Over the entire life cycle of a mine, from early resource evaluation to the blasting of benches, the collection of geochemical data is crucial for the site operator, who must routinely and intensively drill and sample the orebody. This produces huge numbers of physical samples, in turn requiring significant cost and time for their preparation and assay. Moreover, despite best efforts, the sample recovery process is prone to error, which limits the quality of data.The pulsed neutron gamma technique has been used for decades in various industries, in particular oil logging, for its ability to provide direct identification and quantification of elemental concentrations. However, its implementation in logging tools for the mining sector is relatively recent. Built around the latest in technology for optimal spectrometric measurement, a commercial tool referred to as FastGrade™ 100 has been available for a few years and used with increasing success in the mining environment, specifically the iron ore industry, resulting in a reduction in the amount of collected samples. Relying on the physics of neutrons and gamma photons, both of which are particles that penetrate the surrounding bedrock through several tens of centimetres, such spectroscopy tools measure in real-time the composition of a much larger volume than the delimited volume of the drilled material traditionally used for geochemical mapping. Better statistics and reliability of the estimated composition increase the ability to properly and quickly measure drilled holes and allow the substituting of all or part of the sampling and assaying efforts by geochemical log data. Our paper focuses on this technology, known as pulsed fast and thermal neutron analysis (PFTNA). It reviews the main drivers for the design of such a logging tool and discusses how the fundamental characteristics of the technology, in terms of neutrons and gamma interactions, translate into interpretation of the analytical output.CITATION:Jeanneau, P, Flahaut, V and Maddever, R A M, 2017. Unlike molecular high explosives, commercial explosives based on ammonium nitrate do not detonate ideally according to the theoretical model for steady state, one-dimensional detonation. One of the reasons for this deviation from ideal detonation is the slower chemical reaction, due to less intimate contact between the oxidiser and fuel components. It is well known that the inclusion of gas pockets, such as microballoons, in the formulation of ammonium nitrate based emulsions and watergels enhances the performance of these explosives. Various different interpretations of the “hot spot” theory have been proposed to explain this phenomenon.

The aim of the present work is to investigate the effects of shooting multiple explosive charges, in the same borehole, on the amplitude and frequency content of the generated seismic wave. The work also investigates the effect of the coupling medium used in the borehole on the quality of the generated seismic wave. The delay period between the shots is on the order of months and up to a year. The investigation utilizes a numerical modeling approach which is capable of modeling the detonation of explosives as well as shock and stress wave propagation in solids.

ALTHOUGH the stocks of Lake Superior iron ore on dock or at furnaces at the beginning of the year were about 6,000,000 tons less than at the beginning of 1938, the steel industry was operating at only 52 1/2 per cent of capacity and continued at approximately this rate to about Aug. 1. Consequently the iron mines in the Lake Superior district during the winter and spring period were almost all on a curtailed production basis, governed mostly by the needs of the communities rather than by anticipation of ore demands. Many of these properties gave extra employment by prosecuting heavy strip- ping programs, and the underground mines by shaft sinking and rock development. All underground mines re- turned to full operation in September, mostly two-shift, five days per week. A few operated the sixth day. The ship- ping schedules were increased so that the actual delivery for the year exceeded early expectations by about 20 per cent. Final Lake shipments were slightly in excess of 45,000,000 gross tons.

With an experimental apparatus developed recently, model tests on piles were conducted in sand subjected to triangular soil movement profiles. Four instrumented piles tests are reported, which show the pile behavior predominantly determined by soil sliding depth. Axial load can create additional bending moment and pile deflection, which also make mode of pile-soil interaction change with sliding depth. Limiting resistance was found 1.5~3 times higher than currently used for laterally loaded piles in sand.

A Knudsen effusion tnethod I~as been used lo measure the vapor pressure of pure iron in the temperature range 1000° to 1500°C. Neutron-irradiated , natural iron was used and the Mn'~proclzdced by the (n, p) reaction removed by evaporation at high temperature. The results can be represented by the equation: where pM - 1.088 x 107 atm and T, = 20,890°K. A value of 100.2 kcal per g- atom was obtained for AH;. THE vapor pressure of pure iron in the temperature range 1000" to 1500°C has been measured. Radioactive iron and a Knudsen cell technique were used and the Mn' produced by an (n, p) reaction removed by evaporation at high temperature. From the variation of vapor pressure with temperature values of the enthalpy and entropy of solid iron have been found. Previous workers2 used a Lang-muir method and measurements were made over a smaller temperature range than that in this work. EXPERIMENTAL The apparatus used was similar to that of Pyle and Shuttleworth, and McLellan and Shuttle worth. However, because of the higher temperatures the Knudsen cell was machined from tungsten bar and the flanged furnace tube was beryllia. Heating was by passing a high current (70 amp at 7 v for 1500°K) through a strip of tantalum foil laid across the top of the cell and through a turn of molybdenum wire around the furnace tube. This method of heating ensured that the top of the cell was slightly hotter than the base and prevented condensation and re-evaporation from the orifice. The temperature was measured by means of a pt/Pt 13 pct Rh thermocouple spot-welded to the base of the crucible. To ensure accurate temperature measurement the iron was in the form of a thin disc (0.75 cm diam by 0.075 cm) which lay on the base of the cell. The high-purity iron was irradiated in the Harwell pile for a week at a neutron flux of 1.2 X 10" neutrons per sq cm per sec. The isotopes fe'~ and Fe" are produced by (n! y) reactions but only Fe", half-life 45.1 days, is a emitter; Mn which is also a y emitter, half-life 300 days, is produced simultaneously by an (n,p) reaction.' Immediately after irradiation of natural iron the ratio of ~e" to Mn y activity was 100:l. However, manganese is very much more volatile than iron and almost all the y activity of the condensate is due to Mn'~. Thus it was essential to eliminate all the manganeses before any measurement of the vapor pressure of iron was made and this was done by preliminary heating for 20 hr at 1400°C. For each determination the iron was dissolved from the target with acid and the y activity compared to a known weight of iron. By means of a y-ray spectrometer the y-activity measurements were made at the 1.09-mev peak of the 17e5' spectrum where the background was of the order of 3 cpm. Despite the low specific activity of ~e" a mass of 10- " g of iron could be determined corresponding to a vapor pressure of about l0-'' atm. Coal-oil mixture (COM) combustion technology is regarded by the US Department of Energy (DOE) as near term and Potentially applicable to existing utility and industrial steam generators and for injection into blast furnaces. From work done previously, it has been established that COM can be burned in existing boilers and blast furnaces. Therefore, the issues being addressed by the current DOE program are: (1) determination of best available technology to achieve environmentally acceptable long-term reliable operation and (2) determination of applications for which COM can be utilized economically. Some of the technological options have begun to be determined by projects already under way. However, many projects are still in the early stages of development.

Reactive ground is ground that undergoes a spontaneous exothermic reaction after it comes into contact with nitrates. This is commonly caused by inert rock hosting sulphide minerals, such as pyrites that act as the reagent. The presence and subsequent rate of reaction with nitrate based bulk explosives can be difficult to predict. Once identified, only explosives that are tested and proven to be compatible with the reactive ground may only be used. These typically take the form of inhibited ammonium nitrate emulsion blended with a limited volume of ANFO or porous prilled ammonium nitrate (PPAN) to ensure that all AN prills in the blend are wholly encapsulated and thus protected from the reactive ground. The requirement for high emulsion content bulk products limits the suite of products available for use to high energy, and high expense products. Further, if chemically sensitised products are used, charged holes must be left unstemmed to allow for gassing to occur, adding delay and exposing the blast crew to an unconfined charge in reactive ground. A range of inhibited products has been developed that are solid sensitised and can be bulked to as low as 0.9 g/cc (56.2 lb/ft3). The use of a solid sensitiser enables stemming to occur immediately after each hole is charged, confining any unplanned detonation more safely within the rock mass. The effective and precise manufacture of bulked inhibited products required a new and innovative Mobile Processing Unit (MPU) design. This MPU required the ability to blend two solid raw materials (AN prill & sensitiser) along with two liquid ingredients (AN emulsion and process fuel). This MPU has been designed, manufactured and has used successfully to manufacture low density inhibited explosives. This paper presents an innovative shift in inhibited bulk products with specific reference to their manufacture and application.

"This paper describes some of the methods and equipment used for fine milling of minerals, and gives particular attention to the Vibro Energy system.In addition, the paper describes a specific application in the gold mining industry. This is the 200 tpd plant built by Anglo American Corporation at the President Brand Mine in South Africa in 1985, now a division of Freegold. This plant treats a gold bearing pyrite flotation concentrate which is finely ground to 15 microns prior to cyanidation and carbon-in-pulp (CIP). l .0 INTRODUCTIONFree milling gold ores are those that yield acceptable dissolution and recovery of the gold following grinding to what can be described as normal fineness, frequently between 50% and 90% passing 74 microns.Increasingly, gold metallurgists are faced with ores that are refractory. The traditiona1 treatment route for refractory gal d ores and concentrates has been by roasting, but for environmental reasons this is becoming less acceptable, or in some areas of the world, totally unacceptable. New methods of treating refractory gold ores are being developed and applied in practice. These new methods include pressure and biological oxidation. Higher gold liberation can also be attained by increasing the fineness of grind, although with conventional systems there are economic limits to this.In flowsheet development and test programs on new deposits, a standard procedure is to establish the relationship between the grind and subsequent go 1 d extraction. The normal situation is that gold extraction increases as the ore, or concentrate, is ground finer. Typically, this relationship is as shown in Fig. l, where the incremental additional extraction is very small once an optimum, or economic, grind has been achieved. This generally app1ies whether the material is free milling or refractory. The limits to grinding are set by the type of equipment which is commonly in use, usually ball mills. These mills have the obvious advantage of high capacity, however, they are increasingly inefficient as finer grinds are required. In general, ball mills are used to reduce ore to some agreed percentage passing 74, or possibly 53 microns."

Introduction The science of geometallurgy requires that ore characterization be performed holistically, that is, with consideration of ore quality on plant performance and product quality. Geometallurgy, by definition, requires knowledge of geology, mineralogy, extractive metallurgy and pyrometallurgy. Examples of the ore characterization challenges for the geometallurgist in the production of iron ore pellets from low-grade Proterozoic iron formation are presented here. Ore Characterization Ore characterization, the quantifying of mineralogy, grain size and the texture of ores, is an often overlooked tool in improving process efficiency. Some mineral related problems are not unique to the production of iron ore pellets; e.g. the problems caused by expanding clays in flotation. The negative impact of carbonate minerals in the ore on pellet productivity and pellet quality are unique. The long and complex geologic history of Precambrian iron formations contribute to modifications of grain size and the introduction of complex textures.

WMC was a late entrant into Indonesia in mid-1996, but had considerable experience and success in exploring in Asia, particularly the Philippines since 1988. Given the geological similarities to the Philippines and IndonesiaÆs superior æcradle to graveÆ Contract of Work (CoW) tenure system, the entry into Indonesia was a logical decision but nonetheless a result of detailed planning. At the time of WMCÆs entry, Busang in Kalimantan was still a 60 moz wonder and the euphoria of this apparent discovery had overflowed into every aspect of exploration. Many junior mining companies and tenement speculators were clamouring for properties in Kalimantan, whilst other serious and capable explorers had to compete for properties and exploration personnel in an era of high and often unrealistic expectations. The picture in late-1998 and through 1999 is dramatically different, as the worldwide downturn in the price of most metals coincides with financial and social crises throughout most Asian countries. The impact of this has been particularly severe in Indonesia and when coupled with the negative sentiment of the Busang fraud has resulted in an exodus of junior companies and also some of the majors. This is understandable given the much publicised social unrest, uncertainty of government, mooted changes to the eighth generation CoW, increasing illegal mining and heightened community expectations. The reality however is somewhat different and although clearly a crisis in many respects, it is also a time of great opportunity.

Extensive field study has been performed to assess the capabilities of thin sprayon liners (TSLs) and conventional spray-on support systems for preventing rock and support material damage that often results due to mining-induced rockbursts. Support performance was studied using field scale explosive detonation trials to simulate dynamic failure effects that are known to develop during typical rockburst events. Multiple seismic and high speed photographic monitoring techniques were used to provide detailed information concerning rock motion, surface fracturing, ejected fragment motion, and support liner survivability characteristics. Results of this study have demonstrated that TSL?s and variant layer combinations may be as effective as or better than conventional support materials for mitigating rockburst or like damage in highly stressed mine environments. In this study, field results have been verified using numerical modeling procedures to better understand the support behaviour of TSLs when subjected to highly stressed mine environments and mining-induced rockbursts, a factor that is essential when designing any rock support system. A series of numerical modeling assessments were conducted using FLAC3D modeling of a half circular TSL-lined tunnel, influenced by anisotropic stresses and simulated mining-induced rockbursts, to investigate the support potential of TSLs under prototype conditions. The effect of a mine rockburst was simulated using the three-dimensional dynamic analysis option of FLAC3D. Results of TSL-lined tunnels in highly stressed and mine rockburst conditions indicated exceptional effectiveness of TSLs for suppressing rock deterioration resulting from stresses and rockbursts. The rock support potential of TSLs on tunnel surfaces was compared with that of thin shotcrete linings, and results indicated that thin spray-on lining products currently available may be equally as effective in support as shotcrete materials.

Government established and financed the NZ Steel Investigating Co in 1960. Its investigations showed that a steel industry was feasible and desirable based uponNorth Island titanomagnetite ironsands, and charted a route for its establishment. The initial processing used post-1945 preheating and prereduction developments, but later innovative improvements created what was essentially a new New Zealand technology. Of the North Island titanomagnetite deposits: the small ones at Waipipi were best made available for export; those at Kawhia and Taharoa were too remote for the economic siting of a mill; that at Raglan proved too small; while at Waikato North Head three times the requirement of 50 million tons of concentrate were located in two sand areas averaging 18 per cent titanomagnetite. Economic studies showed that a South Auckland site would be ideal, close to New Zealand's biggest market. The mill site, on a basalt flow at Glenbrook, was located by a half-day's fieldwork - near both the Waikato North Head deposit, and a railhead for bringing in Waikato coal, etc, and taking out steel products.   This development was one of several since World War II which altered significantly the lives and homes of New Zealanders (others were natural gas, oil, geothermal power, epithermal gold, aluminium, opencastable lignite, etc). All had the essential ingredients of the highest government backing, direct or indirect government finance, and first-class New Zealand scientific and engineering skills (eg to create new technologies). Not one such project failed.

Even though a lot of work has been done in the past to establish phase equilibrium in the Cu-Si system a re cent investigation casts some doubt about the existence and crystal structure of some of the phases that form in the composition range of 15 to 25 at. pct Si in Cu. The present investigation was carried out using high temperature X-ray diffraction technique along with other standard techniques to study the phases in this composition range. The high temperature 6 phase appears to be tetragonal with parameters a,, = 8.815A, c, = 7.903A, and co/ao = 0.896. The reported bcc E phase exists at room temperature and at least up to 780°C and appears to undergo a transformation near 600°C. The phase appears to be cubic but not of the bcc type. The ? phase appears to undergo a transformation, as has been indicated by earlier investigators, and the low temperature form of .? phase is tetragonal with parameters a, = 7.267A, co = 7.8924, and co/ao = 1.086. THE Cu-Si binary system has been investigated by several investigators1" and several intermediate phases,?,e,?' at lower temperatures and ?,ß,0,e, and ? at higher temperatures, were observed between terminal solid solutions of copper and silicon. Even though the existence of the e phase and the transformation in the ? phase were reported in many early works, in a recent study of this system Nowotny and Bittner6 doubted the existence of the e phase and phase at 550°C. Among the high temperature phases, the 6 phase was reported to have a complex cubic structure with parameter a, = 8.805A.7 Nowotny and Bittner, however, suggested that the structure of the 6 phase might be of CsCl type. In order to check these contradictory reports the present study was taken up to investigate the Cu-Si binary system in the composition range of 17 to 25 at. pct Si. EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE Weighed amounts of copper (99.99 pct) and silicon (99.9 pct) were induction melted in recrystallized alumina crucibles under argon gas atmosphere. The alloys containing 17, 18, 20, 21, 21.2, 22, and 24 at. pct Si were annealed in evacuated and sealed quartz capsules at 700°C for 3 days and subsequently water quenched. Other than this annealing, the 21.2 at. pct Si and 24 at. pct Si alloys were annealed at 550°C for 10 days, the 17 at. pct Si alloy was annealed at 750°C for 3 days, and the 22 and 24 at. pct Si alloys were annealed at 780°C for 2 days. All annealing temperatures were controlled to within *l°C. Alloys after quenching were subjected to metallographic and X-ray diffraction investigation. A solution containing 5 g FeC13 + 10 cc HCl + 120 cc H2O diluted with six times its volume with water was used as etching reagent. A 114.6 mm diam Debye Scherrer camera was used for obtaining diffraction patterns. The 17, 21.2, and 24 at. pct Si alloys were subjected to high temperature diffractometry using a Tempress Research High temperature attachment and a GEXRD VI diffractometer. For the 6 phase (17 at. pct Si alloy) powder specimen from a 750°C annealed alloy was reheated to 750°C in the high temperature attachment for 1½ hr before taking a diffraction trace. A 550°C annealed and slowly cooled phase (24 at. pct Si) alloy was first reheated to 550°C. a diffraction trace was made after annealing it for 2 hr, and subsequently it was heated to 716OC and kept at this temperature for 2 hr before taking a diffraction trace. For the e phase (21.2 at. pct Si alloy) a 550°C annealed and slowly cooled specimen was heated first to 425°C and annealed at this temperature for 2 hr before taking a diffraction trace. Subsequently, the specimen temperature was raised to 495", 540°, 603", 635", 682", 720°, and 748°C and homogenized at each temperature for 1 hr before taking diffraction traces. The powder specimen temperature was controlled to within +2oC at each temperature and argon gas, purified by passing it at slow rate through a fused CaC12 column, hot (800°C) copper and titanium chips and finally through a P2O5 column, was used to prevent oxidation of the powder. For all X-ray work copper-radiations at 25 kv, 15 ma (for Debye Scherrer technique), and 40 kv, 20 ma (for diffractometer tech-nique) were used. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION At 700°C the alloys containing 17 to 21 at. pct Si showed two phases while the 21.2 at. pct Si alloy was found to be single phase. The X-ray diffraction patterns of the two-phase alloys were consistent with the phase (ßP-Mn type structure) and the phase (21.2 at. pct Si) patterns. The diffraction patterns of the 17 at. pct Si alloy quenched from 750" and 700°C were identical. According to the accepted Cu-Si phase dia-gram4,5,10 the 17 at. pct Si alloy at 750°C should be in the (k + 6) two-phase region and very close to the -phase boundary. The most serious safety problems encountered in U. S. underground coal mines today are related to the roof bolting operation. Also, roof bolting is usually the operation which limits coal production of the section. The purpose of my paper is to review some of the research, developments, and new ideas related to roof bolting. Many of these ideas have originated at. coal mines or with manufacturers. Most of the research on fundamental improvements has been funded by, and is a part of, the excellent and broad plans of the Bureau of Mines.

Anglo Coal South Africa mines coal for both the domestic and export market using open cast and strip mining methods. To establish a mine, a process is set in place to gather ever increasing amounts of geological and metallurgical data to confirm a proven reserve. Increasingly, geotechnical data are also included in this process to confirm that reserve is easily and safely mineable. The mine design process is an iterative one using a combination of numerical modelling and empirical data to arrive at a mining layout that is both, practical, productive and safe. In South Africa it is a legal requirement to compile a code of practice to combat rock fall and slope instability accidents and these have to be revised annually, reinforcing the iterative process of continual improvement. To ensure best practise occurs, all Anglo Coal operations are subjected to annual 2nd party audits and ad hoc 3rd party audit by independent consultants. This paper attempts to explain the process described above in a concise, but understandable manner. 1.0 GEOLOGICAL SETTING The Ecca sediments date from the Permian period and the coal deposits were formed in glaciated valleys on a basement of Dolomite, Ryolite or Granophyre rock types. The sediments overlying the coal deposits are typically flat lying and multiple bedded. The sediments consist of mudstones, shales and sandstones and are generally capable of forming stable highwalls given the time that they must stand up for. Anglo Coal extracts coal from the Witbank, Highveld and Vereeniging coalfields. The Witbank coalfields contain five seams numbered from the base upwards, 1 to 5 Seam; Highveld coalfield the 2 and 4 Seam and the Vereening area the seams are described as Top, Middle and Bottom seams. Coal deposited over the basement Dolomite formation display very erratic dips, as contemporaneous subsidence occurred in some instances over sinkholes that were forming, resulting in local thickening of the coal deposit and resulting in strata that dips toward the centre of the sinkhole.

After Abe Lee discovered gold (in April 1860) near the site of present-day Leadville, Colorado, he and is group staked nearly all of California Gulch with "speculative claims." They did so in an effort to grab any property that might be potentially profitable. But the plan did not work. New prospectors demanded a miners' meeting, from which arose the official "Bylaws of California Mining District, California Gulch, Arkansas River." These bylaws, adopted on May 12, 1860, established provisions as to the number, size and type of claims that could be filed. Fair laws invited more newcomers. By mid-summer, 5,000 people with tents and wagons were scattered from one end of the gulch to the other.Among the earliest arrivals to the region that spring were Horace Austin Warner Tabor and his wife, Augusta. H.A.W. Tabor, who was to become a pillar in the development of Leadville, arrived at California Gulch during a food shortage. He sacrificed his oxen so that hungry miners could eat. By doing so, he immediately became the friend of many. Augusta established a little store where she sold her baked goods and provided meals. Like most of the men, Horace prospected the surrounding hills. He only did so, however, for a short time. California Gulch yielded more than $5 million in gold during the next five years. By 1866, however, the placer gold was gone and most of the miners had packed up and left. Charles J. Mullen and Cooper Smith, who were grubstaked by a Philadelphian named J. Marshall Paul, found a new, rich lode at the Printer Boy Mine in 1868. It was the first underground gold mine in the Leadville area and marked the transition from surface mining to underground hard rock mining. Its discovery created a new but modest flurry of activity. Heavy black sand covered the region and made gold mining difficult. In 1875 William Stevens and Alvinus Wood decided to have the sand assayed. They discovered that it contained 15 ounces per ton of silver and was rich in carbonate. Stevens and Wood kept their find a secret for nearly two years. When the word spread in late 1877, the silver boom was on. In 1878 prospectors, merchants and others trickled into town from all directions. Dr. David H. Dougan closed his office. in Alma, crossed Mosquito Pass and set up shop in Leadville. Nobody seemed to need a doctor, however, and Dougan sat in his office for 28 days without a customer. On the 29th day he received word that there had been a mining accident and he was needed immediately. -That was the begin¬ning of his illustrious career in Leadville. Dougan was a successful physician, became mayor in 1881 and was later president of the Carbonate National Bank. Leadville was a simple community of log structures in 1878. By June of the following year, however, it had blossomed considerably. According to Cass Carpenter, as of May 1,1879, Leadville had "...19 hotels, 41 lodging houses, 82 drinking saloons, 38 restaurants, 13 wholesale liquor houses, 10 lumber yards, 7 smelting and reduction works, 2 sampling works for testing ores, 12 blacksmith shops, 6 livery stables, 6 jewelry stores, 3 undertakers and 21 gambling houses where all sorts of games are played as openly as the Sunday School sermon is conducted." Additionally, there were 36 brothels. When George E. King and other architects arrived, Leadville took on an air of elegance and sophistication. In sharp contrast to some of the Victorian-style, gingerbread-laced homes in Leadville, its suburbs were comprised of many tenement shacks and plain cabins mixed with a few commercial buildings, many mines and smelters. Mines sprinkled the area east of Leadville like pepper from a pepper shaker. Wherever there was a cluster of mines, a camp usually sprang up. Most were very close together. South of Leadville the giant Arkansas Valley lead smelter sprawled out between Stringtown and Bucktown in an area known as Smelter Valley. Founded in 1879 as the Billing and Eilers Smelter, the Arkansas Valley plant was operated by the American Smelting and Refining Company. Several other smelters operated in the vicin¬ity. In April 1878, Horace Tabor grubstaked prospectors August Rische and George Hook. For $64 worth of supplies and tools, he was guaranteed a one-third interest in their findings. Rische and Hook discovered the Little Pittsburg (often spelled Pittsburgh) Mine and made Tabor an instant millionaire. Tabor once purchased a "salted" mine, the Chrysolite; but instead of considering it a bad deal, he further developed the property and struck rich silver ore. Later, Tabor purchased the Matchless Mine for $117,000, possibly the only investment he made without partners. During its peak years, the Matchless yielded $1 million worth

Amodified load transfer method computing the displacement, axial compression, skin resistance, toe resistance, and other static bearing behaviours of piles, is propoesd in this paper. Through deriving a new concrete computational method with simple integration, many complex factors, such as different soil properties of each layer in layered soil, variation of soil parameters with the changes of the depth, different elastic moduli of piles under different loads, and even different areas in the same pile, can all be easily considered. This method fits in with many types of piles, including friction and point bearing piles, precast and cast-in-situ piles. Observation of static loading test on pile is given, and the computed values from the modified load transfer method are found to agree with practical measured results.
