During 1964 and 1965 a mineral exploration program was carried out over an area of approximately 250 square miles, located in the Anvil-Vangorda Creek area of east central Yukon, 125 miles northwest of Whitehorse. The Vangorda deposit, a massive lead-zinc sulphide body discovered in 1953, was centred in the area proposed for exploration, a northwest trending belt located between the southwestern flank of the Anvil Range and Pelly River. Exploration for base metals in the remote Anvil area had previously been restricted by poor metal markets in the late 1950's. Regional geologic information was also limited except for publication of a scale 1 inch to 4 mile map by the Geological Survey of Canada in 1961. To effectively explore this area, a combination of geophysical and geochemical methods were essential due to extensive overburden cover varying in depth from a few feet to over 300 feet. (Figure (i) Key Map) Dynasty Explorations initiated the first comprehensive regional exploration program in the Anvil area, utilizing saturation prospecting methods employing geologic, geochemical and geophysical methods. The program involved an approach demanding continual modification of technical and physical logistics. After a total of 12 months of field work involving an expenditure of approximately $450,00, massive sulphides were discovered which subsequently proved to be an economic orebody. Thirteen properties had been acquired and explored. Ten separate geophysical anomalies had been outlined by a combination of magnetic, electric and gravimetric survey techniques of which five were tested by rotary drilling and two by diamond core drilling. The discovery of the Faro deposit was a direct result of this program.

??care has to be taken that the design is driven by sound geological reasoning and rigorous engineering logic rather than by the very attractive images that appear on the computer screen.??Hoek 1999 Design of a cavern is inextricably linked to the engineering geology of the site. The importance of sound geological reasoning will be illustrated by transportation projects in New York City where there are proposals for at least 11 caverns. These caverns have been the subject of advanced exploration techniques and geological interpretation but even so the raw data falls short of the sophistication of modern numerical methods. This paper will give geological explanations for the engineering characteristics of the rock in New York City which will provide guidance for practitioners when approaching cavern design in New York and elsewhere.

Stoppings are required to resist lateral forces on the face of the structure to control pressure differentials created by ventilating air. The design criteria in other parts of the world, including Australia, exceed this requirement by specifying over pressurization control to as much as 14 kPa (2 psi) in the active sections and 35 kPa (5 psi) in the main ventilating control areas. This is done to provide protection to the mine workers from explosive or air blast events within the mine that can create this over pressurization. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has been conducting research to develop a new testing protocol for rating mine ventilation stoppings. The premise of this work is that arch-loading conditions more accurately reflects the transverse load capabilities of stoppings in underground coal mines than the freestanding flexural strength test specified in the current Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). This work clearly shows that the transverse load capabilities of dry-stacked, mine ventilation stoppings are dependent upon the material strength of the block and the height and thickness of the wall, none of which are part of the current CFR criteria based on ASTM E-72 specifications. This paper compares the transverse load capabilities of several block materials and wall dimensions commonly used in stopping constructions based upon simulated three-hinge, rigid-arch loading tests of half-wall constructions in the NIOSH Mine Roof Simulator. The results indicate a wide-range of transverse load capacities, ranging from as low as 21 kPa (0.3 psi) to as much as 117 kPa (17 psi) for the conditions evaluated in this study. The current CFR criteria do not distinguish between applications of these stopping designs despite their wide variance in transverse load capabilities, which is not conducive to employing ventilation control strategies that isolate certain sections of the mine to prevent injury to mine workers.

"THE MICHIGAN COPPER DISTRICT.Location. The copper mines of Michigan are all in the north¬ern part of that state on the Keweenaw Peninsula, which extends from the (Michigan) mainland for about seventy miles northeast¬erly toward the middle of Lake Superior. The mines occur in a belt or zone occupying the central portion of the peninsula from end to end.. The most productive mines for many years past have been those located not far from the city of Houghton in' the central part of the zone, in a section extending about ten miles southwest of Houghton and fifteen miles northeast. The most important mines in order of.location, from the northeast to south¬west, are the following: Mohawk, Ahmeek, Allouez, North Kearsarge, Wolverine, South Kearsarge, Centennial, Calumet. and Hecla, Osceola, Franklin, Quincy, Hancock, Isle Royale, Superior, Baltic, Trimountain, and Champion. The first three named are in Keweenaw county and all of the others are in Houghton county. Still farther to the southwest are the Lake, Mass, Adventure, Michigan, Victoria, and White Pine mines. These are in Ontonagon county.History. The exploitation of these copper mines extends back into prehistoric times. There is little evidence that the American Indians carried on mining operations in this region in the period shortly before the advent of white men, but there is abundant evidence that the ancestors of the Indians, •or some earlier inhabitants of the region, carried on primitive mining operations. For example, Mr. S. O. Knapp, Agent of the Minne¬sota Mining Company, in the winter of 1847-48, made the first discovery of prehistoric mining. This event is described as fol ,lows by Foster and Whitney : Location: As shown on the accompanying map, the Mar-quette district extends from the region of Marquette on Lake Superior westward for about forty miles. The main basin of the district is only about three to six miles wide, but outlying areas which are commonly regarded as belonging to the same mining unit, make the north and south dimension of the district about twenty miles. The most productive portion of the area is in the vicinity of Negaunee and Ishpeming, .about ten miles from Mar¬quette, but important mines are found also all along the range as far west as Michigamme and also to the south in the fold known as the Republic Trough. Comparatively recent developments indicate that important ore bodies have been developed in the outlying Swanzy district about eighteen Miles nearly due south of Marquette.The Marquette Iron District.History: The first discovery of iron ore in the Lake Supe¬rior region was probably that made in 1844 near the site of Ne-gaunee by the government surveying party in charge of William A. Burt, sent out under the direction of Douglass Houghton. This surveying party was using a solar compass, invented by Mr. Burt, and noticed variations in the direction of the magnetic needle at various times and places, but. on the 19th of September, while running the east line of Township 47 North, Range 27 West, the needle varied from its normal position until it stood nearly at right angles thereto."

Measurements of the quantity of entrained air within processes have challenged instrumentation developers for years. This is particularly true in the unique and demanding operating environment and applications seen in minerals processing. In minerals processing applications, entrained air plays a role in errors seen within nuclear density gauge measurements and in pumping efficiency. It is also the major component of flotation processes. The measurement of the quantity of entrained air, known as the gas void fraction, can now be performed from the outside of a process pipe through CiDRA?s patented passive sonar array-based technology. Within column cells, the need for a robust, no maintenance, accurate means of measuring the entrained air, known as gas holdup, has resulted in a submersible version of this technology. CiDRA?s meter technology calculates the gas void fraction by first measuring the speed at which naturally occurring sound in the process slurry propagates past an axial array of sensors. These sensors are incorporated in a band that is wrapped around the outside of the pipe, resulting in no process downtimes for installation and unprecedented reliability. A known relationship between this speed of sound and the entrained air captured in the form of bubbles within the slurry is then applied in CiDRA?s meter to calculate the gas void fraction. This paper will present the measurement technology, its operation, its calibration and its application in a variety of gas void fraction and gas holdup measurement situations such as pumping efficiencies, hydrocyclone operation, external sparging, and column cells.

The transport of dust particles from a turbulent air stream on to the surface of a mine entry is mainly due to the effect of diffusion, sedimentation and inertial impaction. While the literature in aerosol science contains many references on particle deposition, most studies apply to smooth surfaces in small, short tubes. The deposition data from those experiments may not be applicable to deposition in mine airways that have large areas of rough surfaces and extend several thousand meters. This paper describes the mechanisms of mine dust transportation and deposition, specifically, by estimating the turbulent deposition velocity for coal dust in mine airways. Data from in-mine experiments on ambient dust concentration and dust deposition along a straight entry were used. A statistical model for dimensionless turbulent deposition velocity was developed, and compared with the models developed by other researchers. The model shows that the distance from the dust source is an important factor in the turbulent deposition of mine dust.

In the analysis of comminution processes, it is necessary to have a detailed knowledge of such sub-processes as: (i) The transportation of the particles to the zone where they are stressed, (ii) The stressing of the particles to a level high enough for breakage, (iii) The removal of the fragments that are smaller than the limit size from the grinding zone, and (iv) The prevention of agglomeration of the fine fragments. The breakage phenomena of particles is the most difficult sub-process to understand. It can be understood only by applying the principles of fracture physics to obtain information about the stress-strain field in particles which are loaded either by compression or by impact, and by using this theoretical knowledge to interpret experimental results obtained from single particle crushing studies. It is not only of academic interest to know how a particle breaks, but also it is important for practical applications because it provides a basis for evaluating both the direction and limitation for any potential comminution improvement.

If the past is the key to the future, we will have ?tough? times maintaining Industrial Mineral reserves we have and proving new reserves around our plants and in new locations. The tough times will come from resources being more difficult to find, more hoops to go thru to make them Proven or Probable reserves. As always, Industrial Minerals require competitive quality, location, and costs. Since in most cases the market has suppliers, you will have to take away customers from their present supplier. This may take years or not happen even with lower cost higher quality raw materials. To determine the finished cost for a new deposit you need to design, determine capital costs, and operating costs for a new plant . Stripping, mining, hauling, processing, and transportation costs are part of the equation. After satisfying that your costs are in line you will need to do production tests to make sure the process works on the ore. You may want to complete permitting before purchasing the property. If you are new in the business you will have to prove you can deliver the right quality, the right quantity, on time consistently year after year at lower cost to take away a customer. Without being in the market this will be hard. The cut off grades to enter a market may be much lower than sale indicates because a competitor often lowers the price to keep you out of the market. We have many more items to check before the new deposits can be put on reserves. Our old reserves will require drilling to check for new products and prove that they do not contain items that would make them unusable for our product line or cause permitting problems. Archeological checks, wetlands, more water discharge testing, county zoning, and endangered species are among many items that have been added to mine permits. There will be more. A 4-6 page mining permit becomes 30-300 pages and consists of 5-15 permits, any of which might be a fatal stumbling block. It is not guaranteed that we can mine what we have on reserves. We may fight and lose. Oil-Dri?s loss in Reno and LaPort?s in England are examples where permitting failed. The NOx, sulfur, and carbon problems are just starting. Dioxin is in the background requiring monitoring on food products to Europe. What other anions, cations, endangered species, and land types are going to be problems in the future are guesses now. What new products are we going to have to test for and cause out of balance reserves? If there are none we probably won?t be here. We are competing for land use with ?Endangered Species?, wetlands, farming, forestry, cities, roads, and hunting. We?ve mined the best quality, low overburden, easiest to mine and process raw materials. The price of land and taxes are increasing. Old royalties are 2-3 times the present acre value instead of 8-10 times the property value when leased. Land taxes are up. It was and is best that we get the land in Fee Simple Title. This isn?t always possible. However, plants are closing and people have overlooked, made mistakes in drilling or interpretation of deposits. These may be opportunities. China is eating up high quality ?Industrial Minerals ?which have caused prices to rise. We may need to change our cutoffs? in terms of smaller pit sizes and higher overburden ratios. This is money in the bank. Overburden ratios and other items increasing cutoff costs need to be rethought. Suddenly doubling cutoff ratios for overburden and decreasing pit sizes are good alternatives to looking elsewhere where we might not be able to mine for a number of reasons. The higher prices make them competitive, especially when a competitor goes out of business. However, our low overburden ratios and short hauls around our plants are not safe from new roads, condemnation by county or city governments (N. J.), zoning changes (Reno, FL., CA, and environmental regulation changes (Buffers GA, MS). New roads ?Interstates? can take reserves, increase hauling distances and reduce tons per load. Let?s combine the Refractories, fullers earth, and bentonite industries and use the last 40 years as a guide to the future looking for problems and opportunities. Some or most of the following will apply to other minerals. WHERE DO WE LOOK? First, on our own properties, those next to our properties and on properties near our competitor?s plants. Where the profit margin has increased, the distance from the plant and thickness of overburden we can use is increased. The thickness of clay is decreased. For new locations we pick the ideal location and look at deposits and closed or open operations in ever increasing distances away from that location. We need to be aware of: 1. Increased transportation costs a. Access to Roads -Backhauls b. Haul with doubles and triples c. Railroads - Loading on sidings - Ability to get switches - Cars/backhauls versus rates 2. Cost of building a new plant 3. Cost of infrastructure 4. Cost of repair or new equipment when purchasing an operating or shutdown plant. 5. Local, state, and federal mine and environmental permitting. When exploring around an established operation expect that property acquisition, drilling, mining, stripping, and hauling costs will be greater due to them having second, third, or even fourth the pick of the deposits. I found this in New Jersey looking for refractories and around Quincy, Florida looking for attapulgite. You may be able to get some better properties because the operating company has angered some land owners, their drillers missed the clay, or the property wasn?t available when they were actively exploring for reserves. The effect of anions such as sulfate, chloride, and nitrate on the solubility of rare earth element-bearing phosphates and fluorocarbonates has been examined using relevant thermodynamic data. The study has found that these anions have significant influences on the overall dissolution of rare earth elements (REEs) from various sources in the aqueous media. The thermodynamic calculations in this study have indicated that the speciation of REEs with the anions tends to increase the overall solubility of the REE-bearing minerals. However, in some cases, strong precipitation of REEs with some of these anions causes an adverse effect on the solubility of these elements. It has been found that sulfate ion has the most pronounced effect on the solubility compared to nitrate and chloride, in which the latter two acids exhibited almost identical results. The calculated results have indicated that REE-oxide (hydrated) is the easiest compound to dissolve, followed by carbonate, phosphate, fluoride, sulfate, fluoro-carbonate, and oxalate in that order.

Portland cement is a basic building material in every country in the world, and, fortunately, the raw materials required in its manufacture are widely distributed. Use of cement begins early in a country's development, and, because of local availability of raw materials, cement manufacture is one of the first heavy industries many countries desire. Use and manufacture of cement usually precedes other industrial materials such as steel and heavy chemicals, and consumption levels off for a long period during development of infrastructure and an economic base. With a mature economy comes a very high consumption. Per capita consumption varies ten times or more between nations (Figure 1).

Real copper prices during the past several decades display two striking characteristics. First, they are highly volatile. Within a year or two, copper prices can rise or fall by 30% or more. Second, over the longer term, they are falling. Indeed, since 1970, the secular trend price for copper is down by more than 50%. Figure 1 highlights both of these characteristics. It shows the average annual US producer price for copper since 1970 measured in constant 2001 US dollars. While the London Metal Exchange (LME) copper price is not shown, it and the US producer price have for some time moved more or less together. So pronounced short-run fluctuations around a significant long-run decline describe copper prices, not only in the United States, but around the world.

The shipment of coal, ores, and minerals in bulk form during the winter months presents a difficult problem in emptying rail cars. U. S. Steel Research in cooperation with U. S. Steel Coal Operations bas laboratory tested and field monitored the effectiveness of using freeze conditioning agents (FCA) to minimize the frozen coal problem. This report examines, in an overview manner, our experience after four seasons of treatment using different FCA agents on raw and preparation plant products. Our observations indicate that if an FCA is applied correctly it is effective mineral to mineral. Freezing problems still occur at the interface between the coal and the metal of the car sides and bottoms. Leading chemical suppliers have made positive improvements in their FCA formulations with second and third generation products. Further advances are needed to make chemical treatment for the prevention of frozen coal a real full-proof method.

Although salmonid fishes (including Pacific salmon and trout) have only intermediate sensitivity to copper (Cu) for traditional toxicity endpoints (survival, growth, and reproduction) and thus do not ?drive? the freshwater Cu criteria (e.g., see species-sensitivity ranking in US EPA 2007), Cu concentrations as low as 1 to 2 µg/L have been reported to impair olfaction (the sense of smell) in salmonids in laboratory experiments using dilute fresh water (see references in Meyer and Adams 2010 and DeForest et al. 2011). Olfaction is crucial to predator avoidance, recognition of kin, and reproductive synchronization (Baldwin et al. 2003); and Cu is of general ecotoxicological concern because it can be present in acid/mine rock drainage, industrial and municipal effluents, agricultural runoff, and urban stormwater runoff (Meyer et al. 2007). Therefore, there is public concern that the current regulation of Cu in surface waters is not stringent enough to protect salmonid fishes against olfactory impairment (e.g., OSU 2007; Pearson 2007). Because the toxicity of metals to aquatic organisms is a function of water chemistry [e.g., acute toxicity of Cu generally decreases as pH, water hardness (Ca2+ + Mg2+), alkalinity, and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations increase; Meyer et al. 2007], hardness-based freshwater criteria for metals are lower at lower water hardness. The recently-developed biotic ligand model (BLM) explicitly takes into account all four of those water chemistry parameters and the concentrations of other major inorganic cations (Na+, K+) and anions (Cl-, SO42-) to predict the acute toxicity of cationic metals (e.g., Ag, Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn) to aquatic organisms; and the BLM has been adopted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) to calculate acute and chronic national freshwater criteria for Cu (US EPA 2007). Consistent with observations of Cu toxicity to aquatic organisms, BLM-based Cu criteria generally are lower at lower pH, water hardness, alkalinity, and DOC concentrations. Therefore, although threshold concentrations for olfactory impairment by Cu can be low in dilute fresh waters, the corresponding hardness-based and BLM-based Cu criteria for the same waters also tend to be low. This leads to a logical question: Are Cu criteria already protective against impairment of olfaction in salmonid fishes, thus obviating the need to decrease those criteria even lower to protect against adverse effects to this physiological/ecotoxicological endpoint? Herein, we demonstrate that in all studies conducted to date, the US EPA?s BLM-based freshwater Cu criteria would have been protective against olfactory impairment in salmonid fishes, but the US EPA?s hardness-based criteria would not always have been protective. This distinction is important because all 50 States in the USA still use hardness-based Cu criteria in their water quality standards, and only some of the States allow use of the BLM to calculate site-specific Cu criteria. Additionally, in the absence of empirical results for calibration of a saltwater Cu-olfactory model, we demonstrate that a proposed unified freshwater-saltwater Cu-olfactory BLM predicts the US EPA?s current saltwater Cu criteria would be protective against olfactory impairment caused by Cu in sea water.

"Strategies to improve performance in mining production, maintenance and mineral processing operations have evolved over time from straightforward time studies of individual machine performance in the 1960s-1970s to more sophisticated and better focused statistical and financial tools that have emerged in the 1980s-1990s. These newer strategies fall under the broad descriptive category of operational excellence.Operational excellence is the term that embodies a number of performance evaluating strategies, the most popular and relevant to mining include the following:• Six sigma for addressing errors within mining or milling process and work standards.• Lean manufacturing to optimize organizational and operational performance through continuous improvement.There are other strategies that can be applied as well and this paper is not focused on a review of the pros and cons of any one strategy. However, the common threads in these strategies embody the expectation that expected results from these efforts can be quantified and that value will positively benefit the targeted work process, organizational unit, equipment deployment or time schedule when applied to it as part of continuous improvement efforts.The priority for proceeding with any one or more of these efforts is based on the calculated net value of the required resources to make the change versus the estimated value gained. The practice is identified as the value mapping process.This discussion summarizes the value mapping process methodology used at a mature uranium mine and mill in northern Canada to work through the myriad of potential improvement efforts available through the operational excellence process for continuous improvement."

The Liaoning Dahuofang Reservoir Water Transfer Project is an important development for the Department of Water Resources of Liaoning Province in northeastern China. The 85.3 km water conduit will transport water from the Hun River downstream of the Huanren Reservoir to the outlet on the Suzi River leading to the Dahuofang Reservoir. The additional water is required to sustain the growing cities of Fushun, Shen-yang, Liaoyang, Anshan, Panjin and Yingkou. The project is divided into seven contracts. Three TBM contracts comprise almost 75% of the work and the others are drill and shoot. The focus of this paper is about the creditable TBM performances achieved and some of the problems encountered by Chinese contractors; notably two having had no previous TBM experience.

To facilitate the installation of the longwall equipment for each extraction panel, West Elk mine develops set-up room roadways that are between 26.5 and 30.5 feet wide. Historically at the mine, the set-up room roadways have been driven in a single 20-foot-wide pass, then incrementally widened to the required width during installation of the longwall shields. The first pass roof is supported with a generic roof support plan consisting of partially encapsulated roof bolts and point-anchored cables. This ground support plan was utilized regardless of the geotechnical conditions encountered in the roadways or consideration of the required stand-up time of the roadway before the longwall shields were installed. This "blanket" approach tends to result in over-conservative or inappropriate roof support designs, particularly in changing geotechnical environments. Guided by the desire to optimize the ground support plans and increase mining efficiency for future set-up rooms, the West Elk mine and Agapito Associates, Inc. have developed and implemented a strata management program. Strata management, as a formal and structured process, allows ground support and mining methods to be tailored to the anticipated and encountered geotechnical environment in a con- trolled manner (Thomas 2007). To arrive at adequate site-specific ground support plans for the set-up rooms at the mine, several struc- tured processes were utilized. Firstly, the geotechnical environment was characterized by examining the roof lithology and geomechanical properties from nearby rock core obtained from exploration boreholes. To increase both mining efficiency and continuity, and to achieve longer stand-up times before the longwall shields are installed, a multi-pass approach was implemented into the design. During mining, the geotechnical conditions of the roadway are mapped, and the roof is strategically surveyed with a borescope. This process was used to ensure that the encountered ground behavior was in alignment with the design standards used for the roof support design. To support this process with measured data, roof extensometers were strategically installed throughout the roadway. This data was used to monitor the magnitude of roof displacement at various horizons and record displacement rates up until the longwall shields were installed. Lastly, a Trigger Action Response Plan (TARP) was used during mining to cater for any unforeseen changes in ground conditions that would warrant additional con- trols such as increased monitoring or the installation of additional ground support. This paper presents two case histories at the mine where the above strata management approach was implemented to arrive at a site-specific ground support plan. The main changes to the mine's ground control plan included a multi-pass mining approach, the utilization of fully encapsulated roof bolts, and the transition to a stiffer roof support system. The geotechnical mapping, the roof borescope results, and the roof extensometer data will be presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the ground support system up until the longwall shields were installed in both presented cases.

The mining workforce experiences high rates of hazardous noise exposure and hearing loss. However, previous studies have identified specific behavioral and attitudinal barriers that keep miners from effectively acting to prevent their own hearing loss. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has developed several new hearing loss prevention tools and interventions that specifically target these barriers to prevention. The NIOSH Hearing Loss Simulator addresses motivation to take action and knowledge about the consequences of noise exposure. The QuickFit earplug test device and QuickFitWeb online hearing protection tester address barriers to effective earplug and earmuff use by verifying at least 15 decibels of protection. The NIOSH Roll-Pull-Hold technique helps miners obtain better protection through an easy-to-remember set of steps that improves attenuation by nine decibels. Interest in the western oil shales of the US began in about 1908, with the first retort in Colorado constructed in 1917. The most successful early developments were near Elko, NV, where the Catlin Shale Products Co. produced more than 1.9 dam3 (12 000 bbl) of shale oil during 1920-1924 and at Rulison, CO, where a US government operation produced about 570 in 3 (3 600 bbl) of shale oil during 1926-1929. Plentiful low-cost crude oil was developed about this time and shale oil was of little or no interest until after World War II. From 1944 to about 1972, several companies, and the US government, operated shale oil mines and recovery plants in Colorado. While technical successes were achieved and an estimated 40-56 clam' (250 000-350 000 bbl) of shale oil were produced, economics were not favorable and commercial production was not achieved. In recent years domestic production of crude oil supplies has not kept pace with US consumption. The growing shortfall has been met with imports. The cost of imported oil has continued to escalate and increased US dependence on petroleum imports are national concerns, because of the negative impact on US balance of payments and an increasing dependence on other nations for US energy needs. In 1978, petroleum imports equaled about 44% of demand, up from 23% in 1970, but down from 48% in 1977 because of availability of Alaskan North Slope crude oil. Reduced domestic consumption and other factors have reduced current imports to about 40-45% of de¬wand-but at ever increasing cost. The growing shortage of crude petroleum and its increasing cost have resulted in renewed worldwide interest in oil shales. In the past, the main obstacle to oil shale development (progress toward commercial production) has been economics-shale oil cost too much to develop and thus could not compete with conventional petroleum crudes. Even with today's inflated energy prices, some experts say the production of synthetic crude oil from oil shale is, at best, marginally economic. Precast concrete segmental linings for tunnels have traditionally been designed with conventional steel bar reinforcement. In many cases, this has been satisfactory in service, but in others, major problems have occurred with the durability of the linings. Commonly this has resulted from corrosion of the reinforcement, mainly from chloridesin ground water, causing spalling of the concrete and leading to very expensive and disruptive repair programs. This paper discusses the relative merits of designing tunnel linings with steel fiber reinforcement to provide long-term durability, improved impact resistance and toughness for greater load capacity across joints, enhanced robustness during transportation and erection, plus improved fire resistance with the addition of polypropylene fibers. Guidance is also given in the selection of the correct fiber type, mix design and testing methods to establish the optimum dosage required and production techniques to ensure even distribution and compaction.
