"In this article research on the mineralogical characteristics and beneficiation process for a copper molybdenum deposits in Heilongjiang province of China has been carried out. Chemical analysis, X-ray diffraction(XRD) and Quantitative Evaluation of Minerals by SCANning electron microscopy (QEMSCAN) were conducted on samples. The bulk analysis results showed that: (1) Comprehensive recovery and separation of molybdenum & copper minerals was feasible by the flowsheet of first copper-molybdenum mixed flotation after grinding the ore samples to 61.88% -74µm and then separation flotation of copper and molybdenum after regrinding the Cu-Mo mixed concentrate to 83.26% -38 µm. The results highlight relationship between mineralogical characteristics of ore and comprehensive benefication method. (2) the combination of "" Sodium sulphide and sodium thioglycolate "" reagents are effective inhibitors of copper-molybdenum mixed concentrate, their selectivity performance is better than that of single reagent. Good flotation indexes were gained that might be directive experience to similar cases. KEYWORDS Mineralogical characteristics; molybdenite; chalcopyrite; flotation separation; inhibitor INTRODUCTION Copper and molybdenum metals are widely used in the field of metallurgy, aerospace, national defence, etc. Copper –molybdenum sulphide ore is an important source of copper and molybdenum metals. At present flotation is still the preferred methods to deal with the copper-molybdenum sulphide minerals (Yin, Z., Sun, W.et al. 2017; Ansari, A., & Pawlik, M. 2007; Hirajima, T., Miki, et al. 2017). Copper and molybdenum sulphide ores usually have the similarly good nature floatability(Miki, H., Matsuoka, et al. 2017), meanwhile most molybdenum sulphide ore has tiny grained-size(Castro, S., & Laskowski, J. S. 2015.) and closed relationship with other sulphide and gangue minerals which result in the coper and molybdenum separation problem. Base on the nature of the ore and flotation properties of the individual minerals contained in the ore, there are two methods are usually used to deal with the copper – molybdenum ore, including bulk molybdenum/copper flotation followed by separation of copper and molybdenum minerals, sequential molybdenum/ copper flotation(Liu, G. Y., Lu, et al. 2012). The latter method has the shortcoming of hard to activate the depressed copper minerals in the previous molybdenum flotation process, which may result in a large loss of the copper from concentrate, this disadvantage would avoid while adopting the former method. bulk flotation followed by separation process is to get the copper-molybdenum concentrate from raw ore first then separate flotation the molybdenum and copper minerals, benefit from the excellent floatability of both molybdenum and copper minerals ( Malhotra, D., Rowe, R. M., & Bhasin, A. K. 1986; Cao, Z., Yue, et al. 2017 ), it really easy to obtain the mixed concentrate. In order to get the high quality copper and molybdenum concentrate, the key technologies and difficulties are to realize the separation of the copper and molybdenum minerals which have the very similar natural floatability (Raghavan, S., & Hsu, L. L. 2015; Nakhaei, F. 2014)."

"There are increasingly stricter environmental regulations imposed for use of cyanide leaching for the extraction of gold from ores. Alternative lixiviants to cyanide, preferably with low toxicity, have been extensively studied. Thiosulphate has emerged as one of the most suitable alternative leaching agent in place of cyanide due to its low toxicity and technical attributes e.g. fast leaching kinetics, high gold extractions from carbonaceous ores in particular. High solubility of most copper minerals in cyanide solutions results in low gold extractions due to excessively high consumption of cyanide. In contrast, low reactivity of copper minerals in thiosulphate solutions makes thiosulphate leaching potentially suitable alternative for treatment Cu-bearing gold ores. The extraction of gold/silver from a copper-bearing pyritic gold concentrate (62 g/t Au, 110 g/t Ag and 0.3% Cu) in thiosulphate solutions was investigated in this study. The concentrate is composed of predominantly quartz (25%) and pyrite (32.7%) as well as sphalerite (5.37%), galena (2.12%) and anglesite (1.13%). Other minor minerals are arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite, covellite and bournonite. Previous studies by the authors indicated that the concentrate did not respond well to cyanide leaching (i.e. 45-46% Au/Ag at 1 g/L NaCN). The effects of concentration of ammonia (0.2-1.5 M NH3), thiosulphate (0.1-0.75 M S2O3) and copper (0-20 mM CuSO4) on the extraction of gold and silver over 8 h. was investigated. Increasing the concentration of thiosulphate and ammonia substantially improved the rate and extent of gold leaching while high copper levels produced an adverse effect particularly at low concentration of thiosulphate (i.e. 0.1 M). Complete extraction of gold was achieved under suitable conditions. In contrast to gold, silver extractions remained consistently at low levels (i.e. 28%). These findings demonstrated that thiosulphate leaching could be used to achieve acceptable levels of gold extraction from the copper-bearing pyritic gold concentrate."

"Pre-treatment of mill feed in a minerals processing plant enables for higher production efficiency per ton of product, reduction of consumables and diverting mineral feed types. Sensor based particle sorting allows for pre-concentration of the run-of-mine (ROM) material prior to other concentrating process. Various sensors provide different responses from the minerals in measured particles. The capability of “accepting” or “rejecting” particles based on sensor responses is investigated in specific test work for each project. Modern sorting machines use pneumatic actuators to divert the reject particles from the material stream. This paper discusses the incorporation of ore sorting test work in processing and plant design. When taking the effects of a sorting circuit into account early in the process planning phase, the downstream process can be adequately sized and impacts evaluated. Potential benefits include but are not limited to increased head grade, lower tonnage to the mill, increased mining operations, removal of deleterious elements and changed properties in the process feed. In a case study we present the Keliber lithium project in central Finland. The plant will produce 9000 tons of lithium carbonate per year from a spodumene ore. Ore sorting and flotation tests were carried out in laboratory and pilot scale. Process models were designed and simulations performed using Outotec’s HSC Chemistry Simulation software. Changes in the flotation performance (grade, recovery, impurity levels) were simulated with and without the pre-concentration of the ROM material. The metallurgical performance and mine economics of the different operational scenarios were evaluated using the Ore-Met optimizer module of the simulation software.INTRODUCTION Challenges in the recent years such as declining ore grades, increasing energy prices, scarcity of water and increasing environmental regulations raise the demand for more efficient processing technologies. Sensor based sorting offers a method for pre-concentration or waste rejection at an early process stage. The technology analyzes each rock particle separately for their unique physical and chemical properties, and diverts the particles into separate material streams by high pressure air jets. Successful implementation relies on ore heterogeneity, differential sensor response and suitable feed preparation."

"Froth flotation is the most widely used mineral separation technique. It is based on the relative hydrophobicity of valuable and gangue particles. In a flotation tank, two distinct zones can be identified: the pulp and the froth. The pulp is a turbulent region in which hydrophobic valuable particles attach to air bubbles while hydrophilic gangue particles remain in the slurry. As the particle-laden bubbles rise, a mineralised froth zone is formed that overflows as a concentrate. Although the process is more than a hundred years old, there remain many aspects that are not completely understood, particularly for the froth zone. Thus, the rules governing the design of flotation tanks tend to focus on pulp zone parameters, which are largely based on operating data. An example of this is the design and operation of impellers. These tend to be designed paying attention to hydrodynamic phenomena in the pulp zone, but their effect on the froth zone has not been completely addressed. The role of impellers in a flotation tank is to break the air bubbles in order to generate smaller ones and to provide an environment that enables the collision between those bubbles and the particles in the slurry. This usually creates turbulent regimes that can affect the pulp-froth interface, destabilising the lower regions of the froth and affecting the overall performance of the process. Different impeller designs and retrofit modifications have been proposed in the past, addressing some of those issues. However, there is no systematic study of the effect of different impeller designs on the bubble size in the pulp and its links to the stability of the froth. This work tested the impact of an impeller designs combined with the use of a stator on the performance of an 87 litres continuously operated laboratory-scale flotation tank, with a focus on bubble size in the pulp and froth stability. The results showed that the implementation of a stator system decreased bubble size and increased froth stability. That resulted in an increase of mass pull, measured as a proxy of metallurgical recovery."

"The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has recently developed a series of validated models utilizing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to study the effects of air-blocking shelves on airflows and respirable dust distribution associated with medium-sized surface blasthole drill shrouds as part of a dry dust collector system. Using validated CFD models, three different air-blocking shelves were included in this study: a 15.2-cm (6-in.) wide shelf; a 7.6-cm (3-in.) wide shelf; and a 7.6-cm (3-in.) wide shelf at four different shelf heights. In addition, the dust-collector-to-bailing airflow ratios of 1.75:1, 1.5:1, 1.25:1, and 1:1 were evaluated for the 15.2-cm (6-in.) wide air-blocking shelf. This paper describes the methodology used to develop the CFD models. The effects of air-blocking shelves and dust-collector-to-bailing airflow ratios were identified by the study, and problem regions were revealed under certain conditions. The simulation results could be used for future development of dust control methods, particularly to address respirable silica dust, for a surface mine blasthole drill shroud.INTRODUCTION Surface blasthole drilling can generate considerable amounts of respirable silica dust. These high dust concentrations can be exacerbated by the high silica content as drilling cuts through silica-bearing materials such as sandstone and shale, causing overexposures for miners to respirable silica dust. These overexposures can lead to silicosis, an occupational lung disease that has no cure and is often fatal. A review of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) respirable silica dust sample database from 2010 to 2016 for metal/nonmetal mining shows the following overexposure rates for occupations related to blasthole drilling: • 14.1% of rotary air drillers were overexposed to respirable silica dust (22 out of 156 samples) • 5.8% of rotary drillers were overexposed to respirable silica dust (9 out of 155 samples) • 7.3% of drill helpers were overexposed to respirable silica dust (3 out of 41 samples) • 7.5% of blaster/shotfirer were overexposed to respirable silica dust (3 out of 40 samples) Of significant interest is an x-ray surveillance study recently completed under the NIOSH Enhanced Coal Workers’ Health Surveillance Program (ECWHSP). This program offered free chest radiographs to surface coal miners in 16 states. Pneumoconiosis was found among 2.0% of the 2,328 screened miners with at least 1 year of mining tenure. Twelve miners had radiographic changes consistent with progressive massive fibrosis, and 9 of these 12 miners reported no underground mining tenure. All but 1 of the 9 miners worked at occupations that were in the vicinity of blasthole drilling, either as a driller, blaster, or blast crew member [1]."

"The characterization of reagent-mineral interactions in flotation systems of finely intergrown ores holds difficult challenges for the applicability of standard techniques like Hallimond tube tests and contact angle experiments or renders them impossible due to a lack of sufficient samples in terms of quality and quantity. This disadvantage may not apply to more sophisticated techniques, but these often do not work in an aqueous environment. We present the utilization of an atomic force microscope with a hydrophobic colloidal probe to characterize the wettabilities of individual mineral domains of an ore sample, while additional spectral information is gathered by Raman spectroscopy. The exemplary ore sample investigated is mainly containing cassiterite and quartz, therefore the reference measurements like Hallimond tube tests and contact angle experiments were carried out with this binary system as a comparison. The focus of the study lies in the correlation of data gathered by the atomic force microscope and the Raman spectrometer with data from standard techniques. Finally, the applicability of the colloidal probe atomic force microcopy technique for reagent-mineral investigations is critically evaluated.INTRODUCTIONThe focus of this paper is the application of colloidal probe atomic force microscopy (CP-AFM) for theinvestigation of reagent-mineral interactions on a binary system of cassiterite and quartz. This and similar concepts using hydrophobic AFM probes have been applied by multiple authors (Rudolph and Peuker, 2014a; Rudolph and Peuker, 2014b; Wada et al., 2017; Xie et al., 2017). The hydrophobic interaction is the main interacting mechanism for the hydrophobic colloidal probe with hydrophobic sample surfaces and the long range attractive component has been accounted to nanobubbles on the interacting surfaces (Yakubov et al., 2000). More detailed information on nanobubbles are available in two reviews compiled by Attard and Hampton (Attard, 2003; Hampton and Nguyen, 2010). This paper is based on the work by Rudolph and Peuker comparing different AFM based measuring concepts, additionally gathering data with Raman spectroscopy and correlating results of microflotation and CPAFM measurements (Rudolph and Peuker, 2014a; Rudolph and Peuker, 2014b)."

"Technology development and innovation has played a crucial role in the copper industry throughout history. The effective development and implementation of new technologies allows mankind to produce copper at progressively lower cost of production at a given feed grade and mineral type. This progress serves to counteract cost inflation/escalation over time and, depending on the magnitude of the cost benefit, allows ore cut off grades to be reduced thereby improving the availability, accessibility and utilization of resources. Two broad categories of technology development and innovation play a key role in this process: (i) incremental improvements and optimization of existing technology provide benefits in the near- to medium-term, and (ii) step change technologies provide value over the longer term. A key issue for potential developers and implementers of new step change technology is how to justify resource allocation and expenditures for such initiatives. This paper examines this issue with reference to specific case studies in the copper industry. INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND Technology development and innovation has played a crucial role in the commodity minerals industry throughout history, and none more important than the copper industry. As new, cost-efficient technologies are commercialized, the cost of production in real terms at a given ore feed grade and mineral type decreases. This progress enables ore cut off grades to be reduced allowing lower grade material to be processed economically, which in turn increases the availability and supply of the metal or mineral of interest. Cost inflation/escalation works in the opposite direction, squeezing margins for operations utilizing incumbent technology to process material from a given ore deposit. A prior review by the author considered the issue of technology development and sustainable competitive advantage. This review concluded that first movers and fast followers can achieve competitive advantage for periods of 10-15 years through effective deployment of new technologies (Marsden, 2004). A new, more comprehensive study and evaluation was completed in 2014. This paper presents a portion of the results from the 2014 study."

"Heavy metals contamination in aqueous systems can be found in a variety of industries, in particularly mining, metal processing, finishing and plating. Water containing more than 0.5 ppm heavy metal considered as a toxic due to harmful effects on health. The major techniques employed for heavy metal removal from industrial wastewaters include precipitation, reduction, ion-exchange, and adsorption. Adsorption is a heavy metal removal method for aqueous systems. As a common adsorbent, activated carbon has been used in treatment but it is ineffective on some elements. Thus, there has been a research for developing highly effective and selective adsorbents. In this study the adsorption of lead and arsenic ions on to coal waste and red mud waste was studied. The experimental parameters were determined as pH, equilibrium time and the initial concentrations, activation by heat treatment and the blend of adsorbents. According to their adsorption capabilities, red mud was found to adsorb lead and arsenic ion with high efficiency but coal waste did not adsorb arsenic ion. However the binary adsorptions of these ions were enhanced the adsorption efficiencies. In addition the blend of coal waste and red mud affected the adsorption efficiency. INTRODUCTION As a result of rapidly developing industry and excessive use of water resources, the need of clean water and wastewater management appear as a problem. Wastewater recycling activities and researches come to the fore for an effective use of wastewater. Recycling of wastewater, which contains heavy metals harmful to the environment and human, is a difficult process. Heavy metals are generally divided into three categories: toxic metals, precious metals, radionuclides. Wastewaters from various industries, containing heavy metals, are the main polluters of water and soil. Although their toxic structures, heavy metals are used extensively in industry as they have technological significance. Usually mining industry, metal industry and industrial organizations produce heavy metal containing wastewaters (Volesky 1990, Ting and Lawson 1991, Bishop 2002)."

The research is aimed at involving in the processing of poor platinummetal natural and technogenic raw materials. The purpose of the research is the creation of a multifactorial complex of innovations in the system of ore preparation and separation cycles, which ensure a high efficiency of flotation enrichment of hard-to-treat raw materials. In the usual practice of enrichment, minerals of the platinum group (PGM) of less than 10 microns in size are the source of inevitable process losses. For poor raw materials, it is precisely thin PGMs that are characteristic, their proportion sometimes being almost 100%, and their opening leads to the formation of a large amount of slime, which adversely affects the efficiency of flotation. To reduce the yield of slimes and increase the selectivity degree of the opening of the PGM in the ore preparation cycle, a dry grinding scheme and pneumoclassification of the milling material has been developed to obtain fractions of different fineness, density and morphology of the particles. From 2 to 5-fold reduction in the yield of slurries for various ores has been achieved. The separation cycle successfully tested are: flotation of fractions in separate cycles with a differentiated choice of the reagent regime; preliminary selective flocculation of slime fraction material; use of a new generation of bioreagents for flocculation and flotation. A new approach to subsoil research is protected by a patent. The dependence of the efficiency of biocollectors on the composition of biomineral extract from the processed raw materials, which forms the basis of new reagents, is established. The possibility of obtaining the degree of extraction of PGM, native gold and sulphides from finely ground pre-fractionated poor ores with the use of biocollectors of at least 85% is proved. With conventional reagents, the extraction of PGM is 12-23% lower, with the use of traditional ore-preparation apparatuses, the PGM recovery rate was halved. Methods for the long-term storage and preparation in industrial conditions of biocollector reagents that do not require the purification of waste waters from them have been developed. The developed multifactorial system of intensification of flotation enrichment can be introduced to recovery PGM from tailings of enrichment of titanomagnetite, chromite and copper-nickel ores.

"The occurrence of recrystallization in cold-worked aluminum sheet during the brazing process leads to loss of strength, an inhomogeneous grain structure and reduced corrosion resistance. AlMgScZr alloys are known for their extraordinary recrystallization resistance due to the influence of Sc and Zr addition on their microstructure. Here, we investigate the effect of alloy composition (i.e. Mn, Mg, Sc, Zr content), cold-roll reduction and pre-aging treatment on the recrystallization behavior of cold-rolled sheets at brazing temperatures typically used during the manufacture of heat exchanger units. The analysis of recrystallization behavior is carried out through microstructural characterization and the results are compared with the behavior of a commercial, AA3xxx-based heat exchanger alloy.INTRODUCTION Control of recrystallization is of critical importance during brazing, which is a widely-used joining technique for aluminum alloys in aircraft structures (Heinz, 2000) and automotive heat exchangers (Miller, 2000; Marshall, 1993). Due to excessive local heat at brazing temperatures, the cold work texture of aluminum alloys in the cold-rolled sheets may undergo a local recrystallization process (Marshall, 1993). This leads to the formation of an inhomogeneous microstructure and thus anisotropic mechanical properties (Miller, 2000) and low corrosion resistance (Marshall, 1993) across the sheet. X800, a commonly-used Al-Mn alloy series for automotive heat exchangers applications, has been developed specifically for a higher strength as well as an enhanced corrosion resistance as opposed to the traditionally-used AA3003 alloy (Marshall, 1993). X800 alloys, however, exhibit a low recrystallization resistance at normal brazing temperatures, i.e. 590°C. In contrast, Al-Sc-Zr alloys have been shown to exhibit an extraordinary recrystallization resistance at such temperatures (Riddle, 2004) while also being corrosion resistant and possessing a high room-temperature strength (Fuller, 2002). This has been shown to be due to the formation of coherent, nanoscale Al3(ScZr) precipitates that effectively impede grain boundaries while also exhibiting very slow coarsening kinetics at high temperatures (Riddle, 2004; Jones, 2003; Ocenasek, 2001). In this study, we analyze the recrystallization behavior of X800 alloys under brazing conditions through introducing Sc and Zr into the system as well as varying the Mn and Mg content. The effect of processing route is also studied by introducing a pre-aging stabilization treatment as well as varying the cold-roll reduction prior to the final brazing anneal."

The massive use of deep foundations had a remarkable influence in the building industry in the 20th century. Piles and micropiles made possible to erect thousands of civil structures around the world, changing quintessentially the urban and rural landscapes. Especially in urban areas, the ongoing development requires not only new infrastructure, but also to increase the capacity and/or to extend the serviceability of existing structures (buildings, bridges, etc.). Factors such as the change of use of existing facilities or the requirement to comply with updated building regulations confront Civil Engineers with the question, whether to tear down and build new structures, or to reinforce the existing structures from their foundations. Micropiling has enabled designers to come up with technical feasible solutions to retrofit the existing deep foundations, making the structural reinforcement a real option, even under considerable changes in the loading conditions. The following article presents an overview of an intervention project, where micropiles were designed to reinforce the original pile foundation of an existing building, enabling it to be reused with a different structural function. This paper will focus mainly on the analysis of the interaction between the existing piles and the reinforcing micropiles, especially in terms of settlements’ compatibility. Finally, the adopted solution, with its correspondent design considerations and execution process will be presented.

"Abutment pressure distribution is different when a longwall panel is passing through the abandoned gateroads in a damaged coal seam. According to the geological conditon of panel E13103 in Cuijiazhai Coal Mine in China theoretical analysis and finite element numerical simulation were used to determine the front pressure distribution characteristics when the longwall face is 70 m, 50 m, 30 m, 20 m, 10 m, and 5 m from the abandoned gateroads. The research results show that the influence range of abutment pressure is 40 m to 45 m outby the face, and the peak value of front abutment pressure is related to the distance between the face and abandoned gateroads. When the distance between the longwall face and abandoned gateroads is reduced from 50 m to 10 m, the front abutment pressure peak value kept increasing.When the distance is 10 m, it has reached the maximum. The peak value is located in 5 to 6 m outby the faceline. When the distance between the longwall face and abandoned gateroads is reduced from10 m to 5 m, the front abutment pressure sharply decreases, the intact coal yields and is even in plastic state. The peak value transfers to the other side of the abandoned gateroads. The research results provide a theoretical basis for determining the advance support distance of two gateroads in the panel and the reinforcement for face stability when the longwall face is passing through the abandoned gateroads.INTRODUCTIONFront abutment pressure is the result of rearrangement of in situ rock stress caused by the mining (removal) of the coal seam. Research on the distribution character of face abutment pressure have significant importance in confirming the width of the coal pillar and the distance of advance support in roadways (Liu et al., 2011; Liu, Jiang, and Zhu, 2015). Currently, there is a lot of research on abutment pressure characteristics of traditional longwall coal faces, thick coal seam longwall faces, isolated faces, and extra wide face abutment pressure distribution (Xie et al., 2006). However, theoretical analysis and research on the distribution law of the fully mechanized coal face to abandoned gateroads are relatively less. Abandoned roadways are often from less mechanized or room and pillar mines. Due to the existence of these roadways pre-longwall mining, the in situ stress has already been redistributed around the roadway (Liu et al., 2007). Thus, when the longwall approaches and mines through the roadway, the abutment pressure distribution behaviour has different characteristics than those of traditional solid undisturbed coal. Especially when the face approaches the abandoned roadway, the understanding of face abutment pressure distribution has significant importance to the timing of support installation (Ren and Ning, 2014). This prevents the occurrence of a roof and rib failure ahead of and on the longwall and highly efficient advance of the longwall safely and productivity. This paper analyses the E13103 face of the Cuijiazhai Mine of Wenzhou Mining Co., Ltd of Kailuan Group, as the engineering case study, and uses FLAC3D numerical simulation software to conduct numerical simulated analysis on the abutment pressure distribution mechanism of longwall coal mining face."

"Sand is a naturally occurring granular material that is a result of the physical or chemical breakdown of rocks. Raw/natural sand contains various minerals, and it is this combination of minerals that brings the value to the construction aggregate industry. However, it is the quartz component of sand that is valued in its application as industrial silica in glass, high purity quartz, foundry sand, and oil and gas fracturing. Depending on the industry, the grade requirements can be the concentration of SiO2, particle size or shape, as well as contaminants such as the heavy refractory minerals, clays, fines, and alkali metals. With the ever declining mineral feed grade, processors continue to face challenges making the industry specific concentrate grade. As such, it becomes more important to tailor make the processing reagents to fit the mineral, processing conditions, and desired quality specification. This paper focuses on the application of novel collectors towards the beneficiation of sand for each of the major industrial silica applications. INTRODUCTIONQuartz is a mineral composed of a framework of silicon and oxygen atoms. It is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth’s continental crust. There are many species of quartz, which are defined by the particle size, shape, and color. Silica sand is one of those species, which is the byproduct of the physical or chemical breakdown of quartz containing rocks or crystals. Geologist define silica sand as a silica mineral with a particle size between 0.05 and 2 mm in diameter (Zdunczyk, 2001). Silica sand has significant value to society in recreation (beach sand and toy boxes), construction aggregate (concretes and asphalt), industry (iron & steel casting, fracturing proppants, and glass), as well as specialty products such as semiconductors or silicon wafers used in electronics.The aggregate business is the dominant consumer of silica sand products. Conversely, glass making, foundries (casting material), abrasives, and fracturing proppants are the dominant applications for industrial silica sand. Not much beneficiation is required for sand products going into the construction industry, other than sizing and scrubbing to remove clay. However, the industrial silica sand applications are dependent on particle size, shape, and degree of contaminants, which sets the market value (table 1). Therefore, as the more specialty products are produced, more sophisticated techniques and chemistry need to be applied to ensure the appropriate quality is met."

"In this paper, we report a simple and effective process for producing a surfactant mixture of O-isopropyl-N-ethyl thionocarbamate (IPETC) and 4-(tert-butyl)benzyl mercaptan (BBSH). The composite collector was synthesized via one-pot reaction of sodium isopropyl xanthate, 4-tert-butylbenzylchloride and ethylamine using tert-butyl alcohol as solvent. The whole process for the synthesis of composite collector involves neither foul smelling reagents or intermediates, nor any by-products requires special treatment for disposal, and thus can be scaled up to an industrial level. The flotation response of chalcopyrite and pyrite independently with IPETC and BBSH collectors and with their mixture (the mole ratio of IPETC and BBSH is 1:1) was assessed. The microflotation results showed that the collecting ability of BBSH was slightly stronger than that of IPETC and that IPETC was more selective collector than BBSH against pyrite, and that the composite collector displayed a stronger collecting ability toward chalcopyrite than IPETC, and superior selectivity for chalcopyrite against pyrite than BBSH. The batch flotation results showed that composite collector exhibited better performance than IPETC and BBSH. It was demonstrated that the mixing of IPETC and BBSH would give rise to a synergistic effect significantly enhancing overall flotation performance. In addition, the adsorption mechanism of BBSH on the surface of chalcopyrite was conducted by adsorption test and infrared spectrum measurement, and the results showed that the interaction of BBSH on the chalcopyrite surface was dominated by the chemical adsorption, and the formation of a strong S-M bond plays a key role in the adsorption of mercaptans on minerals surfaces. The developed flotation reagents with special preparation method is the author’s original design, patented (patent of the People’s Republic of China) and have no analogues in the world of mineral processing. Nowadays, the judicious utilization of complex sulfides to meet the ever-growing demand of mineral resources gains more attention, due to the gradual depletion of deposits with high grade, making imperative the development of new high-efficiency collectors and mixtures of collectors to process complex minerals. In comparison to individual collectors, the use of mixtures has several notable benefits including lower dosage requirements, improved selectivity, rates and recovery and an increase in the recovery of coarse particles[3-9]. Moreover, in terms of cost and environmental issues, using collector mixtures can reduce the total amount of agents used, thus reducing the overall effect on the environment and economic costs without affecting the flotation performance. "The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (NPPTL) is leading an effort to develop the next generation of self-escape breathing apparatus for egress from confined spaces in emergency scenarios. A backpack style closed-circuit mine escape respirator design was one configuration explored as part of the research imperative directed by the 2006 MINER Act. Stakeholder feedback from MSHA and at the NIOSH Breathing Air Supply Partnership Meeting indicated a smaller belt worn unit that does not sacrifice performance is desirable. This paper outlines some further technology advancements that may be investigated toward developing such a small-sized respirator. Technologies being considered are novel chemicals for improved carbon dioxide (CO2) absorption and oxygen (O2) production, eliminating a dedicated CO2 scrubber by incorporating its function in the spaces of the respirator’s breathing loop and storing O2 in a liquid form with long standby capabilities. When these technologies are applied to a future design, there is the possibility of having an escape respirator that can be belt worn and capable of being certified to 42 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 84 standards, including sub-part O for escape purposes including mine escape. BACKGROUND NIOSH NPPTL has a Research and Development effort to provide mine workers with state-of-the-art breathing air technologies to comprehensively support initial and continued self-escape, refuge alternatives, and rescue needs, resulting from mine emergencies. As part of this R&D effort, NIOSH invested in the development of a next-generation closed-circuit mine escape respirator (CCMER) which would be compliant with NIOSH’s respirator standard requirements, 42 Code of Federal Regulations Part 84, including sub-part O. The design features of the CCMER also address the MINER Act’s requirements for transitioning between devices without the need for doffing the initially donned device. It would also allow for improved protection when using voice communications with a donned device ."

"A380 alloy has been widely employed to produce thin-wall components via high pressure die casting (HPDC). During HPDC processing, there is a significant problem of property variation even with the very stable and precision automated casting procedure. The enlarged variation lowers the component performance and affects the steady and uniform property distribution along the whole component. In this study, high shear melt conditioning technology was developed and applied to the melt prior to pouring into the shot sleeve. Experimental results show that with application of intensive melt shearing, the variation of elongation was decreased from 21.8to 13.9%, and yield strength variation was reduced from5.5to 3.6%. The improved property variation is attributed to enhanced nucleation both in shot sleeve and the die-cavity, and to the improved distribution of porosity and secondary phases as a benefit of high shear induced grain refinement. With application of high shear, large number of the Spinel phase (MgAl2O4) particles with double size distribution in average diameter of 80and 300nm were formed. Due to the good orientation relationship and small misfit between alpha Al and MgAl2O4, the particles act as the effective nuclei in shot sleeve and die cavity, respectively.INTRODUCTIONA380 alloy had been widely used for produce automotive components by cold chamber high pressure die casting(HPDC) processing, due to its relative good mechanical properties and cast ability performance, and more important most of A380 ingots were produced by recycled Al alloys. Therefore, to promote utility of A380 will contribute to reducing emission of CO2and to the lightweight of automotive industry as well. When cold chamber HPDC was employed to produce the components, the mechanical properties of A380 alloy always have a distribution range (named variation herein), or in other words the properties were not stable. The reason was ascribed to the typical solidification characteristics occurred in HPDC processing. During HPDC processing, there are three steps of melt movement. The first step is that the melt was poured into shot sleeve at temperature of about 680°C, in which shot sleeve was preheated by few shots of melt filling, or by heater. During step one, the first solidification of melt was happened in shot sleeve and about 20% solid made of coarse a-Al grains was formed(Li, Xiong, & Guo, 2016).Such kind of grains will retain in the final products and deteriorate the properties variation. The second step is that the melt was forced moving forward slowly by plunger at about 0.2–0.3m/s until the liquid melt front to the inner gate of mold. The third step is that the melt moved very fast to complete the filling of die cavity and refilling the solidification shrinkage by fast movement of plunger about 2–3m/s. The second solidification was occurred in die cavity and fine a-Al grains will be formed by high cooling rate at about 500–1000°C/s. From the solidification point of view, the grain size was dominated by nucleation and growth. When HPDC was employed to produce components, the melt quality becomes the priority factor to control the solidification process as the other casting parameters were kept at the same."

"The proportion of refractory sulphide ores and concentrates in world gold mining industry is growing every year. Pressure oxidation of these materials (in autoclave) allows to oxidize gold hosting minerals. Traces of halides and pseudohalides present in the slurry liquids contribute to formation of complex gold compounds. Sorption-active carbon present in ores leads to irreversible adsorption of complex gold compounds and their loss. The objective of the research is to study gold extraction dependence on the concentration of chloride-, cyanide- and thiocyanate-ions in the slurry liquids during pressure oxidation. Double refractory flotation concentrate of the Bakyrchik deposit was used for the testwork. The research was planned on the basis of a full factorial experimental design with additional refining experiments. Ligand concentrations (0 – 1000 mg/l Cl-, 0 – 600 mg/l CN-, 0 – 1200 mg/l of SCN-), temperature (200 – 240 °?) and retention time (1 – 6 h) were used as variables of pressure oxidation process. It was determined that sulfide minerals oxidize much faster than ""organic"" carbon. Under the conditions of T = 240 ?C, t = 2 h, sulphide sulfur oxidation was 95.6%, while ""organic"" carbon oxidation was 46.1 %. Each of the examined ligands has a significant adverse impact on gold extraction. Analysis of the experimental data demonstrated that with a high degree of confidence (R2 = 0.883) gold extraction does not depend on the ligand type, but only on its concentration and the ""organic"" carbon oxidation degree. In case of complete oxidation of ""organic"" carbon, the presence of the ligand (L = Cl-, CNS-, CN-) in the liquids at a concentration of up to 20 millimole/L does not significantly affect gold extraction. The assumption that the main factor of preg-robbing in ???-CIL treatment of double refractory concentrates is the natural ""organic"" carbon sorption-active to gold has been confirmed. INTRODUCTION In recent decades, placer gold mining has been gradually declining and hardrock gold mining, including ""refractory"" gold mining, has been growing all over the world, as well as in the Russian Federation (http://www.miningworld.ru, 2015). One of the main reasons why gold ores are refractory is gold adsorption on natural carbonaceous materials (""organic carbon""). "Stirred media mills are widely used in the industry for fine grinding. Most of the applications work in wet mode, however dry grinding in stirred media mill comes forward more frequently nowadays. The present paper deals with the differences and similarities of the wet and dry grinding in stirred media mill from energetic and mechanochemical point of view as well. Grinding experiments in batch stirred media mill were carried out with different materials. During the experiments zeolite and kaolin were used as feed material. The grinding experiments were carried out at different stress energy and stress number values; the grinding work was measured during milling. After grinding X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), particles size analyzes by laser scattering were carried out on the ground materials. As a result of the systematic grinding and analytical measurements a comprehensive comparison was carried out on the wet and dry grinding and their usefulness for mechanical activation in stirred media mill. INTRODUCTION The natural zeolites are crystalline hydrated aluminosilicates of alkali and alkaline earth characterized by the structure that contains frameworks responsible for the high cation exchange capacity (CEC) and absorption capacity. The frameworks are interconnected by cavities and resided by cations variable in size, coordinated by water molecules. Since zeolite comprises SiO4 and AlO4 tetrahedra interlocked by oxygen atoms that are situated in the structural nodes, their characteristics differ due to the varieties in the structure-directing agents and Si/Al ratio (Colella and Wise, 2014; Malekian et al., 2011; Terzic et al., 2017). The most common natural zeolite occurring in high amount, of industrial importance and involved in milling and MA is the clinoptilolite, in the literature equivalent to “natural zeolite” designated for high clinoptilolite bearing volcanic tuffs. Its amount in the host rock must reach ~ 40 % by weight to obtain the CEC and adsorption desired in its applications. In the highest quality rock might reach 80-90 % by weight (Favvas et al., 2016), but most often is the 40-60 % by weight content, associated with smectites, improving the CEC and adsorption of the tuffaceous rock. The application of such natural zeolites is problematic in many cases due to high silica (quartz, cristobalite and volcanic glass) content and beneficiation (concentration and extraction of pure zeolite) are not feasible. Thus, mechanical activation is a possible way to alter the other than clinoptilolite minerals generating high specific surface area and functionalized particle surfaces to enhance adsorption, reaction or particle adhesion. The zeolites easy availability and the utilization cost-effectiveness have prompted the research on their physicochemical and structural properties (e.g. adsorptive and molecular-sieve activity, heat resistance, and microporous cage structure) and finding new options for their application (Kusuma et al., 2013; Musyoka et al., 2014; Rida et al., 2013; Terzic et al., 2015b). Apart from the presence of exchangeable framework cations which are crucial for the adsorption ability, and a certain degree of pozzolanic reactivity. The thermal stability of dehydrated phases is another important characteristic for use of the zeolite in composite materials that are exposed to high temperature. Thereby, the zeolites found a wide application possibility in the design of the construction composites (Albayrak et al., 2007; Najimi et al., 2012; Vejmelková et al., 2015), as well as for resolving of the environmental protection issues like wastewater refining or heavy metal elimination (Gómez-Hortigüela et al., 2014) even from contaminated groundwater using passive methods like permeable reactive barriers (Gombköto et al, 2016). "In minerals processing control is vital to increasing performance and output of a plant. Model predictive control (MPC) is one of the most effective control strategies used in process industry. Sbárbaro (Sbárbaro and Del Villar, 2010), Asbjörnsson (Asbjörnsson, 2015), and Légaré (Légaré et al., 2016) have for example highlighted the possibility to simulate, develop and tune control systems using plant simulators within minerals processing. In more recent years the use of model predictive controllers have increased, and many process industries now utilize more advanced control methods to regulate their processes, raising the question regarding how to, build, test and verify a proposed control solution successfully. In this research, a linear model predictive controller is formulated and applied to a simulator of an existing tertiary crushing circuit. The circuit has in previous work by Johansson (Johansson, 2017) been modeled in MATLAB Simulink and calibrated relative plant data to an average error of less than 10% over 8 hours of production. The work demonstrates how to formulate the controller model structure to describe conveyor belts, storage components, screens, crushers, and control objectives for a minerals processing circuit. The work illustrates how to apply and successfully evaluate possible upsides in a circuit. The advantage of a crushing circuit simulator is that it can be configured, tuned and modified in any possible way, which is of great benefit to developers and engineers. Additionally, examples of how to use estimated measures to improve the performance of the plant are demonstrated. The control performance is finally evaluated for three different controller configurations."

"Lithium discovered in La Vi deposit, Quang Ngai province in the Central of Vietnam was estimated with a reserve of approximately 1.5 million tones of lithium ore, which was characterized by mainly lepidolite with muscovite, albite, and quartz. This study investigated reasonable flowsheet and optimal conditions of enrichment technology for lepidolite from the mined ore by flotation process, and producing Li2CO3 and LiCl from lepidolite concentrate by hydrometallurgical process. The significant conditions for froth flotation of lithium ore including particle size, pH of ore slurry, pulp density, chemical spending (collectors, activators, depressants, and frothers), stirring and flotation time were investigated. The identified reasonable flowsheet and optimal conditions for froth flotation the La Vi lithium ore processed lepidolite concentrate containing up to 4 wt.% Li2O with a recovery of 87.61 wt.%. The processes of sulfation roasting lepidolite concentrate using FeSO4.7H2O, then leaching in H2SO4 solution, and removing impurities were carried out to prepare a pure lithium-bearing solution for producing Li2CO3 and LiCl. The products containing 99.05 wt.% of Li2CO3 and 99.02 wt.% of LiCl were obtained with recoveries of 82.97 wt.% and 85.77 wt.%, respectively. The obtained results indicated that lithium ore in La Vi deposit can be processed to produce commercial lithium products and lead the study to develop technology for a new industry of lithium processing in Vietnam.INTRODUCTION Lithium is the lightest metal, which has many superior properties in both metal and compound (such as Li2CO3, LiCl...) states since its discovery in 1817 by Swedish chemist Johan August Arfwedson. Lithium is a favourable material for many high technology fields such as aerospace industry and chemical industry. Some industrial fields which present the main consumptions of lithium include ceramic, glass, aluminum alloy, lubricants, rechargeable Li-ion batteries, synthetic rubber, and pharmaceuticals. The worldwide production of lithium in 2014 was 31,700 tones, continually increased in 2015 of 5% presented 32,500 tones (USGS, 2016). The demand for lithium tends to increase because of the raising in consumption of lithium batteries. Lithium is mined from salar brines, mainly in Chile and Bolivia, but also from granites and pegmatites, which contain minerals with high lithium content such as spodumene - LiAlSi2O6 (Heinrich et al., 1978; Linnen et al., 2012); petalite - LiAlSi4O10 (Sitando & Crouse, 2012); zinnwaldite - KLiFe2+Al(AlSi3O10)(F,OH)2 (Paukov et al., 2010; Kondás J. & Jandová J., 2006); lepidolite - K(Li,Al)3(Si,Al)4O10(F,OH)2 (Luong et al., 2013); and amblygonite - LiAlPO4F (Garrett, 2004)."
