GENERAL HYDROLOGIC REGIME The total hydrologic cycle must be considered when evaluating potential ground water problems in a mining environment. Precipitation is the ul¬timate source of all surface water and essentially all ground water. Stream flow during low flow periods often orig¬inates as seeps or stream gains (base flow) where the water table intersects the land surface. A stream that is higher in elevation than the ground water system may lose flow, thereby recharging the ground water system. The magnitude of stream gain or loss is dependent upon the hydraulic conductiv¬ity and related properties of the underlying hydrostratigraphic units. Ground water moves constantly from recharge areas to discharge areas (streams and springs) usually at very slow rates. Large quantities of ground water may be in¬tercepted in many underground mining environ¬ments. Construction of an underground mine in saturated formations may encounter ground water inflows ranging from very small to very large and from continuous to intermittent depending upon the hydraulic properties of the hydrostratigraphic units penetrated. SURFACE WATER VARIABLES Precipitation occurs in different forms, varying amounts, and with a wide assortment of temporal and areal distributions in the various mining dis¬tricts within the United States. Mine inflow can be affected in a matter of hours by precipitation events where there is a direct hydraulic interconnection between the mine and the surface through fractures or a mine opening. The timing, form, amount, and distribution of precipitation should be evaluated in a mine inflow study. A portion of the precipitation that falls in a topographic basin moves as sheet flow to runoff channels (Fig. 1). Some of the precipitation infil¬trates the unsaturated soil zone where it can either move laterally as interflow to the surface system to augment stream flow or move downward as re¬-charge to the ground water system. The unsatu¬rated zone (called the zone of aeration or vadose zone) can range in thickness from essentially zero to a few hundred feet. The saturated zone or ground water system occurs below the water table (zone where hydrostatic pressure is greater than atmos¬pheric pressure) where all the pores are filled with water (Freeze and Cherry, 1979, p. 44). Moisture can be lost from any of the systems (surface water system, unsaturated zone, and ground water sys¬tem) by the processes of evaporation and transpir¬ation which return moisture to the atmosphere. Stream flow consists of runoff and interflow components plus an additional base flow compo¬nent (Fig. 2). Base flow constitutes ground water discharge to a stream. Base flow plays an increas¬ingly significant role as total stream flow declines. Base flow is important because it constitutes much if not all stream flow between periods of precipi¬tation when runoff and interflow have largely dis¬sipated. INTERACTION OF SURFACE WATER AND GROUND WATER SYSTEMS Recharge from a surface water system to ground water systems can occur via unsaturated or saturated flow. The amount of recharge is depen¬dent primarily upon the vertical hydraulic conduc¬tivity of the formations underlying the stream and the availability of water. Streams that flow over low hydraulic conductivity formations lose little water even if the ground water levels are significantly lower than the stream. A ground water system may contribute flow to a surface water system but nor¬mally only by saturated flow. This contribution usually takes the form of seeps, springs, and the base flow of streams. Introduction Brine reservoirs along the Texas and Louisiana Gulf coasts are currently under study to investigate the technical and economic viability of production wells designed to extract methane gas in solution. The effect of well pressure drawdown on reservoir rock and associated overburden material is important to well performance predictions and the analysis of potential subsidence problems. Consequently a series of compaction tests have been conducted on sandstone and shale cored from a test well drilled near Hitchcock, Texas, in order to determine the variation of mechanical properties to be expected over the producing life of the formation. Previous Work The referenced tests are part of an extended study of geopressured-geothermal reservoir behavior, including compaction (Jogi, Gray, Ashman, and Thompson, 1981 and Jogi, Kalra, Gray, and Thompson, 1981) and creep (Thompson, Jogi, Gray, and Richardson, 1981) tests of reservoir rock and related reservoir performance studies (Rago, Okhuma, Seperhnoori, and Thompson, 1985). Recent work has considered the nonlinear constitutive behavior of sandstone (Fahrenthold and Gray, 1985 and 19861, while additional experimental work is reported here. Geological structure and composition of the Hitchcock field from which the core samples were obtained is discussed by Light (1985). Experimental Procedure Compaction tests were conducted on cylindrical cores, nominally 2.75 inches in length and 2 inches in diameter, with independent control of the axial, confining, and pore pressures. Axial and radial deformation of the samples were measured in tests over a range of effective stress states expected to develop over the reservoir lifetime. The term effective stress as used here refers to the algebraic difference of the total stress and pore pressure, with compression taken as positive. Three types of compaction tests were conducted on the sandstone. In the uniaxial tests, axial total stress and radial strain were held constant as the pore pressure was reduced, similating one dimensional compaction which may occur during reservoir depletion. In the triaxial tests, radial total stress and pore pressure were held constant as the axial total stress was increased, duplicating conventional rock compaction test procedures. In the pore pressure drawdown tests, axial and radial total stresses were held constant while the pore pressure was reduced, in order to investigate differences in sample response to mechanical and pore pressure loading. Compaction tests were also conducted on shale material obtained from the reservoir overburden. The field coring process provided few consolidated shale sections sufficiently large to allow preparation of samples with the dimensions described above. With additional attrition during sample preparation of this brittle material, ultimate yield of the coring effort was limited. The few available samples were tested in uniaxial and triaxial tests similar to those described above. The use of displacement transducers to measure sample deformation avoided the difficulty of strain gauge installation on this material. Test Results The sandstone and shale both demonstrated nonlinear stress-strain behavior, with hysteresis and residual strain present upon unloading. Polynomial interpolation of the stress-strain curves was used in the calculation of incremental values for the loading and unloading moduli. Figures 1 and 2 show example axial effective stress-axial strain curves for triaxial tests conducted on sandstone and shale samples. The figures plot incremental stress and strain variables, defined as deviations from the state of prestress to which the sample was subjected. The state of prestress was varied between tests in order to investigate material behavior over the entire stress and strain space of interest. "IntroductionCanada has been one of the world's leading producers of uranium since atomic energy first became of practical importance in 1942. Indeed, prior to this time, between 1933 and 1940, Canada produced significant amounts of pitchblende, as a source of radium, from the Eldorado Mine at Great Bear Lake*.Uranium was first reported in Canada, however, in the middle of the 19th Century in the vicinity of Theano Point on Lake Superior north of Sault Ste. Marie. In the early 1900s, uranium-bearing minerals were reported in Quebec north of the St. Lawrence River and in pegmatites in Quebec and eastern Ontario. In 1930, G.A. LaBine and E.C. St. Paul visited an occurrence of cobalt reported by the Geological Survey of Canada in 1900, and brought the Eldorado Mine into production in 1933, as noted above, producing, in the main, silver and pitchblende.In 1942, developments in atomic energy were such that the Government of Canada, at the behest of Great Britain and the United States, requested that Eldorado, which had been closed in 1940, be re-opened to produce uranium for the Manhattan Project. In September, 1943, all discoveries of radioactive minerals were reserved to the Crown and their staking by private interests was banned. In January, 1944, the government nationalized Eldorado and formed a Crown corporation, the present Eldorado Nuclear Limited, to take over the assets. That year marked the formal beginning of uranium exploration in Canada.The Period 1944 to 1948In 1944, the Crown Corporation and the Geological Survey of Canada began exploring for uranium deposits, largely in the areas of Great Bear Lake and Lake Athabasca. In that year, A. W. Joliffe of the Survey visited properties on the north shore of Lake Athabasca near Beaverlodge Lake and recommended that Eldorado acquire claims in the area. In 1946, P. St. Louis and E. Laurum, prospectors working for Eldorado, found the pitchblende veinlets that led to the Ace Mine. Shaft sinking began in 1951, and production, through a carbonate leach plant, began in 1953.Continuing drilling on the Eldorado claims led to the Verna ore bodies, some 6,000 feet northeast of Ace, on which shaft sinking started in 1954."

"IntroductionAn integrated Truck Management Information System (Truck MIS) evolves as seemingly separate functions combined to yield a single homogeneous result / product. The concept of a computer integrated Truck MIS includes truck dispatch, truck maintenance management and truck weighing.A truck management system is only as good as the information / data bases input to it. The concept of an integrated system works best with automated data gathering. Automated data gathering provides timely and normally, the most accurate historical information/data bases. Data bases are, however, historical, which is a problem to be overcome in a computerized truck management information system, especially in regards to a truck dispatch system as loading sites / loading conditions and some dump site conditions continually change. As these changes occur, data base s must change as well, and thus the need for the continual update of data bases that the computer uses for a Truck MIS.For a truck dispatch system to achieve reliability / viability, dispatch decisions need to revolve around real time data gathered in an automated way. Integration of all truck management function s through automated data gathering lead s to the best over-all system.An integrated system is a combination of many different factors and is only as good as each factor / building block put in the system. With the proper building blocks, an integrated Truck MIS is very feasible - an MIS System that includes weighing, time and motion study, truck maintenance and maintenance management, as well as truck dispatch.Truck MISAn integrated Truck MIS provides for truck dispatch as the ultimate end result, a truly automated /integrated truck dispatch system (to function non-operator-dependent). The following comprises its central building blocks:-Time.- Haul Cycle Segments.Truck Status, i.e. Load on truck,- being loaded,- loaded,- unloaded,- in service,- out of service.- Vehicle Location.Loading Equipment Status.- in service,- out of service.Optional- distance travelled in each haul segment.With this data provided on a non-operator dependent basis, it is possible to build good data bases so a computer can make truck dispatch decisions. Asbestos analysis is conceptually simple. The objective, in most environmental analyses, is to determine the number of asbestos fibers per unit area or volume in a sample. The sample may be a consumer product, an ambient air sample, or a water sample. This determination is complicated by several factors: (1) sample collection and preparation, (2) counting techniques, and (3) operational definitions of asbestos in use. Three different definitions have been used in the study of environmental samples and are summarized in Table 1. The analytical procedure and detail required in the analysis vary with the definition of asbestos. Accordingly, this may be the only type of environmental analysis where the definition of a substance dictates the choice of analytical methods, and the rigor demanded of the analysis. Lead, arsenic, or beryllium are sub- stances having a constant definition and the method of analysis chosen depends on the concentration and precision required. However, the meaning of the term asbestos fiber is dependent on the eye of the beholder. Macroscopically, asbestos has certain physical properties that make it highly useful. Rockforming minerals do not display similar characteristics. Now, the question arises as to how three definitions of asbestos came into being. This is a result of two factors: (1) the definition of asbestos on any scale intrinsically involves the morphology or shape of the material, and (2) the advent of the transmission electron microscope permits detection of asbestos fibers and other mineral fragments in a size range where the physical properties of asbestos such as tensile strength, flexibility, or thermal resistance are difficult, if not impossible, to measure. There is a good deal of controversy about which definition is most appropriate for regulatory purposes because of a lack of appropriate health effects data (Cooper, 1978). Most differences of opinion center on the questions surrounding the following: 11 Morphology-Is a 3:l aspect ratio an appropriate medical or physical lower limit for the definition of an asbestos fiber? 2) Length-Are asbestos fibers shorter than some arbitrary length (5 pm) as hazardous as longer fibers? 3) Mineralogy-Is the mineralogical distinction between asbestos and nonasbestos minerals medically significant? While these questions are directly resolvable only with the biological and health effects data, ultimately such data reflects the ability of analytical procedures to fully characterize the materials used in health effects studies on animal models, and to monitor the exposure to particulates with different physical attributes in the workplace or community (Cooper, 1978). The following sections outline the analytical problems involved in distinguishing the asbestos and nonasbestos varieties of the same mineral; the analytical procedures available for identifying asbestos and measuring its concentration in environmental samples; the ability of these methods to distinguish asbestos fibers from nonasbestos particles; and their precision and reproducibility. Finally, we suggest some future directions in terms of definition and procedure that would greatly improve the quality of such analyses. ASBESTOS VS. A failure criterion for coal is proposed in which a distinction is made between brittle and "pseudo-ductile" failure. This criterion is then used in the development of new equations for coal pillar strength, including a transition from brittle fracture to pseudo-ductile yielding. In addition, equations are obtained which allow the äritical minimum pillar dimensions to be calculated to avoid "catastrophic" and "ultimate failure". The use of these formulae is then demonstrated by comparing the results with pillar case histories derived from the literature.

The results of a laboratory research program aimed at the development of a water jet assisted drag bit cutting system for coal mine applications are presented. Two types of drag bits, a conical and a plow bit, were tested in a hard sandstone rock with jet pressures of up to 20,000 psi. Jet locations investigated were in-front and behind the bit. For each jet mounting location, three jet impingement distances with respect to bit tip were tested. The closest jet impingement location to bit tip was found most effective, providing the greatest force reductions on the bit. Overall, significant bit force reductions up to 50 percent were obtained with jet assist. Also observed was a drastic reduction in airborne dust when jets were employed.

The metals industry is in complete chaos with mines being shut down, profits becoming non-existent, and continual losses to imports from other countries. Yet the raw material supplier to the glass industry has many opportunities to grow and to produce profits. Fortunately, the cost of most glass raw materials are low enough that competition from imports is not anywhere as critical as it is in the metal industries, such as copper, aluminum, lead, and others. But the glass raw material supplier must develop new products, both chemically and physically, to effectively compete in the future. The purpose of this paper is to point out generally where these opportunities exist and to suggest how they may be further developed. As the glass industry looks for energy saving materials, they look once again towards finer materials. A glass furnace is now approximately 40% efficient. Glass engineers are constantly striving for energy savings and it is well known that finer materials melt easier so that the manufacturer can operate his furnace either at lower temperatures for the same production or he can produce more material at the same temperature. The old 20 mesh sand specification is no longer sacred and as the mesh size for sand changes so do the specifications for all other raw materials used in the melting process. Highly instrumented glass furnaces can now measure quite accurately the energy needs to produce glass and can also measure the energy loss in each furnace. Glass technologists desire today a sand with a top size of 40 mesh while some would like to have the top at 60 mesh. This becomes more difficult to accomplish as a raw material supplier without .grinding. As you well know, grinding develops fines. Yet the same technologists will tell us that we can have nothing passing a 140 mesh screen. Therefore, we must develop processes which allows us to produce a finer screen size without increasing the amount of fines passing through the 140 mesh screen. To counteract this, different and changing industries are now demanding much finer products so possibly there will be markets for the fines which are currently separated out of the products. Methods that are practical and low cost must be found to develop different products with different screen specifications. What works for sand can be carried over to the other raw materials used in melting. Among the answers to finer products, of course, are pellets. Aglomeration or pelletizing has been looked at in the past and will be looked at in the future. Considerable work has been done in the glass container industry on this and must be carried out more extensively. By using aglomerated material or pellets, the glass producer will gain the benefits of melting fine materials without suffering from handling or dust problems. Pelletizing, particularly where using basic glass melting materials such as burned lime or sodium silicate, will not only produce a good pellets but will add desirable minerals to the glass batch.

An alternative development drilling strategy to the one currently in use at an open pit mine was investigated using geostatistics for a portion of the pit. The massive orebody, the 3-D nature of the problem, and the location of ultimate pit limit in the study area all created some unique problems in devising the development drilling strategy. Rather than using confidence interval of the global reserve estimate as the main criterion for development drilling, the confidence interval of short and medium range mine planning blocks was used as the objective. Based on somewhat arbitrarily selected level of confidence, the results from the study showed that a total of 50 diamond drillholes (DDHs) rather than the planned 62 DDHs is sufficient in the study area, if the selected confidence levels are acceptable to the management. The paper also emphasizes the importance of particular objectives being used in development drilling and how they influence the "optimal" placement of the development drillholes.

"IntroductionThe Key Lake uranium-nickel deposits are located within a Mineral Lease centred at latitude 57 ° 12' north and longitude 105 °39' west along the southeastern rim of the Athabasca sedimentary basin in northern Saskatchewan, approximately 240 km north of La Ronge (Fig. 1). Access is provided by an allweather provincial highway from Pinchousc, situated about 200 km to the south, and a private airstrip maintained at the mincsitc.These deposits have been developed by Key Lake Mining Corporation on behalf of the Saskatchewan Uranium Joint Venture. Participants in the joint venture include Saskatchewan Mining Development Corporation (50%), Urancrz Exploration and Mining Limited (33 1/3 %) and Eldor Resources Limited (16 2/3 %).Considerable geological work has been conducted on the Key Lake orebodies and reported in summary papers published by Dahlkamp and Thn, (1977), Dahlkamp, (1978), Gatzweiler eta/., (1979) and Kirchner el a/. , (1980). However, intensive geological research is ongoing, particularly since many problems regarding ore genesis and controls remain unresolved . Exploration History and DevelopmentThe events (Gatzweiler eta/., 1980) which led to the discovery of the Key Lake ore bodies began in the summer of 1971 by following up on the reports of airborne radiometric anomalies and anomalous radon values in the Zimmer Lake water situated approximately 5 km to 6 km to the southwest. This work succeeded in locating a few high-grade uranium and nickel-bearing boulders associated with esker material. An integrated program, consisting of various geochemical and geophysical surveys along with diamond drilling, culminated in the discovery of the Gaertner orebody during July 1975. Subsequent fence drilling across the strike extensions of this ore structure located the Deilmann deposit, approximately I km to the northeast, in June 1976"

INTRODUCTION Perhaps no other area reflects the art as well as the science of mining-engineering design quite as obviously as strata control. This is due to the fact that the design of mining structures is difficult because rock rarely behaves as a homogeneous medium. Further, the original state of stress and the mechanical proper- ties of the in situ rock are somewhat difficult to deter- mine. However, those aspects that are hard to treat mathematically can and have been successfully approached by model studies and in situ measurements. This chapter will review the fundamentals of strata- control design and will provide examples of applications to typical problems. STRESSES AROUND MINE OPENINGS A close examination of Fig. 1 reveals that, prior to mining, stresses exerted in the overburden can be in both the horizontal and vertical directions. In the example problems of Chapter 1, it was shown that the maximum compressive stress (uv) at any depth (D) below the surface can be approximated as follows: [ ] Further, the lateral stress (oh) is related to the maxi- mum compressive stress by utilizing Poisson's ratio (µ): [ ] As soon as a heading is driven, such as the one in the coal seam shown in Fig. 2, the stresses shift to the sides, or abutments, of the opening. Clearly, these compressive stresses around the opening exceed the pre-mining conditions. The problem of designing an underground opening, therefore, is to determine the maximum stresses and to note if they exceed the ultimate strength of the rock. Table 1 lists several rocks with their corresponding strengths. Figs. 3 to 5 depict the boundary stress concentrations around circular, ovaloidal, and rectangular openings. M is the ratio of the horizontal stress to the vertical stress, or as defined above, p/(l-p). This text will concentrate on the state of stress represented by M = 0.33, which corresponds to the condition of no lateral deformation in a rock having a Poisson's ratio of 0.25. For an ovaloid with an opening width-to-height ratio of 2.0 (Fig. 4), the boundary stress concentrations are at their maximum values at the comers of the opening, with values in excess of 3.0. "In October 1984, Rocanville Division began using a stacking system to handle potash mill tailings. Previous to this date, mill tailings were slurried to the top of the tailings pile and allowed to debrine while flowing mobile stackers. The stackers consist of cyclone packs to debrine the tailings and drag conveyors with screw discharges to deposit the tailings onto the existing pile. The paper will deal with the various aspects of the project from conception to its present state. IntroductionPrevious to 1984, when the stacking project was first implemented, potash mill tailings were handled as follows. Mill tailings were first debrined to approximately 65% solids using a cyclone cluster. The cyclone underflows were then introduced onto a vacuum scroll filter table. Here the tailings were further debrined and discharged into the disposal tank where the tailings were reslurried with reclaim brine and pumped to the tailings disposal site. At the disposal site the slurry was discharged onto the tailings pile and by a natural settling process the tailings were debrined with the brine ultimately collected in the reclaim brine ponds. The shape and profile of the tailings pile was controlled by building salt dikes to control the flow of the discharged tailings slurry. As the tailings pile grew in height, booster pumps were added to the disposal system."

Electricity is a major cause of lost-time accidents and fatalities in the mining industry. Major hazards and unsafe practices that contribute to electrical hazards are identified in this paper. Recommendations for reducing electrical accidents in surface mining are given and are directed toward the following three areas: preventing equipment contact with overhead lines, preventing maintenance related accidents, and defining system protection techniques.

BHP Minerals Ltd operates an open cut iron ore mining operation on Koolan Island, off the coast north of Derby in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The mine comprises a number of pits, the largest of which is situated adjacent to the coast on the southern side of the island. The lowest bench is currently at RL +2 m, and the mine has planned ultimate depth of RL -82 m. Mining has already extended below the pre-existing water table level, and below mean sea level. In 1984, an extensive program of drilling, geophysics and test pumping was instigated to evaluate the aquifer hydraulic properties and the nature of the groundwater flow regime. With the aid of computer modelling, predictions have been made of the likely dewatering and depressurization requirements, and a conceptual pumping and drainage system has been designed.

The U.S. Bureau of Mines and Western Fuels Utah, Inc. entered into an agreement to plan, install, and evaluate a micro-computer based monitoring and control system at Deserado Mine, an underground coal mine. The U.S. Bureau of Hines contracted the Colorado School of Mines (CSN) to independently evaluate the project. CSM evaluated and documented costs, benefits, problems, and management and labor perceptions in this report. Recommendations are provided for mine operators and monitoring system vendors considering future installations.

The value of domestic raw nonfuel mineral output in 1985 was estimated at $23.7 billion, 2% above the 1984 value of $23.1 billion. This crude mineral output was the basis for approximately $244 billion worth of processed materials of mineral origin. [ ] A U.S. company permanently closed its alumina plant in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, reducing domestic alumina capacity by 10%. Another U.S. company sold its 26% interest in an alumina plant in Jamaica to its two U.S. partners. On completion of the purchase agreement, the two remaining partners promptly closed the plant for an indefinite period, citing a world oversupply of alumina and unacceptably low prices.

The Bureau of Mines, following passage of the Solid Waste Disposal Act of 1965, was authorized to conduct research on methods for utilizing, stabilizing, or reclaiming mineral wastes. This report summarizes laboratory research conducted by the Bureau and cooperative field studies made with the mineral industry to reduce the environmental impacts of air and water pollution deriving from mineral wastes. Utilization research showed that both dry-press and steam-cured building bricks and ceramic tile could be made from copper mill tailings and other discarded mineral wastes. Sponge iron was produced from steel mill and amination industry wastes, and valuable mineral products were extracted from such diverse sources as flue dusts and uranium tailings. Mineral wastes were combined with agricultural and/or sewage wastes to make artificial soils that have the potential of resolving several disposal problems by production of a useful commodity. Physical, chemical, and vegetative stabilization methods were evaluated, singly and in combination, for reclamation potential on copper, uranium, lead-zinc, and asbestos tailings. Suitable methods were developed in the laboratory for overcoming major adverse conditions of these wastes such as salinity, heavy metal toxicity, acidity, basicity, lack of nutrients and organics, and unstable surfaces. Field testing of these methods was performed on a variety of mineral wastes. Costs for the various stabilization and utilization-procedures developed were also determined.

The bulk of Australia's uranium resour- ces was delineated in the last 18 years when a total of $563 million (1984 dollar values) was spent on uranium exploration. Australia's share of the low-cost Reasonably Assured Re- sources in the World Outside the Centrally Planned Economies Area (WOCA) increased from 1.5% in 1967 to 29% by the end of 1984 and its share of the low-cost Estimated Additional Resources (Category I) then stood at 25%. As of December 1984, Australia's uranium resour- ces were estimated by the BMR to be: Cost range US$80/kg U (US$30/lb U301) Reasonably Assured Resources 463 000 t U Estimated Additional Resources(I) 251 000 t U Cost range US$80-130/kg U (US$30-50/lb U308) Reasonably Assured Resources 63 000 t U Estimated Additional Resources(I) 126 000 t U The increases in Australia's resources was sustained by a group of large and rela- tively high-grade deposits which were disco- vered during the period 1969 to 1975. Austra- lia's share of the low-cost resources was also enhanced by a contraction of WOCA's low-cost resource base due to escalation of production costs for smaller low-grade deposits. Most of Australia's uranium resources are contained in the Proterozoic unconformity- type deposits of the Alligator Rivers uranium field and the stratabound deposit at Olympic Dam on the Stuart Shelf. Most of the remain- der of Australia's uranium resources is con- tained in calcrete-type deposits. Less than 10% of Australia's uranium resources are in sandstone-type deposits. Total Australian production to the end of 1984 amounted to 26 241 t U, representing 3.4% of WOCA's cumulative production. Aus- tralia's share of WOCA's annual production has steadily increased from 1.3% in 1977 to 11.2% in 1984 (4390 t U). The increases in Austra- lian production took place in the face of reductions of production in WOCA countries, principally the US, from a record level of 43 988 t U in 1980 to about 39 000 t U in 1984. New low-cost production centres, mainly in Australia and Canada, have partly compen- sated the decline in US production. The Department of Resources and Energy (1985) reported that Australian exports of yellowcake are expected to reach 10 000 t U308 (8480 t U) by 1993/94, representing an in- crease of about 13% oer annum.
