Aços Bake Hardening são aços laminados a frio com envelhecimento controlado. Estes aços caracterizam-se pela boa conformação e por apresentarem aumento de resistência mecânica devido ao envelhecimento, que ocorre por tratamento térmico. Nesse trabalho, corpos de prova de tração do material BH220 foram submetidos à pré-deformações que variam de 0 a 9% por tração uniaxial, posteriormente à tratamento de envelhecimento realizado em temperaturas que variam de 140°C a 210°C em tempos de aquecimento entre 5 minutos a 45 minutos. Foi confirmada que as temperaturas de envelhecimento, na faixa estudada de 140°C a 210°, alteram a variação do limite de escoamento devido ao fenômeno de difusão que é termicamente ativado. Nos resultados encontrados verifica-se que o tempo de aquecimento, dentro do intervalo testado, não é significativo.

Of all the industrial clay minerals, attapulgite probably enjoys the widest variety of applications. A review published over three years ago by Haden and Schwint (18) cited some 80 individual uses, a list which continues to grow. In its near half-century of commercial life, attapulgite has received a generous share of research study and patent development effort, both on the part of producers as well as consumers. This work has been divided between understanding the mineral's structure or properties and applying it to specific end-uses. Naturally, information gained from the former has pointed toward opportunities in the latter. References of particular significance are cited throughout the text. Attapulgite's variety of uses derives from the unique three-dimensional structure and needle-shaped particle form of this crystalline hydrated magnesium aluminum silicate. Its inherent colloidal and sorptive properties are well known, and distinguish it from its sister clay minerals. Attapulgite is characterized by its high surface area, porosity, sorptivity, and decolorizing power. Its slips or slurries are viscous and thixotropic, however, unlike bentonite are not flocculated by electrolytes. In Table I are compared the general properties of attapulgite, bentonite, and kaolin. The properties in Table I are documented in greater detail by the wealth of scientific literature which has been published on the composition (14)(15), structure (6)(16), surface (16)(4)(22)(24), adsorption (31)(4)(5)(25), rheology (10-11)(12)(13)(26)(27)(32), plasticity (30) (31), and chemistry (23)(3)(7) of attapulgite. Attapulgite is the principal mineral constituent (70 to 80%) of attapulgite clay as it is commercially produced in the Georgia-Florida area of the United States. As mined, this clay also contains 10 to 1S% montmorillonite, sepiolite, and other clays; 4 to 8% quartz, and 1 to 5% calcite or dolomite. This report documents the current status of the U.S. Bureau of Mines ongoing investigation of the use of adaptive signal discrimination (ASD) systems to distinguish between cutting coal and cutting rock. Cutting-tool forces and vibrations were measured in the laboratory using both conical bits and roller cutters in a linear-cutting apparatus for several material samples and two cutting directions. A number of ASD systems consisting of one or more signal classifiers were trained and tested to study how data window size, type of signal feature, and combining (polling) of classifier results influence system performance. The results show that ASD system recognition rates can be improved by increasing data window size, removing air-cutting portions from the signal data, overlapping data windows, and combining (fusing) information at various levels of ASD system operation.

This case study provides an example of how social marketing was applied to meet the needs of business customers. Federal regulations require that all companies develop a written program to track hazardous chemicals at their sites. The HazCom Writer, created by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), is a software tool designed to help companies prepare their required Hazard Communications (HazCom) written plan and list all hazardous chemicals at the company's worksite. The social marketing goal was to provide a product for small- to medium-sized companies to use for federal HazCom rule compliance. The HazCom Wm'ter is a direct NIOSH response to customer and stakeholder needs (including the Mine Safety and Health Administration, the mining community, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration- regulated companies).

Reserve Mining Company completed construction on a major process modification project in June of 1980. These modifications enabled Reserve to reduce and control its final iron ore pellet silica content from 9.0 20.77 percent to 5.0 50.26 percent. The paper outlines the implementation of neutron activation on-line analysis and associated computer control loops for measuring and closely controlling the silica content of the iron ore concentrate at Reserve Mining Company. It contains a general overview of Reserve's taconite processing facilities and a presentation of the theory and operation of the neutron activation analysis equipment coupled with the computer silica control loops.

This report describes the development and application of PHASEQ/FLOW, a geochemical flow simulator capable of describing the dynamic changes in chemical composition of an aqueous solution during flow in a permeable medium. The solution components can react through intraaqueous reactions, redox, precipitation, or dissolution. The assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium ensures maximum generality with respect to the number of species and components possible; however, the fluid flow itself is limited to one-dimension. The report describes several applications: generic batch equilibria, flowing equilibria, uranium roll-front deposition, and roll-front leaching.

Natural aggregates, primarily stone, sand and gravel, are recovered from widespread, naturally occurring mineral deposits and processed for use primarily in the construction industry. They are mined, crushed, sorted by size, and sold loose or in concrete products to build roads, houses, buildings and other structures. Smaller quantities are used in agriculture, cement manufacture, and chemical and metallurgical processes. The growth of cities, their buildings and the highways that connect them have created demand for enormous quantities of aggregates. Consumption has now reached 9 t (10 st) per person and continues to grow faster than population. The aggregates industry is the largest mining industry in the United States in terms of production by weight, by volume and by number of active operations. About 80 percent of the concrete pavement and more than 90 percent of the asphalt pavement is composed of aggregates.

O refino de grão da estrutura bruta de solidificação da liga Cu-8%Sn com a adição de Zr foi estudado através da análise térmica e da observação da macro e microestrutura. Os resultados macro e microestruturais mostram que a adição de Zr causa a diminuição do tamanho médio de grão em até 90%. A diminuição do super-resfriamento da recalescência e do período da recalescência, medidos nas curvas de resfriamento, estão correlacionados com a diminuição do tamanho médio de grão causado pela crescente adição de Zr, indicando uma possibilidade de controle do tamanho de grão a partir da análise térmica. A análise da microestrutura das amostras em conjunto com a técnica de extração de precipitados por réplica mostra evidências de que o mecanismo de inoculação é a nucleação heterogênea da fase Cu-a sobre as partículas de ZrC formadas no banho líquido a partir das adições de Zr.

Methane sensors using principle of catalytic oxidation of methane are employed for determination of methane content in ambient air of coal mines. Certain foreign gases or vapors in the air poison the catalyst of the sensor effecting the sensor's response. After literature search of poison compounds of Pt and Pd oxidation catalyst, experimental studies of catalyst poison kinetics were made for three siloxane compounds, tributyl-phosphate, monobromotrifluoromethane, and hydrogen sulfide, selected as poison vapors. Concentration range of the poison vapors was varied in a range from 3000 to 0.1 ppb (v/v). Three siloxane vapors produced strong catalyst poison effect, followed by tributylphosphate, hydrogen sulfide and monobromotrifluoromethane for the high concentration level of the poison vapors. The poison effects are influenced significantly by concentration of the vapors. Threshold poison vapor concentrations where effect of the poison vapors on the sensor is minimal were determined experimentally. Experimental studies were made further for prevention method of catalyst poison by adsorption techniques. Use of activated carbon cloth inserted on the sensor's head prevented catalyst poisoning efficiently.

Transmission and scanning electron microscopy together with X-ray spectral microprobe analysis were used to investigate the structure and chemical composition of pathological calcified formations on the bioprostheses of heart valves. Controllable synthesis was carried out under the conditions (T = 37¦C, pH = 7.4) when the ion composition of the main elements (Ca, P, Mg and NaCl) is close to their concentrations in blood plasma. It is proposed on the basis of the obtained results that the formation of the hydroxyapatite of calcific inclusions on bioprostheses occurs as a result of spontaneous precipitation in the blood plasma. One of the factors determining the formation of massive calcified bodies on the bioprostheses of heart valves can be decreased magnesium concentration in blood.

"In project evaluation there are two matters of keen interest to non-executive directors: the process by which an investment recommendation is reached, as well as the investment itself, as presented. It is sometimes mistakenly believed that Boards of directors are interested only in the result. That is not so. The process by which project evaluations are derived and socialised with the Board is as important as the result, sometimes more so.Setting aside the gloomy predictions of the doomsayers and looking through short-term volatility in supply and demand, the overall availability of mineral resources more often than not exceeds demand. There are in reality more development projects in prospect at any one time than are needed to meet the market. Only the fittest will prosper, although some others may survive.Optimism springs eternal in the mining industry and every project promoter, executive or entrepreneur has a convincing project development case. Some will create value for shareholders, but the historical evidence suggests that many will fail to meet the expectations set in their evaluation.Boards of directors make the final decision to invest, or not, in a new mine. Knowledge is power, and on that basis the balance of power favours management. Management has the facts (or in some cases, what passes for fact) and the passion to invest. The non-executives have the power of approval – yes or no – but before making a decision directors must demonstrate due diligence, the essential precursor to project approval.Management has a vital part to play in facilitating that due diligence process and in encouraging the independent thought processes of the Board. A closed approach by management fosters a negative, risk-averse attitude on the part of the Board. One that encourages an understanding of the rigour of the project evaluation process and the robustness of the result will allow directors to understand better the implications of their decision.CITATION:Knight, R, 2016. The erroneous, but until recently widely prevalent, belief that iron castings were first made in Europe in the fourteenth century has been adequately refuted in a number of earlier papers;1, ll, l² but except for an unpublished metallographic study by the late William Campbell, and a phosphorus analysis by T. A. Wright of the metal of the Han dynasty cast-iron stove described by Laufer,2 nothing was known of either the chemical composition or the metallographic structure of the metal of any ancient iron casting, although data on castings of recent manufacture are abundantly available. The metal of the stove, which had been buried in a grave for at least 15 centuries, was so corroded that it seemed inadvisable to publish the results on it until morc and better specimens from other ancient castings could be obtained. During a journey through China, extending from Peking in the north to Canton in the south and Cheng-tu, Ssu-chuan, in the west, in the late summer and autumn of 1936, one of us (T. T. Read) was fortunate enough to obtain, and bring home for study, nine castings, all more than 1000 years old, of which the date of manufacture is precisely known because of inscriptions cast in them, another that lacks a dated inscription, but of which the date, as explained below, can be otherwise established, and a specimen from the largest iron casting ever made," which is also dated. The period covered by this suite of specimens extends from 502 to 1093 A.D. In addition, a sample was obtained from a casting of date unknown, but which was certainly cast before 1000 A.D. and possibly as early as the third century A.D. A detailed description of these specimens is as follows: I. 502 A.D. A pair [right and left) of recumbent lions (Fig. 1). Base 7¼ by 113/8 in., height over-all 5½in, weight 26 Ib. each. The tranblation of the inscription on the base is: "Made on the twenty-fourth day of the seventh month of the third pear of Ching Ming of Great Wei" (Sept. 11, 502 A.D.).

The Goat Rocks RARE II further planning areas contain no known mineral resources and have very low mineral potentials. County mining records show only one mining claim area; however, no mineralized material was found at the described location. Andesite suitable for building stone may be present, but similar material can be quarried more economically elsewhere. Several anthracite coal prospects are near the area, but the likelihood of finding an economic deposit of coal or other fuel is very low.

The Valery fluorspar deposit , also known as the Hamilton deposit , is northeast of Lovelock and 4 miles by poor dirt road east of U. S. Highway 40 . It is in the Humboldt Mining District , on the west side of the Humboldt Range , at an altitude of 6,000 to 6,500 feet . The property was examined by the Bureau of Mines on February 83/ and April 8 , 1944.4/ The last examination was made with an engineer of the Geological Survey.5/ Exploring by means of trenches , cuts , shaft sinking , coyote holes off the shaft , and a small amount of prospecting with short drill holes , was begun in January 1945 and was completed June 30 , 1945. An engineer6/ of the Geological Survey visited the property in April and again in June 1945 to complete a topographic map of the area and to note the results of exploration by the Bureau of Mines . Only minor surface exploring had been done on fluorspar occurrences previous to the Bureau's work . No mining equipment or living facilities are on the property .

"Premature failure of rock bolts has been recorded at twelve underground coalmines over the past 15 years in Australia. Over the last four years, UNSW Australia has been conducting an Australian Research Council (ARC) and Industry funded linkage research project into premature failure of rock bolts. The extent of the problem was investigated by underground surveys of mines with known prematurely failed bolts using visual mapping, non-destructive load and ultrasound testing. A major component of this project was to define the environmental factors responsible for corrosion of rock bolts. The environment to which a rock bolt is exposed will include groundwater chemistry, the mineralogy of the strata, atmosphere within the drill hole and even microbial activity. This paper focuses on the groundwater survey and analysis findings to date along with in-hole bolt corrosion coupons installed into field sites. Corrosivity classification systems exist for general corrosion but do not apply to the rock bolt stress corrosion cracking (SCC) problem found in Australian underground coal. The method of in situ investigations is leading towards the building of a corrosivity classification model to assist mines in prediction of premature rock bolt failure. [The beau of Mines made its first survey of motor gasolines sold throughout the United States in 1915, a second in 1917, and a third in April. 1919. These surveys shored that motor gasoline had become notably less volatile during each two-year interval. In order to ascertain whether this change was continuing, it was planned to institute semi-annual surveys, the first of which teas made in January, 1920. Contrary to expectations based on the previous surveys, the average volatility of the gasoline tested at this time was practically identical with that of the average volatility of the gasoline from the same districts in 1919. The next survey, made in July, 1920, showed a very marked decrease in volatility but as it has long been recognized that the volatility of motor gasoline manufactured for sale during the summer months is loss tan that of gasoline made and sold during the winter, part at least of the change was attributed to this factor. The average boiling point of the samples collected in the present survey is 263 degrees Fahrenheit, as compared with 264 a year ago. This shows that the average gasoline marketed at the present time is fully as volatile as that marketed a year ago. There has been, however, a noticeable change in the character of the product: the initial boiling point and 20 per cant point are lower than a year ago, whereas the 90 per cent and end-points are higher, which indicates a greater proportion of gasolines made by blending casing-head, or natural gas-gasoline, and naphtha.]

"INTRODUCTION ""Free silica"" includes all free forms of silicon dioxide, such as quartz, chalcedony, tridymite, cristbbalite, opal, diatomaceous earth, and lechatelierite. The term, has been used rather loosely however, as synonymous with quartz, as quartz is the most abundant form of free silica. ""Combined silica,"" on the other hand, has been reserved to denote silica combined with other elements as silicates.Improvements in methods for the determination of free silica, and quartz in particular, have been the subject of considerable interest during the past decade, owing mainly to the accented and increased knowledge concerning quartz as a causative factor in silicosis. Analysis for quartz, however, is of importance in many other fields, including the determination of quartz in ceramic raw materials, such as feldspar and clay; the evaluation of a beneficiation procedure by the ore dresser, such as in the concentration of iron ore; control studies of a manufactured product, such as silica brick; and routine analysis of rock, mineral, and ore samples by chemists and petrographers."

Este trabalho tem como objetivo demonstrar uma aplicação prática da técnica de reconciliação de dados no diagnóstico das medições que compõe uma malha de distribuição de gás BFG – Blast Furnace Gas. Falhas comuns de medição tais como saturação e congelamento da indicação afetam a qualidade da informação e este tipo de detecção faz parte da proposta de diagnóstico. Será abordado o desenvolvimento de um algoritmo que implementa a técnica de reconciliação, bem como a elaboração de uma matriz de diagnóstico no InfoPlus.21. Os principais indicadores deste diagnóstico são armazenados na base de dados do InfoPlus.21 visando consultas históricas e monitoramento contínuo das medições. Os dados obtidos demonstraram que a técnica de reconciliação de dados pode contribuir para identificação de falhas e agregar confiabilidade às medições.
