Material balance relationships for expansion-type reservoirs above the bubble point have been discussed in recent years by H. N. Hall and M. F. Hawkins, Jr. The former drew attention to the effects of rock compressibility, and the latter to the effects of the compressibility of any interstitial water. Hawkins derived a general relationship which took note of oil, water and rock compressibilities, and then by assuming first, the absence of interstitial water and secondly, no effects due to interstitial water or rock compressibility, obtained relationships symbolically of the same form as those previously derived directly by Hall. Hawkins defined his terms clearly, and noted an approximation, due to the omission of a term involving the product of two compressibilities, made in reaching his final equation. There is, however, possible ambiguity with regard to Hall's written definition of the oil production term. One interpretation would mean that the produced oil and initial oil-in-place, if both required as stock tank barrels, would be obtained by using different formation volume factors in the conversion in order to satisfy the conditions implicit in Hall's formulae. The other would involve an approximation which, if used, was not stated. In both Hall's and Hawkins' studies the effect of the approximation or inconsistency is very slight. Nevertheless, it may be justifiable to give a somewhat more consistent derivation, since the complexity of the final relationships is not thereby greatly increased. Let the initial pore volume be Vi and the volume after a pressure drop of Ap, V. Then V = V, (1 - ?p . cr), where c, is the rock compressibility expressed as change in pore volume/unit pore volume/unit pressure change, and is defined with the initial pressure as base. Suppose that the interstitial water saturation under the initial conditions is Sw. The total volume of interstitial water under those conditions will be ViSw. If the volume of the water after dropping the pressure by ?p is V., this will be given by Vw = ViSw (1 + ?p.c,w), the compressibility of the water being c, which is ex- pressed using the volume at the initial pressure as base. If Boi is the reservoir volume factor of the crude oil for the initial reservoir conditions, and B. the equivalent factor when the pressure has dropped by ?p, with N the initial amount of oil expressed as stock tank barrels. N.Boi = Vi - V,Sw If n is the amount of oil produced (in terms of stock tank barrels) as a result of the pressure drop ?p, the remaining subsurface volume of oil at the lower pressure will be Bw, and Bc can be related to the compressibi:ity of oil and the pressure drop, and if c, is the compressibility factor based on the initial conditions, The relationship derived by Hawkins was case to a standard at the lower pressure, while a term (Ap) had been dropped, because of its smallness arising from its dependence on the products of two compressibility factors. The industrial importance of the sillimanite group of minerals depends upon the beneficial properties exhibited by porcelains and refractories in which substantial amounts of these minerals are utilized as raw materials. The presence of "sillimanite" (now known to be the closely related mineral, mullite) in conventional porcelains and refractories has been known since before the turn of the century. As early as 1906 German investigators observed a direct correlation between the "sillimanite" content of a porcelain and its electrical and mechanical properties. Acting upon this discovery, U. S. Bureau of Standards investigators during World War I developed improved pyrometer tubes and spark plug porcelains, by increasing substantially the amount of "sillimanite" at the expense of quartz. The success of these experiments, first reported in 1918, at once aroused a lively interest in the location of natural sources of sillimanite and its related minerals. As a result of diligent search, the large andalusite deposits in California were discovered in 1919. Within the next several years large deposits of kyanite and sillimanite in India and kyanite in the United States had been reported. The search for these minerals in quantity, by both private and governmental agencies, has continued unabated during the ensuing forty years. A number of domestic deposits of kyanite have been worked during the past 30 years. Of these, only the Virginian and South Carolinian deposits are currently in substantial production. The only commercial andalusite production in the United States has been in California and Nevada. A dumortierite deposit in Nevada, known since 1917 but ignored for want of a commercial use, began production in 1925. A topaz occurrence in South Carolina has yielded a small production since about 1940. Domestic production of andalusite, dumortierite and topaz had virtually ceased by 1950. There has never been any commercial development of domestic sillimanite deposits. Kyanite has been mined almost continuously in India since about 1922. The remoteness of the large deposits of Indian sillimanite had caused it to be neglected until 1949. In that year sillimanite production began, and it has continued to the present. South African andalusite has been marketed from the 1930's until the present time. From 1944 to 1955 Kenya, British East Africa, was an important producer of kyanite. Commercial deposits of kyanite in Ontario, Canada should soon be in production. The first production of kyanite in Europe began in Austria in 1953. No commercial deposits of mullite are known anywhere in the world. It is of interest to note that synthetic mullite, which as "sillimanite" first elicited interest in the A12O3-rich aluminosilicate refractories, has enjoyed a marked increase in production in recent years. This is a result of the gradual depletion of known deposits of high-quality kyanite and related minerals."' Composition The sillimanite group includes kyanite, andalusite, and sillimanite, all having the same chemical composition (A12O3•SiO2) but different physical properties. The tin deposit of Monserrat, Bolivia, consists of one major vein 1600 m in length. The ore is unusual because of the notable quantity of teallite, even though cassiterite is the principal tin mineral. The deposit, formed at shallow depth under a wide range in temperature, may be classed as xenothermal. Polished sections reveal a complex history of replacement, with low-temperature minerals deposited before high-temperature minerals. THE Monserrat mine1'2 of the Compania Minera Monserrat is located 11 km east of Callipampa, a station on the Antofagasta and Bolivia Railway some 55 km south of Oruro. The mine lies in a group of low hills on the east slope of a broad valley of northerly trend. The valley is separated from the altiplano to the west by a prominent ridge that rises several hundred meters above the surrounding country (fig. 1). Callipampa is situated a short distance west of the ridge, near the east margin of the altiplano. The elevation at Callipampa is 3700 m and at the mine 4100 m. Monserrat is near the northeast limit of what may be called the Poopo-Pazna district, an area of northwesterly trend about 25 km in length and 15 km in width. The district includes the tin-silver prospects of Poopo to the north, the zinc-tin deposits of Salvador to the southwest, and the tin-tourmaline veins of Avicaya to the south. Along the prominent ridge already mentioned, which forms the western limit of the district, there are several tin and antimony prospects including the Trinacria mine, which is famous for its fine specimens of cylindrite. Although the principal ore mineral is cassiterite, the tin deposit of Monserrat contains an unusual amount of teallite. Cassiterite occurs in part as a finely granular mixture with sulphides of iron and zinc and in part as needle tin of late hypogene age. The regional structure is dominated by broad folds typical of the Andes of Central Bolivia and similar to those of the Llallagua district. The area adjacent to the Monserrat mine is underlain by thin-bedded shale somewhat variable in color but predominantly dark grey to black. The beds strike northwest and dip at low angles southwest, forming part of the northeast limb of a major syncline. A resistant sandstone formation, which underlies the black shale, crops out along a ridge east of the mine and also accounts for the high ridge to the west that was previously mentioned. No igneous rock of any kind is found at Monserrat. The nearest intrusive bodies known are the irregular dikes and masses of quartz porphyry at Avicaya about 10 km to the south. Mine Workings The Monserrat property includes one main vein, which can be followed on the surface for 1600 m, and two or three branch veins of distinctly minor importance. IN the geophysical exploration program of the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Co. on the Marquette Range of Northern Michigan, the vertical intensity magnetometer has been used to obtain magnetic anomaly maps of large areas. A network of magnetic base stations has been established and the relative vertical intensity at each station measured carefully with respect to a prime base. In the search for the relatively nonmagnetic soft red hematite ore, the magnetic exploration is indirect, involving the study of dikes, faults, contacts, and other structural features. It was found that the, magnetometer, adjusted to a scale value of approximately 40 y per scale division, was satisfactory for this type of exploration, although many magnetic anomalies were encountered that required the use of auxiliary magnets.

FOR many years gravitational classification has been employed as a basic tool in beneficiation of minerals and coal. While improvements have been made to increase efficiency and fields of application, the basic flow pattern has remained relatively unchanged in most gravitational classifiers. Feed slurry is introduced into a settling pool wherein the coarser solids settle against either an upward or horizontal fluid current, or a combination of both, and are withdrawn in a concentrated underflow stream. The finer solids below the classification point possess too low a settling velocity and thus are primarily swept out through a weir overflow by the bulk of the fluid. Because of its simplicity, efficiency, and low power and maintenance costs, gravitational classification finds a wide acceptance for separations in the range of 20 to 325 mesh.

During 1943 and 1944, there was an urgent need for certain grades of optical calcite (Iceland spar) for instruments for ' military uses. To find a supply of this material, prospecting was carried out in Montana, California and Colorado. Although some production was obtained by the work in California, the best results were from prospecting the large calcite veins of south central Montana. The bulk of the optical calcite mind during World War II has come from that area. The Bureau of Mines took an active part in the search for optical calcite in Montana. It examined most of the known calcite veins in the 70-mile distance between Wilsall, on the Shields River: and Absarokee, on the Still water River, and conducted exploration on several of the deposits. The Geological Survey also took an active part by mapping many of the veins. Actual mining of the calcite was performed at first by Calcite Operators, Inc., and later by the Metals Reserve Co., through an agent. A sorting plant was established at Clyde Park, where custom material could be sold. These activities stimulated mining by private operators. To be suitable for military uses, the calcite mined had to meet rigid specificstions as to both size and quality. Individual crystals had to be clear and transparent and if in the form of rhombs had to measure at least 7/8 in. on each edge. Some color and a few inclusions in the calcite were allowable, but material with incipient or developed cleavages, or showing twinning other than parallel to the base, was unacceptable. History of Deposits The existence of large veins of calcite in south central Montana has long been known, and for many years the farmers of this region have used the common vein calcite for producing grit for chicken feed. According to reports, the fist optical calcite produced from Montana came from the Cartwright deposit near Grey-cliff,' but until recently the mining of optical calcite in Montana has been limited to spasmodic searching for small crystals suitable for making nicol prisms for saccharimeters and microscopes, or for mineral specimens. The possible need of substantial amounts of optical calcite for military uses began to appear late in 1942 and early in 1943, therefore the Polaroid company began searching for a source of supply in Montana and California. Work on the Wade property near Clyde Park was started on a small scale in the fall of 1942, by .4. H. Hansen, of Clyde Park. During the winter and spring of 1943, a modest quantity of optical calcite was mined and shipped to the Polaroid Corporation, Cambridge, Mass. Most of this was produced from the "Hansen vug," which was found close to the surface. B. R. Coil (Electrical Installations at the Miami Mine are Cheaper with Flexible Cable, P. 356) was born in Higginsville, Mo., and attended McKinley High School and Missouri School of Mines. He received a B.S. in mining engineering. Mr. Coil has worked for the Braden Copper Co., Rancagua, Chile as junior engineer and foreman. He was employed by Miami Copper Co. as a jigger boss, shift boss, development engineer and mine foreman. He worked as mine superintendent and general superintendent of the Castle Dome Copper Company, Inc. Mr. Coil may be reached at Box 100, Miami, Ariz. He is an AIME Member. Mr. C. R. Ross was co-author with Mr. Coil in the preparation of this paper. His paper covers the present installation of electrical equipment in block caving stopes along with background data. In this paper he has given one solution to wiring problems in heavy stopes.

BY the courtesy of Mr. Charles W. Jenks, of Boston, one of the owners of this interesting mine, I am enabled to lay before the Institute a suite of specimens, illustrating its peculiar formation and the paragenesis of mineral species which it presents; and a recent brief visit and rapid reconnoissance of the locality permit me to supplement this exhibition with a general description, based upon personal observation. The mine is situated upon the Culsagee Fork of the Tennessee River, in Macon County, North Carolina, a few miles from Franklin. The most practicable route by which it can at present be visited is by wagon (or preferably on horseback) from Seneca City, S. C., a station on the Charlotte and Atlanta Air Line Railroad. The itinerary is as follows: to Walhalla,* nine miles; Walhalla to Highlands, twenty-nine miles; Highlands to the Culsagee, fourteen miles. By passing the night at or near Highlands, the mine can be reached and examined and the return to Highlands made on the second day; and the round trip, if performed in the saddle, can be completed in three days from Seneca City. It is not easy, with due regard to steed and rider, to do it in less time. The rough and precipitous mountain roads do not permit rapid travel ; and the journey is at best a fatiguing one. But its slight hardships are overpaid by the stimulating effect of the climate and the great beauty of the scenery, both of which are destined to become more widely known than at present, to seekers for health and pleasure. Indeed the town of Highlands, already named, is almost entirely made up of northern immigrants, attracted by these advantages and by the inducement of cheap land for agriculture and stock-raising. The Culsagee or Sugartown fork of the Tennessee traverses the belt of ancient crystalline schists on the west flank of the Blue Ridge. This belt abounds in valuable minerals. Among those of the nonmetallic class may be mentioned graphite, soapstone, serpentine, ashes- * A branch or cross railroad is in operation as far as Walhalla ; but the single daily train runs at an hour not convenient for this expedition ; and Seneca City is probably the best starting-point. At all events, I obtained there an excellent mount for the trip.

THE Magma copper vein trends east-west, dips 70° south, and cuts through a 6000-ft thickness of limestones, quartzites, shale, diabase, and schist. The vein is itself a fault with -a horizontal offset of 500 ft on the formation contacts in the two walls. There are two principal faults of large displacement and numerous smaller steep and flat faults that complicate the prediction of ore occurrence. A study of the geology, its systematic recording to facilitate ready reference, and graphic methods of interpretation of mineralization have aided the exploration, development, and mining of the ore. In making predictions of the distribution of mineable ore bodies and their shape in critical areas, studies are made of "mineralization contours" and "mineralization trends," which are developed on a longitudinal section of the vein from variations in the concentration of the combined base metal content as shown by assays of available openings in the mine.

THIS paper describes the use of the magnetometer, under geological direction, in exploration of the Sudbury nickel district. The writer's experience at Falconbridge has led him to the belief that only through detailed work, and by careful correlation of both geological and geophysical results, can geophysical prospecting methods be applied successfully to mining exploration problems. It is hoped that the basic technique described in the paper will be found to have general application.

R. U. Jackson (Conveyor vs. Track Haulage, P. 866) is the author of a previous work on conveyor systems, which was presented at the Annual Meeting of the Arizona Section of the AIME in December 1951. He has worked for the Carnegie Steel Co., Koppers Co., Fairmont Mining Machinery Co., and the Hewitt-Robins, Inc., the Robins Conveyor Div., for the past 30 years, as engineer, district manager, and manager of the mining div. Jackson is a graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology, and was born in Steelton; Pa. His present residence is in Clifton, N. J., where in his spare time he devotes himself to hiking and photography interests. F. S. White (Co-author, Solids Fluidization Applied to Lime Burning, P. 903) is a Washington University, St. Louis, Graduate, who now lives in Stockbridge, Mass. He served as a technical apprentice at Mobile, Ala., for the Aluminum Ore Co., and after four years went to Bauxite, Ark, as technical superintendent of calcination and precipitation. After a year and a half, he became technical and operating superintendent of the sintering plant. White also worked for the Dorr Co., and is now with the New England Lime Co. serving as assistant to the president. For relaxation he collects stamps and plays the piano.

The iron ore province of Quebec and Baffin Island trends from the southern shore of Baffin Island northeasterly through the Labrador Trough to Matonipi Lake, approximately 185 miles northwest of Seven Islands, but future geologic field studies will very likely extend the limits of the province to include the ferruginous and associated rocks of the Lake Mistassini area. Recent improvements in the beneficiation of low-grade iron ore have stimulated widespread exploration for deposits amenable to concentration, particularly along the southwest extension of the Trough. GENERAL LITHOLOGY Pleistocene and recent deposits of clay, sand, gravel and erratic boulders cover roughly 60% of the land surface. All of the bedrock is of Precambrian age (Table I). Paragneisses and paraschists together with metasedimentary iron-formation, marble and quartzite are abundant and, for the most part, appear to be metamorphic equivalents of the relatively unmetamorphosed rocks of the Labrador Trough to the north beyond the "Grenville Front." Bodies of amphibolite are widely scattered. A large portion of the metamorphic rock shows some degree of permeation by granite material as well as alteration by hydrothermal solutions. The youngest bedrock consists of a complex containing slightly altered ultramafic to monozonitic intrusives.

In the fall of 1969, ASARCO and Newmont Mining Co. began the design of the 700tpd concentrator at their Black Cloud shaft located near Leadville, Colo. The concentractor would treat by flotation a Pb-Zn-Ag ore containing minor gold values. Flowsheet design was based on laboratory test work performed at the Minerals Research Testing Laboratory of ASARCO. Since the concentrator is located at an elevation of 11,000 ft, cold weather was a major factor in design considerations. The original capacity was designed as 700 tpd but for various reasons an ultimate capacity of 1,000 tpd was desired. This necessitated special consideration in the design of several areas, particularly the grinding circuit. The grinding circuit chosen was a single 9 X 12 ball mill operating in closed circuit with one 20-in. cyclone. The ball mill will operate at low speed and as an overflow type originally. The mill can be speeded up and converted to grate type for handling the larger tonnage when required. Thickeners and filters were oversized and space was left for additional flotation cells in order to handle the increased tonnage in these areas. Pumps were sized so that they could handle the increased tonnage by increasing their speed. Construction began in May 1970; the Black Cloud concentrator went on-stream in April 1791.

Horner1 and van Everdingen8 ave shown that the pressure drop within the wellbore, as a result of having produced the well at a constant rate q for time t, where t is sufficiently large, is: van Everdingen observed that better agreement between theory and well performance can be obtained if, instead of assuming the permeability is kc everywhere about the well, it is assumed the permeability near the well-bore is substantially reduced as a result of drilling, completion and/or production practices. In order to account for the additional pressure drop he introduced the dimensionless quantity S, the skin effect factor, so that Eq. 1 becomes: Eq. 2 might have also been obtained as follows. Assume a zone of altered permeability k, exists about the well out to a radius r and beyond that the unaltered, external permeability k. The additional pressure drop required to overcome this skin of reduced permeability may be calculated with sufficient accuracy using the incompressible flow equation; for Browns-combe and Collins1 have shown almost no difference between compressible and incompressible steady-state flow, in the vicinity of the wellbore, and the small volume of fluid in the vicinity of the wellbore makes unsteady-state mechanics unnecessary. Then. The sign of this skin pressure drop will be positive or negative depending upon whether the altered permeability k, is smaller or larger, respectively, than the external permeability k... The oxidation of Cu2S in oxygen and the sulfating of Cu2O in oxygen-sulfur dioxide atmospheres was carried out under a variety of conditions. The oxidation of Cu2S was found to be retarded by entrapment of SO, and O2, which stabilized internal sulfates for long periods of time. The course of the reaction was followed by measuring weight changes and also by SO, evolution. Sulfating of Cu2O was a maximum at ratios of SO, to O2 approximating maximum SO, production. At elevated temperatures SO, was found to increase the rate of oxidation of Cu2 O to CuO even though sulfates did not form. All sulfating reactions followed the parabolic rate law indicating diffusion. MANY studies of the roasting of copper sulfides have been reported in recent years. Diev et al.1 investigated the roasting of chalcocite (Cu2S) in air, and oxygen enriched air. Lewis et al.2 also studied the oxidation of natural and synthetic chalcocite in air and oxygen atmospheres and their studies indicated that the maximum formation of water soluble sulfates occurred at approximately 450oC. Ashcroft3 reported that oxide production during the roasting of chalcocite resulted only from secondary decomposition of sulfates which were formed as primary products. peretti4 refuted this claim by showing that a layer of Cu2O appeared directly adjacent to the Cu2S during roasting of cylindrical briquettes of cupric sulfide, CuS. The linear advance of the Cu2S-Cu2O interface was used as a measure of the kinetics of the roasting reaction. The reactions proposed were: 2 CuS—Cu2S + 1/2 S2 [4-1] 1/2 S2 + O24 SO2 [4-2] cuzs +3/2 O2 4 Cu2O + SO2 [4-3] cu2o + 1/2 O2—2 cuo [4-4] At temperatures above 663oC, CuO was the only final solid phase reported. Below 663" C increasing amounts of sulfate were found mixed with the CuO. McCabe and Morgan5 investigated the roasting of discs of synthetic chalcocite and reported the following sequence of products beginning at the sulfide surface: Cu2O, a mixture of Cu2O and CuSO4, Cum,, CuO . CuSO4, and CuO. The principal reactions were reported to be: Cu2S + 3/2 O2-Cu2O + SO2 [5-1] CU2O + 2 SO2 + 3/2 O2—2 CUSO4 [5-21 2 CUSO4— CUO . cum, + SO3 [ 5-31 cuo . cuso4—-2 cuo + SO, [ 5-41 Eq.15-11 supports the claim of Peretti, Eq. [4-31, that CuzO is formed directly from Cu2S rather than as a secondary product from a sulfate as suggested by Ashcroft. On the other hand CuO was found to form as a secondary product from the decomposition of copper sulfate and basic copper sulfate, Eqs. [5-31 and [5-41. The formation of sulfates was explained by McCabe and morgan5 to be a direct reaction of Cu2O with 0, and SO, or SO, at distinct regions in which the partial pressures of each were such as to form the sulfate. Thornhill and pidgeon6 roasted both natural and synthetic chalcocite grains in air at temperatures between 420" and 550° C. They found a dense primary oxidation layer in contact with the sulfide. A secondary layer of porous oxidation products was found to expand with roasting time. The oxide products were leached away and the remaining core was studied by X-ray diffraction. The X-ray patterns showed an increased conversion of chalcocite to digenite with time. Digenite,7 a defect structure of cuprous sulfide, occurs naturally as Cu,-,S where x = 0.12 to 0.45, with an average analysis of Cu, ,S. The mechanism of digenite formation was proposed as: Cu2S + oxygen—Cu1-8S + 0.1 Cu2O [6-1] Cuj.eS + oxygen—0.9 Cu2S + SO2 [6-2] It is apparent from the above studies that the oxidation of Cu2S, ultimately ending in CuO, may be divided into ihree general stages (all of which may occur simultaneously): 1) primary oxidation to Cu2O; 2) secondary sulfate formation; and 3) sulfate decomposition. Consequently reactions of O2 and SO, with Cu20 constitute important aspects of the roasting of chalcocite. Virtually no studies have been made regarding sulfating reactions involving Cu,O. Mills and Evans8 noted the effect of sulfur dioxide on the oxidation of copper at low temperatures and low SO, partial pressures. They reported a measurable increase in the oxidation rate of copper when SO2, was present. As this meeting terminates the year's agreement under which the Engineering Foundation has appropriated its income to the National Research Council, a brief summary of what has been accomplished seems called for. The Research Council was organized Sept. 19, 1916. The Executive Committee was appointed at that meeting; since that date two other meetings of the Council have been held, one in Boston, on Nov. 13 and 14, the other in Washington on April 19. During the intervals between the meetings of the Research Council, the Executive Committee has conducted all of the business of the Council. There have been 29 meetings of the Executive Committee, 13 in New York up to the first of May, 15 in Washington subsequently, and one in Boston. The meetings in New York were devoted to the organization of the Research Council and especially to appointment of committees. At the outset, the Council had no very clear idea of the way in which it was to organize; there were several other groups of scientific men at work, among them, the Research Committee of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Engineering Committee of the Advisory Commission to the Council of National Defense. Time was spent in straightening out these two principal complications, both of which were satisfactorily adjusted. The upshot of these negotiations is to leave the Research Council as the only representative, national body of research men, assisting the Government. During the period up to May, the Executive Committee in New York selected carefully the personnel of some 25 principal committees, and of a large number of sub-committees; so carefully were these chosen that of the entire number, several hundred, there have been only one or two declinations. Some of the important steps in the development of the Research Council are the establishment of the Military Section, composed. of the members of the Council connected with the Government and resident in Washington. This Section put the Research Council into close contact with the most important officials of the Army and Navy. From it has grown the Washington office of the Council, and the recognition of the Research Council as the "Department of Science and Research of the Council of National Defense; " and the establishment of the Washington office after the Council of National Defense had officially recognized the Research Council. About this time Dr. Hale, Chairman of the Council, appointed Dr. Millikan to be Vice-Chairman to represent the Council in Washington, and Dr. Millikan has since then been in charge of the work of the Council. At the request of the Secretary, Dr. Millikan has prepared a brief report of some of the work of the Research Council during its first year, which is appended to this report. It shows that the Research Council has been active in much of the important work. under way in our preparations for war, and that it has rendered effective services to the Government.

During the last fifteen years the progress made in the science of lithology has been of a very marked character. From being a miscellaneous collection of facts and observations regarding certain mineral aggregates seemingly incapable of systematic arrangement, it has become a most interesting and orderly department of science. The investigators who have brought about this great change have recorded the results of their labors, and placed at our service an extensive and varied literature on the subject. To this I have paid some attention, and partly from studying it,, partly from my own observations, I have wrought out a classification of original or crystalline rocks, which I venture to bring under the notice of the members of this Institute. The practical importance of the subject will be acknowledged when it is considered that rock species are not without their influence on the contents of the mineral veins which intersect them. Besides, the Institute has been doing good service in defining terms in metallurgy, and no doubt in mining and geology we might
