El trabajo desarrolla el diseño de un brazo hidráulico telescópico de sección rectangular, con un alcance máximo de 5 m, que puede ser ensamblado sobre el chasis de un elevador telescópico, para realizar desatado de rocas en operaciones de vetas angostas. El objetivo es presentar un scaler de menor tamaño, robusto y de menor precio, que brinda mayor seguridad al proceso de desatado de rocas. Se muestra, asimismo, el uso de herramientas computacionales modernas que ayudan a reducir el cálculo iterativo y optimizan el producto.

En el presente trabajo exponemos es factible el envío de gases no nocivos para el medio ambiente a partir de la colocación en la chimenea de un reactor de hecho enfocado con el catalizador idóneo, este contribuiría en macro a reducir la huella de carbono en las operaciones en mina subterránea, lo que conllevaría a ser considerados como minería peruana que trabaja amigablemente con el medio ambiente.

El presente texto describe dos posibles alternativas para el diseño de ventilación de la mina Mallay, ubicada en la provincia de Oyón, Lima. La infraestructura de la mina tiene 6 niveles, donde se ha previsto contar con 3 chimeneas principales de ventilación, cuyo requerimiento de aire mediano y largo es de 70,707 y 154,652 cfm, respectivamente. En ese sentido, se plantean dos alternativas de solución para este sistema de ventilación: La primera alternativa consiste en la construcción de dos chimeneas a superficie para la extracción del aire viciado y en el que cada chimenea contará con un ventilador principal como extractor en superficie. Mientras que la segunda alternativa, utilizará el nivel 4470 para la extracción a superficie del aire viciado mediante un ventilador principal instalado en la bocamina. Para ello, se realizará una ampliación a una sección de 10’x10’ en los primeros 70 m de la bocamina y se construirá un by pass para permitir el acceso al nivel. De las dos alternativas planteadas, ambas satisfacen el requerimiento de aire a mediano y largo plazo de la mina, con la diferencia que la segunda alternativa cuenta con la ventaja que el Nv. 4470 ya existe y sólo requiere ampliar la sección; mientras que en la primera alternativa las chimeneas tienen que ser construidas.

Dado que la mina Rosaura (Lima) se dedica a la explotación de minerales polimetálicos como el zinc, plomo, cobre y plata, la caracterización geomecánica de su estructura, morfología y reservas demostró una tendencia hacia los métodos masivos -en tanto presenta ventajas técnico-económicas comparativas frente a otros posibles métodos como el corte y relleno y conjunto de cuadros. Por ello, el presente texto describe el método de “Hundimiento por Subniveles” (Sub Level Caving – SLC), como el más indicado. El SLC se basa en la utilización del flujo gravitacional del mineral fragmentado a través de la perforación, voladura, y el hundimiento de la roca estéril principalmente de la caja techo. El diseño del elipsoide de extracción determinará la ubicación de los Sub niveles y Drawpoints, los cuales serán críticos para hacer rentable el minado, de forma que los beneficios actuales del método indican niveles altos de Seguridad, recuperación alta de mineral, bajos costos y mejora constante de la productividad.

El diseño de un Pit puede cambiar en función de los precios de los metales, los costos y otras restricciones económicas, geológicas y ambientales; Estas restricciones deben establecerse en el modelo de bloque y debe establecerse una variable numérica y categórica específica. Los profesionales deben informar lo que está en el diseño basado en el Modelo de Bloques. Aunque el diseño se considera lento en software 3D, el diseño de la línea media del banco ejemplifica la flexibilidad y la eficiencia.

A través de estudios electrocinéticas, electroquímicos, y de flotación, se ha confirmado que la flotación de arsenopirita, ocurre debido a la formación de dixantogenato isopropílico, por la oxidación del colector en la superficie del mineral. Este fenómeno se promueve en condiciones ácidas, lo que no es nuestro caso; Sin embargo, se evita la flotación en condiciones alcalinas donde se forman hidróxidos de fierro y arseniatos en la superficie de arsenopirita y variedades de minerales de arsénico.

Se requiere realizar controles iniciales a las fisuras menores de los hastiales, estás se presentan cuando la roca reacciona y empieza a ejercer pequeñas deformaciones a la superficie del shotcrete, evidenciándose en pequeñas aberturas milimétricas. Es en este momento que se tiene que realizar las mediciones de deformación mediante las tablas patrones, las cuales se insertan a la superficie fisurada y se inicia el ciclo de lecturas hasta que llegue al límite Crack, punto en el cual se inicia la colocación del refuerzo mediante una cinta de malla tipo Straps y perno o en caso rebase el valor crack se podrá resanar con más shotcrete.

A full-length paper was not prepared for this presentation.The recent and active magmatic arcs of eastern Papua New Guinea (PNG) and the Solomon Islands are well endowed with sulfide mineralisation and include deposits such as Ladolam, Panguna and Solwara 1. The majority of the mineral systems in this belt are younger than four million years old, with some deposits remaining active to the present day as exemplified by active hydrothermal systems on the island of Lihir. The geodynamic setting that led to the formation of these deposits is still unresolved, with, for example, both the Pacific and Solomon Sea plates considered responsible for the formation of the Ladolam deposit on the island of Lihir under different models. In order to understand and characterise the formation of south-west Pacific mineral deposits, we must first reconstruct the complex geodynamic evolution of the region. New kinematic reconstructions show that while mineral systems in eastern PNG and the Solomon Islands are hosted within a single arc related to subduction at the New Britain and San Cristobal trenches, variable and discrete geodynamic settings exist within both the upper and lower plates throughout this region, which give rise to distinct mineralised corridors. Most notably, this region is host to: the Solwara 1 deposit, which occurs within a major transtensional corridor in the eastern Bismarck Sea the Ladolam deposit (Lihir), which is interpreted to have formed above but in relation to tearing of the subducting slab the Panguna deposit, which is related to structure in the subducting slab marginal to the actively spreading Woodlark Basin.An evaluation of the nature and variability of these diverse geodynamic settings through time can provide us with a better understanding of the relationship between the active south-west Pacific magmatic arcs and mineral deposit formation. Liquids containing suspended solids are encountered in most mineral processing applications. Solids levels cover a very wide range, from ppm levels in cooling water systems to slurries containing greater than 70% solids. When the aqueous phase is recycled or further processed, a solid/liquid separation process is used. Chemical additives used to carry out this process are called coagulants and flocculants. In other cases, one seeks to control or modify the properties of the suspension. Dispersants are chemicals used to aid in suspending solids in a liquid as well as to control the properties of the resulting suspension. Dispersants find a range of uses in mining and mineral processing such as scale control, filter aids, flotation aids, and slurry viscosity modification. Materials used as dispersants include inorganic salts, alkalies, organic surfactants, and polyelectrolytes. This paper discusses the use of dispersants in mineral processing, with an emphasis on control of slurry viscosity. The mechanism of dispersion and factors that affect the choice of dispersant will be discussed.

A wide-ranging series of experiments has been carried out on value minerals (sphalerite, smithsonite and hematite) and gangue minerals (quartz and calcite) to assess the properties of various commercially available vegetable and synthetic tannins as dispersants for these minerals in a finely ground state (<5 microns). Experiments to determine the dispersing power of each reagents on every mineral have been performed through sedimentation tests run first in water and afterwards in the presence of a collector having specific action on the mineral concerned. The tests have been extended to a wide range of dispersant concentrations, maintaining the pH and collector concentrations at the levels known to be the best for the flotation of the various minerals. By comparing the results obtained on each mineral, conclusions have been drawn on the possibility of using different classes of vegetable and synthetic tannins in the selective flotation of fine particles. These results have been related to the structure of the tanning compounds and to the surface properties of the minerals.

Paper presented at the IAGOD international symposium on mineralisation related to mafic and ultramafic rocks, held in Orleans, France, 1-3 September 1993. The Zinca area was chosen as a suitable location for an investigation of the weathering and secondary dispersion of platinum group metals from the Zone. It was concluded that platinum is immobile while within weathered rock, its mineral phases tending to alter from primary sulphides and tellurides to secondary Pt-Fe alloys. Palladium is variably mobile in weathered rock. In stream sediments Pt occurs mainly as small, dense, discrete particles, giving rise to a nugget effect, whereas Pd probably occurs as much finer particles or chemically adsorbed on to a suitable substrate. Pt shows a rapid decrease in sediments downstream from mineralisation, whereas Pd has a much slower downstream decay

"The Niobec concentrator rejects up to /5% of the Nb as slimes (-10u.m). The recovery of Nb from these slimes by column flotation is being studied. An essential condition for selective flotation is slimes dispersion. A particle size analyzer, the Sedigraph 5000D, was used to monitor dispersion in plant waters with combinations of organic and inorganic dispersants and flotation reagents. Flotation reagents were particularly detrimental to dispersion with sodium silicate. The best dispersion conditions were selected for column flotation tests. These tests revealed that reagent combination had a pronounced effect on froth stability. Careful frother selection achieved good froth stability under conditions of good dispersion. Plant water increased the required dispersant concentration causing mineral depression.IntroductionSlimes (-10 u.m) rejected at Niobec contain up to 15070 of the over-all Nb content . Recovery of Nb from these slimes would significantly increase over-all recovery. A suggested recovery route involves two phases: (1) carbonate flotation (to remove most of the carbonates) depressing silicates and pyrochlore (as currently done at Niobec); and (2) selective (direct) pyrochlore flotation from the silicates. Phase 2 has been addressed and several routes to achieve selective flotation are available. Phase I was attempted with the selective reagent scheme used at Niobec but a considerable amount of pyrochlore floated with the carbonates due to poor slimes dispersion."

While controlling fly rock and ground vibration in quarrying in the neighborhood of a residential area, producing good fragmentation and keeping different grades of material separated in a muckpile are important in maintaining the productivity of quality aggregates. This paper describes a single row production blast for the study of fragmentation and displacement in the grade control carried out at a quarry of Barrett Paving Materials Inc. in Sylvania, Ohio. Digital video imaging was used to monitor the blast-induced motion of the bench face as input to the DMC_Blast (Distinct Motion Code), for the analysis of the formation of the muckpile. The actual digitized blast video and the DMC_Blast simulation are compared. The displacement and mixing of all the inter-bedded limestone layers are made visible in the simulated cross-section of the muckpile. The apparent fragmentation analysed with PowerSieve is also discussed.

Drilled displacement piles were constructed as the foundation for a proposed 10-story building in San Francisco, California. At the study location, the stratigraphy consists of 14 to 21 feet of fill and 13 to 23 feet of weak, compressible clay (?Bay Mud?), underlain by dense sand, stiff clay, and bedrock. A sensitive critical public utility is located within approximately 20 feet of the constructed piles along one side of the building. The utility pipeline is entirely within the Bay Mud where it is adjacent to the project site. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) developed limits on the allowable total and differential movement of the utility pipeline. As requested by the SFPUC, inclinometers and piezometers were installed to monitor the soil movement and pore pressure increases in the Bay Mud caused by the installation of drilled displacement piles. Action levels were set such that if displacement and/or pore pressures reached an action level, the installation methodology would be reevaluated and additional measures to reduce these effects would be implemented. This paper will present the sequence of pile installation near the pipeline and monitoring points, and the data collected from inclinometers and piezometers at variable depths and distances from the piles. The data will highlight the build-up and dissipation of pore pressures over time and the displacement of Bay Mud caused by the pile installation. The conclusions of the study are useful in determining sequencing, spacing, predrilling, and other measures that can be implemented to decrease the displacement potential and pore pressure build-up in soft clays.

Equivalent spring constants for analysis of footings is a function of Young&apos;s modulus of pile material (Ep), shear modulus of soil (Gs), and geometry of the footing and/or piles. Shear modulus is strongly strain dependent in soils. Therefore, the spring constants are strain dependent, which is acceptable to the Geotechnical engineers. However, structural engineers prefer to use spring constants as a function of displacement, rather than strain. In order to develop these relationships, appropriate relationships between strain and displacement are needed. Also, modulus degradation with strain needs be built into these relationships. Description of spring constants kx , ky, and kz in x, y, and z direction and k?, k?, k?, about x, y, and z directions are relatively simple. However, description of kxø and ky?, the cross-coupling spring constants depend on 2 - components of displacement and rotation. Thus, there are 8 spring constants and likewise there are 8 damping constants. Approximate strain-displacement relationships on which displacement dependant k&apos;s and c&apos;s are based are presented with appropriate equations, and a numerical example is included illustrating k&apos;s and c&apos;s as functions of displacement.

This paper describes a numerical method for calculating the three¬-dimensional stresses and displacements induced by tabular excavations in a rock mass consisting of parallel layers of distinct material properties. The method is based on the superposition of numerical solutions for elementary displacement discontinuities in a parallel layered rock mass. The method can be used to analyse complicated excavation layouts such as those encountered in room-and-pillar or longwall mining. The method can automatically take into account the effect of the earth&apos;s surface. The method offers an economic and efficient solution to stress analysis problems which cannot be adequately modelled using two¬-dimensional methods and for which the expense of three-dimensional finite element or general boundary element analysis cannot be justified.

INTRODUCTION The first Dispute Review Board (DRB) was utilized on a tunnel project 20 years ago. Increasingly utilized on a wide range of construction projects, DRB&apos;s are becoming the norm on tunnel and underground projects. This paper summarizes the growth in this usage, uses observations and experience to establish that barriers to the utilization of DRB&apos;s are more perceived than real and that many arguments against the DRB concept are not valid, and notes some of the salient elements that should be considered in practice to optimize DRB effectiveness. The purpose of the paper is to provide an annotated checklist for current and prospective users. The basic concept, structure, and operation of DRB&apos;s are described elsewhere and will not be repeated here (ASCE, 1991). DISPUTE REVIEW BOARD USAGE A compilation of Dispute Review Board usage for tunnel and underground projects to January 1994 indicated use on 63 contracts with a cumulative construction value of $3.8 billion and a total of 60 disputes settled. As of that same date, DRB&apos;s were planned for another 63 contracts with an estimated construction value of $4.7 billion. (A listing of these 126 projects is available from the authors.) This success and popularity have spread to other civil projects as well as process and building construction. The increase in DRB usage has been exponential. See Figure 1.

The Rise &amp; Shine Shear Zone is a shallow-dipping Cretaceous late metamorphic shear zone formed in a compressional environment. The Shotover mineralised system is dominated by normal faults with well-defined vein systems that cut across Miocene schist folds and faults related to the inception of the Alpine Fault. Despite the geological differences between these mineralisation systems, they share many common features of hydrothermal alteration that have resulted in disseminated gold in altered sheared schist. The most distinctive feature of both systems is the abundant ankeritic carbonate that has formed from decomposition of metamorphic chlorite. Excess iron from this alteration reaction combined with hydrothermal sulphur to form sulphides that host the disseminated gold. The chlorite decomposition reaction was reversed in the latter stages of both mineralisation systems, and this was accompanied by further gold emplacement in the Rise &amp; Shine system. &nbsp; Both alteration systems involved initial decomposition of metamorphic albite, followed by deposition of albite as a vein mineral in the latter stages. The fluid flow that yielded the disseminated gold was controlled by microshears that pervade host schists, in strong contrast to many Otago Schist vein systems where host rock alteration is absent. The ankeritic alteration in the Shotover and Rise &amp; Shine mineralised systems has increased the volume of mineralised rock, and may have made suitable targets for large-tonnage, low grade gold deposits.

The Reefton Goldfield has produced 67 t of gold from mesothermal vein gold deposits in metasedimentary rocks of the Greenland Group (Cambrian-Ordovician). The Globe-Progress deposit contributed 13.2 t (418,000 oz) of this total, predominantly from quartz veins. Recently a resource of 14 Mt at 1.96 g/t Au (27.5 t or 882,300 oz of contained gold) has been delineated at Globe-Progress in quartz vein remnants and disseminated within adjacent sedimentary rock, much of which has been locally brecciated. The breccias consist of quartz vein and sedimentary wall rock fragments set in a matrix of clay ærock flourÆ and sulphide (arsenopyrite plus minor pyrite and stibnite). Gold, closely associated with sulphide, is disseminated within the breccia. Disseminated gold also occurs in massive siltstone and sandstone adjacent to the quartz veins and breccias. Exploration drilling at Globe-Pogress, and several other Reefton prospects (e.g. Capleston, Merrijigs, Big River and Alexander River), has intersected zones of disseminated arsenopyrite carrying up to 20 g/t more gold. These mineralised sediments commonly have little or no megascopic quartz and or carbonate veining. There is little visible indication of former primary or secondary permeability for the passage of hydrothermal fluid and deposition of gold. However, porosity and permeability were formerly present in inter-granular pore spaces and microveinlets now filled with quartz, carbonate and K-mica. The Fosterville gold deposit in Victoria bears many similarities to the Globe-Progress deposit at Reefton, in terms of age, host rocks, hydrothermal alteration and mineralisation style. Many ofthe disseminated deposits in Nova Scotia, including deposits at North Brookfield and Moose River (Touquoy Zone), have similar characteristics to the Reefton disseminated mineralisation, but commonly have abundant pyrrhotite and some deposits have disseminated metal alloy grains of complex metallurgy.

The dissociation (ionisation) constant of hydrogen cyanide, pKa(HCN), has been measured by high precision glass electrode potentiometric titrations in saline solutions containing up to 5 mol/L sodium chloride. The dissociation constant of water that is necessary for the calculation of pKa(HCN) has also been measured. In saline solution, and in contrast to literature values, pKa(HCN) changes considerably at both high and low ionic strengths as a result of changes in activity coefficients. In addition an equation is presented, using literature data, that describes the variation of pKa(HCN) with temperature up to 150°C. The significance of the changes in pKa(HCN) for optimising the pH of alkaline cyanide gold recovery streams is briefly discussed.
