An experimental mining project has been carried out in the Collie Basin to demonstrate the safe operation of total extraction mining techniques in the underground mines of the basin. To achieve this, it was necessary to design and install a means of controlling or removing groundwater so that goafing of the overlying strata could be safely achieved as part of the mining operation. The site chosen for the experiment was a triangular panel adjacent to Western No 6 (WD6) underground mine, which includes the 3 to 4 m thick Wyvern Seam beneath 130 to 180 m of overburden. The test area abuts a major fault on the downdip side. The overburden and underburden sequences include several horizons of permeable sandstones which form major aquifers. Water problems have long been recognized in all underground mines in the Collie Basin, and have previously prevented the successful application of total extraction mining. Following extensive hydrological investigations, dewatering and depressurization systems were designed to dewater the immediate roof aquifers and to depressurize aquifers higher in the sequence and in the floor. This would enable stable roof conditions to develop and controlled goafing to be achieved. The roof dewatering/depressurization procedure involved a combination of in-mine vertical roof drainage holes and conventional dewatering bores constructed from the ground surface above the mining trial area. The dewatering system was installed and operated for 29 months before the commencement of mining. Mining was eventually successfully completed in two trial panels using a retreat Wongawilli extraction system using bridge conveyors and continuous miners. Water inflow into the mine workings was channelled to a constructed sump area at the lowermost corner of the panel and pumped to the surface via vertical sump bores. The dewatering and depressurization measures adopted were successful in permitting the first controlled and systematic total extraction recovery of coal from the Collie Basin. This trial mining exercise demonstrated the potential for increasing substantially the recovery of coal from the Collie Basin, where previously recovery rates of around 30 percent from underground mining were commonplace, using only bord and pillar methods.

THE discovery that strongly magnetic bodies localized near the surface of the earth could be detected by the distortion which they produced in the resultant magnetic field marked the beginning of magnetic surveying methods. From an original ability to detect bodies of magnetic iron ore and the like when located very close to the, surface, these methods have been extended until today they promise to give much information with regard to the structure of such slightly magnetic material as sedimentary rock containing only a very small proportion of iron.1 The recent extensions have been made possible through the development of more delicate instruments, and of methods for their use. From the original compass and dip needle, the design of apparatus has progressed until equipment Is typified by magnetic balances capable of measuring the components of the earth's field to an extremely high degree of accuracy. It seems unlikely that the limit of such instrumental development has been reached. Just as the change from compass and dip needle has enabled the location of relatively minor changes in magnetic materials, so additional developments in the direction of increased sensitivity, as well as in greater dependability and constancy of operation, should reveal positively many slight changes which either escape notice in the present surveys or are so small that they cannot with certainty be separated from uncontrollable errors due to inconstant operation of the equipment. The ability to read smaller and smaller variations does not mean, of course, that deductions as to the causes of these variations will be made as accurately and definitely as -is possible with the more pronounced anomalies.

After a short theoretical comparison of various typical large bell tops with the bell-less top for segregation and other ,ffects on the material flowing through the equipment proper, a comparative analysis between classical and the new burdening in the furnace is given, showing the theoretical effects of distribution and segregation on the horizontal pressure variations, temperature values and gas composition in the stack. Then some typical theoretical charging patterns of the bell-less top for wall and centre temperature adjusting, pressure drop corrections, dissymmetric local action for blow-in and scaffolding are described. Finally the available practical results on furnaces equipped with the bell-less top are compared with the theoretical statements made before and conclusions indicate that the new approach to burdening blast furnaces is a real improvement.

In 2002 the Argyle Diamond Mine upgraded the process plantÆs recrush circuit to include a High Pressure Grinding Roll (HPGR), or High Pressure Rolls Crushers (HPRC) as they are termed in the diamond industry. HPGR have generated considerable interest over the last decade, though there are still technical/processing unknowns to its effectiveness as a primary diamond ore crusher.The upgrade of the Recrush circuit at Argyle Diamonds has gone a long way to answering some of the key questions, and thus it has reduced the unknowns to a level more acceptable to the industry.This paper focuses on the results from the HPRC at Argyle, in particular the performance of the studded wear surfaces, comparison of energy efficiency against traditional quaternary cone crushers and the resultant increased liberation. Issues that have arisen, including edge wear of the studded surfaces, will be discussed and the steps taken to reduce this issue are presented.

Black Mountain Resources' Highlands Mine No. I is a full extraction room and pillar operation located in Harlan County, Kentucky. Black Mountain extracts the 0.9 to 1.1 meter (36- to 42-inch) thick Owl Scam that is situated 60 to 70 meters (200 to 235 ft) above the longwall panels of the abandoned Arch No. 37 Mine, in the 3.4 meter (I I ft) thick Harlan Scam. In the areas where full extraction has taken place, the overburden above the Owl Seam ranges from 60 to 430 meters (200 to 1,400 ft). A short room and pillar panel was developed above an extracted longwall panel to test the selected pillar size, to evaluate support systems, and to verify the shape of the subsidence profile over the recovery end of the depleted longwall panel. It is over the recovery end that Highlands Mine No. I would access the Owl Seam reserves that exist above the No. 37 Mine. Black Mountain selected pillars sizes to be employed above the longwalls based on the ability to fully extract a pillar employing extended cuts. After a mechanical testing program was completed and mine behavior and top disturbance were observed in the test panel, John T. Boyd Company (BOYD) verified pillar stability and designed support systems. BOYD previously designed No. 37 Mine's gate pillars and studied subsidence and gob formation over its longwall panels; this effort aided the analysis of overburden movement and pillar integrity at Highlands Mine No. 1.

ANOTHER chapter in the history of Mother Lode mining is being written by operations in the Old Eureka mine near Sutter Creek, Amador County, California. During a two-year period (1938-1939), 85,517 tons of ore averaging 0.62 oz. gold per ton were mined and milled, as compared to the production of approximately 210,000 tons of 0.315-oz. gold ore during the preceding seven years. This is a repetition of mining history in the Mother Lode, where a period of prosperity has followed a long period of lean production. The location of this new ore in the hitherto unproductive hanging-wall greenstones and its mining and geological developments are most interesting. HISTORY OF THE OLD EUREKA MINE The Old Eureka mine, also known as the Hayward, Eureka, Hetty Green and Amador Consolidated, is in the most productive 10-mile length of the 120-mile long Mother Lode of California. The mine was first opened in 1852 with operations more or less continuous for the next 30 years. Production during this period amounted to $12,000,000 from an ore shoot 500 ft. long, which bottomed 1700 ft. below the surface. The shaft was continued as a prospect to 2065 ft. on the incline, where work was stopped in 1881. The mine was sold in 1916 by Hetty Green and the shaft deepened to the 3500-ft. level (3212 ft. vertically) by the new owners. Drifts were run on the 1700, 2100, 3000 and 3500-ft. levels, together with approximately 1500 ft. of crosscuts. No ore was found and work was abandoned in 1921. The present owners, the Central Eureka Mining Co., purchased the mine in 1924 after threatened litigation over rights to the rich ore shoot being mined from the lower levels of the Central Eureka mine on the south. Rehabilitation of the shaft commenced in 1926 and in 1930 mining on the old 2100-ft. level was started. While efforts of the previous owners had been directed for the most part toward the area south of the Old Eureka shaft and adjacent to the productive Central Eureka mine, the present owners started drifting northward on the old 2100-ft. level. The chemical oxidation kinetics of sphalerite by Fe(III) was studied at various temperatures and size fractions in sulphate media. The kinetics of Zn extraction followed a pore diffusion control mechanism with an apparent activation energy of 54-58 kJ mole. This figure, although high for a pore diffusion control process, is consistent with other studies carried out in sulphate media. An empirical statistical model, relating the extraction time to % Zn extraction, average particle size and temperature, is described by log 1 = 12.22 - 0.017% Ext. - 1.76 log D Av t - 2954 T Parallel studies were also carried out investigating the biological oxidation of sphalerite utilizing the acidophilic autotrophic bacterium Thiobacillus Ferroxidans. The effect of such kinetic parameters as pulp density, particle size and Fe(III) on bacterial growth rate and consequently zinc extraction rate, were studied and where appropriate, optimum conditions for bacterial growth were specified. Based on the results of chemical and biological leaching studies, it was apparent that rapid zinc extraction from sphalerite was predominently due to oxidation by Fe(III). The biological oxidation process catalyses the oxidation and regeneration of Fe(III). The proposed combined chemical-biological leach system was simulated in semi continuous fashion. The first use of graphite is lost in the mists of time. It was used by primitive man to make drawings on the walls of caves and by the Egyptians to decorate pottery. As early as 1400 A.D. graphite crucibles were being made in the Haffnerzell district of Bavaria. Through the Middle Ages graphite was confused with other minerals, especially galena and molybdenite. Two common names that are still used for the mineral are "Plumbago," meaning leadlike, and "Black Lead." The latter name implied that graphite is either composed of lead or at least contains a large percentage of it. Gessner is credited with having recognized it as a separate mineral in 1565, but its composition was not determined until 1779, when Scheele demonstrated that graphite oxidized to carbon dioxide, thus proving its carbon constitution. In 1789, Werner named it "graphite" from the Greek word "graphein," meaning to write. The United States has long relied on foreign countries for its graphite supplies. This reliance has been due more to the lack of suitable domestic graphites than to any particular preference for buying minerals overseas. Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) graphites were imported as early as 1820, and Madagascar graphites have been imported since the properties on that island were opened up about a hundred years later. Mexico has long supplied the United States with most of its requirements for amorphous graphite. Physical Properties and Classification Graphite is found in laminated, flaky aggregates disseminated in schistose rocks. It also occurs in veins and exhibits a foliated or fibrous structure. Graphite is a black lustrous mineral that crystallizes in the hexagonal system, with rhombohedral symmetry. The crystals have tabular form and are six-sided; the faces are commonly striated. The flakes have perfect basal cleavage and are opaque. When well crystallized, the flakes have a black metallic luster while the amorphous material is black and earthy, with a microcrystalline compactness. The flakes feel greasy. Graphite is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity. It melts at approximately 3550°C at a triple point under 1250 psi. It sublimes between 3300-3500°C at 14.7 psi. At 3726°C a second triple point occurs at approximately 100,000 atmospheres. Thermal oxidation in the presence of oxygen begins at 300°C and the rate increases with temperature. The three forms of carbon (charcoal, graphite, and diamond) are distinguished by chemical and physical tests. The specific gravity of charcoal is 1.3 to 1.9, of graphite 2.266 g/ cm3 (crystal density), and of diamond 3.5. Graphite has a hardness of 1 to 2 (Mohs' scale). Natural graphite can be divided into three classes: disseminated flake, crystalline vein (fibrous or columnar), and amorphous. Flake graphite is a lamellar form found in metamorphic rocks, such as marble, gneiss, and schist. Each flake is separate, having crystallized as such in the rock. Crystalline vein graphite is found in the form of well defined veins or as pocket accumulations along the intrusive contacts of pegmatites with limestones. The graphite of such deposits is of two types, foliated and columnar. The important Sri Lanka (Ceylon) deposits are vein type. Amorphous graphite is commonly found as minute microcrystalline particles more or less uniformly distributed in feebly metamorphic rocks, such as slates and shales, or in beds consisting practically entirely of graphite. The latter usually are metamorphosed coal seams and carry as much as 80-85% graphitic carbon, while the former, being altered carbonaceous sediments, commonly range from 25 to 60%

This paper describes the application procedure of the Stress Control mine design method. This procedure has evolved over the past 20 years of the practice of this Method in trona, potash, salt, and, most recently, in coal mining. The Stress Control Method of mine design has been defined and amply described in previously-published work (1,2,4) -- likewise, the associated system of in situ instrumentation (3,4) and the computer modelling technique (2,3,4) which are the principal tools of this method. The present paper defines the procedure by which the in situ instrumentation and computer modelling cools are combined in adapting the general concepts of Stress Control to produce site-specific design solutions. This procedure is illustrated by means of case examples from three mines. The Stress Control Method utilizes the geometry of underground excavations, particularly through the time sequence of the creation of yielding pillars, to control stresses. The time sequence is devised such that all the primary stress envelopes are transformed into a single secondary stress envelope, surrounding the group of rooms separated by the yielding pillars. The secondary stress envelope provides protection to the roof and floor boundaries from all the external stresses. This stress relief effect removes the cause of roof and floor failure -- high shear stress in the weakly confined boundaries of underground openings. It thereby replaces artificial support with ground self-support, enabling simultaneous in¬creases in stability and percent recovery. Within limits which are still being explored and extended, the Stress Control Method has proven capable of overcoming the trade-off between stability and extraction ratio which has afflicted conventional mining methods. The application procedure of the Stress Control Method is outlined below in terms of the objectives, structure, and stages of a generic mine rock mechanics program for the site-specific adaptation of the time control yield pillar design technique.

Increased awareness and stricter enforcement of regulatory requirements for adequate rehabilitation of surface mining sites has made environmental planning an essential part of strip mine planning. Rehabilitation is site specific and should be based on data which relate to that site. Cost-effective spoil pile design to minimise erosion is an important part of rehabilitation. Spoil pile design is an integral part of strip mine design. QCT Resources Limited has provided a postgraduate scholarship toward research in this area. The controlling factors of spoil pile design are post-mining land use, drainage requirements and degree and rate of erosion. The extent to which mine design is controlled by these factors is determined by regulatory requirements. To plan acceptable rehabilitation programs, erosion processes must be accurately modelled, and a range of erosion prediction models are available. Useful prediction models can be placed in two categories with the first category containing soil loss prediction models which can be used to predict the amount of soil lost from an area over a short or long term basis. Models in this category include the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE), Water Erosion Prediction Project (WEPP), Griffith University Erosion and Sedimentation System (GUESS) and Chemical, Runoff and Erosion from Agricultural Management Systems (CREAMS). The second category contains topographic evolution models which give an indication of the long term morphological development of a formed surface subjected to erosion processes. Models in this category include "Topog", Willgoose's Physically Based Catchment Evolution Model and Areal Nonpoint Source Watershed Environment Response Simulation (ANSWERS). The USLE has been used in the agricultural field for soil loss prediction. To apply the equation to mine sites in Central Queensland, it is necessary to understand the factors affecting erosion at the sites. This understanding should allow the variables of the equation to be quantified. The rainfall factor applied in the USLE is independent of engineering design or soil management techniques. The factor of spoil erodibility is dependent on the material's physical and chemical properties and can vary from site to site. In the equation, the topographic factor, cover and management factor and conservation practices factor can be varied by design to reduce erosion on rehabilitated areas.

The McArthur lead-zinc-silver deposit is of the stratiform type. It consists essentially of a mineralized bituminous shale sequence that incorporates tuffites, numerous graded beds, and isolated but massive slump breccia horizons.The principal sulphides are' pyrite, sphalerite, and galena. These occur mostly in the shales. The accompanying turbidites contain only minor mineralization.The geochemistry of the deposit has been investigated in relation to the stratigraphic column and mineralogy of the sediments.A sedimentary origin is proposed for the deposit. Volcanism, thermal spring activity, salinity, regional faulting, and climate are examined as possible factors that may have contributed to sulphide formation and which could be used as criteria for mineral exploration.The metallurgy 'of the McArthur deposit is discussed in terms of its geological history.

A model based on non-steady state has been developed for dissolution and diffusion in porous ore particles. Results from the particular model have been incorporated, as a rate term, into a global, heap-scale model based on a plug flow reactor at unsteady state. The global model can be used to consider leaching by aqueous-phase reagents in equilibrium with a gas- phase component, such as oxygen gas, as well as strictly aqueous-phase reagents, such as cyanide. The flexibility of the model even allows predic- tion of the outcomes of using reagent sideflow injection in large heaps. Data from column leaching tests are compared to the model, and their relationship is discussed.

Roof falls are the major cause of fatalities in the, coal mining industry and the prevention of roof failure is a major concern of mine management. Many ground failures observed underground are associated with geological discontinuities such as fractures, faults, clay veins and sandstone channels inherent in the earth's crust (Rinkenberger, 1977). To properly design a mine requires an advance knowledge of such geologic discontinuities and this is not always available from exploration boreholes. The use of remote sensing for mine planning is a relatively new development, and is at present being used primarily by the Roof Control Support Branches of the Mane Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) in Denver and Pittsburgh. However, technical advances, coupled with public access to previously unavailable photographic products, make remote sensing a useful aid in the difficult process of mine planning (Jansky and McCabe, 1979). Remote sensing techniques are being used to predict the location of geological features in advance of mining which influence roof conditions. The features appear on photographic images as linears, which are plotted on a mine map and serve as a planning tool for mine management. Also, during development of entries toward a linear, mining personnel will be on alert for signs of unstable roof conditions which might normally go undetected. Preventive action can then be taken before a fall occurs. A confusing aspect in remote sensing, analyses is terminology such as linear, lineament, fracture trace and joint. In this report the term "linear" refers to a line-like appearance on an aerial photograph or satellite imagery which signifies a naturally occurring geologic feature no the earth's surface. The objective of this paper is to describe the use of remote sensing techniques as an aid in predicting geological discontinuities which might produce hazardous roof conditions to a mine operating in the Pocahontas No. 4 Seam in southern West Virginia. Mine projections and roof control plans will he developed based on this and other available information such as data from cored drill holes.

This paper records the results of the earth resistivity surveys made in the Godavari River in connection with the Ramapadasagar project. After describing the topographical and geological features of the area, the results of the investigation at the several sites have been mentioned. Further, a detailed account has been given of the resistivity methods adopted, the apparatus used and the interpretation of the curves. The resistivity measurements carried out over the water course have been specially outlined, and a review of the verification of the electrical indications by drilling in a number of cases, has also been presented. Introduction The Government of Madras has under consideration the Ramapadasagar project which is estimated to cost some Rs.660,-000,000 (about two hundred million dollars). The most essential feature of this project is the construction of a high dam across the Godavari near Polavaram for impounding the waters of this great river of South India, whose maximum discharge is 2 million cu secs in flood time. It is estimated that when the proposed reservoir is constructed, about one million tons of rice could be produced annually under irrigation. To those who have had any acquaintance at all with the recent distressing famine conditions which India has passed through and is still undergoing, the Lounteous effects which this project will bring about to the country in the future, are obvious. In the region of the proposed reservoir, the river flows for several miles through a hilly tract, hemmed in between flanks of hard, solid rock; but the river bed is mostly sandy. A few bore holes put down in this sandy bed touched rock at a depth of 180 to 200 ft. The river bed is about jo ft above the mean sea level (m.s.l.) and the bedrock was found at —125 to —160 ft m.s.l. The crest of the dam is proposed at +162 ft m.s.l. The proposed dam mould therefore be about 120 to 130 ft above the river bed, and the foundations would have to reach down nearly zoo ft below the bed at the deepest part. A number of alternative sites were proposed for investigation, and it became necessary to quickly ascertain the bedrock topography at these sites. Dr. M. S. Krishnan,* who was consulted in the matter, furnished a detailed account of the geological features of the region and suggested a geophysical investigation which the writer carried out from February to April 1944, employing solely the electrical resistivity methods. The total length of the survey lines for the electrical measurements amounted to 62,600 ft and the number of resistivity determinations was about 2500. Coal washability data can be used for assessing coal quality. However, the techniques of using these data to solve quality problems differ from one mine to another and certain problems may never really be investigated due to limitations of the available techniques. One promising way to overcome these limitations is by correct application of geostatistics.A geostatistical study on coal washability data was undertaken based on a data set of closely spaced in-pit bore cores. These bore cores were analysed consistently over a relatively simple geological area. The average distance between the drill holes was about lOOm. There were 78 drill holes available for the area after deleting the erroneous bore cores. During the study, nine extra closely spaced drill holes were drilled within a single mining block.A procedure to construct two coal quality models, a kriging or cokriging model and a simulation model, was proposed. The modelling results for the data above are discussed and results of a mine scheduling exercise based on the models developed are included.

"When designing segmental lining at a cross passage, modern solutions try to bear the loads transferred around the opening within the rings by using shear elements in the ring joints. Commonly used shear systems providing coupling are cam & pocket, shear keys, bicones and steel dowels. These solutions have advantages and disadvantages, but most importantly they have limits in their capacity to stabilize the lining at cross passages. With the help of 3D-FE-analyses for an opening of one segmental ring these different solutions are compared taking various ground conditions into account. As a result the capacity of the individual system is determined. Notice is made regarding the applicability of the system as well as the consequences for the design and the verification. INTRODUCTION The design of the lining at a cross passage is among the most difficult tasks when designing TBM-tunnels. At one time the bedding of the lining disappears due to the excavation behind the lining, at another the ring-structure is interrupted when parts of the lining are removed for the opening. The trick is to transfer the loads around the opening into other segments and to areas of the lining which are still supported by the ground. In the rings immediately at the cross passage this creates a distribution of forces within the segments that strongly deviates from that of the regular lining. The design needs to consider the boundary conditions of the respectively chosen solution for stiffening of the opening and its peculiarities in the modeling as well as in the verifications. In the past segments of steel or an internal strutting of steel (DAUB 2013) placed around the later openings were commonly used, see Figure 1. The application of a strutting from the outside to the rings is restricted to such circumstances when for example a connection from a shaft to the tunnel can be made in suitable ground conditions (Ring and Glomp 2012). Though steel segments provide a robust solution, they are expensive due to their laborious manufacture, the high proportion of construction steel required and the time consuming installation in the tunnel (Häfliger 2013). A strutting of steel requires extensive design and verification. The resulting structure usually weighs several tons and must be erected as well as demounted within the confined space of the tunnel, requiring suitable transport and assembly equipment. The cross section remains restricted, thus causing a bottleneck for TBM operations and hindering the works and installations for the cross passage works."

Mt Kasi in Fiji is a high sulphidation style of gold deposit exposed at a high crustal level. Individual alteration centres are localised at the intersection of cross structures within a through-going structural corridor, the Mt Kasi Fault System. A two stage alteration/ mineralisation model suggests that much of the high sulphidation alteration is derived from the initial rapidly moving gas-rich portion of the hydrothermal fluid. The gradual cooling and neut-ralisation of hot acid fluids by mixing with oxygenated ground waters forms the characteristic zoned alteration assem-blages which grade from cores of residual silica through silica-alunite to peripheral clays. The liquid-dominated phase of the hydrothermal fluid brecciates the competent, altered rocks and deposits sulphide mineralise-ation within the breccia matrix. High gold grades occur in the matrix-rich breccias and decline from the hydro-thermal fluid upflow to outflow zones.CSAMT (controlled-source audio magneto-tellurics) geophysics has been used to define the geometry of the alteration centres while strike slip movement on the major structures accounts for the dilational structural environment in which the ore hosting breccias form.

Aberfoyle's Hellyer Division has filtered very fine flotation concentrates using two different makes of pressure filter. At the Luina concentrator a Larox pressure filter was used to treat a combined Pb + Zn or bulk concentrate. At the Hellyer concentrator two Lasta pressure filters are being used to filter copper/silver, lead, zinc and bulk concentrates. Operating parameters and performance at both operations are described. In both concentrators it was found that correct cloth selection was critical and that cloth failures contributed significantly to downtime. Thorough preventative maintenance progammes were required to ensure adequate availability of both makes of filter.

There was an extensive mining and industrial exploitation of Russia, about 20 years ago, by Belgian, French and British capitalists; but the results were discouraging. It is said that the Belgian and French public together lost approximately $400,000,000, chiefly in the coal and iron industry of southern Russia. This loss is largely accounted for by the fact that most of the companies were formed, as usual in " boom" times, to sell stock; and that thorough investigations were not made. I11 1906, renewed interest was taken in Russian mines, especially in those of gold and copper, and a considerable literature is growing on this subject; but as yet I have seen no account of one of the large Russian mining estates. The following notes on such property, where the conditions are so different from those in the mining regions of the United States, should be of interest: This inadequate and probably somewhat inaccurate account is made up, partly from my own notes made on the ground, in the summers of 1904 and 1905, and partly from a volume on the geology and resources of the estate issued several years ago, containing surface- and mine-maps, and from a pamphlet published in 1904, giving a general account of the condition and prospects of the property. This pamphlet includes a report made in 1899 by Arthur L. Pearse, a member of this Institute. Both these books are in Russian, and were prepared by the Bogoslovsk Mining Co., which owns and operates the property. Articles in many other languages have appeared dealing with various matters connected with the estate; but I know of no other general account of it. A detailed study was undertaken on the effect of Fe+3 in combination with LIX64N during copper electrowinning from sulphate electrolytes. The results show that the presence of Fe+3 not only affects the current efficiency during copper electrowinning but also affects the cathode quality. The effect is enhanced by electrolysis parameters like temperature, circulation rate, current density, etc. No significant effect was found from the presence of Fe+2. The presence of Fe+3 along with LIX64N causes a synergistic effect and results in a drastic fall in current efficiency. Moreover, cathode quality is also affected. A pyramidal structure is favoured in the presence of Fe+3 but the presence of LIX64N along with Fe+3 promotes a ridge structure. Addition of thiourea not only causes modification of cathode deposits, but also a rise in current Efficiency.
