Mechanism of the action of nonpolar physically adsorbed reactants in froth flotation is under discussion in the paper. It is shown that their basic influence on flotation includes removing of the kinetics restrictions of the flotation complex formation. Experimental data and practical evidence reported in the paper sustain the proposed mechanism. There are discussed potential dependence of the kinetics of dixanthogen formation on platinum and its influence on the induction time (IT).

Facing the optimization activities, which purpose is to minimize the copper processing costs, the main sources of their occurring were presented. In this purpose, the costs analysis was performed, divided to individual standings, for one of the polish copper beneficiation plants. It was proved, that the main component of the copper beneficiation costs is energy consumption, generated mainly in grinding and classification node, particularly by operating mills. The technological system ? grinding and classification node ? in KGHM Polska Miedz S.A., ZWR region Lubin was then selected to investigation. To evaluate the grinding and classification node, the energetic factors W were proposed, calculated on the basis of the energetic-technological data of process, given by node monitoring system. The correctness of the energetic factors selection to evaluate the work of this node and their practical application in industrial conditions was experimentally proved in other technological object. The selected technological object ? grinding and classification node ? was then mathematically modeled and optimized. The calculated energetic factors were the basis to build mathematical models, identifying industrial copper grinding and classification process. The models described correlation and character of dependency between factors and energetic-technical data of the process. These were regressive and neural networks models. On the basis of factors models, the optimization tasks were determined, which purpose was to select the optimal points of grinding and classification node work. Also, the estimated economical effect, possible to achieve after introduction of given monitoring values to grinding and classification node optimization system, was presented.

For its surface features, micro-sized hematite is usually difficult to recover by magnetic separation; especially, the existing high gradient magnetic separator in industry can not utilize collecting matrix with thin silky rods for its property of being easily blocked; the lower size limit for recovery of micro-sized weak magnetic minerals is about 0.019mm, some even is 0.037mm. This paper introduces the application of the combined new technique of water-air joint discharging of concentrate and collecting matrix with different diameter silky rods in the field of recovery of micro-sized hematite by high gradient magnetic separator. The commercial test result for recovery of a certain hematite with size about ?0.037mm shows that the recovery can be promoted by 16.81% with basically same concentrate grade.

Acid Mine Drainage (AMD), high acid water containing heavy metals discharged from mines, has been recognized as major cause of mine pollution. In Japan, the government spends billions of yen every year to prevent pollution caused by AMD in about 80 abandoned mines. It is widely recognized that the treatment could continue for long decades or an even century. However, costs and environmental loads are uncertain during the treatment because a predictive model for the quality of AMD, the dosage of neutralizer, and the amount of sludge that is applicable for abandoned mines with limited data has not yet been established. In this study, a two-steps predictive model for solution composition and neutralization chemical requirements of AMD in future was constructed based on the geochemical modeling. Requisite input data of the model was the past historical water quality data from AMD monitoring, such as metal concentration and pH in the solution, instead of the sample rocks as other conventional prediction methods. In the first step, solution composition of AMD in the future was extrapolated from the available historical data using geochemical simulation considering the first order kinetics for the mineral dissolution. In the second step, neutralizer dosage and sludge generation in the future was predicted based on the geochemical simulation supposing the chemical equilibrium and oxidation state for all of elements in the solution. Based on case studies of two abandoned mines in Japan, solution composition, neutralizer dosage and sludge generation were estimated. The results of this study demonstrate the effectiveness of our model for the prediction of AMD quality and chemical requirements of neutralization treatment after mine closing. The model is useful for the estimation of the neutralizer dosage and the sludge volume in abandoned mines with limited data. One of the most vigorous of the continuous improvement methodologies is Six Sigma. While usually associated with improving manufacturing and product quality, leading manufacturers are using it to improve their extended supply chain and logistics capabilities. At the same time they are improving reliability, some companies have cut hundreds of millions of dollars of fat out of their supply chain. Mine to Mill optimization is a transformation of culture from processing tons to processing a quality feed size distribution which reduces the overall operational costs and add the highest value to the mine. This is not a constant endeavor. As such, a dynamic performance monitoring and diagnosis is necessary. We will review a systemic way to performance improvements and avoiding metal losses from the blast to the metals. We show the requirements of using raw data to analysis the data to define operational maps which provide assistance to run the mine and mill. A case study is provided with the mine and mill data was integrated combining process control and quality information resulting in reduction of water and energy consumption while improving the overall value of the mine. The results of reengineering the current system with this SIX SIGMA Strategy had the following results: an increase of ore milling: 4.6% decrease of mil power: 3.9%, decrease of fresh water consumption: 6.8%, with a total of net profits: US$ 31.8 million, the PI System infrastructure contribution: US$ 7.95 million. These estimates were for the period 2009/04/04 to 2009/12/31.

"Over the past few years CSIRO Minerals has been conducting research aimed at developing a continuous copper converting process to replace the traditional two-stage batch process that is currently used to produce blister copper. Sirosmelt type reactors and calcium-ferrite (lime-based) slags have been used rather than the conventional iron silicate slags. The research work has now been extended to focus on the development of a single-stage continuous copper making process (so-called direct copper converting) in which copper concentrates are converted to low-sulfur blister copper in a single step, that is the smelting and converting steps occur in one continuous stage.One feature of the direct copper converting process is that copper losses to the slag phase can be high, meaning the slag produced needs to be treated to recover the copper value. The feasibility of the whole copper making process will most likely depend on the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the copper recovery stage. Flotation has been identified as the most economical option to recover the copper from direct copper converting slags where it has been estimated that a copper recovery from the slag of above 90% is required to make the overall single stage copper making process economically feasible.A limited series of laboratory batch flotation tests was conducted on a suite of calcium-ferrite-based slags made in laboratory smelting trials. Copper sulfide concentrates from MIM were used as feed-stocks. The objectives of this work were to develop a robust flotation process to maximise the copper recovery and iron rejection from slags made in the process, and to establish operating conditions for future continuous flotation pilot plant trials.The slags treated included a reduced low copper slag, an oxidised high copper slag composite, and a very reduced low copper self-pulverising slag. The copper content of the slags varied from 2.9% to 14% Cu and the CaO/Fe ratio varied between 0.30 and 0.54. In general, the higher the copper content the more oxidised the slag. The copper was present as metallic copper, oxide copper and copper-calcium ferrite phases with the phase mix related to smelting conditions. The slags were crushed, ground, wet-screened at 355 or 210 µm to remove coarse metallic particles of copper, and floated at natural pH (about pH 11) using reagents and conditions appropriate for the selective recovery of the copper phases. Reagent additions were typically 200 g/t KEX and 500 g/t Na2S.9H2O and the grind size was generally a P80 of about 40 µm."

"The goal of prospecting operations in the Republic of Altay was to locate gold-sulfide-quartz mineralization. For this purpose we applied the technology of electromagnetic sounding and induced polarization (EMS-IP). These operations resulted in localizing promising sites with presence of sulfidization. The EMS-IP method proved to be highly efficient amongst other prospecting methods targeted at recognizing zones of sulfide mineralization making up 91%, considering that in more than half cases the ore intervals were the case. In the Yakutian diamondiferous province the EMS-IP technology was approbated during three field seasons to accomplish the assignments on searching for kimberlite bodies under conditions of various geological types. As a result, the reference objects were distinguished, and geoelectric parameters of kimberlite pipes of explosion were defined.INTRODUCTION In the time span 2015-2016 in Gorny Altay the EMS-IP technology was approbated in the Novokuznetsk area. The on-land areal geophysical survey was performed by EMS-IP method applied to identify, outline and locate promising sites with Au-Ag-bearing polymetallic mineralization within surveyed areas. Compared to the hosting rocks, the sulfides contained in polymetallic mineralization are typified by low specific electrical resistivity (SER) and high polarization. The areal survey conducted via EMS-IP method provided spatial characteristics of searched object. From July 2016 to August 2017 our expedition group carried out serial test works and laboratory investigations intending to define performance capabilities of EMS-IP technology in searching for kimberlite bodies under conditions of diverse geological types. The prerequisites for serial work were operations accomplished at the «Listvenichny» site lying 35 km away from Mirny town in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), where the EMS-IP technology was probed for locating position and measuring geoelectric parameters of tuff pipe «Buardakhsky». After successful completion of operations it was decided to evaluate geoelectric parameters of kimberlite pipes of explosion."

Biosorption of heavy metals can be an effective process for the removal of heavy metals ions from aqueous solutions. In this study, the adsorption properties of Rhodococcus opacus biomass for Pb(II) and Cu(II) ions was investigated. The effects of initial pH, initial metal concentration and biomass concentration on biosorption efficiency were studied in a batch system. Results showed that the initial pH would play an important role in the Pb(II) and Cu(II) ions removal by R. opacus and affected the zeta potential of R. opacus. The equilibrium adsorption was reached with 60 min. The Langmuir and Freundlich models were used for describing of adsorption isotherm data. The maxi-mum adsorption capacities of biomass were determined as 94.3mgg-1 and 32.2 mgg-1 for the Pb(II) and Cu(II) ions, respectively. The experimental data fitted to pseudo second order kinetic model. Adsorption capacity of Pb(II) ions was found to be reduced by the presence of the other competing metal ions in the system. The FT-IR results of R. opacus biomass showed that biomass has different functional groups and these groups are able to react with metal ions in aqueous solution.

Brazil and Colombia have large reserves of coal, those reserves in Brazil are located predominantly in the south and Colombia the main reserves are located in the north. Despite the relative ease of exploitation, these resources have been underestimated as a source of energy. Currently, these countries are developing projects and partnerships aiming to qualify this mineral resource, adding quality to the final product of the processing plants. In this scenario the processing of Brazilian and Colombian coal in flotation columns appears as a promising alternative, having been successful in mineral systems containing fine particles This paper aims to study the overall process of column flotation for a specific Brazilian coal and a specific Colombian coal. The material used in this study consists of fine coal from Brazil (Copelmi) and Colombia (Cerrejon). The objective is to recover carbonaceous matter and reduce the ash and contaminants grade. The two coals were floated using a negative bias in a 5 cm diameter conventional flotation column of 5 m high. Flotation parameter investigated included air velocity in the range 0.6 to 1.5 cm/s. For all runs, a constant negative bias of -0.25 cm/s and a pulp concentration of 8% w/w were used. For Cerrejón coal, 300 g/ton of frother and 907 g/ton of collector was used, whereas for Copelmi coal, 600 g/ton of frother and 1815 g/ton of collector was employed. The frother was a commercial Aerofroth 65 (AF65), whereas the collector was Kerosene. For the Colombian coal, in general, yield, organic recovery, ash recovery and water recovery decreased with the increasing air rate. However, for Brazilian coal the air rate had no significant effect. For Colombian coal, the highest yield (60% w/w) and organic recovery (69% w/w) were obtained at the lowest air rate (0,6 cm/s). Water has become a scarce resource in quality. Companies in the ornamental stones sector use water intensively in their processes. Given the current situation, it is imperative to rationalize this feature that at first is related to the reduction of consumption, through no waste. Considering the importance of environmental preservation of this resource and also to comply with the legislation that governs the procedure for processing of ornamental stones, new alternatives should be available for the maintenance of current activities and promoting the development / growth of the sector on the principles of environmental sustainability and economic in future scenarios. The ornamental stones processing industries, especially for micro and small enterprises, require the implementation of a management program that optimizes the use of this feature, since the techniques individually processed operate with three basic processes dependent on water use: split blocks, polishing and finishing slabs. This technology requires a large volume of water resources and control measures involving operating recirculation water can minimize power consumption, making the company more profitable and sustainable. This is a survey of literature, associated with technical reports provided by partner companies and government agencies. This study aimed to the organization and provision of theoretical knowledge about the subject matter coupled with management practices, which may be reproduced or re-purposed in ornamental stones processing companies. It should be noted that the industry in question is lacking in technical expertise for the implementation of sustainable attitudes relevant to water reuse.

In 1951, Tata Steel became the pioneer in Asia by setting up its first ever washery in West Bokaro Colliery. The first beneficiation plant used to produce clean coal of 19% ash with chance cone. Feed size of chance washers were -75 mm to +6 mm. The fine coal (-6 mm) were used directly. With change in technology,in 1986,chance cones were replaced by DM cyclones and coal was washed in two circuits. In the coarse circuit -13 mm to +0.5 mm coal was washed in two stages while the fine coal of -0.5 mm was treated in froth floatation cell. With further improvement in the process the higher ash raw coal was feed to produce clean coal of 13% ash. In 1998, DSM cyclones were replaced by scrolled Evolute design cyclone which has Ep of 0.020 to 0.025 ranges resulting in increase efficiency of separation. With the increase in demand of clean coal, lower seam proportion has increased in raw coal production. The washability studies of individual seams indicated large difference in the seam characteristics in terms of washability and specific gravity cut points of the individual seams. So washing all seams together had resulted in frequent change in the character of coal and warrants frequent changes in the operating parameters of the plant in which the separating efficiency comes down and ultimately resulted in yield loss initially. With increase in knowledge and experience in coal washing the solution to this problem was achieved by adopting, seam-wise washing which is enabling process engineers by keeping set point for longer periods there by to enhance the separation efficiency. "Tatasteel’s West Bokaro washery#3 is designed to deslime raw coal at 0.5mm; the oversize (+0.5mm) is beneficiated in dense media cyclones (DMC) while the undersize (-0.5mm) is beneficiated in froth flotation (FF) cells. Nearly, 80% of the raw coal feed reports to the DMC circuit consisting of four parallel streams. Presently, the performance of DMCs at washery#3 is interpreted by: (a) comparing the actual plant yield w.r.t the lab predicted yield and (b) misplacement of clean coal to middllings.However, the comparison between actual & lab predicted yield is fallacious given the fact that the lab predicts yield of the borehole sample while the feed received at the plant has different characteristics altogether due to the dilution during mining. To mitigate the said limitations, a quick diagnosis tool using the past data has been developed that will give a prediction of performance of different coal seams in the DMCs, inputs being feed ash to DMCs and stream wise feed specific gravity (coal & magnetite combined).The tool also will help in identifying the root cause on real time basis thereby helping the operator to take necessary corrective actions. The operator can intimate the mining personnel in cases of shale reporting to the feed as a result of dilution during mining. In events of higher standard deviations between the parallel streams w.r.t feed specific gravity, the operator can adjust the parameters accordingly to minimize the yield loss. INTRODUCTION West Bokaro came into existence in 1948, as an independent coal company, managed by M/S Anderson Wright. Tata Steel acquired the Company in 1956 to meet its requirement of metallurgical grade coal for Iron making. Subsequently, in 1976, it was made a division of Tata Steel. In 1974, when coal mines were nationalized, West Bokaro was exempted as it produced coal only for captive consumption of the Steel Works. The first washery of India was set up in West Bokaro. The business objective of the West Bokaro division is to produce clean coal at optimum cost for captive use in the steel plant of Tata Steel at Jamshedpur. The strategy is to reduce ash with minimum loss of yield so that quality of coal improves and yet the cost is beneficial vis-a vis imported coal. The primary product is the metallurgical grade coal for coke ovens, which converts coal into coke for use in the Blast Furnaces."

Studies of the dense medium and classifying cyclone have been conducted using the Fluent computational fluid dynamics code. Experimental measurements of the segregation of medium in a DM cyclone by gamma-ray tomography and the performance of a novel classifying cyclone design have been used to test and interpret the 3D CFD predictions. The predictions of the CFD models were generally plausible, though more work is required to incorporate turbulent mixing of the slurry in the cyclone. The benefits of the novel cyclone design were explained by the model in terms of conditions favouring reduction of short-circuiting at the vortex finder, and the removal of the air core from the wall at the apex. Soil reconstruction and improvement trials and vegetation experiment is carried out at Shuilong-shan acid rock waste dumps at Dexing Copper Mine in China. pH value, Cu2+, Pb2+, Zn2+, etc. concentration in acid rock drainage (ARD) is also monitored every month since 2005. The results of experiment show that: Lime and topsoil stripped from open-pit is appropriated soil improvement material. Full cover soil improvement method is suitable for flat area, contour soil improvement method and hole soil improvement method is appropriate for slope area. The optimal plant species is ligustrum lucidum Ait,Lespedeza bicolor, Paspalum notatum, Veti-veria zizanioides, Eragrostis pilos and Neyraudia reynaudian. It is the best for Arbor, shrub and grass to be arranged in pairs or groups in order to remold optimal landscape. Pilot sites, covering 3ha, is established. Vegetation coverage reaches 90% in platform area, 40% in slope area. pH value in ARD increased slightly, Cu2+, Pb2+ concentration in ARD decreased, Zn2+ concentration in ARD decreased and varied slightly.

With thise Process of obtaining a solid fuel which is both ecological clean and has a high calorific value by a two-stage method of enriching preferably type lignitic coals to remove a high content of all sulphurs, incuding organic sulphur, which method comprises converting the coal to a semi-coke from followed by magnetic separation. In the Experiments given the best results the washed lignite coal in the West-Turkey, Tavsanli- Region, size -3.35 mm on dry basis. In the microscopic studies of the brigh-thin cross-section taken from the samples of sulfur min-erals pyrite in the dimension of 2~50 micrometers and melnicovite 10 micrometers particles. An thermal treatment an semi-coking themperature between 370°C to 650°C give the best Result of 480 °C. The oxidation and decomposition of sulphur minerals pyrite and melnicovite in lignite coal proceed the iron oxides Fe2O3 and pyrrhotite FeS on the surface layer. The Magnetic Seperator (Rare Earth Magnetic Separator, REMS) is capable this two form of sulphur, including organic and inorganic sulphur, in semi-coke and resulted in the magnetic-fraction in REMS. The non-magnetic-fraction remove total sulphur by 68 %, ash by 44 % and increase the upper calorific value in 15 %. The clean lignitic coal can be utilized in human or energy power stations.

The aim of the research is to increase the recoverable value of poor, difficult-to-digest complex mineral raw materials. In the Republic Belarus, universal centrifugal-shock devices have been created for crushing, grinding and classification of ore and non-metallic mineral raw materials in dry mode, which differ from foreign analogues by a higher level of resource saving (including electricity and materials). Dry-ore preparation technologies have been tested on a pilot scale: fine crushing (replacing grinding in rod mills), grinding (replacing wet grinding in ball mills) and pneumoclassification on different types of ores, - which made it possible to identify the criteria for the suitability and unsuitability of mineral raw materials for their use. The possibility of regulating the upper and lower limit of the size of the finished material is established, the possibility of reducing the yield of slimes (-0,020 mm) to 5 times is determined. A comparative analysis of the contrast degree of separation characteristics of ore a similar granulometric composition, crushed in wet and dry conditions, is performed. The achieved contrast degree of gravity properties after dry grinding - 104,3; after the wet - 60.2. When enriching on a centrifugal concentrator, gold recovery to the concentrate after dry grinding increased by 13.12% while improving the quality of the concentrate from 78.3 g/t gold to 90.75 g/t. When testing the gravity-flotation scheme for the enrichment of poor gold-quartz ore, the increment of gold extraction after dry grinding was 7.6% for gravity and 9.5% for flotation; the total increase in extraction is 17.1%. The possibility of flotation of a larger material after dry grinding has been proved, with an extraction gain of 1.5% compared to the flotation of thinner material after ball milling. The influence of dry technology on the efficiency of the leaching of gold and silver (an extraction gain of 5.5 to 10%) and heap leaching (extraction gain - up to 18.3%) was studied. The positive influence of dry ore preparation technologies on the efficiency of gold and silver heap leaching and heap leaching, thickening and filtration is proved. Lines of dry ore preparation technologies can be used in modular complexes for processing technogenic raw materials.

Calcined calcium oxide from limestone is hydrated to manufacture calcium hydroxide, and then precipitated calcium carbonate is synthesized from calcium hydroxide. Precipitated calcium carbonate of various morphologies is obtained by controlled conditions of each step and characteristics of limestone, calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide. Especially characteristics of calcium hydroxide have the most influence on morphology of precipitated calcium carbonate character. In this study, therefore, it is investigated the specific surface area of calcium hydroxide and morphology of precipitated calcium carbonate according to hydration temperature. Calcium hydroxide hydrated at high initial temperature has larger particle size than that hydrated at low initial temperature. And formation yield of aragonite precipitated calcium carbonate has improved by using calcium hydroxide had larger particle size (hydrated at high initial temperature).

Bor flotation tailings are very interesting from two reasons: first, is having due value presently, and second represent serious pollutant into this region of Balkan. This paper is only one small part of investigation about processing of valuable minerals from tailings, and desulphurization of this biggest pollutant in the same time, by refloating. The main objective of this work is to pay attention on this problem for resolve greatest environ-mental problem of Serbia and Balkan in the nearly future. Bor is potential regional risk spot, since that failure of its tailings dams would release high amounts of toxic materials that would reach the Danube River. The basic goal of this experimental investigation was finding some possibility for flotation tailings treatment by classical froth flotation. In order was obtained material effect through copper recovery, and environmental protection by moving the rest of reprocessing into the safe place. The work present obtained results of laboratory tests in two laboratories: laboratory of mineral and recycling technology at the faculty in Bor, and laboratory of department of mineral processing of ITNMS in Belgrade.

In this study the extraction of zirconium and hafnium has been investigated by solvent extraction using Cyanex 302 in various media such as nitric, sulfuric and hydrochloric acid has been investigated. Effect of various parameters such as type and acid concentration, extractant concentration, type of diluent, equilibrium time, various foreign ions and finally type and concentration of strip-ping agent have been studied. The results showed that nitric acid was optimum media for extraction of zirconium and hafnium. The extraction of zirconium and hafnium occurred quantitatively in the concentration of higher than 4 M nitric acid but in hydrochloric acid media, quantitative extraction obtains over 8 M HCl. In sulfuric acid media, extraction of zirconium and hafnium is negligible. Stripping studies showed that the optimum reagent for stripping was 0.5M sulfuric acid.

In comminution research, ore breakage and wear are usually studied independently of one another. Much of this is due to the fact that wear is usually a slow process compared to ore kage. However, the abrasion wheel test used to determine the abrasive wear contribution to total steel media wear provides the opportunity to study not only abrasive wear and friction but also ore breakage. In this paper, we will explore the use of the abrasion wheel wear test device to study abrasive wear, friction and ore breakage using standard Ottawa foundry sand. We will look into the feasibility of applying the work index as well as t10methodologies to this test set-up. We will also look at how the work index results evolve with abrasive wear and friction. We will then discuss the merits of pursuing the use of this abrasion wheel test for not only wear characterization but also breakage characterization.
