The present study investigates the nature of gold mineralogical distribution and association in a Cu-Au flotation circuit (1.6 g/t Au, feed head grade). The approach used in this study involves a combination of bulk gold assay and quantitative X-ray diffraction (QXRD), on a size-by-size basis, followed by QEMSCAN analysis on the -75+53 µm, -53+38 µm and -38+20 µm size fractions. The QXRD and QEMSCAN analysis showed that gold mineralogy is complex and fine-grained in the flotation feed, particularly in the -38+20 µm size fraction. Gold and pyrite concentration follow each other closely, suggesting gold-pyrite association. Quartz as the major gangue mineral shows a bi-modal distribution with respect to particle size. The identified gold particles were completely locked (~94 %) in pyrite as fine inclusions and 6 % locked as complex aggregates (-75+53 µm size fraction) whereas in the -38+20 µm size fraction, the identified gold grains occur as fine inclusions (~1-3 µm) within pyrite and silicates. However, in the intermediate size fraction (-53+38 µm), 75 % of the identified gold grains (10-22 µm) were over 90 % liberated and 25 % associated and locked in pyrite and complex aggregates (~2-4 µm). The identified gold grains in the -53+38 µm size fraction occurred as native and electrum with varying silver concentration between 8 and 20 % by weight. In the -38+20 µm size fraction, a gold telluride was also identified. Based on the mineralogical analysis of the feed, possible flotation strategies are discussed. During the 9 years ended December 31, 1938, 188 fatalities resulted from preventable accidents in and around the coal mines of Indiana; 173 of these occurred at underground mines and 15 at stripping or open-cut operations. In addition, there may have been other unrecorded fatalities during this period. The two organizations receiving notice of accidental deaths at coal mines in this State are the Division of Mines and Mining and the Indiana Industrial Commission. Only deaths occurring at underground mines employing 10 or more men are reported to the former, as neither strip mines nor underground mines employing fewer than 10 men cone within the purview of the Indiana mining law. The mine inspectors have no Jurisdiction over this latter group of mines and do not inspect them. Fatalities at small "wagon" mines and open-cut operations are supposed to be reported to the Industrial Commission; however, in many instances deaths at small mines are not reported, the only record being a death certificate filed with the county or corporation health officer. Thus, many deaths in small mines escape attention, especially when the victim succumbs some time after the injury was received. The data presented here on fatalities in Indiana, during the past 5 years include several instances in which the only record available is a death certificate; possibly others have been overlooked. From 1934 to 1937 the fatality record was progressively worse, that of the larger underground mines in 1937 being more than twice the average for these mines for the previous 4 years and only slightly less than twice the average for all mines, including open-cut operations. The increase in deaths during 1937 was due to two explosions, with 20 fatalities in one and 2 in the other. The number of deaths in the larger underground mines was considerably less in 1938 than in the previous 4 years, but there was no improvement in the number of fatalities at the small mines, or at open-cut mines.

This paper addresses establishment of an experimental system for measuring biodynamic response (BR) of hand-arm system at the NIIH in Japan. BR measurement system at the NIIH is nearly equivalent to NIOSH installed system. The feasibility of the system is examined through the apparent mass (AM) measurement of the empty handle and a set of calibration masses. Apparatus The grip force was measured by using the handle shown in Fig. 1. The handle has two force sensors (KISTLER, 9212) and one accelerometer (PCB, 356A12). A low-pass filter with 5 Hz cut-off frequency was used to the grip force from measured force signal. Figure 2 shows BR measurement system in this study. The push or pull force at the handle was measured by using the force plate (KISTLER, 9286AA). The grip force and the push / pull force were displayed on a monitor. The shaker (IMV, VE-100S) is used to vibrate the hand-arm system along the forearm axis (Zh direction) (ISO 10068, 1998; ISO 5349-1, 2001). In most situations force actions for operating tools are expressed by grip, push, pull and combined these actions. These actions can be simulated in the test system. AM was obtained by performing H1 estimator in the PULSETM system (B&K, 3109) and it is denoted at the one-third octave band center frequencies. [ ] Methods In order to investigate the reliability of the system, AM measurement of the handle was performed. It is assumed that the handle is rigid in the upper limit of adoptive frequency range in this study. This assumption is validated in AM measurement of the empty handle. A pseudo-random vibration in the frequency range of 10 to 1,250 Hz was used and its amplitude is 1.0 (m/s2)2/Hz with a flat power spectral density (PSD) in the experiment. Measured AM includes the mass effect of the measuring cap in a subject experiment. Compensated apparent mass AMc(?) is obtained by Eq. (1) 1-2.

"Abstract - The Little Falls member of the Nepisiguit Falls Formation is situated in the northern part of the Brunswick Belt of the Bathurst Mining Camp and has been interpreted as the distal equivalent of proximal tuffaceous rocks that host the stratiform Brunswick No. 12 and No. 6 Pb-Zn massive sulfide deposits. It comprises fine-grained, greenish-gray tuffaceous sandstone in the lower part, and coarse-grained, crystal-rich tuffaceous sandstone in the upper part. Petrographic evidence suggests that these rocks have a turbiditic origin. The Little Falls member is underlain by the Vallée Lourdes member, mainly composed of relatively shallow-water calcareous rocks, and is conformably overlain by Mn-rich sedimentary rocks, mainly red argillites that host the Tetagouche Falls Mn-(Fe) deposit. All these rocks are considered to belong to the Nepisiguit Falls Formation, part of the Ordovician Tetagouche Group. Whole-rock geochemical data from the fine-grained tuffaceous sandstone and coarse-grained tuffaceous sandstone indicate that the two units of the Little Falls member are distinct. Zr and TiO2 contents, and total rare earth element (REE) values are higher in the coarse-grained unit (average Zr/TiO2 = 0.040, average SREE = 247 ppm, n = 6) than in the fine-grained unit (average Zr/TiO2 = 0.048, average SREE = 158 ppm, n = 17), which can be attributed to the variation in crystal content between the two units. Both units are HREE-enriched and have elevated La/Yb relative to the typical Nepisiguit Falls Formation. Overall, the geochemical data combined with evidence from the bounding units suggest that the Little Falls member was deposited in relatively shallow water, possibly in a near-arc environment. The relationship of volcanic facies within the Nepisiguit Falls Formation and the geochemistry of these facies indicate strongly that fine grained, reworked tuffaceous rocks, regardless of whether they are the distal equivalents of proximal tuffaceous rocks, are not associated with the major ore-bearing horizons of the Bathurst Mining Camp. Ferroalloys are integral part of steel melting process. The purpose of using ferroalloys is three fold e.g. killing of steel, modifying the slag composition and steel alloying. Amount of ferroalloys used for alloying is subject to requirements of steel properties e.g. yield strength, ductility, formability etc. Variety of ferroalloys (some-times pure metal) is used by steel industries depending upon their techno-economic feasibility. Size, chemistry and modes of addition of ferroalloys are suitably engineered to bring in operational consistency and cost benefits. Of late, Tata Steel has tried out a few ferroalloys for the first time with interesting results to meet the specific requirements of high strength interstitial free (IF) and micro-alloyed steels. Some of these ferroalloys have been put into regular use with complete or partial replacement of ferroalloys used earlier. Size of one of the ferroalloys has also been modified without any other adverse effects. This paper summarizes requirements of ferroalloys for the steel industry with special emphasis on recent trials.

Uncertainty estimates on coal resources were computed as part of the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Coal Resource Assessment study of more than 60 coal beds and zones in the Appalachian Basin, the Colorado Plateau, the Gulf Coast, the Illinois Basin, and the Northern Rocky Mountains and Great Plains. The estimates were made to provide zone specific measures of uncertainty on the historical categories of geological assurance, namely measured, indicated, inferred and hypothetical. Previous estimates were based solely upon distance from a drill hole. These new estimates incorporate site-specific variability and spatial correlation and indicate that there is considerable difference in variability within and between regions. Uncertainty estimates for the measured category are discussed in this paper.

Tas McKee did his utmost to rejuvenate the mining industry, using the latest technology and an understanding of the environment far ahead of his time. Today, advances in the geosciences enable sophisticated exploration to proceed to the drilling stage before any significant environmental disturbance is created. Thereafter developments are now carried out with integrated management of the environment and rehabilitation so that disturbed land can be used for other purposes once mining is finished. Thus, we now have environmental engineers and scientists taking their place as professionals in our Institute.

"INTRODUCTION During the summer of 1945 the Bureau of Mines made approximately 200 miles of reconnaissance magnetic surveys in north-central Mirnesota. The survey started near the western end of the Mesabi Iron Range and extended into the area to the southwest, west, and northwest and also southward to the-northern limits of the Cuyuna Iron Range. The purpose of the survey was to data to assist exploration for iron ore in the region through:1. Supplying a relatively unit form network of traverses, by which and future surveys of localities in the urea ray be correlated. Suggesting localities in which more detailed magnetic surveys may be justified, and, Disclosing localities in which there is lass hope of obtaining significant results from further magnetic surveys.The instrument used was a Hotchkiss Superdip, and traverses for calibration and comparison were run with a Schmidt-type magnetometer. Field observations and work directly related thereto were carried out under contract by E. J. Lang-year Co., Minneapolis. Engineers of the Bureau of Mines planned, directed, and reviewed the survey."

During the last 30 years, a dramatic increase in the supply of byproduct sulfur substantially reduced the share of the market held by Frasch-mined (non-by-product) sulfur in North America. Even though Canadian sulfur production is not discretionary, the geographic remoteness from the large US markets and the high transportation costs associated with delivering sulfur to those markets has meant that Canadian producers act like discretionary producers in many important ways. They have effectively replaced the US Frasch producers as the cost-marginal sulfur source to large US markets. Implications of this change in market structure include more volatile sulfur prices and longer sulfur price recessions.

"INTRODUCTION The Krausse Estate property was the site of the first lead silver mining in western Kentucky, which began with the sinking of the Andrew Jackson shaft in 1835 3/. The earliest miners considered fluorspar of no value and threw it upon the waste dump, but Crittenden County later became an important part of the western Kentucky and southern Illinois fluorspar district 4/, which has produced about 90 percent of the fluorspar mined in the United States. By 1945, approximately 35,000 tons of fluordpar ore had been produced from the Estate property.This property can be reached by traveling west from Marion on Highway 60 from 2.5 miles, than northward 3 miles. The road from the paved highway to the mines is very rough but not impassable even in bad weather. Ore is hauled 5 1/2 miles by truck to custom mills at Marion, a town of 2, 000 population, where the Illinois Central Railway was a freight station.Hurricane Creek runs through the eastern part of the property. The surface slopes steeply upward to west from the creek, and the topography is rough. The top of the hill is about 150 feet above the creek.The climate permits working throughout the year, but spring rains cause surface water to enter mine and water apparently drains southward along the fractured fault zones, so that when no water is being pumped at properties north of the Krausse Estate a heavy flow comes on the Krausse."

Solution mining followed by solvent extraction-electrowinning (SX-EW) is one possible way to economically extract copper from ore bodies which cannot otherwise be profitably exploited. Published costs for the unit processes of SX and EW are out of date especially in view of the newer reagents now available and the newer circuit configurations, This paper updates the costs for SX-EW in 1985 dollars and also discusses some of the trade-offs which must be made when designing an SX-W plant.

The 50 ohm resistorized electric detonator is commonly used in the oilfield for initiation of wireline conveyed perforating guns and other downhole explosive tools. This type of electric detonator provides some degree of safety above that of the conventional one ohm electric detonator, since a higher current level is required to initiate the device. In order to obtain the necessary data to develop safe distance tables from RF sources for the 50 ohm electric detonator, laboratory tests were conducted to determine the detonator’s “no-fire” current, AC impedance, and its susceptibility to ESD. The results were surprising as two types of failure modes were observed. The “no-fire’ current levels determined from Langlie “One-Shot” Test Methods were determined for the devices tested providing values for the 0.999 probability “no-fire” power level at a 95% confidence level. This data will serve as the basis for sets of safe distance tables from RF sources that will appear in the forthcoming edition of the Institute of Makers of Explosives Safety Library Publication 20, “Safety Guide for the Prevention of Radio Frequency Radiation Hazards in the Use of Commercial Electric Detonators, (Blasting Caps)”.

This work concerns the removal of zinc(II) and COD by means of sawdust obtained as a by-product from locally used wood. The zinc(II) and COD removal study has been carried out batchwise where the influence of physico-chemical key parameters such as tree species, pH value of solution, temperature and contacting time and dosage of adsorbent have been considered. The maximum percent removal was attained at pH 9 all for Zn(II) and COD after about 60 min. The adsorbent can be effectively desorption using 0.1 M HCl. The experimental results showed that ion exchange maybe the major adsorption mechanisms for binding the divalent metal ions to the sawdust. Sawdust was a potential adsorbent for the removal of Zn(II) from the effluent of electroplating industry.

The assurance of future raw materials supply to the EU mineral industry has become, in recent years, one of the most important tasks of the EU Commission. It is focused on creation a new mineral policy within the EU zone. One of the starting points for this activity was identification of the mineral commodities that are critical for the sustainable development and technological progress. The paper presents the glance to this problem from the National Member level. Domestic mineral reserve base as a possible source of critical raw materials for the EU was shown. Poland cannot be considered as its resource base. The source of these raw materials are not only scarce in Poland, but also they are not produced, and their demand is now - and according to forecasts is going to be in the future - met by imports. The raw materials in question are not considered exactly critical for Polish economy, but they are of limited economic importance. On the other hand, their growth is a best opportunity and at once the need to the future sustainable development.

The Ten Section oil field is located in the San Joaquin Valley in Kern County, California. about 12 miles southwest of Bakersfield in Township 30 South, Ranges 25 and 26 East. The accumulation is in a low relief anticlinal dome and has a productive area of approximately 2,200 acres. Discovered in 1936 as a result of seismic work, it was the first field on the floor of the Valley to obtain production. It had a small primary gas cap, and since its inception has been produced by depletion with controlled withdrawal from the gas cap to minimize blowthrough. STRUCTURE AND STRATIGRAPHY The Ten Section structure is an elongated anticlinal dome with flank dips of only about 7 degrees. A map of the field, now fully developed, and a composite log are shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Contours shown on the map are on the top of the first zone, or Marker XA as indicated on the composite log. As shown, the field has a productive closure of only some 350 feet, and there apparently is no faulting in the reservoir. The productive measures in Ten Section are of Upper Miocene age and are known as the Stevens sand. They contain thin, irregular shale or siltstone streaks which vary considerably in stratigraphic position and thickness and apparently are rather discontinuous. As a result, individual sands and shales cannot be correlated over any appreciable area, which makes it difficult to subdivide the sand body into separate zones which are distinct throughout the field. However, there are two fairly persistent siltstone bodies that at the time of development were considered to divide the productive measures into three - zones. The first, or uppermost zone is productive over the entire field and has an average thickness of 180 feet, of which some 65 per cent is sand. It had a primary. gas cap in the crestal area with an areal extent of 930 acres. The second zone has a productive area somewhat smaller than the first zone, but it did not have any original gas cap. It has an average thickness of about 360 feet, of which 55 per cent is sand. The third zone has a very limited areal extent and a maximum productive thickness of 100 feet, of which 80 per cent is sand. Recently, a deeper oil accumulation, termed the "53" sand, was discovered, but it is not discussed in this analysis. In the first and second zones the water table was at 7,980 feet subsea, while in the third zone it was at 8,080 feet subsea. RESERVOIR CHARACTERISTICS Sand Characteristics The Stevens sand in Ten Section is hard and well consolidated, and numerous wells were cored for core analysis. Core data on four representative wells are shown, plotted beside the electric logs in Figs. 3 to 6. The average porosity is 20 per cent, with porosities ranging from 15 to 30 per cent. It is estimated, from cores taken with oil base muds, that the interstitial water content is about 40 per cent. The average weighted permeability is approximately 140, with measured permeabilities ranging from 10 to 3,000 md. As might be expected with practically no correlation of individual sand
