis of variance (ANO VA) approach to determine whether certain data can be combined; only a limited number of the 206 machines being considered. The manual procedures continue with the weighting of the suspensions; i.e. terminations f or reasons other than the failure of the given component. After the data are sequenced in the proper order, the nature or pattern of the data is determined using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) test.It is recognized that these manual examples must be replaced by compute r methods 10 process voluminous data of this nature. Such programs are developed and available. However, a program called RELCODE is used in this case to correspond to the manual examples and to take into account the suspensions. These analytical procedures form the basis for those studies required for good maintenance management."

"The mining industry has developed a strong need for monitoring underground openings since bulk mining, used for increased productivity, has become the dominant mining method industry wide. The large stopes associated with bulk mining methods generally have to remain open and stable for several months, and monitoring is essential to provide an indication of ground response to mining and stope stability. The instrumentation data is also important during design optimization, which is used to maximize recovery, to minimize the dilution of ore and to minimize costs. Monitoring is essential to implement safety and is also critical in stope and mining sequence designs. The safety related aspects of monitoring include the protection of underground workers and the prevention of accidents by providing early warnings of the onset of any ground instability. The design related aspects of monitoring involve the development of data bases used for stope dimensioning and mine sequencing and timing and the monitoring of ground behaviour as a result of mining to verify the validity of the design thus allowing for remedial action during operation.Manual instrumentation data collection is, in a number of cases, economically unfeasible and, in many situations, dangerous as instrumented areas become inaccessible or extremely unstable. Also, because more and more complex instrumentation is being installed in underground operations, in several cases it becomes practically impossible to collect readings manually. The design and development of low-cost acquisition systems for mine wide monitoring would thus constitute an important step toward automation in excavation instrumentation. A unique menu-driven automatic 32-channel analog data acquisition and analysis system with a built-in rock failure warning mechanism has been designed and developed. This low cost acquisition system is capable of receiving, processing, displaying and storing the transmitted instrument data remotely and automatically. Computer software has been designed to provide data reduction and analysis immediately in the field and to automatically display results in graphical form for quick interpretation. Automatic data interpretation is used to show trends in rock mass behaviour and the system can be used to provide early warning of rock failure to the mine personnel working in there so that immediate remedial action can be safely taken."

A pyritic Zn-Pb-Cu ore waspercolation leached with acidified ferric sulphate solutions; zinc and copper were leached, lead was oxidized, but not dissolved, and pyrtte was essentially unattacked. High zinc extractions were achieved after a few months leaching, and substantial zinc solution concentrations could be produced by recycle of the oxidized solution. The leaching rate was generally controlled by the transport of the ferric sulphate oxidant. Zinc extractions increased with increasingferric ion concentration or flow rate, but were essentially independent of the concentrations of sulphuric acid, ferrous sulphate, cupric sulphate or chloride ion. The leaching rates were insensitive to the height of the ore column once a minimum height had been exceeded (0.8-1.0 m). Elemental sulphur was the principal sulphidic reaction product, but variations in the ratio of sulphur to sulphate produced anomalous temperature effects.

"A helicopter-borne geophysical survey was flown in 1978 over selected areas on Kyushu Island, Japan. The principal sensors were a moving source electro-magnetic system and a magnetometer. Maps of apparent resistivity were generated from the EM data. Based on the resistivity signature of known deposits within the survey areas, targets were selected for ground follow-up. Drilling of one such target in late 1980 resulted in the discovery of a gold deposit from which full production will begin in the summer of 1985. The deposit contains a minimum 120 tonnes (3.86 million ounces) of recoverable gold and is the largest in Japanese history. The deposit is in a geological setting previously unsuspected of hosting precious metal deposits. The case history suggests a preferred exploration strategy which might be employed in other similar geological environments.IntroductionThe Hishikari area is located some forty-five kilometres north of Kagoshima city, Kagoshima Prefecture, Kyushu Island, Japan (Fig. I). The area and its environs is one with a number of gold deposits which have been worked with varying results since the late 1800s. The large st deposit in terms of recovered gold is the Ohkuchi (or Oguchi) Mine (Fig . 2) which was recently closed due to exhaustion of reserves. The Ohkuchi Mine started production in 1896. A total of 22.2 tonnes (714 ,000 ounces) of gold, with an average ore grade of 13.6 grams/tonne (0.39 ounces/ton), was extracted over the Life of the mine.In an attempt to discover new deposits , the Metal Mining Agency of Japan (MMAJ) carried out a regional geologic mapping program of the area between 1975 and 1977. This was followed by a helicopter-borne electromagnetic and magnetic survey. The airborne survey was flown by Scintrex and the compiled results presented to MMAJ in early 1979."

"Shaft sinking by blind shaft drilling offers the mining industry a different approach to shaft construction. Benefits of blind drilling include less construction time and fewer safety problems while being economically competitive with conventional sinking methods under certain conditions in soft water-bearing formations.Technology and equipment are available today to drill blind shafts up to 20 feet in diameter and over 3,000 feet deep. This is an extension of proven techniques developed by private industry. To drill a 20-foot-diameter hole requires a specially manufactured hydraulic drill unit with a rated hoist of 2 million pounds and 500,000 ft/lb of torque.This brief paper will discuss the following aspects of blind shaft drilling:• benefits;• equipment f or drilling;• circulation methods;• circulation rates;• shaft alignment; and• progress rates to be expected.IntroductionShaft sinking by blind shaft drilling offers the mining industry an improved alternative method for shaft construction. The drilling of 20-foot -diameter shafts to depth s in excess of 3,000 feet can be done by utilizing equipment specifically designed and manufactured for this purpose. This equipment is a distant cousin, at best, to standard oil well drilling rigs. The actual configuration of these drilling machines will be discussed in a following section.To most people, the drilling of mine shafts may seem to be a new or at least recent technology. However, as early as the I920s, German and Dutch miners were drilling 24-foot diameter shafts for coal mines. What led ""miners to resort to drilling were ground conditions that still plague conventional shaft sinkers today: soft , water-bearing formations. The major drawback to these early attempts was a low penetration rate due to poor bit cleaning. This, however, was not the end of early shaft drilling activity. From 1936 to 1950, a number of mine shafts were drilled by the calyx or coring method. This method employs a bit with a large bore down the center. As it drills, it cuts a core. When 5 to 10 feet have been drilled, the core is removed. The disadvantages of this method were the time and work involved in breaking the core free, and it was inadequate in soft water-bearing ground."

"On the basis of differences derived from genetic, descriptive, and grade-tonnage data, graphite deposits are classified here into three deposit types: disseminated flake, amorphous (microcrystalline), or graphite veins. Descriptive models have been constructed for each of these deposit types, and grade-tonnage models are constructed for disseminated flake and amorphous deposit types. Grade and tonnage data are used also to construct grade-tonnage models that assist in predicting the size and grade of undiscovered graphite deposits. The median tonnage and carbon grade of disseminated flake deposits are 240 000 tonnes and 9% carbon and for amorphous deposits, 130 000 tonnes and 40% carbon. The differences in grade between disseminated flake and amorphous deposit types are statistically significant, whereas the differences in amount of contained carbon are not .IntroductionIndustrial minerals, including mineral construction materials such as sand, gravel, and crushed stone, have historically exceeded metals in global production value. Today, industrial minerals are being used in new and sophisticated ways in response to the late 1980s emerging information- and service-based economies' requirements for less metal and more industrial minerals . Natural graphite is an example of one such mine ral that has been known since ancient times, and is now finding new applications. Graphite was first used as an industrial mineral in Bavaria in 1400 A.D. where it was an important component of crucibles. Traditionally, natural graphite has been used in heavy industries. New applications, such as development of carbon-magnesite bricks a decade ago and the current advancement of alumina/graphite refractories, are increasing its graphite use. Other new uses for natural graphite, such as the use of graphite powder as a thermal blanket for the continuous casting o f steel (Northern Miner, 1987) and the addition of expanded graphite to polyurethane foam where it acts as a flame retardant (Industrial Minerals, 1987), are increasing the demand for this mineral. To meet future demand for graphite and other industrial minerals, knowledge of the characteristics of the deposit types in which they are found is important. A further look at the deposit types for graphite and at construction of descriptive and grade-tonnage models is warranted .The graphite industry recognizes three basic types of graphite , distinguished primarily on the basis of grain size: crystalline flake, lump and chip, and amorphous. These naturally occurring forms of graphite are products of metamorphism and are found in schists of various types, gneisses, and marbles. Temperatures of at [east 400°C are thought to be required for graphite formation (Landis, 1971). Synthetic graphite, also known as artificial or manufactured graphite, is a man-made carbon product and offers higher purity and lower crystallinity than natural graphite. Several authors have written about graphite's unique physical and chemical properties and the uses for individual types of graphite (Krauss et 01., 1988; Graffin, 1983; and Harben and Bate s, 1984)."

"Scientists throughout the world have observed radioactive disequilibrium in the uranium decay series. Radiometric and fluorometric determinations of U in plants from the Goldfields district and in sediments and rocks from the Beaverlodge district exhibit marked radioactive disequilibrium. The eU/U ratio in plants rooted in mineralized ground shifts from greater than unity to less than unity for those rooted in background soils. A similar shift is observed in the transition from rocks to stream sediments and to lake sediments in the Beaverlodge district.Results of a Rn-Ra-U survey of lake bottoms in the Key Lake district show that anomalous hydromorphic U from U mineralization is parallelled by anomalous Rn, even though there is much less Ra in the lake-bottom sediments than one would expect from the amount of U present. IntroductionDisequilibrium in the U decay series has been studied for many years and is observed in almost all surficial environments. Rosholt (1959) measured U, 234Pa, 23O'fh, 226Ra, 222Rn, and 210Pb in a large number of U ores and outlined six types of situations to explain disequilibrium. Davy (1974) outlines the geological significance of radioactive disequilibrium situations with respect to exploration. Levinson and Coetzee (1978) discuss possible mechanisms by which separations of parent and daughter elements are affected and suggest analytical pitfalls that may be encountered in the use of radiometric techniques when disequilibrium has occurred. Generally, it is the oxyphile and easily complexed parent 238U (with its associated isotopes 235 U and 234U) that is leached from rocks and soils at a faster rate than are the daughters, 230Th, 226Ra, 2loPb, and 206Pb. This mobilized U is adsorbed on sediments in streams and lakes, or enters groundwaters, where it is eventually precipitated under reducing conditions, occasionally in oregrade concentrations. "This paper describes the development of a process flowsheet designed to provide high dewatering rates and to bring about savings in tailing disposal costs. The flowsheet comprises a hydrocyclone, a settling cone and a thickener arranged in closed circuit. The mill tailing, after pulp density adjustment, is fed to the hydrocyclone which yields two products. The underflow product is sent to the settling cone for further dewatering. The overflow product, together with the settling cone overflow, goes to the thickener which, with the aid of flocculants, gives a clear effluent and a relatively dilute underflow. The latter combines with the original mill tailing to form the hydrocyclone feed. Solids finally leave the system in the settling cone underflow which can reach pulp densities of up to 78%, making it suitable for direct disposal or for use as mine backfill.Some discussion is included for the selection and sizing of equipment required for this process. INTRODUCTIONDewatering is an essential process for the disposal of mill tailings which forms an added burden in milling practice, often with little or no return. It is, therefore, desirable to conduct this process as economically as possible. One way of reducing costs would be to increase the rate of dewatering so that savings can be made in the size of dewatering unit s which would lead to lower capital and operating expenditures.A common method of dewatering mill tailings is gravity sedimentation which is frequently carried out with the aid of flocculation. In most cases, flocculation greatly enhances the sedimentation process, but only until a pulp density of 50% to 55% is reached in the settled material.Centrifugal sedimentation in hydrocyclones can provide high pulp densities rapidly, but does not result in a clear effluent.This paper outlines a suitable combination of gravity and centrifugal sedimentations that results in an over-all high rate of dewatering. The system developed produces a material of high pulp density while at the same time giving clear effluent."

"Paramount to sound aggregate resource management is an awareness of what resources exist. For the past six years, New Brunswick has been conducting granular aggregate resource inventories in and around urban centres as a means of documenting, both qualitatively and quantitatively, these resources.These aggregate studies require extensive ground truthing due to the often small nature of the surficial feature s as well as extensive foliage. Approximately 35% of the province's land mass has been mapped at a 1:50,000 scale as part of this on-going program. Reports are published annually and include data on size analysis, lithology soundness, abrasion and absorption.Aggregate deposits in New Brunswick frequently reflect the local bedrock lithology and, whereas much of New Brunswick is underlain by soft, friable sandstone of Pennsylvanian age, it is necessary to transport aggregate for higher-specification use considerable distances. Alternatively, the construction industry must turn to crushed stone as a source of asphaltic or concrete aggregate.Over 40% of New Brunswick's land mass is owned by the Crown, and aggregate resources are managed under the Quarriable Substances Act. Under this legislation, permit applications are reviewed by a Land Management Advisory Committee which consists of representatives from the various government departments involved.IntroductionSurficial materials either directly or indirectly form the basis of much of our economic activity, whether it is the field of agriculture, forestry, manufacturing, construction or other. Although sand and gravel have been produced and used since the day s of early settlement, the economic significance attached to such materials has only recently been recognized by both government and the general public."

Frequently, the manufacturer finds that l:ihe fibres as he buys them are not adaptable to his plant processes, and, therefore, it is necessary for him either to contact the mine supplying the material and request a specific texture for the :fibre or to reprocess the fibre in his own plant.When the mine or mill manager is requested to change his milling equipment to produce a special grade of fibre with a specific texture, he would like to comply. However, if he began to make special fibre grades for each customer, he would be in the position of constantly rearranging his milling technique, adding more equipment, or building a new mill. In the end, his mill would he producing hundreds of different fibre grades of varying degrees of texture, which is a difficult accomplishment if he desires to maintain any quantity of production."

Radiation plays a critical role in the thermal behaviour of hydrometallurgical process equipment. This effect is particularly important when designing refractory lined equipment used in pressure leach/oxidation processes. In order to simplify this non-linear mode of heat transfer, the effects of radiation had previously been incorporated in an equivalent convective film coefficient in finite element methods (FEM). This prior method omits the effects of radiosity, a critical aspect of radiation heat transfer, which affects the design of refractory lining systems in autoclave vessels. Given that 60% of the heat loss in actual plant practice of an autoclave is due to radiation, reliability in the FEM is therefore impacted. This study validates the use of radiosity in FEM through thermal loading using a combination of simple geometries to be applied to complex environments such as vessel nozzle clusters. The added benefits of using a radiosity load includes an increase in confidence in thermal distribution results, greater accuracy in determining appropriate refractory lining systems, weld overlay sizing, and increased accuracy in structural analysis.

"The hydraulic transport of solids through pipelines can have many advantages over other modes of transport. Numerous successful applications both within plants and over longer distances have demonstrated the technical and economic feasibility of slurry pipelining. Solids successfully transported include kaolin, coal, iron ore, gilsonite and limestone, and others, such as sulphur and potash, are likely to be transported in Canada in the near future. However, though the technology of solids pipelining is quite advanced the underlying principles have not yet been formulated past the semi-empirical stage. The main objective of this paper is to present a discussion of the important technical and economic considerations in the design of so lids pipeline systems by reference to typical data. The Worthington slurry pumps and pilot facilities are briefly described."
