"Gas dispersion plays a fundamental role in froth flotation. Gas dispersion in flotation is quantified by using four properties: gas velocity, bubble size, gas hold-up and bubble surface area flux. Gas dispersion measurements were conducted in three flotation cells: TankCell 1, TankCell e300 and TankCell e500. The measurements reported in this paper were carried out exclusively in two-phase systems using only water and air at frother dosages exceeding the Critical Coalescence Concentration (CCC) in order to prevent bubbles from coalescing. The measurements conducted in TankCell 1 and TankCell e500 were conducted by Outotec specialists, whereas the characterization of TankCell e300 had been conducted earlier in 2008 by a team from McGill University. When working in two-phase systems and under non-coalescing conditions, gas dispersion characteristics measured in different scales can be compared directly. The measurements conducted in TankCell e300 are taken as a base line in order to compare the performance of TankCell e500, whereas TankCell 1 is a pilot-scale flotation cell which is used in rotor testing. The gas dispersion properties in TankCells were found to be affected by the air flow rate and rotor tip speed. Bubble sizes (d32) measured on the three-size scale seem to be within the same range of 0.6 mm to 1.6 mm. It was noted that the bubble size was influenced by rotor tip speed and gas velocity. In general, as the rotor tip speed increased, the bubble size decreased and as the gas velocity increased, so did the bubble size. The rotor tip speed also has an impact on the hold-up; in general, as the rotor tip speed increased the gas hold-up also increased but the influence of air flow rate on gas hold-up was greater. Bubble surface area flux was found to vary between 40 and 85 1/s. As the gas velocity increased, the bubble surface area flux also increased."

"Gas dispersion properties of sodium salts of 6, 12 and 18-carbon fatty acids (hexanoic, lauric and oleic acid) were investigated as a function of pH. A strong effect of pH was observed on gas dispersion properties of fatty acids. At high pH for 12 and 18 carbon fatty acids, at which these surfactants formed a true solution, the gas dispersion properties were similar to those of MIBC. In the case of sodium hexanoate, which has a much higher solubility than the longer chain fatty acids and therefore does not form precipitates, the gas dispersion properties of this surfactant were strongly enhanced in the acidic pH range, where hexanoic acid was fully associated. This result is an indication that undissociated hexanoic acid is much more surface-active than anionic hexanoate. Only a small effect of the surfactant chain length on gas dispersion properties of the tested reagents was observed. The measured critical coalescence concentration (CCC95) values increase slightly by decreasing chain length and range from 5.8 x 10-5 mol/L (17.7 mg/L) for sodium oleate to 7.2 x 10-5 mol/L (16 mg/L) for sodium laurate at pH 10 and 1.9 x 10-4 mol/L (26 mg/L) for sodium hexanoate at pH 3.7. These are compared to CCC95 of MIBC, which is measured to be 8 x 10-5 mol/L (8 mg/L). The soluble molecular species were recognized as the most effective species in preventing bubble coalescence."

"Until the advent of intensive cyanidation, gold gravity concentrates were generally treated by tabling. The table concentrates were smelted while table middlings and tailings were recycled to the milling circuit for further grinding and subsequent leaching in the CIP/CIL circuit. Gold recovery on production tables is relatively low, often only 30 percent, and rarely above 60 percent. Significant factors in tabling performance are; mineralogy and the operator’s experience and ability. Units have been developed by Gekko Systems to treat both batch and continuous gold concentrates. Unit sizes are determined by leach kinetics and the required residence time of the concentrate in the unit.Gekko commenced the commercialisation of intensive leaching of gravity gold concentrates in 1997 with the first commercial prototype of the InLine Leach Reactor (ILR). Over 20 units are now installed worldwide with half that number on the African continent. South African mines, South Deeps (Placer Dome WAJV) and Target (AvGold) have both installed InLine Leach Reactors. Ashanti Goldfields have placed the ILR on their standard equipment list and have six operating units with a seventh on order. AngloGold installed one of the first ILR production units at Morila in Mali.Gekko Systems successfully installed an ILR1000 Batch unit at the Antapite Mine in Peru in December 2002. The unit was installed to treat gravity concentrates and to replace a shaking table. Following installation, gravity gold recovery increased from 15% to 40% of total gold. The unit was operational from start up and the first gravity batch treated achieved 98% gold recovery. The gravity concentrates also have a high silver content and 95% recoveries on silver were also achieved.Preliminary testwork identified that the concentrates required additional oxygen to achieve peak performance. As a result of optimisation work in the laboratory, leach kinetics in the ILR have been excellent with only 6 hours residence required to achieve maximum gold extraction."

"Mining processing plants are the most high-performing industrial enterprises in the world economy system. Even at an average-scale mining enterprise, the grain-size separation equipment continuously processes 105 to 106 dissimilar mineral particles per hour. In separation by physical properties, their number increases by at least 10 to 50 times. Mathematical modeling of such a high flow of discrete particles is carried out using two different approaches: the discrete-particle and the phenomenological methods. The calculations demonstrate the possibility of handling big data when describing the processes of separation of granular material. INTRODUCTION The interest to the screening process and the process of formation of new screen designs in Mekhanobr is traditional since the moment of its foundation. It is symbolical that the first publication of the Mekhanobr proceedings in 1924 was the monograph dedicated to screens and screening products as such, which was the first one in the world at that moment. It was a book of Prof. L. B. Levenson, one of the founders of Mekhanobr, who headed the Technical Bureau of the Institute. Vibratory screening is the most mass process in the technologies of solid minerals processing, which determines significantly the energy demands of crushing and grinding cycles, and at some enterprises determines the quality of the final product, for example in case of crushed stone, coal or abrasive materials production. The general understanding and simulation of the process of poly-dispersed granular materials vibratory screening was developed at several conceptual levels taking into account the features of classification of materials with different size and density.Considering the real industrial processes of vibration screening, it shall be noted that at the sieve surface of the screen in the initial part of the deck the classification in a thick material layer (in natural conditions) occurs, which further transfers to a thin layer (free movement). In the process of screening of light minerals, for example coal or metallurgic feedstock, screening is mainly performed in the thick layer."

In India, bauxite deposits are concentrated in Central India, Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats. Bauxites from various regions in Gujarat were identified during the present investigations of geochemical mapping. Different types of Bauxites samples were collected from Kachchh, Jamnagar, Porbunder, Junagarh, Bhavnagar and Amreli areas of Gujarat state and were studied in detail for their geochemical signatures to plot the data on Geochemical map. Raw bauxites were characterized by using powder XRD, XRF, ICP and optical microscopy techniques (with the help of Model microscope having both transmitted and reflected light setups) and were later examined to grade their quality. Most of the bauxites from Kachchh region were of high-grade (gibbsitic) type; while those of Sourashtra region were of low-grade (lateritic / calcitic) types. Most of these bauxites were either of ferruginous/lateritic or of calcareous/calcitic types. Based on the mineralogical composition, such as gibbsite, hematite and/or goethite, Kaolinite and calcite minerals present in particular bauxites, the deposits were graded. Finally, the Geochemical mapping of Bauxites for Gujarat region was prepared and discussed.

"Vizcachitas is an advanced stage copper–molybdenum porphyry deposit, fully owned by Los Andes Copper and located in Central Chile. The property contains an indicated resource of 1,038 million tonnes grading 0.37% Cu and 0.012% Mo, and an inferred resource of 318 million tonnes grading 0.345% Cu and 0.013% Mo (Coffey & Alquimia, 2014). The deposit occurs in the same geological belt as several other giant copper-molybdenum porphyry deposits including Río Blanco-Los Bronces, Los Pelambres-Pachon and El Teniente. In 2018, the original Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) study from 2014 was updated; this paper presents the geometallurgical testwork that was performed to support that update. The testwork focused on the metallurgical characterization of 40 DDH samples and the development of a more profound orebody knowledge by relating geological features with metallurgical performance. The scope of work included complete chemical and mineralogical QemSCAN characterization; SAG, ball mill and abrasion testing; complete rougher and cleaner kinetics including locked-cycle-test; environmental ABA and settling tests on rougher tailings. The results show that the ore can be classified as medium-hard, with a hardness that is slightly below the average for large Cu/Mo deposits in the region. A good correlation was found between lithology and breakage characteristics, implying that the specific energy consumption (kWh/t) is well correlated to rock type. The results of the flotation tests were very encouraging and did not show significant variability. An overall Cu recovery of 91% can be expected for the flotation circuit. The use of a relatively coarse primary grind size gave good final recovery and grade for both Cu and Mo, and deserves further attention in future work, as this impacts positively both energy consumption and water recovery.INTRODUCTION Los Andes Copper Ltd. is a Canadian exploration and development company focused on the acquisition, exploration and development of advanced stage copper deposits in Latin America. "This paper focuses on the beneficiation of the REE-Y-Nb-Zr complex ore from the ‘Khalzan Buregtei’ deposit, Mongolia. Pre-concentration based on mineralogical studies was investigated at the Unit of Mineral Processing (AMR) and the Institute of Applied Mineralogy and Economic Geology of RWTH Aachen University. In order to minimize the energy consumption in the most energy intensive grinding process a pre-concentration process using dry magnetic separation of particle sizes coarser than required for the liberation of the valuable ore minerals was designed. Dry magnetic separation in the particle size range of 63-250 µm is suitable as the pre-concentration method, due to the intergrowth of REE-Y-Nb-Zr bearing minerals with magnetic minerals determined by QEMSCAN© analysis. The results showed that a mass reduction of 45.3 wt.-% at high recoveries of REE, Y, Nb and Zr (90 wt.-% and higher) in the pre-concentration product was achieved at the beginning of the process chain. The improvement of process efficiency as shown in this study depends on the abundance and association of minerals affecting the magnetic properties (e.g. hematite) of the ores. Therefore, these mineralogical parameters are as important as grain size and ore grade for the geometallurgical evaluation of potential mining operations at ‘Khalzan Buregtei’.INTRODUCTION Polymetallic deposits containing other critical elements besides REE have the advantage of being robust to economic development and fluctuations of individual metal prices. (Gronen et al., 2016). These deposits can host economic grades of heavy and light REE, Y, Nb, Ta, Zr in complex mineralogical compositions. About 120 deposits of this type are known worldwide, including ‘Norra Kärr’ in Sweden, ‘Strange Lake’ in Canada and ‘Khalzan Buregtei’ in Mongolia which are not valued economically yet. "This paper summarizes the activities performed to predict SAG milling throughput at Minera Esperanza. Having highly reliable geometallurgical models aided by the new computer tools and specific metallurgical testing to rely on has become a major issue in recent times due to their impact on the business. Minera Esperanza’s SAG throughput model was constructed by characterizing the ore feed and operational parameters of the plant. Producing a robust model required satisfying number of requirements for the parameters used for both the ore and the plant as follow: 1) geologic and geometallurgical characterization parameters; and 2) parameters of a plant running at the rated production under optimum operating conditions. Obtaining these parameters required increasing the quantity of samples and metallurgical testing through drilling campaigns, mapping the drill holes and putting samples through various comminution tests while sampling all operational flows at the plant to obtain the metallurgical information for the operational parameters. The information was entered on the JKSimMet software to enable a throughput model to be developed to output SAG mill throughput predictions that are very close to actual throughput figures, i.e., accurate within a range of 2% on a monthly basis."

"The extractive metallurgy of precious metal ores involves gravity concentration, flotation and cyanide leaching. Pre-oxidation, such as roasting, autoclaving, bacterial oxidation and other techniques, is required for processing refractory ores. Selection of the process is mainly driven by the grade, reserve and mineralogy of the target elements. The concentrations of precious metals in the crust are extremely low and highly variable, resulting in ore variability in many gold, silver and PGE deposits. More importantly, precious metals in an ore may occur in two or three forms (i.e. microscopic, submicroscopic and surface-bound), making ore processing of precious metals extremely challenging. The objective of geometallurgy and process mineralogy is to reduce and minimize the technical risk in project evaluation, process selection, mine planning and production forecasting through geometallurgical modelling, representative sampling and subsequent systematic mineralogical characterization and metallurgical testwork. Geometallurgy is a technique to document variability within an orebody and quantify and evaluate the impact of many factors including geology and mineralogy on grinding, flotation, leaching and metal recovery processes, while mineralogy is one of the major predictive and trouble-shooting tools for many new mineral projects and operating mines. This paper presents an overview of fundamentals, methodologies and techniques applied in geometallurgy and process mineralogy and highlights the importance of both disciplines in process selection and plant optimization with applicable case studies. INTRODUCTION Precious metals, including gold, silver and platinum group elements (PGE) occur in various geological settings and ore types. The concentrations of these metals in the crust are extremely low and highly variable, resulting in ore variability in many gold, silver and PGE deposits. More importantly, precious metals in an ore may occur in two or three forms (i.e. microscopic, submicroscopic and surface-bound), making ore processing of precious metals extremely challenging. Process selection is most important in any precious metals project and is mainly driven by the grade, reserve and mineralogy of the target elements. Free-milling ores, such as Kupol in Russia, Hemlo in Canada, Grasburg in Indonesia, UG-2 in South Africa, Lac des Iles in Canada, and Noril’sk in Russia, can be processed using flotation or cyanidation with or without gravity. B2Gold Corp, a Canadian gold company, just started a number of new and under construction free-milling gold operations such as Fekola mill in Mali, Mastbati mine in Philippins and Otjikoto mine in Nambia. However, refractory ores (particularly gold ores), such as the Carlin and Goldstrike mines in the USA, Giant in Canada, Pueblo Viejo in Dominican Republic, Porgera and Lihire in PNG, Kittilla in Finland, Fairview in South Africa and Shuiyindong in China, must be processed using pre-oxidation prior to cyanide leaching. In some mildly refractory gold ores, such as Kumtor mine in Kyrgyzstan and KCGM in Australia, ultrafine grinding is required to liberate fine-grained gold particles. For some gold ores containing both free-milling and refractory components (such as Cripple Creek mine in Colorado, USA), two or more recovery processes may be required. The variability of grade, metal deportment, ore hardness and other parameters is one of the risks that encountered in development and operation of many precious metals projects. To minimize and reduce the technical risk caused by ore variability, geometallurgy and process mineralogy have been used by mining companies in the last two decades to measure and quantify the spatial variability of the deposits that are being developed. LKAB (Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara AB) is operating iron ore mines, concentration plants and pelletizing plants in Northern Sweden. Geometallurgy, which combines geological and metallurgical information is not a new way of thinking at LKAB, but rather a revised and updated version of an old working process. A project called "Silica in the Mine" which started in 2007, was an important reason to set a new focus at the geometallurgy. The target of the project was to develop a simplified method in laboratory scale to predict SiO2 grade in the magnetite concentrate in Kiruna and further predict the physical properties of the crude ore with respect to processing characteristics. The connection between mineralogy and products properties have started to be even more vital and necessary to examine due to the future exploiting new iron ore deposits. Geometallurgy at LKAB can be described as a mental and strategic framework where the Research and Development department (R&D), and others within the organization of LKAB, aims towards the connection of the minerals-production-products. It could in its basics be called "research & development", but it must be clarified that changes have been made, mainly due to the development on the instrumental analysis side. LKAB’s idea is to work quite broad, with internal educations, an active working process in ongoing projects, together with external parties (such as universities), with several PhD-projects and an upgrading on the instrumental side at the LKAB Research & Development department. This paper is a summary about the concept Geometallurgy at LKAB and some of the actions within its framework.

"The main purpose of geometallurgy is to improve the mine planning by mapping hardness and throughput into the mine block model using geostatistics to eliminate the large production fluctuations caused by the ore hardness variability coming from different parts of the pit. However, not all grinding testwork available commercially can be applied to geometallurgy because of large amount of sample required and the associated cost per test. Geometallurgy is now being used in designing grinding mill but as the mining project progress, the accuracy of engineering must improve from 30-35% during the scoping study to 10-15% at the bankable feasibility stage and less than 5% for Engineering Procurement and Construction Management. For SAG milling, the SAG Variability Test (SVT) is an abbreviated version of the standard SAGDesign test developed for this geometallurgical need. The same amount of ore than the original test is ground for three cycles into an open batch SAG test and then the SAG pinion energy is predicted to the standard end point of 80% passing 1.7 mm. For ball milling, a Bond Variability Test (BVT) was also developed using the SAG ground ore from the SVT. The Bond ball mill grindability (Gpb), corresponding to the average of the net grams per revolution from the last three cycles of the Bond test, is also predicted from the third cycle. The relative error for both the predicted SAG ore hardness (WSVT) and Bond Work Index on SAG Variability ground ore (Sv-BVI), in kWh/t, averaged 5.5% and 3.8% respectively compared to the SAGDesign testwork values and are within 7% and 10% respectively from plant benchmark and within 7% from the samples sent to all partner laboratories. Both tests can be continued to measure the true hardness necessary for mill sizing. This article discusses the development of these two new tests, SVT and BVT, their potential use and accuracies in any geometallurgical program."

Geopolymers are novel engineering materials with the potential to play a highly significant role in the transformation of the construction materials and building products industry in the push to-wards sustainable development. These materials are formed by activation of industrial aluminosilicate waste materials such as coal ash or blast furnace slag with alkaline solutions. Some mineral waste can also be used, either as fillers or as reactive components. The use of waste-based geopolymers results in significant (up to 90%) reduction in carbon dioxide emissions when used in cement replacement applications. In addition to the formation of conventional pre-cast products, these high performance mineral binders are ideally suited to use in the conversion or encapsulation of toxic waste, including radioactive waste, due to their chemical stability and resistance to acid attack. It is the aim of this paper to review recent developments on the science underpinning this ?green? technology, and to discuss the technical and commercial drivers governing the large-scale adoption of the technology. Some of the recent fundamental breakthroughs in the study of geopolymer technology at the University of Melbourne will be presented. Despite the complexity of this reactive sol-id-gel system, progress has been made in the development of a thermochemical reaction kinetic model that has been validated using both calorimetric data and synchrotron kinetic data. Geopolymerization is potentially a disruptive technology, so that it is normal to expect strong resistance from established companies in the construction materials industry. It is increasingly necessary that waste generating industries such as mining collaborate with industries such as construction that could utilize this waste. The world?s first full scale geopolymer plant utilizing waste and re-cycled material has been commissioned recently in Melbourne, Australia, so progress on commercialization will also be presented. The authors frequently present keynote lectures on geopolymer science and technology at materials science, ceramics and construction materials conferences. However, this interdisciplinary technology that is still in its infancy, deserves more attention in the mineral processing and mining industry in view of its potential use in the mining industry, and also in view of the importance of mineral processing techniques in recent advances in geopolymers.

"The use of thiosulfate as an alternative lixiviant for cyanide to treat complex refractory ores followed by the use of ion exchange resins (IX resins) for gold recovery has become an industrial reality. In this study, polyethylenimine (PEI) coated iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) were used to recover gold from the leaching solutions that consist of calcium thiosulfate, copper and gold. The gold loaded MNPs were easily separated from the solution using an external magnetic field. Proposing a novel adsorbent with characteristically easy solid-liquid separation, to recover gold from synthetic thiosulfate leaching solutions and gold elution and reuse of MNPs were the main objectives of this study. Adsorption isotherm studies revealed that the data fitted both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models equally well. The maximum adsorption capacity was 18.5 mg/g at pH 8 and 50?C. According to thermodynamic studies the physisorption process was exothermic and spontaneous. Gold and copper elution, and the regeneration and reuse of the nanoparticles were investigated and promising results were obtained. Different elution systems comprising sulfites, chlorides, glycine, EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) and sodium hydroxide were considered. Among them, EDTA for copper elution and NaOH for gold elution were the most efficient eluants. Regeneration and reuse studies revealed that the MNPs can be used for several cycles without significant performance loss. INTRODUCTION Although cyanidation has been used for gold leaching for more than 100 years, some major drawbacks associated with cyanidation have led to a quest for alternative lixiviants for gold leaching. Cyanide is ineffective in treating carbonaceous refractory ores as gold cyanide complex is adsorbed onto the native carbon in the ore itself known as preg-robbing. On the other hand environmental concerns associated with cyanidation drives the need for environmental friendly alternatives for cyanide. As of today, thiosulfate is known to be the most extensively studied and most promising alternative lixiviant for cyanide in both technical and environmental perspectives (Aylmore and Muir 2001, Oraby 2009)."

Porphyry copper deposits are the most important source of copper and also gold within the orogenic belts. These deposits are characterized by low grade copper ore (0.2% to 1% copper) and host precious metals like gold, silver and platinum. A characterization tool has been developed for complex porphyry type copper-gold deposits with an aim to quantify copper and precious metal deportment. This quantification is a challenging task due to low grades and also due to the presence of both visible and invisible precious metal content in different sulphide and non-sulphide phases. Studies were initiated on various complex, ore deposits and also on samples representing various processing streams such as flotation and leach products. This paper presents the development of a systematic approach to diagnostic metallurgy using state-of-the-art optical and automated mineralogy, micro-probe, dynamic SIMS and TOF-SIMS analysis for quantification of invisible and visible precious metals content in various species. The relevance of this characterization to metallurgy will also be briefly discussed in this paper.

The leached solution has been recovered by solvent extraction and the optimum conditions have been investigated.SUMMARYIn this investigation, a sponge gold sample (99.92% pure) has been leached with ammonium thiosulfate solution. The effects of CuSO4, (NH4)2S2O3, (NH4)2SO4, NH4OH and retention time on the gold leaching % (extraction %) and thiosulfate oxidation % (consumption %) have been studied. The copper ion acts as a catalyst in gold dissolution. On the other hand, it also accelerates oxidation of thiosulfate (consumption). It was found in this study that the best gold extraction condition was obtained at 43.2 ks with 0.8 – 1.0x103 mol/m3 (NH4)2S2O3, 30 mol/m3 CuSO4, 2.0 – 3.0x103 mol/m3 NH4OH, 0.4 – 0.5x103 mol/m3 (NH4)2SO4, pH 10±0.2 and 150 rpm. The thiosulfate oxidation was about 15% of the initial concentration."

The thiosulfate oxidation was about 15% of the initial concentration.For gold recovery from the pregnant solution, the trioctylmethyl ammonium chloride (TOMAC) was used in this investigation as an extractant to extract gold from thiosulfate solution without pH and other adjustments. The effects of gold concentration, pH, ammonia, thiosulfate and cupric ionic concentrations, extractant and diluent concentrations and retention time on the gold recovery were investigated. It was found that 180 mol/m3 extractant diluted with n-octant at O/A ratio of 1:1 could extracted the 100% of gold in 0.6 ks from the thiosulfate solution at the optimal leaching conditions. The 100% gold stripping could be achieved with 10% thiourea solution."

This paper presents gold occurrence investigations on the altered rock gold deposit from Jiaodong area of China, and comparisons of gold occurrence in the ore samples from different mining levels. According to the results, the chemical and mineral compositions of raw materials from different mining levels are quite similar. However, the relative content and grain size of gold minerals are quite different between the two mining levels of -130m~-340m and -550m~-650m. In the ore of upper mining levels of -130m~-340m, electrum is the dominant gold mineral and accounts for about 80% of the total gold minerals, while native gold is minor and accounts for about 20%. As for the ore of deep mining levels of -550m~-650m, the major gold mineral shifts to native gold which accounts for 67%, while the ratio of electrum drops to about 33%. Coarser gold grain size was observed in the upper mining level ore with a mean size of 33.05µm while the gold grain size was much finer in the ore of deep mining levels with a mean size of 22.85µm. Furthermore, the gold mineral associations also show different patterns between the upper mining level samples and the deep mining level samples. Of the three observed gold association types such as inclusion gold, fissure gold and interparticle gold, more inclusion gold was found in the ore of deep mining levels. The inclusion gold accounts for 62% in the ore of deep mining levels, while that in the ore of upper mining levels accounts for about 56%. Further study revealed that the dominant gold associated minerals are pyrite and sulphides and only a small amount of gold is associated with quartz and silicates. It was shown that the altered rock gold ore from Jiaodong area can be regarded as a free milling gold ore, but the processing parameters should be optimized for the ores in different mining levels according to the different gold occurrence. In addition, it was predicted that enhanced gold liberation is necessary for the ore in deep mining levels.

A continuum based granular flow model of charge motion that combines the inherent frictional nature of particles with its distinctly fluid-like structure is presented. Starting with Newton?s 2nd Law on a volume element of charge, we derive the velocity field in the bed free-surface and the rising en-masse region. Invoking flux conservation within the two regimes of interest then yields a (simple) differential equation for the free-surface of the charge body. Combining the velocity field gradients with a suitable constitutive choice for the shear stress completes the picture with a description of the in-situ rate of shear power dissipation in a tumbling mill ? a mechanistically correct account of power draw in a tumbling mill. Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT) was used to measure the in-situ flow fields of the charge within opaque systems like tumbling mills. The accurate velocity and mass distribution derived from PEPT form the basis for direct verification of the resulting granular flow models. In this regard a wide range of milling conditions is investigated and presented in this paper.

"The present paper contains study results of gold morphology and grain size distribution in flotation concentrates produced from original ore samples from deposits of different genesis. Pre-concentration methods were used with selective dissolution of rock minerals and mineral heavy medium separation to obtain statistically valid data on gold grain size and morphology in concentration products. Special attention is given to study of flash flotation concentrates that is mainly used for coarse gold, underextracted in gravity circuit. Analysis of geometrical optics has allowed to establish that during flash flotation gold grains more than 150 µm can be extracted from 10 to 35%, and in some cases single gold grains above 300 µm. INTRODUCTION Distinctive features of gold that have a significant impact, and in some cases, decisive influence on its recovery into saleable products are mineral shape, grain size and morphology of metal particles, paragenetic associations of gold. Peculiar feature of coarse gold is its easy extraction during grinding from associated mineral components like quartz, sulphide and other and almost complete recovery into gravity concentrates (Lodeischikov V.V., 1997). Morphology of native gold is so diverse that different gold grains are better extracted using different methods of concentration. Compacted and rounded particles are easily processed using gravity concentration but low cyanidable and hard to process using flotation. On the contrary, lamellar, flake, dendrite and capillary aggregates of high specific surface are easily cyanidable and under definite conditions it has strong floatability (Lodeischikov V.V., 1997). Flotation of gold-containing sulphide minerals and free gold takes place simultaneously during flotation concentration. In case of low-sulphide ores, native gold takes the basic load, having the high density (15.6 to 18.3 g/cm3, for pure gold – 19.3 g/cm3) it has limited size and morphology for successful flotation. It is known that flake gold and fine-grained gold up to 0.1 mm are easily extracted (Lodeischikov V.V., 1997). Authors of the present paper performed a study of gold granulometry and morphology in flotation concentrates produced from gold-containing ores from two deposits of different types: gold-copper oxidized hematite ores and low-sulphide gold-quartz ores. Ores are different by both host rock composition, mineralogical and petrographic features, gold grade in mineral assemblage and morphology and size of precious metal. Common for both ore types is low-sulphide content and presence of free gold."

"The present paper summarises the results of gravity pneumatic concentration of a borax ore with 17.5 % B2O3. The sample was extracted from the Tincalayu ore deposit located in the Salta Province of Argentina.The applied methodology was based on a former study (Zuleta, 1985). It consisted of sample characterization by means of physical and mineralogical determinations, chemical analyses as well as pneumatic table concentration tests. In this, a simplified concentrating flowsheet was utilized.A concentrate with 30.6 % B2O3 and 74.7 % recovery was obtained. The recovery was 8.8 % less than previously reported and that was of 30.6 % B2O3 with 87 % recovery. Nevertheless, the simplified flow sheet presented processes only two granulometric fractions, - 6.4 mm + 0.3 mm and - 0.3 mm, compared to the three granulometric fractions used in the previous study: - 6.4 mm + 1.4 mm; - 1.4 mm + 0.3 mm and . 0.3 mm. This would simplify industrial implementation."
