El presente trabajo describe el método de mecanización del sublevel caving realizado en la mina Yauricocha, donde se aplica a cuerpos que varían de de pequeños a medianos, irregulares o angostos a través del uso de Scoops. Así también el método puede ser usado en roca competente, así como en cuerpos que ya han sido parcialmente explotados como es el caso del cuerpo Cuye. Finalmente no es requisito fundamental que el mineral sea de resistencia muy mala, ya que al descubrir una superficie relativamente grande a través de varios bolsillos, el mineral cae con facilidad debido a la presión del techo aún sin usar explosivos.

The Ministry of Commerce has been carrying out an evaluation of the resources of the Northwest Nelson region. In part this was to revisit the issues covered in the earlier proposal to close part of Northwest Nelson to mining under section 24 of the Mining Act (1971) initiated in 1990. In addition, the option of using GIS to integrate a variety of spatial data sets to aid policy formulation could be tested. The Northwest Nelson assessment would be a useful trial. The subsequent national park proposal provided a major impetus to the project and resulted in the scope of the study being broadened to include all energy and minerals resources.

THE treatment by chlorination of the Mount Morgan Gold Mining Company's ores was first accomplished, early in 1886, by a works having a capacity of 25,000 tons per annum. Shortly afterwards another works was established, capable of dealing with 50,000 tons per annum. The extraction of gold was originally successful and satisfactory, but running expenses were high, averaging £2 19s. 6d. per ton of ore treated. These works were believed to be the largest chlorination pJants in the world at that time. As might have been expected, the mechanical details and chemical process had not been perfected, and, moreover, both works were hurriedly built, and operating expenses were not then considered of such prime importance, as the ore at that time was of very high grade the large quantities of low grade ore since dealt with not being then considered, since the bulk of it was not even known to be in existence.These two works consisted of lock-breakers, high speed rolls, screens, elevators, &c., for crushing; a large number of small handrabbled reverberatory furnaces for roasting; one-ton chlorination barrels and three-ton leaching vats for chlorination.

Knowledge of true block grades is obtained from a mathematical model of an orebody, simulated with sample grades normally distributed and spatially correlated according io a spherical semi-variogram model.The superiority of kriging to the polygonal method of estimation is demonstrated on this modelled deposit by comparing the true values with the kriged and polygonal estimates obtained from sampling the deposit. Finally, selection of blocks of the deposit on the basis of the estimated values, shows that if kriging is used, what is predicted is largely mined, whilst if the polygonal method is used large biases can occur depending on the position of the cut-off grade.

WHAT is a die-casting and what is the die-casting industry? From the literal translation of the words "die" and "casting"' one concludes that a die-casting is a casting made in a die. The casting may be of any metal or alloy or, for that matter, may be of some nonmetallic material capable of being cast, such as plaster of paris or glass. The die may be of any material that will take successive casts so it need not necessarily be metallic in nature. The term "die-casting," therefore, is indeed broad, though in practical usage it has come to mean the casting of metals and their alloys in metallic molds or dies. Even this limitation of the term leaves -a broad field, for castings may be made in a number of different ways. For example, the molten metal may be allowed to run into the die by gravity it may be sucked into the cavity of the die, it may be forced to take the contour of the cavity in the die by centrifiugal force, or it may be forced into the cavity under hydrostatic pressure. Anhydrous neodymium trichlorids (NdCl3), containing ~1 weight percent neodymium oxychloride (NdOCI) was prepared by the dehydration of neodymium trichioride hexahydrate (NdC13.6H2O). Dehydration of the hexahydrate was conducted in three steps. First, the hexahydrate was slowly heated in air to about 250 °C until all the low temperature water of crystallization was removed. In the second stop, the neodymium hydroxychloride (Nd(OH)2C1) fanned in the first step was decomposed by heating under argon to 430 ° C. Finally the salt was ground and then treated with HCl gas at 330 °C until practically all of the NdOCl was converted to NdCl3.

Selenium might be described as a paradoxical element, being either a metal or a nonmetal, a conductor or nonconductor, amorphous or crystalline, colorant or decolorant, and a hydrogenator or dehydrogenator. Selenium was discovered in 1817 by the Swedish chemist, Berzelius, while studying flue dust from the lead chambers of the sulfuric acid works at Gripsholm, Sweden, The ordinary stable form of selenium is a crystalline, grayish solid with semi-metallic luster. It melts at 217° C., boils at 684.8° C., and has a density of 4.79.

The computer assisted generation of geological models to represent the geometry of, and grade distribution within, orebodies is a rapidly growing area of the geological profession. Such models are increasingly used as a necessary starting point in determining the mineability of mineral deposits in terms of practical mine design and economic considerations. The transition from traditional techniques such as field or underground mapping and the manual calculation of grade and tonnage estimates, as well as related activities such as the interpolation of cross-sections, the use of stereographic projections, core logging and hand contouring, to computerized applications, is by no means complete. In fact, many geological professionals deliberately avoid the use of computer simulations based on the perception that the resulting models are simplistic and that their construction is not founded on sound geological principles. The purpose of this paper is to assess current thinking on this topic by considering; (a) an overview of advances in the drafting of geological maps, (b) the theoretical basis for multi-dimensional geological modelling, (c) the case for combining traditional and modern techniques, and (d) the benefits to the mining value chain.

"INTRODUCTION AND SUMMARYDuring the latter part of 1943 a magnetometric survey was conducted by the Geophysical Division of the Bureau of Mines at the mine, Putnam County, N. Y., in an endeavor to locate a segment of the body that reports state was cut off by a fault. The Mahepac mine was abandoned about 1895 after producing nearly 1,000,000 tons of high-grade magetite iron ore. The results of the investigation indicate the termination of the ore body by ""pinching"" or a displacement of such magnitude as to place any extension at a considerable distance the original ore body. This report describes the work done on the project and presents the data obtained. ACKNOWLEDGMENTSThe Bureau of Mines has been investigating deposits of critical and essential minerals in the United States and Alaska since 1939. The Mahopac mine was visited by W.T. Millar, an engineer of the Bureau of Mines, on June 5, 1943, accompanied by Dr. William Agar of the Federal Survey, and again on July 29, 1943, accompanied by Dr. A. F. Buddington and H.F. An extensive suite of elements are routinely assayed on all resource drill core samples to assist in deposit scale resource definition, local mine scale delineation of ore zones, and ore characterisation for the planning and scheduling of mining and processing of ores at Olympic Dam. This paper discusses a deposit scale geochemical relation that can be used by mine geologists to find more high-grade ore at the local mine area scale at Olympic Dam.A 3D grade shell representing 0.8 per cent Cu was created for a mine area using drill hole assay data. This defined the geometry of the ore zone. The Cu-grade shell was then overlain onto the existing resource block model to evaluate the relationships between the Cu-grade shell, copper and other elements. The strongest correlation was between copper and manganese. The block model showed a dramatic decrease in the concentration of manganese just below the below the Cu-grade shell.Several drill holes that intersected the Cu-grade shell were selected to evaluate the copper manganese relation at the drill hole scale. As expected, the individual drill holes displayed a strong inverse relation between copper and manganese. A geochemical footwall was then modelled representing 0.1 wt per cent Mn. Using both the Cu– and Mn-grade shells, several drill holes were designed/drilled and all hit high-grade copper.For the vast majority of the deposit the inverse relation between copper and manganese is valid; however, in areas with intense chlorite alteration (related to amounts of mafic to ultramafic rocks) this relation is not as strong, due to increased manganese in the rock mass. Even though using the copper manganese relation as a drill targeting method was not always as reliable in a few small areas of the deposit, it demonstrates the value of using existing assay data integrated with the resource block model to discover local mine scale geochemical relationships which can be used to more effectively design drill holes to discover high-grade ore at Olympic Dam.CITATION:Griffith, J and Ehrig, K, 2017. The world-class Waihi (>6.6 Moz Au, >41.8 Moz Ag) and adjacent Favona (>0.5 Moz Au) deposits are within a single volcanic-hosted epithermal Au-Ag district located in the southern Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand. Gold and silver mineralised quartz veins at both deposits are hosted in porphyritic andesite flows of the Waipupu Formation. Both deposits have veins surrounded by intense widespread hydrothermal alteration that is characterised by the assemblage of quartz, pyrite, adularia, illite or interstratified illite-smectite, plus less common chlorite and albite, which is locally overprinted by minor calcite or rare kaolinite. Quantitative mass transfer calculations using Gresen's general metasomatic equation indicate that hydrothermally altered andesite at both deposits is enriched in silicon, potassium, rubidium, barium, sulphur, gold, arsenic and antimony, whereas sodium, strontium and calcium are mostly lost. Iron and magnesium show mixed gain and loss. Element gain or loss can be directly related to the prevailing alteration mineralogy. Addition of potassium, rubidium and barium coupled with the concomitant loss of sodium, strontium and calcium in intensely altered wall rocks corresponds to the replacement of plagioclase by adularia or illite. Partial retention of sodium and calcium reflects the presence of hydrothermal albite and calcite, respectively. Mass balance calculations show distinct element gain and loss that can be related to the intensity and type of alteration mineralogy. However, because most rocks are intensely altered and the progression into less altered peripheral rocks is not observed in this study, the lateral extent of elements gain or loss is unconstrained with anomalies extending at least 200 to 300 m away from major veins.

"The Glencore Raglan mine Concentrator, located in Quebec’s Nunavik region, has been in operation since 1997. The nickel metallurgical plant was originally designed to process 100 tonnes per hour of ore to produce 130 000 tonnes of nickel concentrate per year at 16% Ni. The increased grinding capacity and the discovery of rich ore bodies have increased the annual production to more than 190 000 tonnes of concentrate at 19% Ni. In 2014, the Metallurgical group, with support from BBA, implemented an expert control system on the flotation circuit. This project was initiated to cope with the high variability of the concentrator’s feed. Increasing the plant recovery and final concentrate grade were also important project objectives. The implementation of the expert system ensures better control of concentrate inventory while maintaining maximum plant throughput. This paper describes the successful implementation of the new control system, the control technology selection and the flotation circuit optimization. It will also discuss the performances obtained with this new approach and the improved process stability.IntroductionThe Raglan Mine is located in Northern Quebec along the 62th parallel. A pilot plant was constructed and operated to investigate the column flotation of 20 x 200 mesh North Carolina phosphate ore, using high throughput, high solids operating conditions developed at the NCSU Minerals Research Laboratory. Flotation was performed at 45% solids in a 9.5 cm (3.75 in.) diameter by 2.26 m (7.4 ft.) tall column at throughputs of 19.1 t/hr/m2 (2.0 stph/ft2) and 31.7 t/hr/m2 (3.3 stph/ft2). Recoveries in excess of 98% of the phosphate value were obtained at the lower throughput -- while obtaining concentrate grades containing over 28% P205 (61.2% BPL) at that recovery. Recoveries of about 95% of the phosphate value were obtained at the higher throughput, while making a concentrate averaging 27.6% P205 (60.3% BPL). In addition, a better understanding of the variables governing the column flotation of coarse nonmetallic minerals was gained. Variables examined included superficial air velocity, throughput (superficial feed velocity), frother type, frother dosage, and bias rate.

Cato Ridge Alloys (CRA) is a joint venture company between Assmang of South Africa, Mizushima Ferro Alloy Company (MZK) and Sumitomo Corporation from Japan. Negotiations for the formation of the company started in 1992 with the joint venture agreement signed on the 19th September 1996. MZK was to supply the technical know how for the production of Medium and Low Carbon FeMn while Assmang was to manage the day to day activities of the company. Sumitomo Corporation was to act as facilitator between Assmang and MZK and, together with Ore and Metal are responsible for the marketing of the refined products. The conceptual design of the plant started in December 1996 and the first charge of molten high carbon ferromanganese metal was charged on the 19th January 1998. Problems experienced during the initial startup period were addressed resulting in substantial operational improvements. A build-up in the stock of fine metal was addressed through the development of a process to remelt the fine metal, the development of a market for fine metal and the upgrading of the crushing and screening plant to reduce the generation of fine metal. The mass yield from High Carbon Ferromanganese to Refined Ferromanganese was increased through the implementation of statistical process control, changes to the blowing patterns and the development of a sampling device for taking samples during the process. Converter refractory consumption was reduced. This was achieved on the converter by improving the cooling of the converters with the installation of cooling fans and cooling fins. The heating schedule of the converters was changed for improved refractory life. Production schedules were modified to allow cooling of the refractory between low carbon erromanganese charges. Additional changes made to improve operations were: ? Changing from mehanite casting trays to metal fines beds. ? Installation of sonic horns in the baghouse to prevent the bridging of dust. ? Improved welding on the lance tips.

On the basis of the Law on Financing Hard Coal Mining dated 28 December 2007, the subsidized German hard coal mining industry will be shut down to the end of the year 2018 in a socially acceptable manner; in 2012 this decision will be reassessed. Even after the abandonment of all mining activities subsequent burdens are inevitable. In this paper, the possible long-term effects resulting from a mining industry history, which is spanning more than 200 years, and their possible consequences are pointed out, in particular in connection with the abandonment of mine water drainage measures which is economically meaningful in the long term. According to the decision situation as it presents itself today, this point in time will be far beyond 2018. In preparation for this, an action framework is to be developed in areas possibly affected.

Rock engineering has now been practised as a discipline for about50 years, and many sophisticated methods of analysis for use in rock engineering design have been developed. However, analysis is only a tool for use in engineering design, and rock masses are often so complex that realistic modelling of them, even with sophisticated methods of analysis, is impossible. At the other end of the scale, rock mass classification methods have been developed to quantify the rock mass. These ?numbers? are now widely used for assessment of stability of underground and surface excavations in rock, for the determination of rock support requirements, and for the estimation of rock mass strength and deformation properties. In considering these areas, the two concepts?design, and prediction of behaviour?will be dealt with. The discussion will be introduced by a consideration of the characteristics of the rock mass, which will highlight the variability in its properties and hence the uncertainty in the behavioural parameters. Examples of real projects will be used to illustrate the discussion.

Rock reinforcement systems are used in open pit and underground mines to stabilize the rock mass in-situ and provide safe working conditions. Significant progress has been made to date in the design and implementation of rock reinforcement systems to accommodate bad rock conditions and larger excavations. However, the rationale for the design of rock reinforcement systems remains essentially the same and can be categorized into three groups, namely 1. to create a beam of competent rock in stratified formations, 2. to resist sliding motion in jointed rock, 3. to passively support the superincumbent loads in highly stressed ground. Case histories of the rock reinforcement sys¬tems that illustrate these design approaches will be presented in this paper.

In this paper, the nonlinear finite element analysis is used to study the support system of a tunnel which is designed to pass through deep-embeded stratum. The rock mass is rather intact, though a section of tunnel will pass through the weak belt. Under the influence of the high ground stress, the condition of stability and the form of support become complicate. This paper, talcing into account the nonlinear properties of rock mass and the Interaction between rock, and support, makes a comparison between the two kinds of soft and rigid support systems, and analysed the changes of their bearing forces.
