The Industrial Minerals Milling Section of the Mineral Processing Division has been engaged for the past three years in a study of the separation of minerals, by means of electronic sorting equipment, on the basis of their colour. Considerable knowledge of the subject has been built up. Because the object of this study is application as a means of beneficiation, a number of examples of the separations achieved are presented. Introduction T 0 the mineral collector, the colour of a mineral may be pleasing, even fascinating; to the mineralogist, student or professional, it may also be practical. It serves, to some extent, as a distinguishing feature in many minerals, and helps to fix with reasonable accuracy the identity of a few. It may now become a useful tool of the mineral dresser. The idea of using a difference in colour as a means of separation of one mineral from another is not new. Hand sorting dates back to ancient time. However, the means by which this can be done mechanically was developed only during the past decade. "Unconventional gas and geothermal reservoirs are typically naturally fractured and therefore the challenging problem of hydraulic fracture (HF) growth through naturally fractured rocks is an important issue especially for the development of accurate predictive HF models. This paper presents results from laboratory experiments in which HFs have been created in both sandstone and crystalline (gabbronorite) rock specimens such that they impinge either orthogonally or at an oblique angle on an unbonded, machined frictional interface. Depending on the conditions of each experiment, the fractures either cross or are blunted at the interface. The growth behavior was ascertained for these experiments based on a synthesis of the injection pressure record, active ultrasound monitoring, and direct post-experiment inspection of fractured specimens. From these experiments we observe: 1) A contrast between direct crossing and crossing with an offset for orthogonal and oblique intersection, respectively, 2) Apparent independence of crossing/blunting behavior on the friction coefficient for orthogonal intersection, 3) Dependence of the stresses required to promote crossing on the intersection angle between the HF and NF, 4) Existence of cases in which the hydraulic fracture crosses but then essentially ceases propagation such that all fluid is diverted to the interface. INTRODUCTIONHydraulic fracturing is a vital technology used to increase the productivity of oil, gas, and geothermal wells. Predicting hydraulic fracture (HF) growth is, in turn, critical to design of hydraulic fractures that grow to the desired length, accept the desired amount of proppant, and remain contained in the reservoir without unwanted height growth into surrounding layers (e.g. Economides and Nolte, 2000). The importance of HF modeling has prompted 6 decades of research during which simulators have become more efficient, more accurate, and have addressed a growing range of complexities (see review of e.g. Adachi et al., 2007).One of these complexities is the interaction between HFs and mechanical discontinuities such as natural fractures (NFs). Efforts in this area have been mainly driven by development of unconventional (i.e. low permeability) oil and gas resources because essentially all viable low permeability reservoirs, including shale gas/oil reservoirs, are naturally fractured to some degree (King, 2010). One of the most important questions for developing effective HF stimulation strategies in these reservoirs is whether the hydraulic fracture(s) is/are expected to be single-stranded or whether interaction with the NFs will lead to network-like growth. The basic building block for numerical simulators that can address this question (such as Kresse et al., 2013 and Weng et al., 2014) is whether an HF that intersects an NF will cross the NF or whether its growth will be captured by the NF so that additional fluid injection pressurizes the NF but does not generate ongoing growth of a new HF. These scenarios, including subcategories such as crossing with an offset, have been recognized for several decades (Daneshy, 1974; Warpinski and Teufel, 1987, and as recently reviewed and expanded by Chuprakov et al., 2013)."

The orebodies at Copper Mounta1n lie along and within a few hundred feet of the contact of an intrusive stock of gabbro with a series of bedded volcanic rocks of the Nicola formation. These. orebodies are all entirely within the volcanic series but in many cases the centre line of the orebody at depth is directly under the gabbro contact at the surface, due to a slight overhang of the gabbro. The gabbro and volcanic rocks are cut by a number of faults and fault zones which did not materially affect early mining operations, but, as undeground openings increased in size, the faults became more important factors in determining mining methods and procedure. Caving methods were adopted to take advantage of ground weakness in fault zones, and the effect of ground subsidence which resulted from the division of the ground 1nto large, independent blocks by faulting had to be considered in planning the sequence of mining of certain ore blocks. The faults have been divided into two classes: the longitudinal system and the cross faults, or 'breaks' as they are termed locally. In addition to the two classes of faults, the zones of parallel ore fracture also control mining procedure, but to a lesser degree, in regard to caving or ground subsidence. A third structural feature which influences mining procedure is the mine dyke system. The longitudinal or main fault system roughly parallels the gab? bro contact and is made up of a number of branches and auxiliary fractures. The main fault itself is essentially vertical, but there are a number of branches and fractures on each side of it which, though parallel m strike, may dip as flat as 50 degrees toward or away from the main fault. The full width of the main fault system has not been determined, but it is known to extend beyond the zone of mine workings. A marked schistosity follows the main fault and both schistosity and chloritic alteration have been noticed along the secondary faults of this system. Several prominent orebodies lie along the main fault and its branches. The influence of the main fault system on mining is probably related more to subsidence than to actual cavi.ng, although it is effective in both.

Of the twelve known ore zones on the Sunro property, acquired by Cowichan Copper Co., only the "B" and "C" orebodies of the "River Zone" had been explored sufficiently to indicate the grade and tonnage. The "B" zone was selected for initial production. The portion of this orebody above the main adit level was developed for horizontal-ring, longhole mining. Ore from the stope would be scraped directly to the coarse ore bin. The lack of a suitable mill site on surface, as well as the 8,000-ft. tramming distance, led naturally to the installation ground. I N November, 1960, a lease was obtained by Co-wichan Copper Co. Ltd. (N.P.L.) from Sunro Mines Ltd., covering the main ore (River) zone of the Sunro property. A total of twelve zones had been located on the property. Nine of these lay within the leased area. The current mining operations at Newmont Boddington Gold Mine (NBG) commenced in 2008, and commissioning of the processing plant started in the latter half of 2009. Metso Process Technology and Innovation were engaged to assist NBG with commissioning and project ramp-up through the implementation of a comprehensive ?Mine-to-Mill? Process Integration and Optimisation project. This methodology entailed extensive data collection which included drill and blast audits, ore characterisation, comprehensive comminution circuit surveys and review of operational data to assess the limitations within the current mining and processing operations. The results of these investigations have been used to define the operating base line of both the mining and processing areas and identify improvement opportunities. The use of modelling and simulations, utilising actual production data, has allowed for multiple scenarios to be evaluated, minimising the requirement for actual trials and thereby minimising impact on the operation. Improvements implemented to date include: the introduction of routine rock strength measurement for inclusion in block models, modifications to blast design improving ROM fragmentation and downstream comminution process performance, and changes to improve performance of secondary crushing and grinding circuits. Close cooperation between the mine and plant personnel is playing a significant role in overcoming the challenges presented to this operation and further improvements are targeted for the second full year of process plant operation.

"The processes leading to the fall of rock compartments from rock walls are poorly known as well as their velocity. It ensues that quantitative prediction of the failure time for a rock compartment which is presently stable, is not possible by a purely geomechanical approach. However a quantitative probabilistic prediction of rockfalls at the scale of a rock wall is possible if the spatial-temporal rockfall frequency can be determined or estimated (Hantz, 2011). For a better knowledge of failure processes and frequency, rockfalls have been detected in several rock walls, using annual terrestrial laser scanning, allowing comparison of the frequencies in different geological conditions. For one of these rock walls, the spatial detection have been completed by a precise dating of the events, using a quasi-continuous photographic survey (one photo every 10 mn), allowing the study of the influence of meteorological factors.The precise dating of rockfalls has been carried out for the Saint-Eynard cliff which towers above a residential area of the town of Grenoble (French Alps). The South-East facing cliff consists in bedded limestone gently dipping North-West and located at an elevation between 850 m and 1100 m. The surveyed zone is about 750 m large and 250 m high. Between 01/02/2013 and 26/11/2013, 65 rockfalls ranging between 0.01 m3 and 20 m3, have been detected by diachronic comparison of laser scanner data and dated by comparison of photographic images. The temperature at the elevation of the cliff has been calculated from the temperature measured (every 5 mn) at a meteorological station located at an elevation of 245 m and 2.5 km away from the cliff, using a temperature gradient of 0.003°C/m (D’Amato et al., 2014). The precipitation were measured 900 m away from the cliff at an elevation of 469 m. Different meteorological conditions have been defined: (a) “freeze” qualifies days with negative mean temperature (but with a thaw period, except for two days); (b) “thaw” qualifies days with positive mean temperature, but following a freeze day; (c) “rain” qualifies days with precipitation.Table 1 shows the rockfall temporal frequency for the different meteorological conditions. It appears that the frequency is about 6 times higher the freeze days, 2.5 higher the thaw days and 3 times higher the rain days than days without freeze, thaw or rain."

Total mineral production in Manitoba has averaged C$1 billion over the past ten years. Industrial mineral production has comprised almost 10% of the total, with more than half coming from the aggregate sector. In southeastern Manitoba, tantalum, spodumene and amblygonite concentrates, cesium and rubidium ores, cesium formate, dimension stone and sphagnum peat moss are produced. Gypsum, high-calcium limestone and lime are produced in the Interlake area. Early industrial mineral production consisted of tools and implements, salt and pottery. Historical production has included: salt, building stone, aggregate, lime and dolime, lignite coal, gypsum, natural and Portland cement, calcium bentonite, brick, light-weight aggregate, caustic soda and soda ash, and silica sand. Future industrial mineral production may come from reactivated quarries, pits and wells or from new producers of current commodities. Newproducts may include: stainless steel master alloy, silicon metal, titanium and magnetite, lithium carbonate, float-plate glass and ferrosilicon, "marble" dimension stone, magnesium metal, potash and kaolin.

"Coal spontaneous combustion (SponCom) is a natural phenomenon in underground operations, which can either happen naturally or be triggered by human activities. For underground operations, espe-cially in coal, SponCom can happen frequently as a result of air leakage, although its incubation period may vary depends on types of coal and surrounding environment, resulting in uncertainty in control. In China, most of the underground coal operations now use longwall mining method because of its superior safety, high productivity and efficiency. With an increased popularity, there is also an increasing necessity to study spontaneous combustion, its occurrence and management. There have been many theoretical analysis and experimental studies over the past half century hoping to understand the occurrence of coal combustion and its control measures to better understand the occurrence and to design controlling measures to limit the dam-age it causes. In this paper, research on coal spontaneous combustion fundamentals from these three aspects will be reviewed, gaps highlighted and possible directions for future studies. INTRODUCTION The history of anthropic development is the history of human's energy utilization progress. From the first usage of fire, people have been continuingly seeking energy resources on earth. Coal, as an abundant, economic and convenient source of fuel quickly became indispensable and made significant contribution to economic growth worldwide. With technology and societal development, people are becoming more and more coal-dependent, but at the same time, problems of fossil fuel combustion came into sight. In global coal mining industry, spontaneous combustion has now presented one of the most challenging safety issues, it is also believed that it has contributed significantly toward the climate change. It is essential that more effort be invested to examine the cause of SponCom and its control measures. Coal SponCom is a complex process, with both physical and chemical inter-actions among various interrelated factors such as local airflow distribution, ventilation pressure, methane emissions (if any), and physical surroundings underground. With the advent of powerful computers, simulation techniques and af-fordable modelling packages in recent years, significant advances have been made in understanding sponta-neous combustion. But because of the complex nature of combustion and varying underground conditions, there are still areas that need further examining. This paper will focus on illustrating the current research of coal spontaneous combustion and addressing research gaps and future study areas."

However, before concentrating in any detail on these it is important to understand the broad purposes and basic techniques of any accounting system in any major business.The three broad purposes of an Accounting System are:- Administering, controlling, and recording the flow of cash in and out of the business. Cash is, of course, converted into other assets (or stores of value) such as inventory, plant and equipment, etc. These assets also have to be administered, controlled and recorded.- Internal reporting to Management for information, for control, and for use in making business plans and decisions. - External reporting to stockholders, government, lenders and other outside parties.In this chapter we shall organize our discussion of accounting practice in mineral processing plants around these three purposes of accounting and focus in some detail on specific practices and techniques with which operating personnel will be routinely involved. "As rock engineering moves from continuum to more discontinuum approaches for modeling, the engineer must make decisions regarding the degree of complexity to simulate for a given application, balancing the level of structural detail within the rockmass model with computational cost and result accuracy. It is important to consider that model does not need to include all the existent fractures and that representative geometrical properties for a given rock mass volume can be defined including only major structural entities.Within this paper, the scale-dependency associated with the geometrical properties of fractured rock is investigated utilizing a Synthetic Rockmass (SRM) approach with a view to characterize such ground to aid in the design of geotechnical works. In terms of process, the concept of the Representative Elementary Volume (REV) is used to determine the equivalent structural properties of the rockmass in order to justify the applicability of far-field behaviour of such ground. A large size Discrete Fracture Network (DFN) measuring 60m x 60m x 60m has been generated using the structural data obtained from LiDAR scanning of the Brockville Tunnel, Ontario, Canada. A number of DFN samples of varying sizes are extracted from the master network, generated using MoFrac, in order to be used as a the basis of the structural analysis of the rockmass. Volumetric measurements for the density and the intensity of jointing are employed in order to approximate the geometrical REV for the networks.In this paper a complete methodology of how to generate a DFN from LiDAR data and its analysis in order to determine the size of a geometrical REV is demonstrated. For the specific rockmass found in the area of the Brockville Tunnel, a geometrical REV measuring 3.5m x 3.5m x 7m is established. The results are generally in good agreement with the in-situ observations."

Corporate requirements are closely aligned with the GARD Guide principles of early geochemical characterization and prediction followed by selection and implementation of management strategies to prevent or minimize ARD. Each operation is required to design and implement an ARD and Mineral Waste Management Plan. Successful implementation of the plan requires commitment at all levels of the company, from senior management, to geologists, mine planners, environmental staff and equipment operators. Examples of the successful integration of ARD management strategies into mine operations are cited from several mines.

TODAY, man uses, at will, the land, the water, and the air to transport himself and his goods everywhere across the face of the world. He no longer thinks with wonder of the magic of conquering these elements - he takes his mastery of them for granted. He is, however, constantly striving to squeeze more and more efficiency from each mode of transport. Man's first method of transporting himself and his goods was, obviously, himself; then he acquired his first beast of burden - woman. Most other two-legged female animals carried their young around clinging to their fur. Human mothers were, generally speaking, furless and their offspring less 'Prehensile, and so slings and other trappings were invented to carry young children. Man's inventive genius soon adopted these devices for carrying other burdens, and for countless centuries woman carried all in order that man could walk unencumbered except by his weapons. Later other ?beasts of burden were trained and used, including dogs, horses, oxen, camels, etc. Man also discovered quite early that he could drag along the ground more than he could carry on his back.

WITHOUT transportation, mining would be quite impossible. Any person familiar with the operation of a mine knows full well that from the minute ore is blasted, it is kept moving until it reaches the treatment plant. In the mill, by means of conveyors and elevators, the ore is brought from receiving bins to one machine after another until finally its valuable mineral is separated from the gangue. The finished product must then be shipped -either by boat, rail, or motor trucks to industrial centres, where it undergoes further treatment and transformation into finished commercial goods. Everybody appreciates that the winning of an or-e includes, amongst various operations, the moving of large quantities of material of generally low value. Transportation, therefore, must be considered One of the most important factors in the economics of mining. My assignment, this afternoon, is not to treat of that phase of transportation as it directly affects mining operations, but rather to consider some of the aspects of overland transportation and its influence in bringing about the development of mining camps in Canada. I shall take the liberty of rapidly surveying conditions facing prospectors, mine developers and operators from the time a region is still in a pre-pioneering stage until such time as a mine starts shipping its concentrates.

Altonorte began as a concentrate roasting operation in 1988 under the name of Refimet. In 1993, a copper smelter was built with a design capacity of 203,000 tonnes per annum of concentrate. Since 2001, many technological advances have been made in Altonorte, where the biggest Noranda Reactor in the world is installed being the first Noranda Reactor reaching above one million tonnes of copper concentrates processed per annum. In 2013, Altonorte was acquired by Glencore. Recently due to various new environmental regulations in Chile, Altonorte has evolved to new standards of operation in order to reach the vision of becoming a World Class Smelter. This paper describes the path followed to improve safety, environmental performance, process capacity, reliability, and productivity. The foundation for the growth and success in Altonorte is our People. Employee engagement and branding of our cultural journey is what allows Altonorte to face the future with the certainty of becoming a World Class Smelter. INTRODUCTION Altonorte is located in Antofagasta, the mining capital in the north of Chile and is the last smelter built in Chile practically completed with second hand equipment. The biggest technological change in Altonorte occurred during the phase 3 expansion in 2003, where the old Reverberatory furnace was shut down and replaced by the biggest Noranda Reactor installed in the world. The vessel measures 5.3 m × 26m. ºAdditionally, this project contemplated a new rotary dryer, three (3) new Peirce Smith converters, new anode furnaces and a new Acid plant. The nominal capacity was to treat 816.000 tons of new concentrate per year. In 2008, a new expansion phase was implemented where a new double absorption acid plant replaced the oldest acid plant. Bottlenecks such as blowing capacity and oxygen availability were solved installing a new air blower and a new contract was negotiated with our oxygen supplier to increase oxygen availability up to 683 tpd. This improvement defined the current nominal capacity of 1.100.000 ton of new concentrate per year. Current process description All concentrates are received by trucks directly from domestic mines or from the Antofagasta international port in cases of imported concentrates; the concentrate warehouse has a capacity of 25 kt where the blend is prepared to feed the smelter.

WESTERN CAN ADA'S coal industry has experienced a serious set-back since 1949, following a pattern well known to its counterpart in the United States. The loss in coal markets in Western Canada has been particularly severe as the discovery of large reserves of oil and natural gas and the subsequent construction of re-fineries and pipelines roughly coincided with the dieselization of both main railways. While the coal industry will have to face a further decline in markets of long standing, others with a large growth potential can be se-cured if present marketing methods are changed where needed and if fundamental and applied research programmes are actively pursued. The energy and chemical potential of Western Canada's coals will eventually find their place in the ever-growing needs of industry and electric power producers. Electric power generation would appear to offer the largest and most immediate market for coal. If the coal industry is to serve this market adequately and gain as much of it as possible, coal operators ? must have a good knowledge of certain characteristics -of the electric utility industry and its fuel requirements. This paper is prepared primarily to set out some of these characteristics, but also discusses other probable markets for coal.

"In the context of today's continuously changing world, there are many factors which must be considered when attempting to assess the ability of Canada's primary copper producers to remain competitive in the face of increasing competition in world markets. In this paper, we have attempted to document those factors that will have the greatest impact on the future viability of Canada's copper industry, and to suggest possible strategies to fully utilize whatever inherent advantages Canada may have to enhance its competitive position. Technological factors related to the efficiency of precious and by-product metals recovery, energy type and utilization efficiency, production and sale of sulphur by-products, and control of 502 emissions are given high priority in this evaluation of Canada's future needs to remain competitive. Particular emphasis is placed on assessing the relative viability of hydrometallurgical versus pyrometallurgical processes for copper; to address uniquely Canadian conditions and problems. Due consideration is also given to the economic incentives required to allow Canada's copper producers to compete under anticipated world market conditions and to facilitate the continued development of Canada's copper resources. IntroductionWhen we try to assess the viability or competitiveness of any industry the bottom line is still usually, ""Can we produce a pound of product cheaper than the competition?"" Canada's copper industry is certainly no exception. However, as with most resource-based industries dependent upon exports, there are many factors which have a significant effect on the cost components which make up the total cost of producing and selling a pound of copper. It is desirable therefore to have as clear a picture as possible of the cost components, the major factors affecting them, and how they compare with the competition, particularly the third-world copper producers.In this paper we have attempted to provide a brief outlook for world copper markets and a brief overview of Canada's competitive position. We have also attempted to document those factors which will have the greatest impact on future production costs, and have suggested possible initiatives to utilize inherent Canadian advantages to enhance our competitive position. "Conveyed coal flows have been diverted on the basis of real time ash analysis since the 1980s. Many coarse particle separation methods are available through screens, jigs, heavy media separation, particle sorters, to name a few, however bulk diversion requires a representative, continuous analysis to ensure diversion decisions can be made with confidence. Sensors also need to be able to provide measurements at useful time increments so that small tonnages can be diverted for maximum selectivity. Particle separation typically requires high capital costs and there are limitations either in throughput tonnage or particle size or both. Few techniques are able to provide robust and representative analysis of conveyed flows in a useful time basis. Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis provides multi-elemental analysis of conveyed bulk materials and has been proven in the minerals industry since 2003. This paper outlines the success of this technology in minerals applications in iron ore, phosphate rock and most recently in copper-gold ores, including its use in bulk diversion.INTRODUCTION Naturally occurring quality variability, or heterogeneity, in mineral deposits enables separation and recovery of the valuable components through mining and processing operations. There are distinct advantages in processing the minimum quantity of material to achieve the highest possible yield. Unfortunately, declining ore grades has resulted in larger scale operations and a subsequent loss in selectivity for mining operations. As limits are approached on the practical size of equipment, there is more motivation to investigate alternative solutions. Mining companies are subject to increasing social resistance to growing waste disposal requirements in addition to higher energy and transport costs. Major savings are available by reducing the quantities of material processed where pre-concentration can be effectively applied at early stages in the process. One of the simplest ways to pre-concentrate is to measure the bulk material and reject waste soon after mining so that minimal expense is incurred and that only higher quality material is sent to processing operations. This bulk sorting can occur within the mining operations and has major benefits through energy and other consumables savings. This paper discusses the application of real time analysis technologies suitable for bulk sorting within the minerals industry. Technology that has proven representative for conveyed material bulk analysis and its successful applications to date is explained. Analysis using a sensing technique is only one component of a successful bulk sorting process; the importance of effective diversion systems and a bulk sorting strategy are also discussed. The bulk sorting stage may be one component of a system that could include additional downstream technologies such as particle based sorting systems on a diverted stream."

The Beaverlodge uranium mining and milling facilities operated from 1952 to 1981 with about 94% of the ore extracted from the main underground mine and 6% from smaller satellite deposits. Decommissioning work occurred from 1982 to 1985 involving periods of shutdown, salvage and reclamation. Transition phase monitoring, leading to eventual delicencing commenced in July 1985. Over the last 15 years, discharge from the tailings management facility (TMF) and a fresh water stream, impacted during the operational phase by tailings spills, has improved in water quality for most parameters of concern. Loadings to the environment of three key contaminants (radium-226, total dissolved solids, and uranium) have consistently been less than during the operational phase with radium-226 having the greatest variability. Outstanding environmental issues associated with the recovering drainage system formerly used for tailings disposal, are being addressed in an enhanced environmental monitoring program to commence in 2000. Changes in water chemistry and the natural re-introduction of aquatic organisms are issues of concern. In the meantime, application for release from selected satellite areas commenced in 1999. This paper reviews the issues which have arisen during the transition phase, outlines how they have and are being addressed, and provides a comparison of original and current predictions of the recovery process under way at the former Beaverlodge mine site.

Enargite (Cu3AsS4) is a major complex copper mineral and often is a carrier of invisible gold particles. Pyrometallurgical treatment of enargite is challenging due to the arsenic release to the environment. Hydrometallurgical treatment, on the other hand, appears to be a promising alternative for enargite processing. In an atmospheric enargite leaching process both the copper and arsenic from the mineral can be leached into a sulphuric acid solution and the arsenic can be simultaneously precipitated as ferric arsenate. The unlocked gold in the residue then can be recovered in a subsequent cyanidation circuit. The downside of the atmospheric enargite leaching in sulphate solutions is the slow leaching kinetics. In this study the effective parameters of the atmospheric enargite leaching process in ferric chloride media were investigated. All the experiments were carried out at temperatures below 100 °C. The process parameters that were investigated in this study included ferric, chloride, sulphate and cuprous concentrations, temperature, mixing rate and leaching slurry pulp density. It was found that the copper recovery rate increases with the addition of cupric chloride and also with raising the temperature. The highest leaching kinetics and the highest overall copper recoveries were achieved when cupric was initially added to the leach solution and at 90 ºC.

"The Silver Standard mine is 6 miles by road northwest of New Hazelton, B.C., a small town on the northern line of the Canadian National Railways some l 75 miles northeast of Prince Rupert. The deposits lie on the western slope of Glen Mountain (elevation 2,100 feet), with the main adit, mill, and campsite at 1,300 feet. The deposits were found in 1910, shortly after the area had been swept by forest fire and during a period of prospecting activity spurred by the construction of the railway. Crude ore only was shipped until 1918, when a 50-ton gravity mill was built which operated until 1922. Gross value of production of this period, at present metal prices, was about $1,000,000.In 1947 the present company was formed and a 50-ton flotation mill installed. Production from 1948 to 1955 has been in excess of $10,000,000, and net smelter returns about two-thirds of this amount. More than 60 per cent of the production and 80 per cent of the profit have come from one vein, No. 6. On the 1,300-foot level this vein had an ore section 375 feet long and 2.5 feet wide, averaging 0.18 ounces gold, 85 ounces silver, 10 per cent lead, and 16 per cent zinc.The mine workings follow a simple pattern. A series of parallel veins, striking northeast and dipping southeast, are numbered from 0 to 12, starting at the northwest. They lie within a zone trending south 70 degrees east, and the distance between Nos. 0 and 12 veins is about one mile. Recently several cross-veins, dipping northeast, have been found between Nos. 8 and 12. They are apparently of the same type as the others, though they may not have the same structural controls. They could be an important new source of ore.The mine has been developed principally by crosscut adits at the 1,500- and 1,300-foot levels and a 510-foot shaft with levels at I, 150, 1,000, ·and 850 feet. Drifts and crosscuts total 17,000 feet, chiefly on Nos. I, 4, 6, 7, and 8 veins. The drifts are stoped by shrinkage, top shrinkage rill, cut-and-fill with resuing, or open stope methods. The mill produces a lead-silver-gold-copper concentrate and a zinc concentrate, with indicated recovery of more than 96 per cent (4)."
