The processing of a bulk concentrate containing copper as chalcocite, enargite, bornite and chalcopyrite along with pyrite and precious metals of silver and gold was studied. A leaching study was undertaken to examine the application of the atmospheric acid leaching process to a bulk copper concentrate for copper recovery followed by cyanidation or thiosulfate leaching for gold and silver recovery. The extraction of copper exceeded 90% under some conditions and the recovery of gold and silver reached a maximum of 44 and 45%, respectively. A sample of bulk concentrate was roasted in air to oxidize the sulfides with release of sulfur dioxide followed by acid leaching of the roaster calcine and cyanidation of the acid leach solution. The copper extraction reached over 92% and the gold extraction exceeded 88%. The sulfur dioxide may be captured for acid production. INTRODUCTION The processing of a large primary copper deposit in Indonesia is under investigation. One of the possible routes for processing involves flotation of a bulk copper-gold concentrate followed by treatment by an atmospheric leach/SX-EW process for copper recovery. The atmospheric leach residue would then be leached for recovery of gold and silver. A second route involves roasting of the concentrate followed by acid leaching and SX-EW for copper recovery. The leach residue from the roaster calcine would then be leached for recovery of gold and silver. The roaster off-gases could be used for sulfuric acid manufacture, enabling the production of a valuable by-product. The Cobre Las Cruces (CLC) process (Munoz, Garcia, & Delgado, 2017) was designed to treat a resource of copper discovered close to Seville, Spain. The process was developed by Outotec with MK Gold (original project owner). INMET Mining subsequently purchased the deposit from MK Gold and built the copper processing facility. The CLC process is similar to the Mt. Gordon Copper process; except that OKTOP reactors have been installed instead of a low temperature, low pressure autoclave process. The plant was designed to treat 1.3 mtpa of ore at a grade of 6.2% Cu to produce 72,000 tpa of cathode copper over a 15 year project life. The main gangue mineral at Cobre Las Cruces was pyrite. The Cobre Las Cruces ore is therefore similar to a rougher flotation concentrate containing copper minerals and pyrite. The roasting of a rougher flotation concentrate can be designed to produce hematite, basic copper oxides and sulfur dioxide off gas. The acid leaching of the basic copper oxides may produce soluble copper for SX-EW recovery of copper. The sulfur dioxide off-gas may be used to make sulfuric acid.

The objectives of discounted cash flow analysis are to determine:.. The net present value of a stream of expected future cash revenues and expenditures... The rate of return which the expected future cash flows will yield on a given level of initial cash investment.In the case of mineral properties, discounted cash flow analysis is generally accepted as the preferred method of valuation, whenever sufficient data are available to permit its reasoned application. Sufficient data are required to support estimation of all of the individual elements of cash revenue and cash expenditure which will be associated with the development and operation of the property, up to the end of its estimated life. It is the accuracy of these input estimates which determines the validity of the resulting determinations of profitability and rate of return on invested capital.In undertaking any discounted cash flow analysis, it is important to recognize certain fundamental attributes of the mining industty:.. The basis of any mineral development is the existence of an ore reserve... Costs are determined by the number of tonnes mined and processed, while revenues are determined by the number of pounds or ounces of metal produced. The two are related by the recovered grade of the ore... Profit is typically more sensitive to changes in revenue than it is to changes in cost... Commodity price is a principal determinant of revenue, but it is also the factor with which is associated the greatest level of financial risk.In the end, of all of the factors which must be considered in the discounted cash flow valuation of a mineral property, the most significant are the reliability of the reserve estimate, particularly with respect to recovered grade, the price at which the product is to be sold, and the risk of not maintaining the projected level of price."

Conditional bias is an infamous problem with estimation methods including kriging. Changing estimation parameters will mitigate, but not remove, conditional bias. The conditional bias of kriging is well understood; however, there is widespread confusion in the literature and among practicing geostatisticians regarding the conditional bias of geostatistical simulation. There is no conditional bias of simulation when the simulation results are used correctly. The correct use of simulation for recoverable reserves estimation is to (1) generate multiple realizations conditional to all available data at a small scale, (2) linearly average all realizations to the chosen block size and (3) calculate the probability of each block being ore and the ore grade of each block. The ?probability of ore? and the ?ore grade? are conditionally nonbiased.

Iron ore mines of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) have to comply with strict chemical composition norms laid down for iron ore lumps supplied to its steel plants. This requires a careful planning of the overall ore excavation operation. In general terms, the problem can be stated as: Given the chemical composition of ore for all excavation sites, excavation capacity of each shovel, distance of each excavation site from the crushing plant and the number of dumpers available for transport of the ore, find out the percentage of ore to be excavated from each excavation site such that the production rate is maximized and the chemical composition norm is satisfied to the best possible extent. This paper presents an approach to solve this problem using Branch and Bound method. The specification for r.o.m. quality has been modified by incorporating a new parameter, ?Al2O3 / SiO2? ratio, which has a significant effect on the performance of iron blast furnace.

Numerous rock blasting design methodologies have been developed over the years, relating either to the primary objectives of blasting, such as the size distribution of the blasted material, or to its undesirable side effects, such as damage to the remaining rock mass. All existing methodologies, while of use, do have serious shortcomings. The question remains whether further improvements can be achieved in the field of practical rock blasting engineering. One approach that seems to hold promise is the relatively new matrix-based rock engineering systems (RES) methodology. It has been conceptually demonstrated that RES could be efficiently adapted to blasting. A brief overview of rock blasting design techniques and their main shortcomings is followed by the basic concepts governing rock engineering systems and a discussion on their pertinence to blasting. The paper concludes with a review of current efforts to develop a useful practical blast design tool using RES. SOMMAIRE Le potentiel d?application des systèmes d?ingénierie du roc aux tirs à l?explosif. De nombreuses méthodologies de conception d?abattage du roc à l?explosif ont été développées au cours des années, qui ont adressé soit les principaux objectifs des tirs, comme par exemple la granulométrie du matériel dynamité, soit ses effets secondaires indésirables, tels les dommages au massif rocheux. Toutes les méthodes existantes fonctionnent dans une certaine mesure et sont utiles - elles sont cependant pour ainsi dire toutes affectées par des limitations ou défauts plus ou moins sévères. La question demeure quant à savoir si des améliorations supplémentaires peuvent être apportées dans le domaine de la conception pratique des opérations d?abattage du roc à l?explosif. Une approche alternative qui semble prometteuse est celle relativement récente des systèmes matriciels d?ingénierie du roc (?Rock Engineering Systems?, ou RES). Il a été démontré de manière conceptuelle que les RES ont le potentiel d?être adaptés aux opérations de sautage. Une brêve revue des principales techniques de conception des tirs à l?explosif est suivie d?un énoncé des principes de base gouvernant les RES, ainsi que d?une discussion sur leur pertinence aux opérations de tir. Cet article conclut avec la revue d?un projet de recherche axé vers le développement d?une méthodologie de conception des tirs à l?explosif basée sur les RES.

"Greater reliability of mineral deposit and reserve estimates can be attained through better quality control of the data and information acquisition, and the estimation processes. Le but principal de cette étude était de vérifier certaines hypothèses de nature minéralogique susceptibles d'expliquer en tout ou en partie les variations importantes observées au concentrateur no 1 de Mines Gaspé quant aux performances du circuit B de broyage et de flottation. A cette fin, nous avons examiné six séries d'échantillons prélevés lors d'une campagne de mesures effectuée au cours de l'été 1980. Ainsi, la capacité du circuit de broyage semble dépendre principalement devariation s dans les caractéristiques minéralogiqu es et texturales du minerai, par exemple du rapport grenat/quartz, le grenat ayant une influence néfaste sur le rendement de cette étape, contrairement au quartz . Quant au processus de concentration, la fraction du cuivre sous f orme de minéraux difficilement récupérés par flottation, en particulier des carbonates de cuivre, varie de façon significative dans le minerai, et cela peut certes expliquer en partie des récupérations parfois plus basses. Malgré ces variations important es de la composition minéralogique globale du minerai et de sa broyabilité, le degréde libération des sulfures de cuivre dans le produit de broyage dépend presque seulement de la granulométrie de ce produit. Afin de garantir des performances égales à l'étape de concentration, il est fortement suggéré de contrôler cette granulométrie à un niveau constant.

Following the initial development of the zinc-lead blast furnace, efforts have been directed both at increasing the scope of the process and increasing the cash return. The paper reviews the process developments which enable the process to smelt efficiently a range of material which encompasses high-grade zinc sulphide concentrates. mixed concentrates, Waelz oxide, zinc ashes and other materials blended to give a furnace feed ranging from 25 to 65% zinc and from 1 to 25% lead, with a copper-lead ratio exceeding 1 to 8. The paper also reviews the process developments which have enabled the capacity of a furnace and condenser system of standard size to be boosted from 30,000 to 80,000 tonnes/annum. The benefits achieved are used as a justification for continuation of the development of the zinc-lead blast furnace. Predictions are made of the benefits expected from further developments.

A corrosion-resistant lining is, quite often, selected on the merits of its corrosion resistance only. This paper demonstrates the effects of temperature, pressure, weather, design aspects and variances of physical properties within the scope of the generic designation of a corrosion-resistant material or materials. The base for the study is a rubber- and brick-lined steel vessel, with unchanged chemical conditions. "Overland conveyor systems to transport bulk materials from mines to processing plants or load-out stations have to be seriously considered as the viable alternative to truck and train haulage systems. With the ever-increasing price of diesel fuel, conveyors with their electrical drives generally prove to be the least costly when operating and maintenance expenses are analyzed for the life of the installation.IntroductionOverland conveyor systems are now considered as one of the viable alternatives which should be closely investigated when a mining company and its engineers initiate studies on methods of transporting raw materials from a mine to a processing plant or rail load-out station.This paper will generalize the overland conveyor and compare it with alternative handling systems. Each installation must be carefully studied to determine the best route, type of foundations river crossings; amount of excavation work for cut and fill, maintenance roads, etc. No two locations are the same nor are the principles of operation of an overland conveyor the same as those of a normal plant or mine belt conveyor. The proper time and effort must be put into the study of the system to evaluate the costs for comparison with other systems.The length of the overland conveyor depends on the layout of the mine and plant and the topography of the terrain between the terminals. Individual lengths may be up to 20 km, and a series of conveyors may extend 100 km or more.Advantages of Overland ConveyorsThe main advantage of overland conveyors is the low operating and maintenance costs which will be realized over its years of operation. Although truck haulage probably will permit lower capital investment during the initial phases of the mine development when the annual capacities have not developed to the design level, their operating and maintenance costs will be considerably higher. When evaluating the total costs per ton of material to be handled during the expected life of the operation and the projected increases for diesel fuel versus electricity, overland conveyor systems will generally prove to be economically more viable."

"The area of uranium deposition is situated within the Churchill Province on the western edge of the Wollaston Iithostructural domain where it underlies the eastern edge of the Helikian Athabasca Formation. The Collins Bay deposit is 6 miles north-northeast of the Rabbit Lake mine. Two principal zones of uranium mineralization are described.The ""A"" zone is a partly eroded, high-grade pod of metal oxide and arsenides sheathed by clay-like minerals. It trends north-northeast and lies under 25 to 40feet of water. Uranium mineralization is localized at or adjacent to the unconformity between the Athabasca Formation and the basement rocks. The basement comprises a granitoid Archean terrain overlain by paragneisses of the Aphebian Wollaston Group. ""A "" zone ore contains phyllosilicates, quartz, pitchblende, rammelsbergite, pararammelsbergite, carbonaceous material, galena, gersdorffite, niccolite, carbonate and a trace of sphalerite.The ""B "" zone lies 6,000 ft south of the ""A "", and subcrops under till cover. It is a partly eroded zone composed of metal oxide and arsenides which occur within variably altered Athabasca Formation. Minerals recognized are phyllosilicates, pitchblende, niccotite, gersdorffite, millerite, carbonaceous material, pyrrhotite, skutterudite and a trace of galena. The Athabasca Formation varies from 90 to 160ft thick. Granitoid gneisses of probable Archean age and paragneisses of the Wollaston Group underlie the deposit. An easterly dipping thrust fault transects its length.The deposit is typical of the ""unconformity-type"" uraniumnickel deposits of the Athabasca Basin. Observed features fit well with the ""diagenetic-hydrothermal"" model for such deposits, as envisioned by Hoeve and Sibbald (/978)."
