"This literature survey discusses the recovery of gold from thiourea solutions. An overview of techniques used and general comments on the basic cyanidation methods are presented. The chemistry and mechanisms of cementation, activated carbon, resins, electrowinning, solvent extraction and pressure reduction are examined. "The desirable shovel speed-torque curves are described, along with the characteristics of the more important electrical components used to approximate these curves. A particular shovel regulator system combining these components is discussed in detail and some of the advantages and disadvantages of the system are given.INTRODUCTIONIN 1959, STATIC CONTROL was for the first time successfully applied, installed and operated on a mining machine in North America. Since that time, a great deal has been learned about this control by the people maintaining these machines as well as by the de-signers.In 1961, the first SCR (Silicon Controlled Rectifier) or thyristor control system was installed on an excavator. This control differed from the earlier static control in that thyristor excitors supplied the generator fields directly. The development of thyristors of a sufficient rating to supply amounts of phase-controlled power to the generator fields eliminated the bulky Mag. Amp. -Rectifier combination previously used."

"IntroductionRECENT ADVANCES in geo-chemistry and in •our knowledge •of crystal structure provide a key which enables us to create a systematic picture of the genesis of many ore deposits. This genetic scheme may be used with confidence in assessing certain types of orebodies and may be of some aid in actual exploration, since it affords a rational explanation of the dependence of the composition •of the ore minerals on that of the rock type in which they occur with which they -are •associated. For purposes of the present paper, .the elements chosen are •chromium, vanadium, iron, and titanium. The oxides of all these metals occur in deposits of similar or related type, and it is proposed to show that, for each, the composition of the •ore mineral is related to •the composition of the enclosing :rock, and that one of the principal factors controlling the composition of the ore is the ionic size of its constituent elements.Geochemical PrinciplesThe crystals of the rock-forming silicates and of the magmatic oxide minerals are essentially ionic types. This means that they are composed •of oppositely charged ions such as Mg²+ and 0²-, which are held together by electrostatic attraction. The ions of each element are spherical, with characteristic size known as the ionic radius. Crystals are built up by the packing of these spheres in the most stable arrangement compatible with the size and the size and valence of the ions• involved.Many of the principles governing the formation of ionic crystals are •simple ,and logical."

DURING the summer of 1953, test work commenced at the Sullivan Concentrator with a view to the modification of filtration practice by the inclusion of wet cyclone classification of the lead concentrates, with separate filtration of the underflow and overflow products. Formerly, practice was conventional and the equipment employed comprised one 50-foot diameter thickener ?with the underflow routed via a 20-foot stock tank to two 8-foot by 12-foot Oliver filters. Heating of the filter feeds to 40° C. and the use of mechanical slappers on the filter drums ?have both been standard features of Sullivan practice for years. Both of these have been retained. Currently (February, 1956), lead concentrates are being classified into sands and slimes by 12-inch cyclones with the underflow, at 75 per cent solids, being fed to No. 1 Oliver filter. The overflow is thickened to 75 per cent solids and filtered separately by a No. 2 Oliver filter . The tonnage split is approximately two of underflow to one of overflow. The overflow contains 75 to 80 per cent of the total minus I 500 mesh slimes in the feed.

"Novel silicate-alginate composite beads containing 2-ethylhexyl phosphonic acid mono-2- ethylhexyl ester (P507) were synthesized and applied for the adsorption of Nd3+ from aqueous solutions. The adsorption amount of Nd3+ has been increased owing to the introduction of P507. The effect of equilibrium pH (pHe), the kinetic and isotherm experiments were investigated. The adsorption reaches equilibrium at 9 h and the maximum uptake capacity is up to 195.4 mg/(g dry adsorbent). The Langmuir isotherm equations are used to describe the adsorption process. Complete desorption can be realized with 0.2 M HCl within 20 min. INTRODUCTIONRare earth elements (REEs) have found various applications in different domains, such as metallurgy industry, ceramic industry, nuclear fuel control, photo-electro-magnetic functional materials owing to their unique properties. Neodymium (Nd), as a representative of all of the most valuable REEs, is widely used as catalysts, laser crystals, capacitors, rubber additives, Nd-Fe-B magnets, hydrogen storage and so on. Thus, the separation and purification of neodymium is significant. Unfortunately, Nd always coexists with other REEs and selective separation of the individual Nd from the REEs mixtures is still extremely difficult owing to their strictly similar atomic structures and chemical properties.Liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) and solid-liquid adsorption (SLA) are the most widely adopted techniques for the separation of REEs in the hydrometallurgical fields. The LLE process is well suited for large-scale continuous operation because of its inherent high capacity and fast kinetics. Nowadays, as a commercial extractant, 2-ethylhexyl phosphonic acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester (P507) has been extensively studied for extraction and separation of REEs since it has considerably good extractability and high separation efficiency (Xu et al., 1992). SLA is one of the effective and green separation methods with some prominent advantages, such as easy regeneration of adsorbents, small footprint size, less industrial wastes, higher enrichment factors and column efficiency,rapid solid–liquid separation without emulsion and so on. Hence, the introduction of extractants with excellent performance into adsorbents will integrate the advantages of LLE and SLA (Lee et al., 2009)."

Poland is the ninth largest coal producer in the world and Coal Company is the largest Polish producer of this deposit yielding 51% of national production. Coal Company mines are located in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin. These are underground mines which operate in difficult geological conditions at great depths of up to 1200 m. One of the most common natural hazards in Polish mines are rockburst and seismic hazard impacting on surface infrastructure and habitants. In the assessment of the rockburst and seismic hazard methods of mining seismology play a leading role. This paper presents progress that was achieved in the last few years in the implementation of new seismic monitoring systems and seismic interpretation methods for the prevention of hazard deriving from seismicity induced by mining. This progress in assessment of rockburst hazard and impact of seismic activity on the surface infrastructure was achieved through close cooperation between the Coal Company and Central Mining Institute ? the country?s leading scientific institute in the field of mining seismology. New theoretical solutions are in the process of testing in mines of Coal Company where seismic monitoring systems are installed and controlled by well-qualified personnel. Some directions of further joint actions to increase the effectiveness of rockburst and seismic hazard assessment are presented as well.

"The Guide to the Evaluation of Gold Deposits reviews the successive evaluation steps in the domains of geology, engineering, and economics. The Guide analyzes, in a systemic perspective, the sequence of exploration, development, and evaluation work required to bring a mineral deposit to production. The aim is to identify the metal/mineralization losses and ore dilution that each work step contributes to the evaluation and mining process. The procedure allows one to maximize the income and profits of a mining operation, and to reduce the risks of financial losses tied to investment decisions in the mining sector. For greater efficiency, the criteria of reserve estimation and classification should be integrated with the evaluation steps and methods. At earlier stages of deposit development, when quantitative knowledge is available mainly on the geological axis, the term ""delimited mineral deposit"" should be used. The term ""reserve"" should be used only in an operating mine or in a mining project, when information in the geological, engineering, and economic domains is adequate to ensure technical and financial feasibility. ""Reserves"" are by definition ""mining reserves"". Each category of proven/probable reserves and measured/indicated deposits should be subdivided into two classes to express better the many steps of mineral valuation. The category of ""possible reserves"" shall be replaced by that of ""inferred mineralization"". This system, derived from the Australasian Code, can easily be integrated into current practices of the exploration and mining industry within a short timeframe. The proposal to develop the use of the margins of error of the estimates at a confidence level of90% should be viewed in a longer timeframe. Establishing the precision of the mineral inventories and distinguishing between categories and classes by means of the margin of error will require more work and a longer break-in period.SOMMAIRELe ""Guide d’évaluation des gisements d'or"" analyse, dans une approche systémique, les travaux d'évaluation et de mise en valeur des gisements minéraux dans l'axe de la géologie, dans l'axée l'ingénierie et dans I ‘axe de l'économique. Plusieurs essais démontrent que le système propose, qui s'inspire du Code australasien, peut facilement et rapidement s'intégrer dans les pratiques de l'industrie. II pourrait également contribuer à une standardisation des méthodes et des nomenclatures à l'échelle internationale. Introduction The Flin Flon mine of the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company, Limited, is on the interprovincial boundary between Manitoba and Saskatchewan, about four hundred miles north of the Canada-United States boundary. The orebodies are gold, silver, zinc, and copper replacement deposits occurring as irregular lenses of massive sulphides, arranged en echelon, and irregular masses of disseminated copper sulphides in chlorite. The country rocks are of Precambrian age, dominantly lava flows. Development of the Mine The mine is opened by two vertical main shafts- the North Main and South Main shafts- 3,800 feet apart. The North Main shaft has a depth of 2,210 feet and the South Main shaft is completed for stoping operations to the 3,250-foot level (see Figure 1). These shafts are connected by main haulages driven, on the footwall side of the orebodies, at 520-foot intervals down to the 2,210-foot level. No. 3 (subsidiary) shaft is on the footwall side of the orebodies at a point between the North Main and South Main shafts, 2,400 feet south of the former. It has a depth of 3,250 feet and connects with all main haulage levels- with both Main shafts down to the 2,210-foot level and with the South Main shaft on the 2,750-, 3,000-, and 3,250-foot levels. Other openings tO the mine include B North fan raise, the opening due to the recovery of the open pit sill pillar, and several back-fill raises.

Diavik Diamond Mines Inc. (DDMI) has treated systems development as an integral part of the construction project when it built Canada?s second diamond mine. Fully aware that the proper collection and processing of operational data is needed to drive business decisions during production and planning, key Performance Indicators (KPIs) were defined to effectively manage operations when the mine went into production. The Production Information Management System (PIMS) allows KPIs to be measured, reported, and transferred to other systems in a reliable and convenient manner. PIMS provides a mechanism to collect real time production data from the various control systems around the site and acts as a tool to ?drill-down? and establish the important cause-effect relationships that impact the value of a KPI. Thus PIMS provides a data collection, storage, management, and an environment in which cause-effect relationships can be analysed and statistically verified. This understanding of the real cause-effect relationships, close to the source of the data and in the context of the operation, can be used to improve both operations and maintenance performance. The PIMS includes the PI Database implementation, its associated external interfaces with the various Control Systems, Cleaning Packaging Weighing System, Environmental System, Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) System, and Diamond Tracking System (DTS), as well as laboratory data collection, custom applications (downtime tracking, data reconciliation) and user clients. The interface with the EAM system provides material flow quantities and equipment availability on which the plant performance reports are based. The transfer of equipment usage to the EAM system is fed into the maintenance notifications and work orders functionality in the EAM. The environmental system interface provides the mechanism for capturing water consumption data required to generate the various regulatory reports. The interface to the cleaning-packaging-weighing system provides the mechanism for capturing batch data for transfer to the DTS for diamond product tracking at the production splitting facility in Yellowknife. The PIMS lab application provides a means of getting sample data into the system for critical metallurgical metrics, and the data reconciliation application provides a means of manually verifying the data before it is published or passed onto other systems.

Abstract -The Zn-Pb-Cu-Ag ore deposits of the Boundary and N-5 zones near Bathurst, New Brunswick, occur in a polydeformed volcano-sedimentary sequence that is part of the Ordovician Tetagouche Group. Massive and disseminated sulfides are hosted by an argillaceous to cherty sedimentary sequence that is stratigraphically underlain by a siliceous fragmental unit and is overlain by a feldspar-rich crystal tuff and related tuffaceous rocks. The deposits have a low iron sulfide con­ tent relative to that of most stratabound sulfide deposits of the Bathurst-Newcastle mining district. The ore is commonly associated with chlorite- and talc-rich sediments. The N-5 deposit is considered to be the fault-displaced extension of the Boundary deposit. The Boundary deposit is estimated to contain 891 000 t grading 3.310Jo Pb, 7.96% Zn, 0.32% Cu and 44 g/t Ag; the estimate for the N-5 zone is 330 000 t grading 3.24% Pb, 7.15% Zn, 0.33% Cu, and 37 g/t Ag. The ore is processed at 1000 tpd at the Heath Steele mill.

A phenomenological model is presented for leaching silver from silver sulfide contained in mineral particles with ammoniacal thiosulfate solutions of copper in stirred reactors. Experimental results were used to adjust the kinetic parameters of the model, such as the reaction order and velocity. The incorporation of the cuprous sulfide-silver sulfide equilibrium at the reaction interface allowed the prediction of the conversion limits for different reagent concentrations. The information obtained from the reactor model was later integrated into a heap leaching simulation, whose results adequately describe tendencies observed in column tests, with respect to variations in copper and thiosulfate concentrations. "An accurate knowledge of the chemical, mineralogical and physical characteristics of ores and mineral products that are mined, processed and sold commercially is crucial to resource definition, effective resource utilisation, plant design, process control, metallurgical accounting and finally quality control to ensure that contract specifications are met and equitable payment is received for product sales. However, the responsibility for sampling is often entrusted to personnel who do not fully appreciate the significance and importance of collecting fully representative samples for analysis, and they seem satisfied as long as some material is collected and returned to the laboratory for analysis. Furthermore, sample stations incorporated into the design of new plants are often the first casualties when cost cutting exercises commence. There is really little point in accurately analysing samples if they are not representative in the first place, because the resultant analyses can be seriously biased and the effort taken to carefully analyse such samples is largely a waste of time and resources.Ultimately, a poor knowledge of the characteristics of ores and mineral products limits the ability of mining companies to optimise the life of ore resources and plant performance, and failure to meet final product specifications can have disastrous consequences, including price penalties and more seriously loss of sales contracts and significant revenue losses due to poor sampling practices at the point of sale. Consequently, it is critical that sampling is given the attention it deserves as the first important step in the quality measurement chain. The golden rule for correct sampling is that all parts of the ore, concentrate, slurry or other material being sampled must have an equal opportunity of being collected and becoming part of the final sample for analysis."

Location and History The Sherritt Gordon property is located in northwestern Manitoba, about 100 miles north of The Pas and 40 miles northeast of Flin Flon. It is connected with the Manitoba Northern railway, which runs from The Pas to Flin Flon by a branch line, 42 miles in length. The location of the property is shown on the sketch-map, Figure 2. The ore deposit was first discovered by Philip Sherlett, a Cree Indian, in 1922. In 1924 Sherlett's claims lapsed and the ground was re-staked by Carl Sherritt and Dick Madole, and was optioned by them to J. P. Gordon in the summer of 1925. Gordon re-optioned the property successively to three well-known mining groups, one of which did some surface trenching .and put down 28 shallow diamond-drill holes before dropping their option. In the latter part of 1927, a Company known as Sherritt Gordon Mines, Limited, was formed to take over the property, and preparations were made for systematic development work. Preliminary Development In order to fill-in gaps left by the original drilling, a light diamond-drill outfit was flown-in to the property from the Hudson Bay railway in the early fall of 1927. Ten shallow holes were put down before freeze-up .and a considerable amount of surface trenching was completed. Based on the results of the surface trenching and the shallow diamond-drilling, an extensive development campaign was outlined. A winter road, 90 miles in length, was cut from mileage 55 on the Hudson Bay railway, and during the winter of 1927-28 a total of 2,600 tons of freight was hauled-in to the property. This freight included four complete diamond-drill outfits, two complete mining plants, building material for two sets of camps, and supplies for one year's operations, including 105,000 gallons of fuel-oil for Diesel engines.

Summary Considerable test work has been done with the detachable type of carbide bit. In general, these bits improved drilling operations, but at a bit cost .greater than was compensated for by the reduction in man-hours of labour. Too few bits continued in service for the possible drilling life of the carbide inserts, and technical improvements or lowered first cost, preferably .both, are indicated ?in order that the bits can be generally acceptable as an economical drilling tool. In ?preliminary test work, the drill rods .with ?one insert of the chisel-bit type appear to be more trouble-free, to have a longer life, and to give a somewhat lower bit cost per foot drilled, than other types. INTRODUCTION The object of this paper is to outline briefly the 'methods used and the results obtained in test work with tungsten carbide bits used in combination with the smaller bore, lighter weight rock drills. As various articles have appeared in the past few years giving the historical background ?and early development of carbide ?bits, this information will not be repeated. Table I lists the equipment used in the test work. The stopers weigh about 95 pounds and the jackhammers with airleg from 97 to 110pounds. The smaller rock drills are stated to deliver about 2,200 blows per minute at 1 to 30 rotation and to require 85 to 95 cubic feet of air at around 100 pounds pressure.

The latter part of the 20th century saw great advances in the treatment of refractory gold ores coupled with increased reliance on the use of cyanide for gold processing. Now, in many parts of the world, there is social pressure to limit or eliminate the use of cyanide. As well, treatment of some refractory ores or concentrates which have excessive cyanide consumption, gold cyanide pregrobbing or significant sulfide content remain difficult. This paper will outline the history of the development of alkaline sulfide leaching as an ancillary process to nitrogen species catalyzed (NSC) pressure leaching. Electrochemical fundamentals and the applicable thermodynamics of the alkaline sulfide hydrometallurgical system will be outlined. As well, examples of refractory gold recovery with alkaline sulfide hydrometallurgy such as an arsenopyrite gold concentrate application, a chalcopyrite gold concentrate application, a pregrobbing gold ore application, and a cyanide consuming gold ore application will be delineated in this paper.

"Crystal phase of copper-containing slag regulation by the slag viscosity, cooling speed and cooling method, where the slag viscosity is related to the temperature and alkalinity. According to the mineralogy properties of a copper-containing slag, experiments of crystal phase regulation and flotation were conducted. When the copper-containing slag that adding a small amount of calcium oxide was cooled slowly at a rate of 3°C/min and about 1050°C n a cinder inclusion system, the viscosity of slag can be remained under 0.25 Pa·S and more than ??% of copper particles that the grain size is larger than 20 ?m in slag. The whole flow of flotation experiment was carried out to recover copper from the copper-containing slag with crystal phase regulating and the copper concentrate grade was ?????%, the recovery efficiency of copper was 94.18%.INTRODUCTIONChina's annual output of copper slag is more than 6 million tons, the current total has reached 80 million tons. It is equivalent to 640 thousand tons of copper metal with the copper grade of 0.82%. Most of the smelting slag were storage. It is not only occupy the land and pollute the environment, but also make a huge waste of resource (Alp, Deveci, & Süngün, 2008; Carranza, Iglesias, Mazuelos, Romero, & Forcat, 2009; Gorai, & Jana, 2003), therefore, it is good way to achieve copper slag resources by the effective recovery of valuable component from copper smelting slag, which is an important measure of the current process of copper smelting slag and implement the central authorities to vigorously develop the circular economy, improve the recycling of resources, increase copper production of intensive development (Zhou, et al., 1994; Zhang, Zhang, & Wang, 2005). Currently, researches on comprehensive utilization of the coppercontaining slag made a much progress (Wei, 2004; Liu, Gai, Yang, Sui, Li, & Fu, 2008; Liu & Zhu, 2008; Zhang, 2010; Sun, Chen, & Tang, 2012; Qin, Wang, Ren, Wei, Peng, & Gu, 2012). Flotation is one of the most effective method to recover the copper from smelting slag, which has the features of low cost and high efficiency (Song & Liu, 2001; Zhang, Wang, & Li, 2012). But the copper particles in the copper smelting slag distribution is very uneven, and the thickness of the material is very serious. The copper content in the micro level is higher, the size of copper sulfide ore is less than 0.043 mm, which leads to the difficulty of the monomer dissociation (Tossavainen, Engstrom, Yang, Menad, Lidstrom, Larsson, & Bjorkman, 2007; Moustakas, Mavropoulos, Katsou, Haralambous, & Loizidou, 2012). In this study, according the process mineralogy of a smelting copper slag, the crystal of smelting copper slag was optimized by controlling the temperature, alkalinity, cooling rate and cooling method, which makes the fine copper mineral particles in the copper slag crystal further, and can be used to meet the particle size requirements of flotation, thereby enhancing the flotation of copper."

"The free-world production of columbium ore concentrates has doubled in the last five years. St. Lawrence Columbium and Metals. Corporation has contributed largely to this expansion, its production rate increasing from 720 tons of concentrates per year in 1961 to 2 200 tons in 1965.To follow the normal market development, the Company initiated an engineering study aimed at establishing the most economical mining methods, thus permitting it to increase its milling rate from 1,000 tpd in 1964 to 2,000 tpd in 1967 and possibly to 3,000 tpd in 1968. The results of this study pointed out the advantages to be gained in converting from an open pit to an under-ground operation. This paper describes how the mining engineering department has successfully developed ""stopes"" from the walls of its No. 2 open pit, in order to assure continuity of its operation during the interval required to develop its underground mine."
