The heap leaching of oxide copper ores with copper cathode recovery by solvent extraction and electrowinning is now well established as a low-cost method of copper recovery. The main purpose of this study was to extract copper from the copper low-grade oxide ore of Chodarchaei mine using column leaching. The copper oxide ore contained 1.1% Cu and 1.75% Fe. The mineralogical analysis indicated the malachite (Cu2(OH)2CO3) was mainly composed of oxidized phases. The sulfuric acid leaching experiments were performed under the laboratory conditions. The influence of several parameters on the course of the reaction such as particle size, acid concentration, flow rate, and time was examined. The optimum collective extraction of copper and iron was obtained at a particle size of +10-15 mm for a leaching duration of 3 days with sulfuric acid concentration of 100 gpl and using a flow rate of 2.5 cc/min. Under these conditions, the recovery of copper and iron were 98.54% and 41.99%, respectively. Keywords: column leaching, copper, iron, working diagram.

"Gravity and X-ray luminescent separation methods are generally used in processing of diamond ores. X-ray luminescent separators are applied for separation of diamonds from feed ore size fractions from 100 to 10-15 mm size and for final treatment of gravity concentrates over 1 mm size. Gravity separation machines used for diamond ores separation are heavy medium cyclones and pneumatic jigs. One of the most important parameters, to a large extent affecting diamonds recovery from ore, as well as processing costs and specific energy costs, is size of dumped final tailings. That was exactly the purpose of the studies, the results of which are described in this paper. The studies performed on different ores showed that in order to achieve high recovery results, it is necessary to dump heavy medium separation tailings below 3 mm size. Separation of final tailings of -6+1 mm size by jigging is also possible. However, with a view to exclude extra diamond losses, it is necessary to maintain jigging concentrate yield approximately at 25% from starting feed, with its subsequent cleaning in heavy medium cyclones. In addition to that, it is necessary to separate 20-25% of middling with diamonds content at feed ore level and subject it to grinding. This will complicate flow sheet, but reduce load on heavy medium cyclones. In order to develop optimal flow sheet for gravity concentration of a specific diamond ore, large-scale investigations are required, including technical-and-economic assessment of separation alternatives. INTRODUCTION In processing of diamond ores, gravity and X-ray luminescent separation methods are generally used. It is common practice to apply X-ray luminescent separators for separation of diamonds from feed ore size fractions from 50 (100) to 20 (10) mm size and for final treatment of gravity concentrates over 1 mm size. With that, X-ray luminescent separation tailings larger than 3-6 mm size are reground and delivered to gravity concentration processing stage. Middling products circulation volumes are large, not infrequently necessitating decrease in concentrating plants capacity, especially with mining in deep workings of deposits, where ore strength is higher (Goryachev, 2010; Vaginov, 2000; William, 1988). Diamond ores preparation before processing is accomplished by means of roll-screw crushers and autogenous grinding mills, minimizing probability of free diamonds damage in liberation from barren rock. In re-crushing of size fractions that are “difficult” in autogenous grinding, high pressure grinding rollers are applied (Burchardt, 2014; Fedotov, 2011a, 2006b)."

Processing of dolomitic phosphate ores remains one of the most challenging problems in phosphate ore beneficiation. The beneficiation plant at Jhamarkotra in Rajasthan, India for example is currently using a conventional double stage flotation process which involves first a fatty acids flotation to produce a combined dolomite-apatite concentrate (bulk concentrate) from associated silicate gangue. Dolomite is then separated from this bulk concentrate by flotation with fatty acids collectors and depressing apatite with phosphoric acid and sulphuric acid. This process requires addition of large dosages of reagents (H3PO4 and H2SO4) to depress apatite and to maintain highly acidic pH during flotation. Furthermore several cleaning and scavenging stages are needed to obtain the product of desired quality. We have developed and employed a molecular modelling based methodology of designing selective reagents for apatite-dolomite separation. We have been able to take into ac-count the differences in the distribution of calcium cations on these two surfaces in our design and hence develop novel phosphonic acid based depressants for apatite-dolomite separation with con-ventional fatty acids as flotation collectors. We have demonstrated the utility and power of molecular modelling based reagents design approach through this work on beneficiation of Jhamarkotra dolomitic phosphate ore using our novel phosphonic acids based depressants at pH?s close to natural pH. It was possible to reduce the MgO content of the ore from as high as 13.3 % to 1.5% in a single stage flotation. Our flotation separation results on Jhamarkotra ore with these new phosphonic acids based tailor-made depressants for apatite-dolomite flotation separation are discussed in this paper along with results of corresponding molecular modelling computations on the same system.

"The research aimed at improving the way screen performance analysis is conducted using a model that accounts for most feed and design parameters in its formulation. Thus, the aim was to validate the fine screen model that was developed at the Centre for Minerals Research (CMR) unit at the University of Cape Town. Fine wet screening is increasingly becoming an important application in fine grinding operations. Minera Saucito, a lead-zinc Mexican mine has replaced hydrocyclones with eight stacks of five decker derrick screens to close the ball mill in their concentrator plant. The five decker stacks have improved the overall plant throughput by 20% and have had the ball mill circulating load reduced considerably. As a continuous plant optimization process, a number of surveys were carried out to assess the performance of the 75 µm panel aperture installed screens. The surveys were conducted at seven different feed rates to the entire nest of screens to collect performance data. Using the fine screen model to analyze the results, it is found that as the feed rate increase, the sharpness of separation reduces. The CMR fine screen model was fitted to these results. The model fits the plant data with good accuracy. Simulated results based on this model are also presented.INTRODUCTION The potential of high frequency vibrating screens has long been identified as an alternative to hydrocyclones in grinding applications (Rogers and Brame, 1985). However, high frequency vibrating screens have had two main disadvantages, low capacity and high wear rates (Kelley and Mckeon, 2005; Teknikk, 2009). Current vibrating screen technology overcomes these challenges by multiple deck screen design and use of wear resistant urethane materials for panel construction (Kelley, 2007; Valine and Wennen, 2002). For a example, the Derrick screen’s material of construction is a tensionable urethane that provide high open area ranging between 35 to 45% with considerably reduced blinding (Valine and Wennen, 2002). Thus, there has been an increased uptake by the mining industry in the use of wet fine vibrating screens closing the ball mill as the final classification stage in the comminution circuit (Barkhuysen et al., 2010; Frausto, Ballantyne et al. 2017; Pelevin and Lazebnaya, 2009; Teknikk, 2009). Even though there is a number of models in existence, none of these models adequately predict the performance of high frequency vibrating screens (Karra, 1979; Rogers, 1982; Subasinghe et al., 1990; Trumic and Magdalinovic, 2011). Recently Mwale et al., (2016) developed a model for predicting the performance of high frequency vibrating screens using the partition curve properties. The input parameters of the model include screen open area (??) in m2, tonnage feed rate (????) (tph) and the weight fraction of solids (??) in the feed for a given panel aperture size. The model was developed based on data collected from a single deck industrial size derrick screen, in a pilot setup. The work presented in this paper is an attempt to test this model using data collected from Minera Saucito concentrator, an industrial plant whose comminution circuit is shown in Figure."

Calcium sulfate whiskers are considered to be a prosperous reinforced material in application due to their high mechanical properties. But the hydration occurs easily at moist atmosphere or in aqueous solution. The surface topographies of the calcium sulfate hemihydrate whiskers and the hydrates were analyzed by on-line observation and using XRD. The results indicated the transformation of the crystal type and shape of calcium sulfate hemihydrate whiskers and the reduction of whiskers? aspect ratio. The hydration process of the calcium sulfate hemihydrate whiskers and the effective parameters were further discussed based on FT-IR measurements. The conclusions were obtained that the hydration of calcium sulfate hemihydrate whiskers can be divided into the three phases, namely, initial hemihydration phase, dehydration phase, and coarsening, dissolving and the re-formation of calcium sulfate dehydrate crystal phase. In addition, it was found that in the hydration process of calcium sulfate hemihydrate whiskers the calcium sulfate dihydrate whiskers are formed at first and then converted into the calcium sulfate dihydrate with different crystal shapes, but in the hydration of gypsum hemihydrate the gypsum dihydrate is formed without transition products. The surface active site-calcium ion which has strong trend to react with H2O, the surface ?OH and the inner channels are considered to play important roles in the hydration process of calcium sulfate hemihydrate whiskers.

This paper describes, in detail, results obtained from a research study of a complex iron ore aiming to produce a pellet feed concentrate with at least 65% of Fe and less than 3.5% of SiO2 in the final concentrate. The work includes an ore desliming followed by column flotation at laboratory scale. The ore sample was from Carajás province - Brazil and represents a complex low grade compact itabirite ore, analyzing 35.9% Fe, 45.1% SiO2 and 0.57% of Al2O3. Yet, the feed was treated previously by magnetic separation and grounded to 97% < 20 µm; this sample was named MAG 2. The chemical and mineralogical characterization of the MAG 2 sample showed that Fe and SiO2 grades were 50.7% and 24.3% respectively and was composed mainly by hematite, goethite and quartz. The particle size distribution, using a laser diffraction technique, showed that 90% of the particles were < 18 µm; 50% less than 8 µm and 10% minor than 1 µm. When the cationic reverse flotation without desliming was tested the selectivity of the process was very low and did not meet the concentrate metallurgical goals of the pellet feed product. However, when desliming was applied prior to flotation, a concentrate product with chemical characteristics of the pellet feed was obtained. The best results after desliming and column flotation achieved global iron metallurgical recovery of 72% with Fe grade in the concentrate of 66.5% and 2.1% SiO2 using starch as depressant for the iron oxides minerals at 1200 g/t ? 1500 g/t and an amine as the quartz collector at 100 g/t concentration (pH constant, at 10.5). It is believed that the desliming stage was key in the separation of the iron bearing particles and has a high potential for the flotation process of this type of ores.

Professor A.M. Gaudin and his students at MIT were dedicated to understanding the fundamentals of mineral processing and as a consequence were constantly searching for better quantatative descriptions of size reduction, liberation and mineral separations. I have had the good fortune of meeting Professor Gaudin and working with many the modeling pioneers who followed him. I have observed first hand the refinement of mineral processing models as they increased in realisticness moving up the steps of the pyramid (see figure below) from pure empiricism to the current pinacle of physics based models. During this journey our industry benefited significanbtly as model prediction errors were reduced from ± 20% to ± 1%. Unit operation and plant simulations improved in accuracy and speed of calculations.

During Zijinshan copper heap bioleaching, pyrite was leached in plenty resulting in high ferric concentration in solution. It has affected bioleaching and extraction processing greatly. It results much acid and iron in solution and bad effect to extraction processing. The paper studied the influence factors in the course of pyrite leaching and ferric ion chemical oxidation, especially studied the redox potential for copper bioleaching so as to find key factors affecting the dissolution difference between chalcocite and pyrite. The results show that the redox potential is important factor. Copper and pyrite leaching rates are 95% and 11% respectively and there is great dissolution difference between them at redox potential 700 mV (SHE). During pyrite bioleaching, the indirect action of bacteria gives priority to bioleaching cooperating with the direct attack of microbial cells attached to the mineral surface. Redox potential is determined by ratio of ferric and ferrous, ferric in solution was supplied by the way of oxidation of T. f bacteria, sufficient bacteria concentration and active character were two vial factors of controlling redox potential. It is indicated that copper can be selectively bioleached during copper bioleaching by controlling redox potential of bioleaching. The conclusion will provide theoretic foundation on balance of acid and iron during bioleaching for copper of higher S/Cu ratio. The experinment proved that bacteria activation was decreased on condition of both low pH value and intermittent aeratation during bioleaching. It resulted that the oxidation velocity of ferrous ion was decreased and redox potential was controlled. The dissolution of pyrite was depressed. It would be possible to actualize selective leaching of secondary sulfide copper ore during bioleaching process.

"INTRODUCTIONThe objective of this work was to deport silver into a residue suitable for subsequent extraction without compromising the high base metal extraction during the pressure oxidation.RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONThe complex sulphide from the tailing pond of Cannington mine, Australia, was re-grounded and a bulk concentrate was recovered by flotation. The major economic sulphides are galena and sphalerite. The chemical analyses revealed 17.22% Fe; 4.88% Zn; 8.22% Pb; 9.49% S2- and 422 g/t Ag. The baseline cyanidation yielded 36.60% of silver at high cyanide consumption (24.17 kg/t NaCN). Pressure oxidation at 150°C (in the absence of iodide), followed by cyanidation of the residue yielded 8% silver extraction. Pressure oxidation was carried out at 110-150°C in sulphate media with additions of potassium iodide and the resulting residue was subjected to cyanidation. High recovery of silver was achieved because its incorporation into lead-hydronium jarosite during the pressure oxidation was minimised, while its deportment into the cyanide-soluble silver iodide was favoured (Figure 1). Silver recovery decreased slightly at high temperatures (140° and 150°C) because of the enhanced stability and kinetics of leadhydronium jarosite, but this could be overcome by increasing acidity and iodide concentration of the slurry."

The nitrate content is an important factor for environmental water samples and flour. In a 0.35 mol/L H2SO4-2NO solution, has a strong catalyzing function on the decolourization of Gallocya-nine (GC) oxidated by NaBrO3. Based on this, a novel method was developed to measure the NO and -3NO concentrations in water and flour. The flow injection technology was introduced into the analysis system. A single-valve dual- cingulums to inject which the Copperized-Cadmium slice and the reduction zone are isolated. The optimum solution for this method contains 1.48×10-4 mol/L GC, 0.06 mol /L NaBrO3 and 0.2 mol /L of NH4-2NOCl. Two empirical equations were proposed to calculate the and -3NO concentrations based on the measured signals. It can be used to measure -2NO of from 0.001 mg / L to 2.0 mg/L and -3NO of from 0.002 mg / L to 2.5 mg/L. The measurement frequency can be up to 20 samples / h. The relative standard deviation for eleven samples is less than 5%.

Iron ore concentrate contains different mineral phases viz. hematite, magnetite, goethite, kaolinite, and gibbsite. Presence of some of these phases like goethite, kaolinite, and gibbsite contribute to the loss on ignition (LOI) content of the sample. Iron ore fines (pellet feed) are pelletized for utilization in DRI & BF processes. In the present pelletization technology i.e., straight grate and grate kiln processes, the LOI in the ore should be within the range of 2.0-2.5%. LOI content in the iron ore concentrate is found to be more than 4% after beneficiation of low-grade iron ore. It is therefore difficult to produce good quality pellet because of high LOI content. The LOI content of the sample is a detrimental factor in the pellet making. For effective pelletization, the LOI content in iron ore fines needs to be reduced before pelletization. It can be reduced by fluidized bed roasting. The objective of present work is to understand the kinetics of removal of LOI from iron ore fines. The effects of bed depth, temperature, and residence time on reduction of LOI content in iron ore fines were studied using muffle furnace. The process of roasting was carried out at four different temperatures varying from 400 to 950 °C with a variable residence time of 30, 45, 60 & 75 minutes and at bed depths of 16, 32, 48 & 64 mm. In all instance of experiments carried out, one of the parameters was kept constant. It was observed that at 850 °C and 30 minutes of residence time, there was sufficient removal of LOI in static bed condition even at a high bed depth of 64 mm. The introduction and subsequent ascendancy of autogenous and semi-autogenous milling for comminution circuits has undoubtedly lead to many economic advantages. From a process viewpoint, however, at least one downside has been the sensitivity of these machines to process input variations. Foremost among these is ore competence, though feed size comes a close second. This sensitivity is due to the reliance of ag/sag mills on the feed ore for their grinding media competence and size. Autogenous (ag) mills are the most sensitive in this respect with semi-autogenous (sag) mills being increasingly less so as the ball charge is increased. Increasingly designers and operators are recognising the importance of feed size and the benefits of manipulating it to improve performance. This has been achieved by installing additional crushing/screening capacity ahead of the ag/sag, better operation of the primary crusher, better control of segregation cased by stockpiles and bins and by changing blast design/practices to modify the ROM size distribution. This paper describes the influence of feed size distribution on ag/sag mill performance with reference to a range of plant data. It particularly concentrates on how changing blasting practice to modify ag/sag feed size can have a considerable overall benefit.

"Presently, there is a number of gold deposits which cannot be developed using the conventional technologies with acceptable economic indices due to low gold content, high depth of ore occurence and other conditions. For such ores, an innovation technology of underground gold leaching in the place of their occurrence is of special interest. The technology excludes ore mining and hoisting to the surface. This enables the production cost of 1 g of gold to be considerably reduced in comparison with conventional methods of gold recovery.The Maminskoye deposit oxidized ores were chosen as the subject of underground leaching because they are ideally suited for this purpose due to their composition and hydrological parameters. The ore reserves within the underground leaching block are 90, 000 t with 0.7 g/t average gold grade.An experimental system for underground leaching with a throughput of 15 cubic m solutions per hour was developed. A combined filtration-and-infiltration system of the ore massif development by holedrillingwhere pregnant solutions are air-lifted was worked out.The underground leaching flowsheet includes Au dissolution by chlorine-containing solutions, Au adsorption from solution onto active carbon, carbon concentrate ashing and calcine melting to produce Dore metal."

"Traditionally, the implementation of an automated advanced process controller in any mineral processing complex is a challenge, mainly due to the quality of resources and technologies required, the uniqueness of each control solution and the uncertainty of the engineering hours needed to complete the task. Thus, the use of advanced and proven control technology becomes a key factor when deploying the control strategy. However, success would still not be possible without the presence of common sense, process knowledge and fundamental process data. Minera Los Pelambres, taking advantage of such factors and its accumulated process experience, implemented a novel and successful combination of MPC (Multivariable Predictive Control) and advanced control for secondary grinding and regrinding stages at its copper concentrator plant. In both cases, the control objectives are: being capable of processing a variable feed from the upstream process while at the same time avoiding to become a process bottle neck and yet, maintaining an adequate product quality (in terms of size distribution) to the process downstream. Additionally, for the case of the vertical regrinding mill (vertimill), the control system should also be capable of keeping an adequate circulation load and making an efficient use of the available grinding power. In either case, extending hidrocyclones availability while maintaining their performance is a must, since both factors are required for process and maintenance purposes. Thus, the process control problem becomes one with a multi-variable type of process with multiple control objectives to satisfy simultaneously. In trying to solve it, many mineral processing operations have implemented basic or conventional control or even better yet, expert systems. Minera Los Pelambres believes that better and faster results can be achieved using a combination of MPC and advanced control. Such strategy was successfully implemented, reducing considerably process variability while maintaining high throughput and keeping the process well within constraints limits. Their control philosophy, implementation process, main results and their key performance indicators are discussed here."

"Hydrothermal syntheses of zeolite from coal fly ash were carried out by using various alkali sources. NaOH, Na2CO3, KOH, K2CO3 and their mixture were applied for an alkali source of zeolite synthesis. The various physical properties of the reaction product, such as the kind of zeolite crystal, cation exchange property, surface texture and so on, was investigated through the zeolitization reaction from fly ash. The mechanism of zeolitization reaction was considered from these results.Zeolite P(NaP), hydroxysodalite(HS) and chabazite(K-CHA) are synthesized as zeolite species, when fly ash hydrothermally reacts in various alkali solutions at 393K. The crystal structure of the products obtained in NaOH solutions for 3h changes from NaP to HS with increasing NaOH concentration. K-CHA formation in KOH solutions needs 10h of reaction time, which is longer than that of NaP or HS.Dissolution, condensation and crystallization steps exist in the zeolitization reaction from fly ash, and the particle surface of products remarkably changes in each step. The fly ash is spherical particles and the surface is smooth(Fig.1(a)). The dissolution of fly ash occurs in the heating process until 393K, and the particle surface changes like unevenness(Fig.1(b)). In case of NaP, the condensation of aluminosilicate ions takes place at 373-393K, and the amorphous aluminosilicate is deposit on the unreacted fly ash(Fig.1(c)). The crystallization of NaP already begins to occur at 393K and the surface is covered with fine zeolite crystals for 24h(Fig.1(d))."

"Nickel is an important metal with the total global consumption of about 2 million tons per year. It is sourced from both sulfide and laterite ore, but currently laterites are becoming more attractive for nickel production due to the depletion of high grade nickel sulfide ores. Laterites are generally processed by hydro or pyro-metallurgy and therefore, pre-concentration of nickel before such processes is very important. In this paper the effect different physical methods (including flotation) on the pre-concentration of nickel in laterite ores will be discussed. The ore used in this study was a laterite from South East Asia. Nickel was upgraded using different methods such as magnetic separation, flotation and sizing. The effect of ore mineralogy on choosing the best strategy to upgrade nickel will be discussed. The findings of this project will help to unlock a substantial volume of nickel with significant value from laterite ores.INTRODUCTION Nickel is an important metal with the total global consumption of about million tons per year which has grown rapidly during last decades (Mackey, 2011). Nickel is sourced from two different types of ores, sulfide and laterite. The majority (about 70%) of the world’s nickel resources occur as laterite ores which are often complex, and low grade, and therefore expensive to treat using conventional methods (Xu et al., 2013). Today, nickel laterites are more attractive for production of nickel as the amount of high grade nickel sulfide ores has diminished (Janwong, 2012). Therefore more economic processes to recover nickel from these resources should be developed.It should be noted that nickel laterite mineralogy is complex, and nickel often presents as ultrafine inclusions in a number of mineral phases. Because of the low nickel concentration and variable distribution in these phases, effective upgrading by physical separation processes would be challenging. Researchers have tried to improve nickel laterite flotation recovery by using a number of feed preparation techniques. A summary of the nickel grades obtained using flotation and magnetic separation as reported in the literature is presented in Table 1. It can be seen that only minor nickel upgrades have been reported. Quast et al. (2015) have concluded that the complex mineralogy of nickel laterite ores makes it difficult to achieve any significant nickel upgrading by physical techniques, including flotation. They achieved 40% increase in the nickel content (from 1.0% to 1.4%) at a nickel recovery of 43% (Quast et al., 2015). Various attempts in USA, New Caledonia, India and Australia, to upgrade nickel in laterite using magnetic separation have not been successful (Quast et al., 2015). A recent comprehensive review on topics influencing nickel laterite flotation has shown that further investigations in the flotation of laterite ores are undoubtedly warranted (Farrokhpay & Filippov, 2016)."

"Materials being the feed to mineral dressing plants are the mixture of ore minerals having different physicochemical properties among others, especially susceptibility on crumbling. During exploitation of material and their preparation to communition the big number of narrow classes comes into being and they have different properties. The determination of common communition laws of multicomponent (on account of size and mineralogy) materials leads to the estimation of mutual influence of narrow classes and their rates, taking into account their endurance and mineral density, on general ratios and their simultaneous crumbling.If we try to accept the grain membership to the certain component as the differing feature, we can write the balance equation as: ( ) ( ) S= = k i i i g x p f x1where: fi – density functions of one type distribution and of different statistical moments (characterising the homogeneous materials grinding), pi – “stirring” proportions of each components, S== k i i p 1 1 . From the point of verification view of detailed versions of this equation the inverse operation should be done: in the base of the components’ mixture grinding results and the results of components grinding the legitimacy of equation should be checked.The using of finished distribution mixtures’ theories to the grinding process analysis allows, first of all, to verify the assumption of grinding independence of individual feed components. Talking more generally it would lead to the comparison of grain size distributions, obtained by individual components grinding from the defined in the mixture distributions theory calculations. High grade ore deposits in the world are fast depleting and the valuables in the low-grade ores are finely disseminated. The feed grade to flotation circuit is also declining. Attainment of suitable grind is preferred, which inevitably creates more fines of the gangue minerals to interfere with the flotation process because of the undue competition between the fines and the valuables for the collector ion adsorption. Besides the use of polymeric or long chain hydrocarbon depressants for the gangue mineral, microbial induced flotation also has potential to float minerals selectively. Thiobacillus ferroxidans and Thiobacillus thiooxidans adhere on the minerals to modify its surface properties and affect the minerals flotation acting as depressants. Hindustan Zinc has conducted laboratory studies to understand the adhesion of microorganism on the mineral surfaces and its impact on the selective flotation. The experiments were further designed to reduce consumption of depressing reagents for graphitic carbon, pyrite, and galena. Preliminary studies reveal that desired quality of concentrate can be achieved with reasonable recovery. As one of the key inorganic chemical industries, the chromate chemical industry has spawned extensively public concerns due to the resulted environmental pollution. The cleaner production technology for chromium compounds bases on sub-molten salt medium developed by the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences has greatly decreased the reaction temperature and energy consumption, significantly in-creased the utilization ratio of the chromium element, and successfully achieved the comprehensive utilization of chromite resources and zero emission of chromium-containing residue. The separation process of production is the most important components in the cleaner technology. In this work, we studied two parts: the first is the removal of SiO2, Al3+ from the system and the recycling utilization of alkali metal medium through adding Ca(OH)2 and CaO; the second is to get more pure K2CrO4 crystalloid and remove K2CO3 from KOH solution through evaporation to prepare raw material for manufacturing Cr2O3 and get 50%(wt) KOH. The results obtained show that Ca(OH)2 can remove Al3+ more than CaO and has lower caustic ratio than CaO when they were added 110% of theoretic quantity. The optimal pure K2CrO4(96%) can be gained at 45 Celsius degree in 30% KOH solution and K2CO3 in 50% KOH solution could be decreased to 3.5%(wt) at 40 Celsius degree. And then K2CO3 can be causticized with adding Ca(OH)2 to recycle potassium alkali. The impure material can be re-moved and suitable raw material for manufacturing Cr2O3 can be gotten and reaction medium can be also recycled in this process technology, realizing cleaner production effectively.

Although the cyanidation process for gold leaching has been applied for more than a hundred years, some aspects of it, such as the passivation of the gold and the depassivating action of heavy metals, are still not well understood. In this work the anodic behaviour and surface composition of gold in alkaline aqueous cyanide with lead additions were investigated using polarization experiments and XPS. It was found that lead in the solution activated the gold at low concentrations, somewhat more positive than the reversible potential for gold, but that the activity again decreased at higher concentrations of lead. The potential range for the activation of the gold coincides with that where underpotential deposition of lead occurs, i.e. –200 to –600 mV(SCE), as indicated by the surface composition of the gold, shown in figure 1. Note that the concentration of lead on the surface of the gold only increased with time in the bulk plating potential range for lead, where gold is not activated by the presence of lead. It is also shown that up to 20 mg/L of lead added to the solution will activate the gold, provided that bulk plating of the lead is avoided. It is also important to avoid reducing conditions during leaching, where bulk plating of lead may occur, if the gold is to be activated by lead to achieve a high leaching rate, as the bulk plated lead screens the surface rather than activating it.
