It is very important for after blasting processes that muck pile fragmentation is predicted and controlled during blasting. Therefore, a significant research effort has been devoted to the development of mathematical equations that predict the value of average muck pile fragmentation. The specific charge parameter used in all of these equations is determined as the ratio of the total mass of explosives used to break a volume of rock. The length of blast surface and the row number of the blasthole are ignored in the calculation of the specific charge. However, in a blasting operation, blasthole geometry may result in additional material being impacted by a blasthole. This is due to effect shares of in both end sides of blastholes and the back region of blasting surface. In this study, a total of 14 blast tests, 8 at the first quarry and 6 at the second quarry of the Bati Anadolu (Western Anatolia) Cement Factory, were performed. In each study area blast tests were designed in the same direction continuously to provide stable structural properties of the rock. Therefore muck pile fragmentation depended on only specific charge values for each blast tests. Specific charge values were calculated according to both an average blasthole and also the total volume of material occurred as a result of blasting for each blast tests. During loading until the end of blasted material the front, the back, the arm off and the bucket off pump hydraulic pressure values occurred in hydraulic pistons of the loader were determined with a lot of data received for each blast tests. After that the relationships between specific charges values obtained according to two different methods and hydraulic pressure values of the loader were established with two correlations. The relationships between specific charges values obtained according to the total volume of material occurred as a result of blasting and hydraulic pressure values of the loader occurred as the best results especially the blasting operations that have the total length of blasting surfaces are short.

Laboratory studies indicate that autogenous heating of low-rank coal can be prevented by a prior treatment which involves immersing the coal for short (5-15 min.) periods in an inert liquid at temperatures between ~ 350° and 400°C. Such "carbonization" effectively reduces the accessible pore volume of the coal to levels at which heat generation through subsequent sorption of moisture and oxygen is too slow to cause significant temperature rises in a stockpile. In addition, this treatment also irreversibly removes most of the moisture held in the raw coal and raises its calorific value by as much as 10-12%.

Recently, renewed interest in the recovery of uranium from leach solutions has necessitated a re-examination of the hydrometallurgy methods used for uranium in the 1960?s to 1970?s. A synthesizing overview of the lessons learned in those decades together with examination of recent developments in this area is warranted. This paper considers uranium recovery chemistry from acid and alkali leach solutions using solvent extraction and resin ion exchange, and provides information on circuit selection and configuration, equipment selection and design, as well as operational considerations. The unique thermodynamics of uranium solvent extraction are also presented and discussed.

Most magnesium alloy sheets show low deformability in rolling. Edge cracks and transverse fractures are common difficulties. In addition, rolled sheets show well-developed basal texture <0001>//ND. The texture causes high anisotropy in mechanical properties and low formability in subsequent metal forming. Differential-speed rolling, where the upper and the lower rolls rotate at different speeds, introduces shear deformation through the thickness. Not rolling texture but shear texture evolves in the sheet so that the asymmetric rolling can be a method of texture control. However the primary slip system of the hcp alloy, is basal, the shear texture should be also basal. Differences between the two basal textures, i.e., the rolling texture and the shear texture, have not been understood completely. In this study, conventional (same-speed) rolling and differential-speed rolling have been applied to commercial AZ31B sheets at 623K. Microstructures, textures and mechanical properties of the rolled sheets before/after annealing are compared. It is found that the basal texture is more pronounced by the asymmetric rolling. On the other hand, the asymmetric rolling is effective to decrease the grain size and the planar anisotropy.

The use of dolomite refractories in steel making and cement industries has advantages over other basic products particularly in countries where this type of refractories is produced. Due to existence of high-quality dolomite deposits in many regions of Iran, there is a good potential for producing dolomite refractories in the country. This study focuses on the effect of such additives as iron oxide and alumina on hydration resistance and density of Iranian dolomite. It was found that addition of Fe2O3 is more effective than Al2O3 on increasing density as well as resistance to hydration of dolomite.

ABSTRACT From approximately 1986 until 2000, uranium production was at a historic low. In 2003, uranium mineral exploration surged, despite the global financial crisis; however, the shortage and aging of qualified and experienced operators and regulators might soon become a constraint to this upsurge. This is true for all types of engineers, geologists, other scientists, tradespeople, and technicians. The situation raises questions about how the global mining industry in general and the uranium sector in particular will cope with future staffing needs. In this paper, the author examines the current situation and describes how some organizations are seeking possible solutions.

The Phelps Dodge El Paso Rod Mill produces approximately 2.4 million pounds per day of copper rod from a casting and rolling operation. The newly formed rod is treated to remove mill scale and oxides using a sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide solution which is bled periodically when the copper concentration reaches 30-35 g/L. The bleed solution is heated to 75° C to destroy the residual peroxide. Copper is then recovered in a 270 cell EMEW electrowinning plant. Clean acid is also regenerated in the EMEW plant and is returned to the rod cleaning circuit. The EMEW plant commissioned in January 2006, has two operators and replaces a copper sulfate plant with fourteen operators. The EMEW plant has a capacity of 1700 kg/day of cathode copper at 2.1 kWh/kg copper deposited. The electrowinning plant operates in closed circuit with the rod mill returning up to 2600 kg/day of sulfuric acid resulting in zero discharge. Use of dimensionally stable anodes (DSA®) ensures that the acid quality is maintained in the closed loop operation. The operating conditions, performance and plant experience of the EMEW copper and acid recovery plant are discussed.

The effect of the Fe3+ lFe2+ redox couple on the chemical and biological dissolution of chalcopyrite was studied. All the tests were carried out in stirred flasks with 100 mL of a ferric/ferrous sulphate solution, in the absence or in the presence of bacteria (iron- or sulphur-oxidizing) and at low (35 DC) and high (68DC) temperature. The initial redox potential was controlled between 300 and 600 m V Ag/ AgCI and silver was used as chemical catalyst. The results showed that the oxidizing action of ferric ion on the chalcopyrite was controlled, in all cases, by nucleation and precipitation of jarosites on unreacted particles. The tendency of Fe3+lFe2+ solutions towards equilibrium favours the activities of both ions to be equal. Consequently, the dissolution rate was faster at relatively low redox potentials (between 400 and 500 mY) than at high values (600 mY). In this sense, the presence of ferrous ion in the system is a key factor to control hydrolysis and precipitation of ferric ion. Unlike jarosite, the elemental sulphur produced during dissolution of chalcopyrite was porous and did not act as a diffusion barrier.

"Background:The recorded coal production in Nova Scotia from 1863 to 1980 was 390, 000, 000 short tons. This extraction was associated with an estimated 60,000,000 short tons of discarded material. This mining discard and coal washing plant reject are located in numerous, varying sized dumps throughout the mining areas. Approximately 70% of these dumps are in the Sydney coal field region of Nova Scotia.The coal content of these dumps varies from 10 to 30% coal with an average of 18%.Energy Costs:The explosion of energy costs in the mid-1970 's greatly increased the sale price of thermal coal which made recovery of coal from some of the dumps economical. The environmental spin-off of these operations will be the rehabilitation of the dumps upon cessation of the coal reclamation operation.Cape Breton Development Corporation, the owner of most of the dumps in the Sydney coal field was receptive to an approach by Selco of reclaiming coal from their dumps. The technology to be used, had been developed by an associate firm in the United Kingdom on similar mine dump situations."

"Mining operations, whether new or existing, are constantly looking for ways to maximize production and improve energy efficiency, while keeping the footprint required to a minimum. The Nordberg MP1250 cone crusher was designed with these three goals in mind. A series of side-by-side evaluations comparing an MP1250 to an MP1000 were completed at two Freeport-McMoRan operations. The first evaluation began October 2009 in a tertiary position and the second began March 2010 in a secondary position, where it remains in full production today. Utilizing 25% higher power capacity than the existing MP1000 tertiary crushers, the MP1250 had 29% higher capacity and 17% lower specific energy, adjusted for differences in feed and product size. The MP1250 compared to the existing MP1000 secondary crushers achieved 30% higher capacity at a slightly reduced specific energy, while achieving a finer product.The MP1250’s higher capacity and energy efficiency may have application in many crushing plants. Depending on site specific economic factors, greenfield projects may benefit from a smaller footprint and less ancillary equipment, whereas brownfield projects may benefit from higher capacity or a finer product within the same footprint."

"The United Nations, through the secretariat of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and its Ad Hoc Group of Experts on Harmonization of Fossil Energy and Mineral Resources Terminology, developed the Framework Classification.The UN Classification applies to fossil energy and mineral reserves and resources located on or below the Earth's surface. It aims to simplify reporting of energy and mineral reserves and resources in a globalized world and is intended to improve global communications regarding remaining quantities of non-renewable fossil energy and mineral resources. The UN Classification is not recognized as a Foreign Code under NI 43-101.SECTION I1.,The United Nations Framework Classification (UNFC-2009) applies to fossil energy and mineral reserves and resources located on or below the Earth' s surface. It serves the needs for classification at a global level (for energy and mineral supply studies), for governments (resources management and policy formulation), for industry (business process management) and for financial reporting.SECTION II2.,The UNFC is a generic system in which quantities are classified on the basis of the three fundamental criteria of economic and social viability (E), field project status and feasibility (F), and geological knowledge (G), using a numerical coding system. Combinations of these criteria create a three-dimensional system. Categories (e.g. El, E2, E3) and, in some cases, sub-categories (e.g. E1.1) are defined for each of the three criteria as set out and defined in Annexes I and II.3 The first set of categories (the E axis) designates the degree of favourability of social and economic conditions in establishing the commercial viability of the project, including consideration of market prices and relevant legal, regulatory, environmental and contractual conditions. The second set (the F axis) designates the maturity of studies and commitments necessary to implement mining plans or development projects. "Perhaps .I should start this talk on Arsine poisoning, by giving a brief background and history of the Bralorne Mill.The present Bralorne company started milling operations in 1932, with amalgamation and flotation, and operated continuously until 19 61 . In 19 59, it was decided to change over to cyanidation, and to use double filtration rather than counter current. The cyanide portion of this new plant was completed and went on stream in August 1961 utilizing the grinding circuit of the old flotation plant. The new grinding circuit was completed and started operating December 15, 1961.The grinding circuit consists of a 7 1 x 101 Hardinge Rod Mill, and a 7 1 x 101 Hardinge Ball Mill. In series with the rod mill is a 16"" x 24"" Denver Duplex Jig, and two of these jigs are also in parallel with the ball mill. The rod mill product is classified by a Kreb cyclone, the oversize going to the ball mill. The ball mill is in closed circuit with this same cyclone. The jig products are amalgamated daily, and the amalgam barrel tails are returned to the ball mill for regrind. Arsenious oxide (As203) is one of the reagents used in amalgamation. Approximately 39 ozs. per day is used.The cyanide circuit consists of a 481 x 121 thickener, three 24' x 24' agitators, two 141 x 161 drum filters and a Merrill Crowe precipitation unit.The Krebcone overflow is thickened to 60 - 62% solids. Hydrated lime, along with a settling agent is added to the thickener. Some of the overflow water from the thickener is returned for use in the jigs. The balance of this overflow water goes to waste. To the thickened pulp entering No. 1 agitator, barren solution is added, along with sodium cyanide and hydrated lime. Cyanide strength is held at 0. 9 - 1. 0 lbs/ ton solution and lime at 0. 8 lbs/ ton solution. The lime content usually drops to 0. 5 lbs/ ton in No. 3 agitator. The two drum filters are in series and are washed with barren solution. The discharge of No. 3 agitator is fed to No. 1 filter and the discharge of No. 1 filter is repulped in barren solution and feeds No. 2 filter. No. 2 filter discharges to tails, The filtrate is clarified, deaerated and the gold precipitated. One hundred to two hundred tons of barren solution are bled to waste each day. The ore contains 1 % Arsenopyrite and 1. 5% Pyrite."

"The Sullivan Mine and Concentrator are owned and operated by Cominco Ltd. and are located in the Rocky Mountain Trench, in Kimberley, British Columbia.The Sullivan Concentrator commenced operation in 1923 at approximately 2,500 tons per day. The concentrator was enlarged in several stages and by 1945 was treating 8,500 tons of ore per day. In 1949, the capacity of the concentrator was expanded to 10,000 tons per day with the completion of the sink and float plant, the installation of the rod mill, an underground crushing plant and a 4-mile underground and surface electric railway from the underground crushing plant to the concentrator. Throughput now averages 7,000 tons per operating day, or 2,400,000 tons per year.The concentrator operates 7 days per week, 24 hours per day while the underground crushing station operates 5 days per week, 24 hours per day. The ore is essentially a replacement deposit in argillaceous quartzite of Precambrian age. The ore bodies are massive deposits consisting of fine grained mixtures of sulphides, sometimes interbanded with the country rock and varying widely in their content of lead, zinc, iron and silicates. The principal economic minerals are galena and marmatite (7 ZnS:FeS). Iron is mainly present as pyrrhotite, and to a much lesser extent as pyrite. The intimate association of these sulphides necessitated the development of a successful differential flotation process before the ore could be beneficiated profitably."

Recently, 3D printing technology in the manufacturing field is in the spotlight. In the construction industry, similar rapid prototyping technology that does not use conventional form can be applied to meet the demand on free formed structure that can provide aesthetic value and functionality. Conventional formwork can increase construction cost and period for various structure with complex shapes while it has numerous advantages such as high strength, convenience, accuracy and good quality of surface roughness. To meet the demand on free formed structure, automated freeform construction systems such as Contour Crafting and Concrete Printing have been developed with active collaboration between university and industry in USA and England. However, details on the system have not been fully released in public, so the possibility of its fusion and spin-off technology cannot be expected. In this paper, cost-effective solution for mechanical and control system for constructing a free curved structure without mold are described. As an appropriate material for the system, fiber reinforced mortar was selected by experiments on compressive strength, setting time and fluidity. After performing G-code simulation, transfer and extrusion experiments with the selected mortar mix were performed and the possibility of the development of automated freeform construction system was demonstrated. Based on this research results, it is required to keep the automated freeform construction system improve and extend it into the new application area in construction industry.

"Abstract - Reproducible analyses of representative samples for elements affected by the ‘nugget effect’ is vital in mineral exploration and reserve estimation. Unfortunately, a priori knowledge of what size of sample is representative from a mineral deposit or its dispersion train is commonly unavailable. Use of the simple ‘equant grain model’ and the NUGGET computer program facilitates determination of the sampling parameters that will produce appropriate samples for chemical analysis. Based on Poisson statistics, NUGGET can be used to determine: (1) the ‘effective grain size’ of nuggets in a suite of samples, (2) the level of representativity (precision) that samples with specific nugget grain sizes will exhibit, and (3) the sample size required to obtain a specific level of sample representativity. The program determines these sampling parameters for any element in any mineral, including solid solution minerals (e.g., Au, electrum, Pt-Fe alloy, diamond), and allows assumption of a variety of grain shapes (e.g., ellipsoids, cylinders, parallelepipeds, etc.). Furthermore, it outputs the effective number of nuggets expected in a sample of given size and the percentile confidence bounds on any element concentration affected by the nugget effect.Results from the software allow determination of effective sampling and analysis strategies that minimize the nugget effect in geochemical analysis/assaying used in mineral exploration and reserve estimation. This will not only improve confidence in the resulting exploration results or reserve estimate, but will facilitate estimation of the error associated with any subsequent interpretation or reserve figure."

"NI 43-101 is a rule that governs how issuers disclose scientific and technical information about mineral projects to the public in Canada. The disclosure standards apply to oral statements as well as written documents and websites. NI 43-101 does not apply to disclosure concerning petroleum, natural gas, bituminous sands or shales, groundwater, or coal be methane. NI 43-101 first came into force on Feb. 1, 2001 and was revised in December 30, 2005. "Flotation circuits are typically controlled using on-line elemental assays obtained from the slurry lines. In base metal applications, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzers are the most common instruments for elemental analysis of the slurries. Eagle Mine has been utilizing a Courier XRF Analyzer since 2014. Typically, in XRF analysis, the sampling rate is 10-25 minutes which is good enough for manual process control. In 2018, Eagle Mine upgraded the Courier XRF analyzer with the Rapid Measurement module that is based on reflectance spectroscopy. This option reduces the sampling rate to 10-15 seconds, while maintaining the superior accuracy of the XRF analyzer. This paper presents the results from implementation of Rapid Measurement at Eagle Mine.INTRODUCTION Eagle mine is an underground mine producing nickel and copper concentrates. Eagle Mine is owned by Lundin mining and located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, USA. The Humboldt Mill, previously an iron ore processing facility, was refurbished in 2014 and is used to process the ore and produce separate nickel and copper concentrates. Approximately 2,000 metric tonnes of ore is milled per day. Ore is processed using a conventional crushing followed by single stage ball mill and flotation. Nickel and copper concentrate are transported to facilities in North America via rail car. A bulk copper-nickel concentrate is produced by separating the copper and nickel minerals from gangue material by flotation. The copper-nickel bulk concentrate is reground, followed by one stage of cleaning to reject further gangue minerals. The bulk cleaner concentrate is then subjected to a final flotation stage where the copper and nickel minerals are separated from one another through the addition of lime. Final concentrate grades are 14% Ni and 2% Cu in the nickel concentrate and 31% Cu and 0.8% Ni in copper concentrate."

"Norm calculation procedures originally designed principally for igneous rocks are very rigid in their application and, in general, do not utilize important alteration minerals. For instance, volatile components are essential constituents of many metasomatic rocks but either are not used or are not used effectively in determining normative minerals by the CIPW norm or Niggli-Barth norm procedures. Our approach to determining norms for metasomatic rocks allots all major, minor and volatile constituents to a set of standard normative minerals which are commonly observed as products of hydrothermal alteration. A useful procedure is to have a metasomatic norm approximate the mode as closely as possible. Petrographic information helps to provide the necessary mineralogical constraints. With the recognition of an immobile component and knowledge of sampling and analytical errors in lithogeo chemical data, it is possible to recast norms into amounts of alteration minerals relative to a given amount (100 grams) of parent rock. Combining these results with the calculations of absolute loss or gain of individual chemical constituents and considering errors (e) for an appropriate confidence level, an overall (net) material exchange equation can be presented as follows:<equation>where all items have extensive units (e.g., grams). The model includes the initial and final mineralogy of rocks (evident in the field) as well as gains and losses of specific elements. Only those constituents whose calculated losses and gains are significantly different from zero are retained in the above model, and only the normative minerals with abundances significantly different from zero are included in the model (equation). One advantage of the chemico-mineralogic model is that parent rock and product are modeled in mineralogical terms that are familiar to and easily usable by exploration geologists."

"Since all gold mills must sooner or later be cleaned up for permanent shutdown it was felt that a record of what was done at one mill might be of some help to those who will have to do the same job in the future,In cleaning up the mill of Delnite Mines Limited, I had an advantage that most mill superintendents will not have in that I started up the mill and was there until it was shut down, It was also known for two years approximately when the shutdown would be and for a year almost the exact time. This, of course, made careful planning possible and enabled me to get advance information that wouldn't have been available had the shutdown come unexpectedly,Early in 1964 calculation of ore reserves and the known number of working places available indicated that the mine would run out of ore sometime in August or September but not later than October, The time of course would vary with the number of competent miners that could be retained until the shutdown. Since the mining method used exclusively on the ore then remaining was cut and fill, it was known that once mining operations ceased it would require at most two days to crush and grind the last of the ore.In March 1 964 I took samples of the concrete floor under the precipitation presses, in the flux room and furnace room of the refinery and from the assays obtained proved that there would be no profit in breaking up the concrete to recover the gold from it, Samples taken from the top half inch of the concrete floors assayed less than 0, 10 oz per ton,"
