Froth flotation is a selective separation process and rarely used for beneficiation of limestone in the world as compared to other minerals and also mostly known conventional methods of up gradation of ROM including wobbling, selective mining, sorting, preblending etc. Limestone is mainly used in the manufacture of cement, steel and chemical industries. High grade limestone deposits are depleting day by day and the requirement of the industries have to be met by beneficiating the low grade limestone deposits in the world. And because of marginal quality of limestone, it cannot be directly used in cement industry. At ACC Madukkarai cement works, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, full fledged mineral beneficiation process is adopted to enhance the quality of low grade lime stone from 38-42 % CaO to 45-47 % CaO and silica reduced from 19-22 % to 11-13 % by use of oleic acid (commercial grade and vegetable origin) 0.38 kg/ton of limestone and caustic soda 0.05 kg/ton of limestone. In recent years, coal beneficiation has gotten considerable attention. Selective oil agglomeration has been accepted as the best method to produce clean coal with a high removal of pyrite sulphur. In this study, spherical oil agglomeration of Datong coal fines was carried out using diesel oil as a bridging liquid. The oil agglomeration has a surface properties based on coal cleaning technique. The effects of fundamental parameters have been investigated including the concentration of bridging liquid, the size of coal particle, the solid content of slurry, the agitation time and rate, pH, surfactants on the agglomeration performance and various salts on the ash rejection and removal of pyrite of the agglomerated products. The optimum conditions of particle size, diesel concentration, solid content, agitation speed and time, pH and the dosage of active agent have been determined as less than 8µm, 20wt%, 1200r/min and 10 minutes, 7.5g/t and 100g/t, respectively. Under these conditions the ash content in the products can be achieved 1.5% below, the ash rejection was up to 92%. It has been observed that ionic strength of the aqueous medium affects the agglomeration performance. The precombustion coal cleaning process based on improved selective agglomeration results in high ash and pyrite sulphur removals. Over 80% removal of pyrite sulphur can be achieved from run-of-mine coals by offering a more cost-effective sulphur reduction solution rather than any other SO2 removal technology. In addition, the removal of pyrite sulphur is very necessary for not only the prevention of environmental pollution but also economical reasons.

The ore comprise of chalcopyrite, valleriite, pyrite, pyrrhotite and so on. Serpentine and talc are chief gangues. Copper phase of the tail shows that mostly valleriite be losed in tail, 70% mineral of copper is valleriite in tail, so severity reduce the recovery of copper. The traditional flow-sheet in acidity mine pulp to flotat the valleriite, but copper-sulphur separated in high alkaline pulp, so the valleriite be losed else. Explores the characters of the valleriite?s surface, studys on the flow-sheet of flotat valleriite and copper-sulphur separated. In neutral mine pulp, adopt of cationic collector to flotat valleriite, adopt of hyposulphite to depressant pyrite in low alkaline pulp can advance the recovery of copper to 5.06%.

This paper presents the research on comprehensive recovery of copper, gold, silver and iron from tailings from high-intensity magnetic separation in Tonglushan Mine. By comparison of experimental results of three flowsheets?regrinding of tailings-conventional sulphidizing flotation, water heating enhanced sulphidizing flotation and acid leaching-sulphidizing precipitation flotation, it is concluded that regrinding of tailings-conventional sulphidizing flotation flowsheet has the best economical and technical performance and practicability. Regrinding and using the mixture of sodium hydroxamate and sodium xanthate are two of the notable technical characteristics of this best flowsheet. The system for comprehensive recovery of tailings has been put into production. It not only can recover the valuable minerals from tailings in Tonglushan Mine, but also can reduce the environmental pollution, resulting great economic and social benefit.

This paper aims to study the influence and action mechanism of collector Y-89 on the flotation of auriferous pyrite. The measurement to identify adsorption quantity, IR and XPS spectrum analysis and flotation experiment made on the pure mineral were conducted. The research results show that when the dosage of MIBC is 20 mg/L, and pH of 8, the dosage of Y-89 over 60 mg/L, the pyrite recovery rate is greater than 80%.And when the dosage of Y-89is 60 mg/L, dosage of MIBC 20 mg/L, the pH in a wider range (pH=4~9), the recovery is greater than 75%. When the pH is above 10, the pyrite is depressed and its recovery rate is found to be dramatically dropping. Adsorption quantity measurement also shows that the strong alkaline conditions inhibit the adsorption of Y-89 on the surface of auriferous pyrite. IR measurement indicates that chemisorption of Y-89 occurs on the surface of auriferous pyrite. XPS spectrum analysis indicates that without adding Y-89, oxidation reaction occurs on the surface of pyrite. But when Y-89 is added, the chemical environment of Fe on the surface of pyrite has changed. Such findings indicate that with Y-89, chemisorption occurs on the surface of auriferous pyrite.

The aim of the present paper is to review the current technologies for arsenic removal in the copper metallurgical industry, and to show the progress made with some promising emerging strategies, involving the pre-treatment of copper-arsenic concentrates by selective flotation or by alkaline leaching with Na2S-NaOH solutions. The advantages of alkaline leaching are the selective dissolution of arsenic and antimony, the high extraction yield, and the practically nil loss of copper, which remains in the clean copper concentrate as a CuS residue. Alkaline ?cured? ? a procedure similar to ?acid-cured? in conventional leaching ? improves arsenic extraction and reagent consumption, making this an interesting technology for the treatment of high As-Sb concentrates. In light of recent advances on the selective flotation of enargite and tennantite, the importance of redox conditions to control the flotation/depression of enargite-tennantite from copper sulfides has been well established. However, problems of selectivity must still be solved. Additionally, the limitation imposed in some cases by the need to recover the molybdenum by-product must be considered. The application of selective flotation to obtain a high-arsenic or ?dirty? concentrate and its sub-sequent treatment by the alkaline leaching process is suggested.

"The triboelectric charge attributes of feldspar, quartz and wollastonite minerals, after contacting different triboecharging medium made of different materials, were considered. Their charge acquisitions by different size fractions of minerals were monitored and accordingly their energetic work function values were estimated. Moreover the separation behaviours of these minerals through the electric field of a laboratory free falling separator were determined and the effects of some chemical reagents on separation their separation characteristics were studied.Finally an attempt was made to translate the findings from single mineral systems to a complex silicate ore, containing quartz, feldspars, wollastonite and some other silicates. The results show favourable prospect to apply the triboelectric separation technique for beneficiation such a complex raw material."

The generation of froth with a critical degree of stability and height is an important aspect of the froth flotation. In this paper we have studied the synergism and anti-synergism in frothing behaviour in a mixed flotation collector/frother mixture (a model fatty acid; sodium oleate and a model frother; nonionic (polyethyleneoxide alkyl C14E6). Values of the collector / frother molecular interaction parameters (the ß-parameters) were determined from the surface tension data using regular solution theory. The frothing characteristics of the system were evaluated using a glass column equipped with a series of conductivity electrodes, which enabled the water content of the froth to be determined. From these measurements, the dynamic frothability and static froth stability were determined. It was concluded that the synergism/anti-synergism in frothability was depended on the molecular composition of the surfactant system, the diffusion of monomer to the thin film interface and on the breakdown of the mixed nonionic/anionic micelles.

"The profitability of mining and metallurgical operations continues to lag behind that of other industries despite the technical advances that have occurred in recent years. A primary reason for poor performing in this economic sector is the lack of integration of mining and metallurgical information. The mine cut-off grade can be optimized if mining and metallurgical engineers have the data to optimize milling for the type of ore in hand.Integration of mine transactions, stockpile inventories, process flows and assays is the key to determining the economics for each blast strategy in a mining site. Real-time information from manufacturing assets greatly affects the profitability and flexibility of a company, but gross errors from faulty sensors, inaccurate instrument calibration, or incorrect process models may corrupt actionable information. New software tools can model the process, sift through available data to identify and eliminate gross errors, and use statistical data reconciliation to create materially balanced and consistent readings. The reconciled data is unified for use by both monitoring and decision making processes.Creating a real-time information environment where upgrade and change are allowed is becoming an accepted methodology to accelerate and simplify the integration of applications such as production monitoring, equipment performance management and yield and inventory management.This paper describes the data integration requirements in a mine, concentrator and port for unification of the redundant data. The capture of the mining events, stock pile management and the metallurgical information is the base requirements for a dynamic environment to reduce the overwhelming amount of information to unified set of information. Part of any decision support program should entail these results to continuously improve the measurement system to address the costs in mine and milling the ore."

"Liberation is a key driver in all mineral separation processes as it limits the maximum possible grade for a given recovery. In flotation, this is further complicated by the fact that it is surface exposure of the floatable minerals that determines the ultimate performance. Liberation, grade and surface exposure are commonly quantified using Scanning Electron Microscopy coupled to Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDX) analysis of polished sections. The intrinsically 2D nature of this technique can result in significant sampling errors and stereological effects that can affect the quantification of the ore’s textural characteristics. X-ray micro-Tomography (XMT) is an imaging method that can non-invasively and non-destructively delineate ore fragments in 3D, thus providing an alternative method that eliminates the need for stereological corrections and readily provides surface exposure. A methodology and automated algorithm were designed for extracting this information from images of closely packed particles, thus allowing samples containing a large number of particles to be assessed.The main drawback of XMT is that, unlike SEM/EDX, it cannot directly measure the mineralogy of the sample, instead producing a 3D X-ray attenuation map. We therefore also present an algorithm for calibrating the thresholding of the XMT images based on SEM/EDX images of sections through the same sample, thus allowing the liberation analysis to be carried out on a 3D mineral map in which the uncertainty in the mineral assignment is small and statistically quantified.The methodology was tested on low grade porphyry copper ore as this is both an industrially relevant and traditionally difficult system to quantify using XMT due to the similarity in the X-ray attenuation of the sulphide species, especially the pyrite and chalcopyrite. As each 3D volume imaged contain 100-1000s of grains, large data sets can be readily produced. By dividing these particles into classes based on both their surface exposure and grade, the extent to which there is preferential breakage of the particles can be assessed—an important consideration if sufficient surface liberation for good flotation performance is to be achieved at coarser particle sizes. It is also shown that erroneous conclusions can be drawn when basing the analysis on 2D sections through the particles."

"During the flotation process of ilmenite and titanaugite with fatty acid as collector, unavoidable ions such as Ca2+, Mg2+, Al3+, Fe3+ and Fe2+ demonstrate considerable influence on the floatability of the minerals. In this study, flotation test, zeta potential test, and solution chemistry calculation were adopted to investigate the mechanism of how these metal ions affect the floatability of ilmenite and titanaugite in different pH conditions. The results show that in weak acidic solution, Ca2+ and Mg2+ mainly freely exist in the solution with little adsorption on mineral surface, and their reaction ability with oleate ions is weaker than active site on ilmenite surface (Fe), thus they show negligible effect on the flotation of ilmenite; Al3+ shows similar reaction ability with oleate ion compared to Fe3+, which lead to competitive reaction with collector, so the flotation of ilmenite is depressed. While Fe3+ can adsorb on surface of titanaugite in the form of Fe(OH)3, and it shows stronger reaction ability with oleate ion compared with active site on titanaugite surface (Ca and Mg), which proves an activation effect on titanaugite flotation. In alkaline solution, all these five kinds of ions can adsorb on titanaugite surface, and the floatability of titanaugite will be activation. Based on the above analysis, it can be deduced that in the flotation system using fatty acid as collector, the adsorption of metal ions on mineral surfaces and the stronger reaction ability with collector than active site on mineral surfaces, are the two prerequisites for metal ions show activation effect on mineral flotation.INTRODUCTIONIn flotation pulp, the existence of metal ions is often inevitable. There are two sources for these metal ions: the first part is generated in grinding and flotation process due to the oxidation, reduction, corrosion or dissolution of minerals or grinding medium; the second part is from the flotation water or the addition because of the technology need. The metal ions in the pulp have a considerable influence on mineral flotation. Earlier researches are focus on the activation effect of mineral floatation by metal ions to obtain a higher flotation efficiency, many effective activators were found, such as Cu2+ activated sphalerite, Pb2+ activation wolframite, and Ca2+ activation quartz flotation, these metal ions have become the commonly used activators in industrial production. And many studies attempted to explain the mechanism of how metal ions affect the floatability of minerals. James (James et al, 1972) suggests that metal hydroxide precipitation is the main component leads to activation effect, while the study of Fuerstenau (Fuerstenau, 1976) showed that the metal ion hydroxyl complexes played significant role. In recent years, the reuse of mineral processing wastewater has attracted more attention (Rao et al, 1989; Liu et al, 2013; Wang et al, 2014), as a main component in flotation wastewater, the influence of “unavoidable ions” on flotation process still need in-depth study."

This study compares the use of an aminophosphonate chelating resin Purolite S950 and a sulphonic acid strong cation exchange resin Purolite C160H to recover nickel and cobalt from the synthetic bioleach solutions. Batch adsorption of metal citrate is performed as a function of metal citrate concentration (15~2000 mg/L) and solution pH (0.01M and 0.1M citric acid). The adsorption mechanism as inferred from the fit to Langmuir (LM), Freundlich (FM) and Redlich-Peterson (RP) models demonstrates that nickel citrate adsorbed onto C160H appears monolayer in comparison to that adsorbed onto S950 exists multilayer. In contrast, cobalt citrate adsorption onto both C160H and S950 agrees with the LM model. The results have shown that loading capacities of nickel and cobalt citrate onto C160H are 60 and 65 mg/g whereas those observed onto S950 are 16mg/g and 6 mg/g respectively. These are achieved in metal citrate prepared in 0.1 M citric acid. Resin regeneration is conducted in using 2 M nitric acid solution. The results show high efficiency of nickel and cobalt citrate elution from Purolite C160H. Findings from this study suggest Purolite C160H is a suitable adsorbent for recovering nickel and cobalt from bioleaching solutions.

The flocculation and dewatering behaviour of kaolinite (non swelling) and smectite (swelling) clay dispersions has been investigated using hydrolysable metal ions Mn(II) and Ca(II) and anionic polyacrylamide-acrylate copolymer (PAM) at pH 7.5 and 10.5. A pH-dependent, specific metal ion adsorption behaviour, accompanied by a marked reduction in particle zeta potential and slurry shear yield stress, was observed to have a profound influence on the colloid stability of both types of clays. Due to the differences in the cation exchange capacity, the smectite clay dispersion required a higher amount of metal ions than kaolinite dispersion to produce similar effects. The adsorption density of the anionic PAM at the negatively charged clay particle surfaces correlated well with metal ion hydrolysis and adsorption behaviour, all of which had a strong effect on slurry settling rate and extent of consolidation. At pH 7.5 where Mn(II) ions hydrolyse, metal ion and flocculant adsorption densities were both greater in the presence of Mn(II) than Ca(II) ions. At pH 10.5, however, where Ca(II) ions begins to hydrolyse, higher adsorption densities were observed for Ca(II) ions in comparison with Mn(II) ions, as the latter hydrolysed completely and precipitated. The metal ion mediated flocculant adsorption led to improved hydrogen bond driven particle bridging and facilitated charge neutralisation flocculation mechanisms which significantly enhanced the dewaterability of both clay dispersions.

The present study aimed to investigate the bioleaching efficiency of moderate thermophilic microorganism in a growth medium without Fe supplement on three different size fractions of spent catalyst obtained from petroleum refinery. All the experiments were conducted on shake flasks at a temperature of 65 °C and a pulp density of 10% (w/v) on three size fractions viz. 45-106 µm, 106-212 µm and >212 µm and a working volume of 100 ml comprising of 10 ml of microbial inoculums and 90 ml of Modified Kelly medium. The parameters like pH, redox potential, viable planktonic cell count and the amount of acid addition was measured and quantified on regular basis to follow the progress of the bioleaching. The pH varied much in the lag and logarithmic phase of the experiments but stabilized toward the stationary phase. The total acid additions in each batch experiment were determined the amount of Conc. H2SO4 requirement, which ranged between 683-757 kg/ton of spent catalyst. The redox potential values ranged between 625-650 mV, Ag/AgCl, but were very low ranging between 350-450 mV during initial period. The planktonic viable cell count ranged between 108-109 cells/ml active in the bioleaching system, without any toxic influence of the spent catalyst, but initially due to fall in redox potential and new environment for the microbes, their population was low. The leaching yield of Ni was found to be promising with very high leaching yield of 92-96% followed by Al as 61-62%, which means both Ni and Al leaching were favored by the moderate thermophilic bioleaching compared to the mesophilic bioleaching. There was very little difference in the leaching yield, when compared with different size fractions and hence grinding can be avoided prior to leaching. This process seems to be economical as no Fe source is supplemented together with no requirement of grinding and over all a biological process resulting for an eco-friendly process for future optimization of the metal recovery from petroleum refinery spent catalysts. Many thickener operations continue to be constrained by their ability to process consolidated underflows with high yield stress and associated rheological characteristics. To maximise separation efficiencies within a thickener operation the use of both engineering and reagents are always considered. BASF is developing a Novel Flocculant Technology (NFT), which combines both of these aspects to enhance the performance of the thickener operation, improving the areas of pumping efficiency, underflow density and throughput. The development progression through stages of laboratory scale batch test work to pilot scale dynamic testing has demonstrated the ability of BASF NFT to maintain effective flocculation performance whilst increasing the rate of underflow consolidation, and significantly reducing the associated underflow yield stress of the treated material. This paper will present application data through full scale dynamic testing conducted on a granite washing circuit to demonstrate the performance benefits that NFT offers to a thickener operation. Compared to the conventional flocculant treatment, within the operation parameters and conditions employed during the full scale trials, the NFT produced a reduction in underflow rheology (yield stress) of around 45 % relative to a given solids and improved the underflow consolidation by providing at least 20% relative higher underflow solids loading than the upper limit of the given typical thickener operation. "Banded iron formations are the major iron source for producing high grade concentrate. BIF are generally lower grade and more difficult to extract. In order to know how best to process BIF ore, it require comprehensive knowledge on ore bodies even in the early stages of the mining process. Geometallurgy combines geological and mineral processing information and allows for higher flexibility in response to changes in the plant feed when mining different parts of the ore. This can lead to economic benefits, owing to improved plant operation, yet is time consuming and correspondingly costly. The main focus of this paper work has been to develop a comprehensive geometallurgical testing framework for developing Yogi BIF low grade magnetite deposit located at Western Australia. In order to provide successful geometallurgical mapping, was collected data from several different disciplines (geology, chemistry, mineralogy) and parameters (physical properties, metallurgical response and geotechnical measurements) during drilling activities and test work. The investigation shown magnetic separation behavior of material had high variation and is most important element in the proper design of ore beneficiation plant. This paper provides an improved and efficient magnetic separation test methods used for the investigation of separation behavior and variability of the Yogi Ore deposit and evaluates their applicability and potential in the geometallurgical context. In this paper a small-scale magnetic separation has been developed that allows estimating from single pass separation test using small amounts of sample material. Verification of the evaluation method and validation was done with different mineral systems."

"The global demand for the copper metal is continuously increasing however, the high-grade copper ore deposits are constantly depleting. As a result, ore bodies with complex mineralogy characteristics and rich in arsenic-copper bearing minerals are increasingly processed. Arsenic-copper sulphides such as enargite can represent a significant amount of arsenic in concentrate, which causes high financial penalties by smelters. On the other hand, arsenic (As) is a highly toxic inorganic pollutant, which causes human health and environmental problems. Recent research studies have demonstrated promising results showing the possibility of separating arsenic-copper sulphides from copper sulphides using controlled pulp potential (Eh) flotation at laboratory scale. However, the selective removal of arsenic-copper minerals in real ore systems is not well understood. Two ore samples were selected from the Tampakan copper-gold deposit located in the Philippines named the HAS (high arsenic sample) and the LAS (low arsenic sample) samples and the mineralogical analyses were performed on both samples. The floatability of enargite in a batch flotation system under controlled pulp potential conditions was investigated for the HAS and the LAS samples. It was observed that it is possible to selectively separate enargite from other copper minerals after reducing the pulp potential to about -200 mV SHE at pH 11 in the LAS sample. However, no separation between enargite and other copper minerals was observed at a reducing potential for the HAS sample. Mineralogical analyses and surface chemistry studies were undertaken for both samples to find out the reasons for different observations. This study has an important implication in sulphide flotation to achieve sustainable development in the utilisation of arsenic-copper mineral resources. INTRODUCTIONAs the demand for copper is increasing, the extraction and development of resources including complex deposits is becoming necessary. These complex deposits often have issues such as: lower grade ores, floatable non-sulphide gangue, very fine-grained ore and therefore poor liberation and significant regrinding, mixed copper mineralogy, complicated galvanic interactions, economic levels of gold and silver, and high levels of impurities such as arsenic. There is currently no established methodology for separating arsenic-bearing copper minerals from other copper sulphide minerals by flotation. The possibility of separating arsenic-copper sulphides from other copper minerals by controlling the potential of the flotation pulp has been shown in previous studies. However most of these studies were conducted on single mineral systems and the selective removal of arsenic-copper minerals in complex ore systems is not well understood. The flotation behaviour of arsenic-bearing minerals within complex ores differs significantly from that of pure mineral systems due to the effects of mineralogical composition, the degree of liberation, and the surface oxidation. The understanding and manipulation of these effects can lead to improvements in the selective flotation recovery of arsenic-bearing species from complex ore systems."

They also measure socio-economic impact to insure the creation and demonstration of shared value.

"Copper-bearing gold ores have proved difficult to treat in conventional cyanide leaching process owing to prohibitively high consumption of cyanide by readily soluble copper minerals interfering with gold extraction. Cyanide leaching of gold from copper-rich ores can be improved by intensive cyanidation or application of physical and chemical pre-treatment methods (e.g., ultra-fine grinding, roasting and leaching). In this study, nitric acid leaching of a copper-bearing pyritic concentrate (0.3% Cu, 62 g/t Au and 110 g/t Ag) as pre-treatment prior to cyanidation was investigated. The mineralogical analysis of the concentrate has revealed that it is composed of mainly quartz (25%), pyrite (32.7%), sphalerite (5.37 %), galena (2.12 wt %) and anglesite (1.13 %). Arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite, covellite and bournonite were also detected as minor phases present. Previous studies carried out by the authors showed that direct cyanidation (1.5 g/L NaCN) of the as-received concentrate (d80: 80 µm) produced low gold (45% Au) and silver (46% Ag) extractions. Nitric acid pretreatment of the as-received concentrate was performed for 5 hours at 1-5 M HNO3 and 80oC. In these tests, 65% Cu/Pb and 94% Zn were leached. The nitric acid pre-treatment improved the extraction of gold and silver in subsequent cyanide leaching (1.5 g/L NaCN) to 82% Au and 87.5% Ag with a concomitant decrease (up to 54%) in cyanide consumption. It can be inferred from these findings that the removal of copper from the concentrate and the liberation of the occluded gold by nitric acid leaching as pretreatments can be appropriately employed for the treatment of the copper-bearing pyritic concentrate with high gold/silver content. INTRODUCTION Refractory ores are often characterized by their low amenability to cyanide leaching resulting low (often <80%) Au/Ag extractions (Bhappu, 1990; Celep et al., 2009; Marsden and House, 2006). One of the most common causes of refractoriness is the physical or chemical encapsulation of submicroscopic or fine-grained gold in sulphide minerals such as arsenopyrite and pyrite (La Brooy et al., 1994; Vaughan, 2004). To render refractory gold ores/concentrates amenable to cyanide leaching, the decomposition of sulphide minerals within a pre-treatment process to expose the encapsulated gold grains to the action of cyanide is required. In this regard, roasting, pressure oxidation and biooxidation are commercially used processes for pretreatment of arsenopyrite/pyrite gold ores/concentrates ahead of cyanide leaching (La Brooy et al., 1994). Presence of cyanide-soluble copper minerals in the ore leads to low gold recoveries and high cyanide consumptions under conventional cyanide leaching conditions. High cyanide concentrations (CN:Cu>4) should be employed to achieve high gold recoveries from copper-rich gold ores/concentrates. This may require recovery of cyanide from effluents. In this regard, SART Process (sulphidisation-acidification-recycling-thickening) employed industrially for recovery of cyanide and copper as a by-product. This process simply relies on the addition of sulphide (as Na2S, NaSH or H2S) to the leach solution prior to the acidification to pH 4-5. This results in the precipitation of copper as Cu2S and occurrence of free cyanide which is recycled to the leaching circuit after S/L separation (Dai et al., 2012)."

"More than 85% of phosphorous reserves in China occur as middle-low grade phosphate of sedimentary origin. The main gangues are dolomite, quartz, silicates, and clays. The characteristics of minerals are finely disseminated. Flotation results have shown that the floatability of apatite of this kind of ore is much worse than that of igneous and metasedimentary origin because of its high specific surface area. Although some effective depressants, such as naphthalene sulfonate and phenanthrene sulfonate, are used to decrease the MgO content in the P2O5 concentrate, its presence is still high (about 2%) in the Chinese concentrates. Meanwhile, the wastewater may cause some environmental problems. Batch flotation results and measurements of specific surface area and CO3 2- have revealed that there is a relationship between the floatability of apatite and the surface area.A two-stage flotation flowsheet, which includes a combination of direct and reverse flotation, was developed for beneficiating sedimentary phosphate ores. The direct flotation was conducted in an alkaline medium and most of the apatite and carbonate minerals floated leaving quartz and siliceous gangue in the sink. In the reverse flotation circuit, the floated product was further beneficiated in an acidic medium to eliminate the carbonate as a float product. Apart from the high quality of concentrate, the two-stage flotation also facilitated the treatment and the recycling of wastewater. A wastewater recycling procedure was developed and tested in a continuous flotation process. The key factor was the careful selection of effective and non-toxic reagents."
