The paper presents the modeling and simulation experience in field of research into the mineral row material separation. Features of the subject domain generate a need of different approaches using for modeling and simulation. The general scheme of separation modeling process and some examples of developed simulators are presented. Due to different features and standards of knowledge, different formal models should be used to describe and analyze separation processes in the frame of general scheme. The main types of simulators are modeling tools based on statistical, analytical or expert (logical) methods. Advantages and disadvantages of each method above are mentioned in the paper. Based on the studies in the field considered, an aggregated mathematical model of a separation process has been generated. The aggregated model is presented by two combined equations. The actual apparatus model is formed by substitution of the particular functional expressions of the forces acting in the apparatus into the aggregated model. The developed simulation tools are based on integration of limited experimental data and on ex-pert knowledge available on separation processes. Simulation does not allow producing an optimal, in terms of mathematics, solution. But it gives an opportunity to produce and compare quite adequate solution variants in real time. The results obtained are the theoretical and methodological base for integrated information technologies to support studies in the field of mineral processing.

In the present work, the flotation behaviours of zircon, rutile and ilmenite using sodium oleate as collector in absence and presence of depressants were thoroughly investigated. The maximum in the flotation recovery of any of the above minerals falls within similar pH ranges. A range of inorganic and polymer depressants were examined in order to improve the separation of zircon from rutile and ilmenite. Optimum values of conditioning pH and depressant concentration to achieve maximum recovery and best selective floatability of zircon were obtained. Selective flotation of zircon from Ti-bearing minerals was anticipated from single mineral experiments under different pH values, depressant and collector conditions.

The wet preconcentration of haematite, comminuted by high-pressure grinding roller was studied, using the cylindrical ferromagnetic medium. The effects of various factors including rod diameter, rod gap and background magnetic field intensity (BMFI) on the performances of preconcentration for different size fractions and the force analysis of single mineral particles with different diameter in the separation zone were emphatically investigated. The results showed that as the rod diameter increased, the rod gap decreased, and the BMFI increased the tailings grade and the tailings yield reduced while the concentrates recovery raised that was regardless of variations in feed size distribution. For the -3.2+0.18mm size fraction preconcentration, the magnetic medium with a rod diameter of 4 mm and a rod gap of 7 mm at BMFI of 454kA/m is used to get a higher performance. For -0.18mm size fraction preconcentration, the magnetic medium with a rod diameter of 4 mm and a rod gap of 4 mm at BMFI of 263kA/m is used to get a higher performance. After the classifying preconcentration, at the optimum condition, the overall concentrate grade increases by 9.56 percentage points and the concentrate recovery is up to the 82.67% with a tailing grade of 10.68% and a tailing yield of 40.31%. The magnetic force, exerted on weekly magnetic minerals was proportional, to the specific susceptibility and square of BMFI. For the same BMFI, the magnetic capturing force on coarse particles increased, and that on fine particles decreased with the increasing of rod diameter. For the lean locked-particles, considering the gravity and viscous resistance of particles, rods with a big diameter were beneficial to the capture of coarse particles and had no influence on the capture of fine particles, while rods with a small diameter were good for the capture of fine particles and not suitable for the capture of coarse particles of lean locked-particles. "Zinc dust is used for the removal of primary impurities by cementation from the zinc sulphate electrolyte before electrowinning of zinc. However, the industrial zinc electrowinning plants has been reported that the zinc dust consumption is in large excess than the stoichiometric requirement. In the present investigation, morphology of the zinc dust has been altered by ball milling and utilized for the cementation of cadmium, which is one of the major impurity and compared the change in the rate of cementation with original zinc dust. Initially, 325 mesh size zinc dust was used for the optimization of the excess quantity of zinc dust to be used at a temperature of 50 °C. The chemical analysis of zinc dust before and after ball milling and morphology were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the solution was characterized by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The rate of cementation increased with increase in ball milling time. The residual precipitate obtained after filtration was also characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis. Finally experiments were conducted to study the effect of temperature and kinetics of cadmium cementation using first order reaction kinetics. Based on the integral method, the calculated activation energy for the cadmium cementation with 4-hours ball milled zinc dust was found to be 3.39 KJ/mole. INTRODUCTION Primary production of zinc in the world is carried out by hydrometallurgical route. The primary impurities in the neutralized zinc sulphate solution that cause negative effect on electrowinning are copper, cadmium, cobalt, and nickel. Copper diminishes the current efficiency and cadmium contaminates the cathode zinc (Morgan, 1977) while electro winning. Nickel and cobalt lead to perforation in the zinc deposit and prevents the electro winning process (Abrasheva et al, 1984). Due to higher electro positivity of these metal impurities than zinc, they can co-deposit with cathode zinc at the time of electrolysis. In addition to that, some possible impurities (including cobalt) in the electrolysis may lower the hydrogen overvoltage, allowing deposition of hydrogen at cathode resulting in fall of current efficiency. The deposition of zinc on the cathode is possible only at higher hydrogen overvoltage which is practicable in the absence of such impurities (Raghavan et al., 1999). Cementation is one of the prominent purification technique, and in that less reactive metal can be replaced by highly reactive metal by allowing them into precipitation. Cementation of cadmium from zinc sulphate electrolyte is being done by the addition of zinc dust."

The Bulgarian deposits of quartz-kaolin raw materials are localized in the NE Bulgaria. For many years, the quartz-kaolin sand separation has been performing by water washing technology. After wet separation the raw material yields two products ? washed kaolin (different grades) and quartz sand (different grades). Research and development program has started to improve the quartz-kaolin sand separation. The program has undertaken an increasing of processing capacity, to decrease the losses in the tailings and to provide production of new quartz sand grades. The kaolin-silica raw materials from Vetovo open mine and the technological tailings from Vetovo processing plant were characterized. It was established that there are a lot of losses of quartz in final tailings. New approach on kaolin-silica raw material separation was tested in laboratory scale. The test work was performed on Derrick Stacksizer screening machines. The results of laboratory experiment show that there are possibilities to increase the quartz sand recovery and to start the production new grade sand. The full-scale pilot test was performed including the following units: two Derrick Stacksizer screening machines equipped with 0.430 mm and 0.150 mm opening Derrick Urethane Panel, respectively; Flat bottom DN 500 Hydrocyclone and DN 100 Hydrocyclon. The pilot test data clearly demonstrate that the Derrick Stacksizer screening machines are suitable for Bulgarian silica-kaolin raw material. Based on the test data a new quartz-kaolin separation technology was developed. The new technology was introduced in Vetovo processing plant increasing processing capacity and decreasing the losses of quartz in final tailings. Additionally the production of silica sand grade PK 0.16 is increased and starts the production a new grade PK 0.10.

The ever increasing demand for energy and the progressive depletion of crude oil resources, have renewed interest in oil shale as an alternative fuel resource. Weathered oil shale samples were assembled from El-Nakheil phosphate mine in Quseir area, Eastern desert, Egypt. The oil shale samples were prepared and analyzed by XRD (X-ray diffraction), XRF (X-ray fluorescence spectrometry), and optical microscopic techniques. Rock-Eval pyrolysis and total organic carbon were used to study shale hydrocarbon potential. A leaching procedure using inorganic and organic acids was used to selectively dissolve the oil shale associated ash forming minerals. XRD results showed that calcite is the dominant carbonate mineral, whereas primary silicate minerals are quartz and montmorillonite. SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) observations indicated that the organic matter is dispersed throughout the rock matrix. The acid soluble fraction upon leaching was determined to be 37.59 and 42.74 wt% by using 5% HCl and 10% HCl, respectively. The TOC was increased from 20.78 to 29.88 and 34.09 wt% by using 5% HCl and 10% HCl, respectively. "The Upper Group 2 (UG2) reef in the Bushveld Complex in South Africa hosts an estimated 40% of the world’s Platinum Group Metal (PGM) resources. The processing of this ore via flotation poses two particular challenges: limiting the levels of chromite in the concentrate to reduce downstream smelting problems, and enhancing the recovery of ultrafine (typically -10 micron), liberated PGMs. Conventional ways of suppressing the entrained chromite, such as froth washing, is not effective in PGM operations, which are dominated by mechanical cells. The recovery of fine particles is hampered by low collision efficiencies with air bubbles, as well as oxidised surface layers especially in tailings operations. This paper documents the results of laboratory tests on a run-of-mine PGM UG2 ore, investigating the application of a pneumo-mechanical column (PMC) and its effect on PGM flotation and its selectivity with regard to chromite. A key feature of the device is the stage-wise release of aerated slurry from an agitated downcomer, thus creating conditions where the superficial velocity profiles of air and slurry change axially within the separation zone. This aids segregation of the silicates and chromite-rich fractions in the separation zone, concentrating the latter towards the bottom of the column and minimising its entrainment into the concentrate. Comparison of the performance of the PMC to that of mechanical laboratory cells under equivalent operating conditions showed improved PGM flotation kinetics and recovery. This was accompanied by a decrease in gangue recovery compared to the mechanical cells by more than 40%, thus doubling the final rougher concentrate grade from 50 to 100 g/t. Significantly, whilst the overall Cr2O3 recovery was reduced by more than 60%, the selectivity (PGM recovery vs Cr2O3 grade in the concentrate) was doubled.INTRODUCTIONThe Bushveld complex in the northern part of South Africa hosts the world’s largest reserves of Platinum Group Metals (PGMs), representing approximately 40% of the total PGE. It is characterised by three main PGM bearing reefs, namely Merensky, Upper Group 2 (UG2) and the Platreef. The Merensky and Platreef are dominated by silicates in the form of pyroxenites, and carry economically recoverable amounts of copper and nickel, in the form of chalcopyrite and pentlandite. The UG2 on the other hand is a chromitite ore with chromite as (ideally, FeO.Cr2O3) the most abundant gangue, often constituting more than 70% by mass with a PGM grade of around 4.5 g/t. Other key gangue minerals are pyroxene, feldspar and talc. The PGEs occur in a wide variety of minerals, with platinum and palladium sulphides typically accounting for about half of the total. Base metal sulphides such as chalcopyrite, pentlandite and pyrrhotite occur in only very minor amounts, accounting mostly for less than 0.1% by mass."

Electrochemical behaviors of synthetic and natural enargite in buffer solutions have been investigated using open circuit potential, stationary polarization and cyclic voltammetry as functions of solution pH, scan direction, scan range, scan rate and dissolved O2. The results indicate that the electrochemical behaviors of synthetic and natural enargite are very similar; solution pH, scan direction, scan range and scan rate have remarkable effects on the electrochemical behavior of enargite while dissolved O2 has little effect on the electrochemical behavior of enargite. The potential range in which enargite possesses the ability of passivation is from ?0.9 V to + 0.83 V vs. SCE. Enargite is most stable in neutral and alkaline solution around potential ?0.2 V vs. SCE. The main oxidation products on enargite surface in alkaline solution are Cu(OH)2 while the potential imposed on it is within the range of ?0.2 V to 0.33 V vs. SCE and Cu(OH)2 + S0while the potential applied is higher than 0.52 V vs. SCE.

In this study, a hydrometallurgical treatment involving solvent extraction of zinc using D2EHPA (di-2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid) has been investigated to recover zinc from an industrial zinc leach residue. The residue was leached with sulfuric acid producing leach liquor which was subjected to solvent extraction for enrichment of zinc and removal of impurities. Operating variables for the zinc extraction process, such as pH of the mixed solution (0.5~5.0), concentration of D2EHPA (5%~40%, w/w), temperature (25~60°?C), A/O volumetric phase ratio (1/2~4/1), concentration of tri-butyl phosphate (TBP) as modifier (3%~7%, w/w), concentration of NaR2RSOR4R in aqueous phase (0.05M, 0.1M, 0.2M) were also studied. Practically all zinc was extracted from the aqueous solution at pH 2.5 with 20% w/w D2EHPA in kerosene. At this operating condition, zinc could be extracted at one theoretical stage at A/O phase ratio of 1/1, as calculated by the McCabe-Thiele method.

Copper concentrate containing complex sulphides of Cu-Ni with 14.13% Cu and 10.04% Ni besides impurities such as 0.33% Co and 0.71% Mo, is not acceptable to the copper smelters due to the smelting problems. Selective bioleaching of nickel from the concentrate can be considered an an option to make it suitable for copper smelter. Effect of elemental sulphur and pyrite on the bioleaching of Ni and Co has been investigated using a mixed culture of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans (A.f.) and Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans (A.t.). Parameters such as pH, temperature, particles, size etc. were optimised to understand the role of additives in the bioleaching. With 2% S at 308K, 2.0 pH, 5% pulp density and 200µm size particles while shaking at 100 rpm, 79% Ni, 41% Co and 5% Cu were bioleached as compared to the leaching of 81% Ni and 45% Co in presence of 10 wt% pyrite in 60 days; 27% Ni, 24% Co and 4% Cu were recovered in sterile experiment. The selective dissolution of nickel and cobalt as compared to copper may be explained by galvanic interaction between chalcopyrite: pentlandite / pyrrhotite. Bioleaching was facilitated by strong oxidizing conditions due to higher Fe3+/Fe2+ ratio/redox potential (ESCE) as a result of improved interaction of minerals through biooxidation of sulphur and accelerated galvanic interaction by pyrite. The mechanism of selective leaching of Ni and Co was established by XRD phase identification.

This paper is a fundamental study of bubble-particle collision efficiency in turbulent flows. A CFD-based microscale scheme for the prediction of turbulent bubble-particle collision efficiency in a 3D isotropic turbulent flow is developed, and in this way, turbulence effects on particle-bubble collision efficiency are taken into account for the first time. By comparing the computed results with experimental data from the literature, the CFD simulation is shown to correctly predict the bubble-particle collision efficiency in a quiescent environment. The CFD method was then applied to the investigation of bubble-particle collision efficiency in a turbulent flow, and the simulation results are shown to be qualitatively consistent with the real observations. The predicted collision efficiency can be used in a multiscale modelling scheme, which would account for all control variables in a flotation cell, such as impeller structure and tip speed, air nozzle structure and air flow rate This study indicates how microscale simulations of bubble and particle behaviours, coupled to macroscale CFD simulations of flotation cells, can provide a powerful tool predicting the flotation rate in a real flotation cell.

A new short combined flow sheet including high intensity magnetic separation and flotation for a rare earth ore in Maoniuping deposit, China has been investigated. Massive conclusive results demonstrate, that it is critical to separate the ore by high intensity magnetic separation prior to flotation for tons of slimes and nonmagnetic gangue existing. The vital technological parameters affecting flotation have been studied in detail. Modified hydroxamic acid is an efficient collector for bastnasite flotation because of its high selectivity. Flotation results also indicate high temperature that play an unfavourable role on the recovery as well as the grade of bastnasite concentrate, when the rare earth ore is floated with modified hydroxamic acid and sodium silicate depressant. Bastnasite concentrates, averaging over 65 percent REO at an overall recovery of 82-84% is achieved by the new beneficiation technology. In mineral processing, the settling of mineral particles in water, the flow of ore pulp, the dewatering and filtering of concentrates and so on, are related to the pulp viscosity. While the interaction between mineral particle surface and water affects directly the pulp viscosity. Therefore, it is of great value to the development of mineral processing theory to research the effect of mineral particle surface on the water viscosity in boundary layer. In micro-fluid, the effect of mineral particle surface on the water molecules in boundary layer can not be ignored. The water viscosity in boundary layer and the effect of the nature of mineral particle solid surface on the viscosity are analysed based on the deduction of attraction potential energy formula of mineral particle surface to the water molecules in boundary layer. The results show that the attraction potential energy of mineral particle surface to the water molecules in boundary layer is determined by the properties of solid molecules and fluid molecules and varies inversely as the third power of the distance from mineral particle surface. The water viscosity in boundary layer consists of the viscosity of free water and the additional viscosity resulting from the attraction of mineral particle surface. The increment of the viscosity caused by the attraction of mineral surface is µs. This additional viscosity is also inverse ratio to the third power of the distance from mineral particle surface. The greater the dipole moment, the polarizability and the ionization energy of mineral particle solid surface molecules are, the higher the attraction potential energy of mineral particle surface to the water molecules and the water viscosity in boundary layer are. The thicker stationary water boundary layer is d0. The higher the µs is, in other words, the greater the attraction of solid surface to water molecules is, the thicker the stationary water boundary layer becomes when free water viscosity is constant.

"Triboelectric separation of ilmenite ore based on the tribocharge differences between ilmenite and gangue minerals was conducted in this study. Triboelectric characteristics of ilmenite and its associated minerals were studied using polyvinyl chloride (PVC), pentatricopeptide repeats (PPR), copper, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), stainless steel (SS), teflon and quartz glass (QG) tribochargers in lab triboelectric unit. Results demonstrated that the ilmenite particles tribocharged positively while gangue minerals tribocharged negatively using PVC as tribocharger. The particle size also has a significant effect on tribocharge, and the -0.125+0.074 mm is the optimal size fraction of triboelectric separation. Charge-mass ratios of minerals increase with the increases of tribocharging length, but the increasing rate gradually reduce. At 1.5 m tribocharging length, charge-mass ratios of ilmenite, quartz, feldspar and mica are up to 6.07 nC/g, -6.05 nC/g, -4.30 nC/g and -4.56 nC/g, respectively. Based on the triboelectric characteristics of each mineral, triboelectric separation of ilmenite was conducted, and the grade of ilmenite ore increased from 15.47% to 28.40%. INTRODUCTION As a transition metal titanium plays an irreplaceable role in medical, aerospace and materials due to its light weight, high strength and corrosion resistance. Pure titanium dioxide is an excellent white pigment and is widely applied in industries of paint and textile. Ilmenite is the main raw material for titanium industry. For the beneficiation of ilmenite, series methods have been proposed, such as the application of dry magnetic and wet gravity separations to separate the ilmenite from the zircon and rutile. Electrostatic separation is extensively used in the beneficiation of heavy mineral sands for the recovery of rutile, zircon and ilmenite while flotation is used to separate fine ilmenite (Mehdilo et al., 2014; Fan et al., 2014). Compared with flotation and gravity separation, electrostatic separation does not consume water, and native properties of materials will not be changed and energy consumption will be reduced (Wang et al., 2014). Thus, the wide application of electrostatic separation and other dry separation methods is a trend in separation and purification industry, especially in water-scarce areas."

A moderate thermophilic microorganisms, has been isolated (45?) from a typical sulphide mine in the region of Mo Jiang located in the southwest of China. The culture has been used to extract copper from chalcopyrite concentrates obtained from De Xing copper mine. The majority of experiments were carried out in 300mL Erlenmeyer flasks containing 150mL volumes of mineral suspension. Effects of some variable parameters such as solids concentration, pH and the concentrations of inorganic nutrients on the bioleaching of chalcopyrite obtained from De Xing copper mine were investigated. For a given concentrate the most important factor affecting the fractional copper extraction was the size of the mineral particles. The overall rate of leaching was found to be limited by the area of mineral surface. The attack started in cracks and genetic defects and finally reached the whole chalcopyrite surface. As a consequence of this, the ore showed strongly cracks. The additive of ferrous sulfate increases the bacteria activity, but did not improve chalcopyrite bioleaching. The results indicate that the nature and relative proportions of the various minerals present have been shown to be important factors.

Microorganisms in AMD (Acid Mine Drainage) were enriched in 9K culture medium. The enrichment was applied to leach copper pyrite after the microbial community structure and metabolism was stable. Before and after bioleaching, the microbial DNA was extracted and applied to RFLP (restricted fragment length polymorphism) analysis to demonstrate the relationship between the leaching efficiency and the change of microbial community. Atomic absorption spectrometry results showed that when concentration of the pulp was 10% and pH were 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5, the leaching rate were 56%, 57% and 34% on the 18th day respectively. These results indicated that the rise of pH resulted in the decrease of leaching rate. In lower pH condition, the growth of microbe was faster: when pH was 1.5, the microbial cell number reached to 1.4×107cells/mL on the 9th day; while pH was 2.5, the microbial cell number decreased to 4×106cells/mL. The analysis of microbial community structure showed that Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans and Leptospirillum ferrooxidans were dominant species before bioleaching (account for 43% and 32% respectively). And after bioleaching, these two species were still dominant when the initial bioleaching pH were1.5 and 2.0. While the initial bioleaching pH was 2.5, the proportion of these two species decreased. These results demonstrated that the initial bioleaching pH would affect the microbial community structure in bioleaching system at room temperature, and this affect could lead to different copper pyrites bioleaching efficiency.

Kelsey Centrifugal Jig was found to be promising for the beneficiation of fine coal particles. The present study was aimed at in-depth understanding of the separation features of Kelsey Jig through detailed experimentation. Beneficiation of fine coal of size 150 x 300 µm was studied in a laboratory Kelsey Jig. The thickness of the ragging bed is found to be an extremely crucial parameter apart from the other process parameters such as rotational speed and pulsation frequency. A constant pulp density (25% solids) of the feed slurry was maintained in the study. The feed rate was also kept constant at 50 kg/hr dry solids. Silica sand of size -1.68+0.85 mm was used as ragging material to avoid the pegging of internal screen having an opening of 425 µm. The rotational speed was found to have significant effect on the depth of the ragging bed and its porosity, which influenced the separation performance considerably. Pulsation was identified as the key factor in stratifying the coal bed and defining the misplacement as well as ragging bed porosity, which influenced the mass yield and quality of the products. Beneficiation studies were carried out with rotational speed varying between 900-1000 rpm while pulsation frequency was kept within 850-925 rpm. In a single pass through the Kelsey Jig 7-8% (absolute) reduction in the ash content of the feed material was observed at more than 55% mass yield. High rotational speed, moderate pulsation, and low ragging bed depth favored good cleaning. A high bed depth was found to facilitate rejection of high ash materials. It was established that Kelsey Jig is effective in fine coal cleaning though a controlled operation is required in order to achieve superior performance. There are three polymorphic modifications in pyrrhotite (monoclinic, hexagonal and orthorhombic), with monoclinic and hexagonal polymorph being more abundant. The floatability of different crystalline structures of pyrrhotite (monoclinic and hexagonal) is studied in this paper. It is shown that the floatability difference of monoclinic and hexagonal is obvious and that the flotation recovery of monoclinic pyrrhotite is greater than that of hexagonal pyrrhotite using different collectors . Using butyl dithiophosphate as collector, the flotation recovery of pyrrhotite is higher than when sodium diethyl dithiocarbamate and sodium butyl xanthate are used as the collectors. Monoclinic and hexagonal pyrrhotites are more easily activated by Cu2+ in acidic conditions than in alkaline conditions, while Cu2+ can not activate hexagonal pyrrhotite when sodium diethyldithiocarbamate was used as the collector. By the measurement of contact angle, it is indicated that monoclinic and hex-agonal pyrrhotite float well and are easily activated by Cu2+when dithiophosphate was used as the collector. Using sodium diethyl dithiocarbamate as a collector, the flotation behavior of pyrrhotite was investigated. The relationship between potential and pH range for pyrrhotite flotation was established. The results show that the flotation of pyrrhotite is dependent on pulp potential at certain pH values.

"After the milling and flotation of the platinum bearing ore, the flotation concentrate is electrically smelted in 6-in-line electric arc furnaces and the resulting furnace matte treated in Peirce Smith converters to remove the iron sulphide. The iron free (less than 1% Fe) converter matte is then granulated and sent to the Base Metals- and Precious Metals Refineries for further processing.During the smelting and converting processes two distinct gas streams are produced.The Peirce Smith converter off gas contains 4% - 9% SO2 which is treated in a conventional Sulphuric Acid Plant to produce sulphuric acid (H2SO4).The electric furnace off gas contains 0.9% SO2 and was (until September 2002) vented through a 91 meter high stack to atmosphere.Off gasses which contain less than 3% SO2 is difficult to handle and quite a few processes had been developed over the years to cope with this gas. A broad spectrum of process suppliers and technology approaches is available and the different technologies can be divided into a few main approaches i.e.Scrubbing of the off gas with an alkaline solution to produce an environmentally friendly and stable waste product which can be discharged onto a tailings dam or permanent landfill site.Physical absorption of the SO2 into a chemical solution to produce high quality chemically pure process chemicals.Catalytic reaction of SO2 with O2 to produce SO3 which is absorbed in water to produce sulphuric acid of less than 90% strength.In October 2002 Impala Platinum commissioned a Sulfacid Plant at its Smelter in Rustenburg which recovers the SO2 from the electric furnace off gasses into a weak sulphuric acid solution.The Sulfacid Plant technology is widely used in the paint pigment industry. This is, however, the first application of the technology on electric furnace off gas.The furnace off gasses contains flue dust which is removed in electrostatic precipitators. The gas exiting the precipitators normally still contains between 40 mg/Nm3 and 60 mg/Nm3 dust and passes through a quench-scrubber before entering the reactors. The quench-scrubber cools the electric furnace offgas down from ± 200 °C to 60 °C and act as a final dust removal stage."
