THE greater part of the literature on the plastic behavior of magnesium dates back to that active period of research in crystal mechanics immediately following the widespread preparation of isolated metallic crystals large enough for the application of conventional methods of mechanical testing. These investigations, performed on single crystals, revealed an analogy between zinc and magnesium with respect to their fundamental mode of deformation, in the operation of glide and twinning, respectively, on crystallographically similar planes. Mathewson and Phillips (1928)1 by geometrical analysis identified the {102} ? plane in magnesium as the twinning plane, Schiebold and Siebel (1931)2 confirmed this twinning plane, established the basal plane as the plane of slip, and a digonal axis I as the slip direction. They also reported twin formation in a secondary role on the {101} plane. Schmid (1931)3 summarized and discussed the earlier evidence and presented the results of his own experiments on the effect of temperature and small amounts of soluble elements. From X-ray studies on extended wire single crystals, he concluded that slip along the basal plane in the direction of the digonal axis I closest to the stress direction was the sole slip system operating at atmospheric temperature. This conclusion was based on experiments with crystals of many different orientations relative to the stress axis. Special attention was directed to the basal plane and the digonal axis I, as the plane and direction of greatest atomic density. Determinations of resolved shear stress at the onset of plastic yielding-i.e., the critical resolved shear stress-were also made; the average of these calculations showing 82.9 grams per sq. mm. This value varied only slightly up to 300°C., at which temperature it was found to decrease to 70.5 grams per sq. mm. The Free World uranium market is now characterized by production nearly twice that of consumption result- ing in a rapid build-up of uranium inventories. Low- cost production from high-grade deposits in Australia and Western Canada will gradually add another 10 to 15 million pounds U308 annually into Free World production throughout the 1980's. This latter material cannot be absorbed in further inventory build-up and can only displace higher cost production. The result is a restructuring of the Free World producer industry. United States and Eastern Canadian producers have the higher cost production which gradually will be displaced from the market during this decade. As United States production declines, United States utilities must increase their reliance on foreign supplies in order to meet their needs. This paper reviews the elements that will cause the restructuring of the Free World producer industry and the expected response of the United States utility industry to that developing situation.

An economic geologist is concerned primarily with finding deposits of economic value, estimating their tenor and quantity, their shape and position. Thus the primary problems can largely be lumped under three headings: position, character and quantity; and all three are phases of the broader problem of genesis. Distribution, tenor and quantity are of immediate practical importance and are studied constantly by all who exploit mineral deposits. Although the emphasis changes from year to year, the problems of genesis seem more remote and rarely get the serious consideration from the field man that the other three do. Our understanding of the problems of the genesis of mineral deposits has come largely as a by-product of more evidently utilitarian work in the past, and probably will continue to grow in the same manner lor many years to come. However, it might be economically fruitful for the producers to have many competent investigators spending their time chiefly on the problems of genesis of mineral deposits. Many years ago, when first engaged in work for the United States Geological Survey in Colorado, I expressed a conviction which was just then dawning on me by saying that economic geology was turning out to be 80 per cent structural geology, to which Mr. B. S. Butler replied, "Yes, and more than 80 per cent of structural geology is lithology." At the present time there seems to be a widespread feeling among economic geologists that the problems of position or distribution are largely problems of structure and rock types. Types of Research Ptesearch in any branch of geology can be conveniently divided into two types: field research and laboratory research. Ideas are usually dug up in the field, pruned or developed in the laboratory, and taken back to the field for proving. For either the first or last step the field data should he as complete as possible, and the structural geology of nearly all our mineral deposits still needs more detailed delineation. In general, this means mapping on larger seales. The new geophone described herein was developed by Charles H. Hull, instrumentmaker of the Colorado School of Mines, and the writer. The first geophone was invented during the war for the purpose of detecting enemy sapping or underground mining operations and for locating enemy artillery. It is based on the principle of the seismograph—a heavy lead mass suspended by one or two diaphragms, which are clamped to an air-tight case. When the ground vibrates during the transmission of sound waves, the case moves with it while the so-called steady mass remains practically motionless. Attached to the top of the casing is a hose leading to an earpiece shaped like a stethoscope. When the mass and the diaphragm move up and down in the case, the air is compressed and rarified in the inside; thus the vibration is communicated as sound wave to the human ear. The geophone combines a surprising simplicity of construction with an extreme sensitivity. Other listening instruments were developed during the war, adaptations of the telephone and the microphone—that is, instruments operating through the medium of electricity—of which the so-called seismicrophone, an adaptation of the carbon-granule microphone receiver, probably has found the greatest application, but such instruments apparently have not proved as useful as the simple geophone despite obvious advantages arising from the use of electricity. The carbon receivers were more subject to extraneous noises and to what is called "frying," and they did not offer the advantage possessed by the geophone; namely, the simultaneous use of two receivers, which makes it possible to determine the location of the source of sound. During the war, the U. S. Bureau of Mines made a study of the geophone and of the propagation of sound waves through rock. These studies have been continued, as the earlier results proved the possibility of using the geophone in various non-military ways, principally in mining, and the results of these studies have been published.'

This paper is limited primarily to a description of dry coal-cleaning processes in which air currents are used to effectuate a separation between coal and refuse. Processes depending mainly on differences in the coefficient of friction, resilience and shape are not described unless the use of air is necessary for the proper functioning of the process. The air cleaning of coal is of primary importance to the coal industry of the United States. From figures presented in the 1941 edition Mechannual, it is estimated that at least 12 million tons of bituminous coal was cleaned in the United States during 1940 by machines using air as the separating medium. One of the current problems confronting the coal-preparation engineer is the dry cleaning of small sizes and slacks. Progress in machine development for the cleaning of small sizes has been slow in recent years in the United States of America; it has been much more rapid in Britain and on the European continent. This paper does not attempt an exhaustive survey of all these developments, and only machines and processes that have found considerable commercial application are cited. Further, no critical analysis has been made of the theory involved in the separation of coal from refuse by processes using air as the separating medium other than that necessary for an understanding of particular machine designs and applications. The possibility of using air for the separation of coal from refuse was recognized early by mining men and many attempts were made to develop commercial machines. The ingenuity of the early experimenters is to be marveled at in view of their lack of knowledge of the theoretical principles involved. As in other arts, practice has largely preceded theory. Yet, science and practice play a game of leap frog, now one ahead, then the other; the careful experimenmenter governs his efforts along practical lines by adapting his experiments to the limits prescribed by scientific laws. By first studying developments and the theory involved, it is not only possible to adapt processes to new uses but also to reduce materially operating cost and to build larger units without costly failures. Although many inventors have applied for patents for separating minerals by the use of air currents, the literature in regard to coal is meager. Berrisford2 describes briefly some of the early attempts to clean coal without the use of water. Several of the examples cited by him are reproduced herein. Fig. I shows a machine used for grinding and; izing, in which rollers running in a pan with a perforated bottom and fan opening on the side crushed the coal, which was then carried by the air currents to a settling chamber. The heaviest particles dropped out first and the light ones farthest away, as shown. In the year 1864, a machine was made that could be used as a sizer or to separate dirt from coal with a sized feed (Fig. 2).

So far as the quality of the product is concerned, the history of the production of pig iron for foundry purposes is one of constant retrogression. The steps in this deterioration began with cold-blast charcoal pig iron, then anthracite iron, coke iron; then gradually warm to hot-blast coke iron, with the charcoal furnaces also heating their blast to get greater tonnages, and finally the present-day hot-blast coke irons with scrap additions to the ordinary burden that, according to one European report, have gone as high as 65 per cent. Parallel with this quality retrogression is the enormous increase in furnace tonnages from about 15 to over 1000 tons per day in excep tional instances of modern practice. The key to this situation is economic pressure. The effect is a growing differentiation between furnace production for gray iron and malleable foundries and for the production of commercial steel. As the foundry is often compelled to draw upon the pig irons made for steel purposes, for economic reasons, whereas the steel industry does not draw upon foundry pig irons proper, the situation is resolving itself into one of grave consequence for the life of the gray-iron castings industry, and hence the intensive present-day feeling in foundry circles for rigid specifications to govern the quality of pig irons sold for foundry use. In the discussion of a paper on the use of scrap in the blast furnace held recently in the Institute, a very pertinent remark was made by one of the participating furnacemen, who confessed that "the things found wrong by the foundryman with his iron were beyond his depth." It may be added that those things are also beyond the depth of most foundrymen who, however, know from their results that they are getting poorer castings today with many pig irons than they did with those same brands in former years. The method developed and used in this laboratory for the production of metallic uranium of such purity that it is ductile and can be cold-worked to fine wire or thin sheet by rolling has already been described1. It consists, briefly, in the electrolysis of potassium uranous fluoride (KUF5) in a molten bath composed of equal parts of sodium and calcium chlorides. The bath is contained in a graphite crucible, electrically heated to about 775° C., the crucible serving as the anode for electrolysis. The uranium deposits in finely divided form mixed with salts upon a molybdenum cathode suspended axially in the crucible. Upon completion of the electrolysis the cathode is removed and cooled, the deposit broken and leached to remove salts. The metal powder is washed with water and dilute acetic acid and dried in vacuo to reduce oxidation. Suitable amounts are then prcssed into pellets and heated in vacuo by high-frequency induction, using a thoria crucible. The uranium melts and flows away from the pellet, leaving a shell, which is largely oxide. In general, this method produced a satisfactory metal, although at times tile uranium was not ductile. The investigations recorded here were made to find the cause of this embrittlement. It was known that the metal generally contained carbon, derived from disintegration of the graphitc crucible in which electrolysis is conducted, in amounts dependent upon the thoroughness of washing the metal powder. Accordingly, analyses of several samples, both ductile and brittle, were made by combustion and absorption of CO² in Ascarite, using air instead of oxygen to reduce the temperaturc and rate of oxidation. Several of these metals were made with special precautions to reduce carbon content. The results show no relationship between ductility and carbon content in the range investigated (Table 1). Microscopic examination of ductile and brittle metals disclosed the presence in the latter of an intergranular constituent, harder than the matrix and less easily oxidizable, which was absent from the ductile material. In developing a minicomputer application for an industrial grinding circuit, the control program is usually coded and the compilation is debugged on a remote access computing system. Final debugging must wait for installation of the minicomputer. This work reports on an alternative. Here both compilation and execution bugs are eliminated before the hardware is installed by testing the control program against a dynamic simulation. Attention is directed toward development of a particular real-time control program for an industrial wet grinding circuit in a copper concentrator. Specific data were supplied by the Anamax Mining Co. for a grinding division consisting of a rod mill followed by two ball mills in parallel. This information was used to set up a plausible model structure.

INTRODUCTION The determination of cloud points has to date been limited to rather transparent oils, visual observation of the formation of a solid phase being the criterion for the standard ASTM D 97-47 method. The need for a quiclc and simple method for determining cloud points under dynamic conditions for opaque crude oils became necessary in a study of fundamental aspects of paraffin deposition from crude oils. PREVIOUS WORK The determination of cloud points in opaque oils by viscosity temperature curves is fairly new, Young' described a method employing the capillary tube principle. No information exists relative to the determination of cloud points of crude or refined oils under dynamic conditions. Shock' noticed that deposition of paraffin from crude oils took place at temperatures at or below the temperature at which a sharp inflection point occurred in the viscosity-temperature curve. This observation indicates a possible correlation between this temperature and the cloud point of the crude oil. Reistle and Vietti1 have reported that when crude oils containing small amounts of asphaltic materials were heated to temperatures sufficiently high to solubilize these materials and immediately cooled the pour point of the crude oil was lowered as much as 70°F. Sachanen\ asribes this effect to the action of colloidal asphaltenes in preventing the formation of the crystalline structure necessary to maintain the oil in a rigid state. At high temperatures, asphaltenes are peptized, and the paraffin crystals formed at these temperatures adsorb the colloidal asphaltenes on their surface thereby hindering further growth of the crystals. Reistle" found, however, that such heating and cooling of crude oils had no effect upon the cloud points. This latter work dealt with a crude oil of fixed composition, and the question immediately arises as to the effect of varying the concentration of asphaltic materials on the cloud point. APPARATUS AND PROCEDURE All viscosity measurements were made with a Bendix Ultra-Viscoson. The Bendix Ultra-Viscoson, which consists of a vibrating probe and an electronic computer. measures viscosity by exciting a thin alloy steel blade on the end of a probe by short electrical pulses in damped oscillation at 28 kilocycles. The blade vibrates longitudinally with an amplilude of less than 55 micron or 20 millionths of an inch. Energy to protlucc this excitation is generated in he computer and transferred to the probe through the connecting cable. The oscillating blade is magnetostric-tive, i.e., it is capable of transforming electrical energy to mechanical energy in the ultrasonic range. Ultrasonic waves are produced in the material surrounding the blade by the oscillating motion of the blade causing layers of the material to slip back and forth over one another at a known frequency. The electronic computer calculates the energy required to produce the sliding motion which is in turn proportional to the viscosity of the material. Actual values of viscosity times density (centi-poise X grams/cc) are indicated on the computer and a continuous D-C signal is provided which is fed into a type 153 Electronic Recorder (manufactured by Brown Instruments Div. of Minneapolis-Honeywell Regulator Co.) The liquid sample container was fabricated from a Lucite cylinder and jacketed by a Luicite water bath. Early experiments using glass and steel sample containers were not satisfactory. since the Ultra-Viscoson was apparently affected by the alterzltion of the magnetic fields surrounding the probe by stresses set LIP in the glass and steel as it cooled. The procedure for determining viscosity-temperature curves was relatively simple. The temperature ot the sample was raised sufficiently high to solubilize all paraffin and asphalts present. The Bureau of Mines, US Department of the Interior, is conducting research on a dewatering technique for fine particles generated during the mineral beneficiation process that will recover a portion of the water now being lost using conventional waste disposal methods and significantly reduce the time required for land reclamation. The technique utilizes a flocculant, polyethylene oxide (PEO), that forms strong stable flocs that can be dewatered rapidly on static and/or rotary screens. Infield tests, phosphate clay waste has been dewatered from a nominal 2.5% solids to greater than 20% solids. In other field tests, coal-clay waste has been dewatered from a nominal 3% solids to greater than 55% solids. In addition, small-scale continuous tests have shown that bentonitic clays can be dewatered from 12% solids to 40% solids.

In any structural transfortnation which is driven by surface tension, the geometric variable of fimdamental importance is the local value of the mean surface curvatuve. Acting through the suvface free energy, this quantity determines the magtnitude of both the pressure and the chemical potential that develops in the neighborhood of an arbitrarily curved surface. A metallographic method which would permit the quaniitatiue estinzation of this propevty is of fundarnerztal irztevest to studies of such processes. In the present paper, it is shoun that the average value of the mean surface curvature in a structuve can be estimated from two simple counting measuretnents made upon a vepresentative metallograpIzic section. No simplifyirlg geonzetric assurmptions are necessary to this deviuation. It is further shoum that the result may be applied to parts of interfaces, e.g., interparticle welds in sintering, or the edge of growing platelets in a phase transformation, without loss of validity. In virtually every metallurgical process in which an interface is important, the local value of the mean surface curvature is the key structural property. This is true because the mean curvature determines the chemical potential of material adjacent to the surface, as well as the state of stress of that material. The theoretical description of such broadly different processes as sintering,1,2 grain growth,3 particle redistrib~tion4,5 and growth of Widmanstatten platelets8 all have as a central geometric variable the "local value of the mean surface curvature". The tools of quantitative metallography currently available permit the statistically precise estimation of the total or extensive geometric properties of a structure: the volume fraction of any distinguishable part:-' the total extent of any observable interface,10,11 and the total length of some three-dimensional lineal feature:' and, if some simplifying assumptions about particle shape are allowed, the total number of particles.'2"3 The size of particles in a structure, specified by a distribution or a mean value, can only be estimated if the particles are all the same shape, and if this shape is relatively simple.14-16 The relationships involved in converting measurements made upon a metallographic section to properties of the three dimensional structure of which the section is a sample are now well-established, and their utility amply demonstrated. In the present paper, another fundamental relationship is added to the tools of quantitative metallography. This relationship is fundamental in the sense that its validity depends only upon the observation of an appropriately representative sample of the structure, and not upon the geometric nature of the structure itself. It involves a new sampling procedure, devised by Rhines, called the "area tangent count". It will first be shown that the "area tangent count" is simply related to the average value of the curvature of particle outline in the two-dimensional section upon which the count is performed. The average curvature of such a section will then be shown to be proportional to the average value of the Mean surface curVature of the structure of which the section is a sample. The final result of the development is thus a relationship which permits the evaluation of the average value of the mean surface curvature from relatively simple counting measurements made upon a representative metallographic section. The result is quite independent of the geometric or even topological nature of the interface being studied. QUANTITATNE EVALUATION OF AVERAGE CURVATURE IN TWO DIMENSIONS The Area Tangent Count. Consider a two-dimen-sional structure composed of two different kinds of distinguishable areas (phases), Fig. l(a). If the system is composed of more than two "phases", it is possible to focus attention upon one phase, and consider the remaining structure as the other phase. The reference phase is separated from the rest of the structure by a set of linear boundaries, of arbitrary shapes and sizes. These boundaries may be totally smooth and continuous, or piecewise smooth and continuous. An element of such a boundary, dA, is shown in Fig. l(b). One may define the "angle subtended" by this arbitrarily curved element of arc, dO, as the angle between the normals erected at its ends, Fig. l(c). Now consider the following experiment. Let a line be swept across this two-dimensional structure, and let the number of tangents that this line forms with elements of arc in the structure be counted. This procedure constitutes the Rhines Area Tangent Count. Suppose that this experiment were repeated a large number of times, with the direction of traverse of the sweeping lines distributed uniformly over the semicircle of orientation.' Those test lines which ap- proach from orientations which lie in the range O to O + dO form a tangent with dA; those outside this range do not, see Fig. l(c). Since the lines are presumed to be uniformly distributed in direction of traverse, the fraction of test lines which form a tangent with dA is the fraction of the circumference of a semicircle which is contained in the orientation range, dO; i.e., vdO/nr or dB/n. If the number of test lines is N, the number forming tangents with dA is N(d0/n). Since each test line sweeps the entire area of the sample, the total area traversed by all N test lines is NL2. One form of encouragement for the small copper mining sector in Chile has been the construction and management of custom mill facilities to process the ore. The paper describes an economic analysis framework for the evaluation of government custom milling opportunities. Feasible mill locations and capacities within a region are selected and the infrastructure and milling costs associated with each combination of location and capacity are assessed. For each combination, the economics of developing and operating known copper deposits in the region is evaluated, and an optimum cut-off grade and mine capacity is selected for the deposits which justify development. Since the total ore supply from mines in the region may exceed a particular custom mill capacity, mine development is scheduled to optimize the economics of the mill facility. Finally, the best custom mill location and capacity is selected on the basis of overall costs and benefits. A copper mining region in northern Chile is used to illustrate the application of the model. A mobile mill approach is examined and compared with the fixed location mill alternatives. Results are analyzed as a function of copper price.

HAVING already shown you the methods of making the moulds for casting and how they are to be prepared so that they may receive the melted metals well, it is now necessary, in order to complete the casting with perfection, that I show you not only the operations and instruments by which metals are softened, but also how metals can be made as liquid and fluid as water so they may easily enter into all the hollows of the moulds that you have made. Of these, besides the fire which is the prime agent, there is a very powerful furnace, which is called a reverberator.* I believe this is chosen not only for convenience but also because it is necessary in large casts. This is made of baked bricks, or of crude ones if desired or of suitable fire-resistant stones. Although all masters have the same objective, each one proceeds to make this kind of furnace according to his own ideas so that it can be said that there are almost as many different shapes of such furnaces as there are masters. This can be seen in the place that contains the metal, which is of such a shape that the force of the fire may operate better. Thus some masters are called good who, seeing no farther than what has been shown them, make them circular like a bread oven. Some others make them oval across the fire en- trance, while others extend them lengthwise. Also, there are some who make a single outlet for the flames, some two, and some three. Some make the entrance for the fire high and narrow and others, wide and low. The same is true of the place where the flames are generated, which is called the firebox. Some put the wood in from the side, some lengthwise in the same direction as the entrance for the flames, and some from above by means of a little hole. FOr Fe-Ni alloys the adjustment of twenty-one parunletevs allows the accurate reproduction of enthalpy data for both phases, the heat of mixing- for y, the a/y equilibrinm compositions in the Fe-Ni phase diagram, and the usually accepted enthalpy and entropy of a and y iron. Also obtaitzed are fuirly accurate reproductions of electronic specific heat coefficients predicted from electron- to-atom ratio interpolations and To temperatuves eslimanted from transformation studies. Also considered in the calculation are the elastic constants, Curie temperatures, saturation magnlelizalion values, and indications of short- range order. The measnred activity coefficient of iron in anstetnite could not be accurately matched. The major source of uncertainty in the model is thought to be the magnetic contribution to the entropy of austenite. Calcrclations were extended to Fe-ni-C alloys using available carbon-acliuity data. The free energy of transformation from martensile to r at fixed composition was obtained as a function of nickel and carbon contetzt, and binary thetal-carbon phase diagrams Were estimaled as a function of nickel contenl. We needed thermodynamic information for Fe-Ni and Fe-Ni-C alloys at temperatures between 400" and 800°K in order to interpret the results of several phase-transformation studies. The most recent theoretical analysis of the thermodynamics of Fe-Nialloysl was based on a lumped-parameter, regular-solution model and used the Fe-Ni phase diagram available at that time.' Because significant difficulties were encountered in attempting to extend this analysis to Fe-Ni-C alloys, and because more experimental data has become available recently, we decided to attempt a new correlation. The analysis used here allows the extrapolation of measured and calculated thermodynamic values to lower temperatures and the extension of the thermodynamic analysis to Fe-Ni-C alloys. The structure of this correlation consists of expressions containing a total of twenty-one adjustable parameters. The forms of these expressions are discussed in the next section; however, a less formal summary is presented now to provide a physical overview of the model and to indicate its connections to prior work. Primary input information for this correlation is described below. The measured values of the specific heat of iron3 and its analysis475 and theoretical estimates of the specific heat of y* iron at low tempera- loys at 1123°K has been measured by solution calori-metry.7 The enthalpies of both a, and y have been measured most recently by Scheil and Saftig,B who used a dry-ice calorimeter. These data are used to formulate expressions for the heat of mixing of y and the heat of transformation of a, to y both at 1123°K. The a and y solubility limits in the Fe-Ni phase diagram have been redetermined recently9 by methods which assure a close approach to equilibrium. The a to y transformation can occur without change in nickel content or free energy at a temperature called TO; TO temperatures for various nickel contents have been estimated from transformation studies. The computed free-energy functions are adjusted by means of the parameters to fit both the phase diagram and the TO temperatures. Primary emphasis is placed on the phase diagram fit. Iron activities have been measured in Fe-Ni austenite10 between 973" and 1173°K. These activity data, which cannot be fitted accurately with our model, indicate that iron is substantially ideal in iron-rich austenite. Secondary, but helpful, information for the present correlation is provided by neutron diffraction and saturation magnetization measurements on both body-centered and face-centered Fe-Ni alloys."-'3 These results were interpreted11 in terms of composition-insensitive, localized magnetic moments on both iron

While the advantages in the use of high-line siliceous slags in lead smelting which Mr. Bretherton discusses in this paper are obvious under certain economical conditions, he gives me credit for the introduction of such slags when it does not belong to me. It is true I did considerable experimental work, off and on, for the purpose of finding such slags, while at the Germania in 1877 and 1878, but I did not have occasion to introduce any such slags for regular work, because I had no ores which fitted the economical conditions for using high silica and high lime, except in isolated cases for very brief periods. On the contrary, the ores I had to treat were mostly very ferruginous and very low in silica, so that, economically, I was compelled to run nearly always on slags, which allowed me to use the abundant flux I had without cost. It was August Raht who first had occasion to establish and use for long periods a slag high in silica and line, and low in iron. This was when he was confronted with the task of smelting the. Horn-Silver ores at the smelting works at Franklin, Utah, with as little expenditure for fluxing material as possible. I was at that time in Leadville, Col., where, in the new works I had built, the Billings and Eilers smelters, I had occasion to use profitably many slags, but never anything as high in the earthy bases and in silica as Mr. Raht had to use.

The coal lands that the Nemacolin mine is to develop embrace over 8400 acres; the tract is oblong and its eastern edge is along the Monon-gahela river. As shown in Fig. 1, the mine is divided into two parts (the North mine and the South mine) by a 150-ft. barrier, which however, is cut through at intervals by haulageways. Each part is fed from seven main entries—a loaded track, an empty, a manway, and four return air courses. The loaded tracks converge at the shaft bottom but the empty roads maintain their identity throughout their length. With three intakes and four returns on either side, there is ample room for expansion of air and every facility for ventilating is provided. The four south air courses converge into two, crossing the shaft bottom, and then into one at the south side of the air shaft. The four north air courses converge in a similar manner on the west side of the same shaft. This convergence is accomplished by concrete arched
