"The Cyprus Anvil Mining Corporation established a lead-zinc mine and concentrating plant at Faro in Yukon Territory in 1969. Following some 12 years of continuous operation from a single pit adjacent to the concentrator, the company decided to expand operations into two additional areas on the Vangorda Plateau. The two new deposits, known as Grum and Vangorda, are located some 15 kilometres from the existing concentrator.Confirmation of mining feasibility was followed by determination of the most practical and economical method of transporting the raw ore from the new mine sites to the existing concentrator. This analysis was carried out in two phases. The first phase reviewed the feasibility of alternative transportation systems on an 'order-of-magnitude' cost basis. This work identified systems worthy of more detailed examination. The second phase examined the preferred alternatives in greater detail.Initially, operating principles and parameters were established and catalogued. Then, based on these criteria, complete systems were developed utilizing alternative modes of transportation . In the overview analysis, some transportation modes were judged impractical and discarded, 'order-o f-magnitude' costs were developed for other systems and the most costly were eliminated . In the detailed study, the favourable systems were examined in depth which required development of accurate capital and operating costs, consideration of environ- mental impacts and an assessment of intangibles associated with the operation of a new development."

"LYNN LAKE, in northern Manitoba, has become Canada's second nickel-producing area. The discovery by Sherritt Gordon Mines of nickel ore in an entirely new district was the result of systematic prospecting of a belt of volcanics and sediments situated 100 to 150 miles north of the Company's former copper-zinc mine at Sherridon, Manitoba.Prospecting in this area was begun in 1937 and continued each year until 1941, when Austin McVeigh, a company prospector, found a patch of sulphides on a gabbro outcrop near a small lake named Lynn Lake. Samples from this sulphide indicated nickel and copper in significant amount. In 1943, magnetometer work disclosed a number of weak anomalies in low ground near the discovery. In 1945, staking was followed by geophysical surveys and diamond drilling, which continued through 1947. During this period the A, B, E, EL, and Corebodies were located and partly outlined. The discovery of the high-grade ""EL"" orebody in January 1947 was the turning point in the estabishment of the mine. Subsequent development, including additional exploration on surface and under-ground, evolution of a new metallurgical process, financing, erection of a mining and milling plant, hydro-electric power development, building of a rail line from Sherridon (by Canadian National Railways) and a refinery at Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, culminated in August 1954, when the first shipment of nickel left the refinery. This paper, presented at the 1955 Annual General Meeting of the C.l.M. in Toronto, was one of a symposium covering the whole operation."

"For many years the training of mill operators was an informal process which involved senior operators training junior operators on an as-needed basis. Recognizing the needs and benefits of better training some companies, and even some provinces through legislation, have moved to ensure that a formalized training program exists in the plants. These programs tend to focus on basic safety and operations. Much remains to be done. With the more rapid incorporation of new processing and information technologies, and the goal to keep labour costs to a minimum by doing more with less, operator training has become a critical issue. This paper briefly examines the evolution of training programs, provides some measure of their effectiveness, and explores some recent developments which could have a very significant impact on the industry.PreambleOne can draw an analogy between operator training and the mechanical support of production equipment. When we buy a piece of process equipment it is critical that the mechanical installation be done properly to ensure that the device will operate at peak performance on start-up. Once the equipment is running, some form of preventive maintenance is required to ensure continued efficient operation. The operators and the equipment are both elements of the processing system, yet the former do not seem to get the same ""start-up"" or ""operating"" support. Are they not seen as critical to efficient operation? Why is this so? What impact does it have? How can we improve?These are all very logical and important questions, although the answers are not nearly so obvious. In the mineral processing industry, progress in operator training over the past thirty years has been limited and quite variable. To address the perceived need for a more coherent and consistent approach, some provinces have moved to incorporate basic training requirements in their legislation. Some plants have gone a few steps further by building integrated training programs into their operating culture. One conclusion which can be easily reached is that there are no standards, and that the range of training activity is great. In other words, a flotation operator is not a flotation operator is not a flotation operator. Their knowledge and skills are very much a function of training and experience, which are clearly corporate and site specific."

The most widespread methods for producing metallic copper are smelting of copper sulphide concentrates (which generates various types of polluting substances) and the hydrometallurgical route which consists of leaching in sulphate and chloride media (usually employing high temperature, high-pressure and special equipments). This paper presents a process, called VEPE, which consists of oxidizing copper sulphide concentrates in weak alkaline media (Na2C03 orland NaOH solutions), under low pressure and with air sparging. The oxidized concentrate contains less than 0.4% S. Copper is recovered from the oxidized concentrate by the standard leaching-solvent extraction-electrowinning route, with a total efficiency of 98% extraction. The proposed technology could represent a good opportunity to recover copper from sulphide concentrates in a clean, simple and profitable way.

"This paper briefly reviews some of the gravity research done at McGill University and current Canadian operating practices, with emphasis on results of interest for operators. The following topics are addressed: security, economics, predicting recovery, circuit optimization, unit selection and final upgrading. Emphasis is placed on the Knelson Concentrator.The topic of security and economics are addressed jointly, in terms of the place of the gravity circuit in the mill flowsheet. Actual plant experience is drawn upon to identify potential problems and actual solutions.Predicting primary recovery is linked with a characterization of the ore, the choice of a circuit, and the fraction of the bleed used. Factors such as feed preparation, preliminary upgrading, fraction of recycle treated, ability to recover fines and location of the bleed are discussed.Final upgrading is achieved almost only by tabling and smelting. This can lead to fine gold recovery problems when more effective units are used upstream. Alternatives are discussed.IntroductionResearch on gold recovery by gravity over the past eight years has associated McGill University with a number of gold producers. This paper attempts to review the information gathered from a practical perspective. Some of the information was generated in McGill University's labs, some gathered at plant site, and some was shared by operators."

"Fluid inclusion studies from the Cinola deposit indicate low salinities and low C01 contents of the ore fluid. This supports a suggestion that the mineralizing fluids originated from pore water in the fluviatile host rock (mid-Miocene Skonun Formation). Bimodal distribution of filling temperatures suggests the existence of at least two temperature regimes centred on 160°C and 270°C during mineral deposition. Independent age and stratigraphic evidence indicates that depth of mineralization is between 1.1 and 1. 8 km, corresponding to a hydrostatic load of between 110 and 170 bars.RESUMELes donnees sur les inclusions fluides du gisement Cinola indiquent de basses salinites et basses teneurs en C01 . This paper explores Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) reporting practices within the mining industry. Specifically, this paper investigates how and why a mining company makes voluntary reporting decisions to include the GRI indicators that may be considered ?negative? to the company?s reputation. Due to the voluntary nature of the GRI Guidelines, a GRI adopter is not legally obligated to report every GRI indicator. Not surprisingly, empirical studies that evaluated the extent to which companies? sustainability reports meet the GRI requirements (Guenther, Hoppe, & Poser, 2006; Morhardt, Baird, & Freeman, 2002; Samy, Odemilin, & Bampton, 2010; Skouloudis, Evangelinos, & Kourmousis, 2009) have found that reporting practices of the companies under their studies are well below the standards reflected in the GRI Guidelines. An influential study by Clarkson et al (2008) uses economic-based and socio-political theories to explain variation in companies? environmental disclosure. They have found that, as predicted by economic-based theory, superior environmental performers disclosed more ?hard? (i.e. verifiable) environmental information. Inferior environmental performers are found to disclose more ?soft? (i.e., not easily verifiable) claims, which is consistent with socio-political theories (Clarkson, Li, Richardson, & Vasvari, 2008). However, this study and the existing literature do not adequately explain why a company may act in a way that cannot be explained by economic-based and socio-political theories, for example, why it would report some negative soft data that it is not required to report. This paper intends to address this literature gap. GRI reporting by a Canadian mining company, which I would like to call ?Company C?, is used as a case study for this paper. Company C was selected for this research because in addition to ?positive? information, its GRI-based sustainability report also includes both hard and soft ?negative? information such as grievances. Research methods include interviewing Company C?s employees who are involved in preparing GRI reports and reviewing documents prepared both by the company and by external parties. I find that integrative social contracts theory (ISCT) offers a valuable explanation to Company C?s reporting practices. From the ISCT perspective, Company C?s management appears to feel that the company is obligated under social contracts to be transparent. Therefore, Company C disclosed both positive and negative social and environmental information to the public because the management appeared to think that it is the right thing to do. At the same time, being transparent about the bad news gave the company an opportunity to conclude that it had done something to avoid future occurrence of the negative incidents. Therefore, I propose that, in addition to the economic and socio-political theories that are more often used in literature, insights from ISCT are instrumental in improving our understanding of the corporate non-financial reporting practices phenomenon.

"The Cordilleran region of western Canada includes most of British Columbia and the Yukon and pares of Alberta and the Northwest Territories. The western part of this region was for about 50 years the principal mineral producing area of the Dominion. It lost this distinction in 1907 when production from the mines of the Canadian Shield took the lead, but it continues to provide about 15 percent of the total Canadian production. In 1945 the total mineral production of British Columbia and the Yukon was valued at $65,302,900, of which about 80 percent was derived from metals.This paper is intended to serve as an introduction co the more derailed Cordilleran papers. Part I includes a brief synopsis of the complex geology and diverse types of mineralization in the region and Parr II collates the main structural principles exemplified in the derailed papers, and draws some conclusions regarding the application of this information to prospecting."

The safety dogs proved ineffective and permitted the cage to crash through to the bottom of the shaft, with disastrous results.Following this accident, the Ontario Government appointed a Technical Committee to investigate The Safety of Hoisting Equipment and Hoisting Practice in Ontario Mines. This Committee consisted of Dr. C. R. Young (Chairman) and Professors T. R. Loudon, E. A. Allcut, V. G. Smith, and Lloyd M. Pidgeon. The Ontario Mining Association (at the request of the Ontario Government) also appointed a Committee consisting of Messrs. R. E. Dye, R. D. Parker, and R. L. Healy."

INTRODUCTORY THE earliest known case of transmission of natural gas by pipe lines was early in the Christian era when the Chinese used bamboo pipes to transport natural gas from surface seepages to heat brine for the recovery of salt. Since that time many materials have been used as conduits-hollow wooden legs, wood stave pipe, day tile, cast iron, and, finally -since about 130 years ago - steel pipe. Even then, this new material came into use rather . slowly for, as recently as 80 years ago, wood pipe was still being used. However, as techniques were developed to take advantage of the properties of steel, this material gradually replaced all ethers for the transportation of gas for longer and longer distances at ever increasing pressures. In 1912, one of the longest pipe lines of its size at that time was built-this was a 16-inch line bringing gas from Bow Island to Calgary, a distance of 170 miles. We have been able to find records of only two ether such lines at that time-one a 185-mile 16-inch line from Vivian, Louisiana, to Little Rock, Arkansas, completed in the summer of 1911, the ether a 280-mile line from West Virginia to Toledo, Ohio. This last ? mentioned line was reported in a magazine article of September, 1912, but no indication was given of its size on completion date. It is apparent, therefore, that modern high pressure transmission of natural gas is a technique less than forty years old.

THE Northwest Territories covers a very large area-more than one-third of all Canada-and its most northern point, Cape Columbia in Ellesmere island, is distant only 500 miles from the Pole. Our first knowledge of the Arctic Archipelago, of which Ellesmere island forms a part, resulted from a gold-mining venture in Queen Elizabeth's reign. The English navigators of that time were eager to find a north-westerly and shorter and Jess hazardous route to the riches of China and Japan than that which Magellan had discovered, but they were unaware that the continent then known to bar a direct route extended in great width far to the north. Frobisher was one of these navigators. He reached in 1576 the bay in Baffin island now named after him, convinced that he had found a passage connecting the Atlantic with Asiatic seas. Forced to re-turn after ordeals in which ice, wind, and Eskimos flayed formidable parts, he brought back, among other novelties, a piece o black stone which had been picked up casually by one of his officers, and gave a little of it to the wife of one of the venturers, or financial backers of the enterprise. To quote now from Hakluyt: ? 'She by chance threw and burned it in the fire so long that , at length being taken forth and quenched in a little vinegar, it glistered with a bright marquesset of gold. Whereupon the matter being called in sorne question, it was brought to certain goldminers in London to make assay thereof, who indeed found it to hold gold and that very richly for the quantity." On the strength of this, the venturers, anticipating much profit, launched a second expedition to secure more of this stone, and 143 persons, including 14 miners and finers, set forth in 1577 and returned the same year, with, however, 200 tons of another mineral. Influenced by glowing accounts of veritable mountains of this mineral and by assays made after "additaments"-that is how "salting" in those days was described-the venturers, including Elizabeth, supplied funds for erecting a smelter and refinery at Dartford and outfitting a stilllarger expedition. And so, in 1578, fifteen ships departed with the Queen's blessing, for the same remote shores. After many mishaps, they returned with over 1,000 tons of the mineral, but when it yielded very little of value at the works in Dartford, the? Company of Venturers was forced into liquidation. Though our first prospector and miner was rather inconsiderate of the investors, he proved the existence of an archipelago, hitherto unknown, and secured much information about the new land and its dwellers.

The safe-level dilution of low-level radioactive wastes in large volumes of selected granular material is proposed as an alternative method of permanent waste disposal to current Canadian practice of concentration and encapsulation. Accepting the fact that a "background level" of radioactivity exists throughout the world, the authors feel that the concept of controlled dilution of radioactive wastes to a level in keeping with "background" is a plausible alternative to current thinking on the subject and is worthy of equal consideration.

EKATI? Diamond mine is located 300km northwest of Yellowknife and 200 km south of the Arctic Circle in the Northwest Territories of Canada. The site is a remote tundra area with continuous permafrost and is in the Canadian Shield. EKATI? is the first diamond mine in Canada and is operated by BHP Diamonds Inc., which is a part of BHP Minerals. BHP Diamonds Inc. is an incorporated company based in Vancouver, BC. The mine is a joint venture of BHP Diamonds Inc. (51%), Dia Met Minerals Ltd. (29%), Charles E. Fipke (10%) and Dr. Stewart L. Blusson (10%). The mining area lies within the 10,960 ha land leases held by the joint venture. The total claim block covers 344,000 ha. To date over 136 kimberlite structures have been identified within the claim. Five of these provide the basis for the present mine plan with three others identified for future inclusion. At full capacity the mine will produce 4.5 million carats per year, approximately 4 % of world production and employ approximately 600 people, with over 33% being Aboriginal from the Northwest Territories.

Scattered outliers of the Chibougamau Formation and the more continuous Mistassini and Otish Groups lie unconformably on an Archean basement abutting the Grenville Front. All the Aphebian rocks are deformed and offset by faulting related to the Front. The older Chibougamau Formation is exclusively elastic in origin, whereas the two later, time-equivalent groups include carbonatedominated (Mistassini) and elastic (Otish) sequences. Known syngenetic mineralization within these formations is limited to various radioactive showings in the Mistassini and Otish elastics, and the iron formations of the upper Mistassini Group. Three distinct types of epigenetic mineralization occur within the sedimentary rocks; pitchblende fracture fillings in all types of rocks in the Otish Group, widespread Mississippi-Valley type galenasphalerite showings at certain levels in the Mistassini Group, and chalcopyrite-pyrite bearing veins in or near argillaceous horizons of the Mistassini Group and Chibougamau Formation. The Otish elastic basin is part of a large area of the central Ungava peninsula which contains a variety of radioactive showings, the most promising being of the unconformity type, The final control for many individual showings appears to be local physico-chemical changes within faults and fracture zones. The overall structural control is in part supplied by the faulting episode related to the Grenville Front, which in turn limits the mineralization to the depth zone appropriate for open fracturing. The lead-zinc showings exhibit a strong stratigraphic control as well as close ties to secondary porosity developed by f aulting. The ore solutions were probably derived during the low grade metamorphism of the formations. Chalcopyrite- pyrite veins have provi ded the only mine production (Icon Mine) to date. They appear later than the low-grade metamorphic fluid circulation, and deposition is related to favourable structures and stratigraphy. The veins are clearly related to major faults. Thus, whereas stratigraphic settings appropriate to individual types of deposits are important, an overall structural setting may be demonstrated for a wide range of mineralizations. Detailed structural interpretations of individual showings may be the most fruitful pursuit in developing a concrete prospecting model.

"A simulation study of the fill factor of a drum mill was conducted using two types of grinding media: balls and tetraballpebs. Each medium was composed of equal number of grinding bodies having equal weight but different shape. The difference was in the density of the two grinding media.Standard spherical grinding bodies (balls), which were used in practice, and equivalent (by weight) grinding bodies in the shape of spheroidal tetrahedrons (tetraballpebs) were studied. The simulation was conducted in a module of a 1.2 m diameter drum mill, whose length exceeded twice the diameter of the corresponding grinding body. The grinding balls had a few percent (3 to 6) higher fill factor than the grinding tetraballpebs in the same shell.Vertical sections of the grinding medium were taken across the studied shell module along its axis. They showed the location of each grinding body in the fill volume. Defects in the packing of the grinding bodies and the contacts between them and with the inner surface of the shell were also show. Differences in the contact points of the balls and the tetraballpebs were noted. For the tetraballpebs, we observed contacts both between the spherical surfaces and with the edges and vertices of the grinding bodies.The topography of the grinding media is shown visually.INTRODUCTIONThe grinding balls have been studied extensively. It is the traditional grinding medium in ore processing industry. The parameter characterising the grinding medium is its density. It is the mass of the grinding medium per unit of volume. The parameter may have a range of values. It depends on:• The physical properties of the material they are made of;• The shape of the grinding body;• The dimensions of the body;• Size distribution of the grinding bodies in the grinding media.In comminution, the fill factor of the mill shell is the process parameter that is representative of the grinding medium. Some publications have indicated the disadvantages of ball grinding. For example, Wu, Xiang, Glen, and Duan (2008) note in the analysis of the mechanism of grinding that the balls are not the best grinding media and disadvantages include among others:• Easy over-grinding resulting from the point contact between the balls;• Attrition surface is the smallest in the grinding media;• Poor selective exposure of minerals resulting from the accidental and often significantly more powerful impact on the feed;• The grinding efficiency drops as the fineness of grind is increased;In the Handbook of mineral processing, Polkin (1950) noted that the shape of the grinding bodies determines the volume of the void spaces therein and therefore the shape affects the grinding efficiency per unit of volume of the grinding medium."

Operating and Social Considerations from a Contractor?s Perspective

Arsenic extraction from Chilean copper concentrates up to nearly 99% was achieved, using hydrothermal reactions. Arsenic appears in nature in more than 200 mineral species, being arsenopyrite (FeAsS), enargite (Cu3AsS4), and tennantite (Cu12As4S13) the most common species. In addition, arsenic is present in a large amount of copper concentrates, produced in northern Chile. Medical statistics show that in northern Chile, the amount of cancer to the lung, skin and bladder are the highest in the country. The latter situation, demonstrates the importance of studying metallurgical processes that do not generate atmospheric pollution. The hydrometallurgical processes such as hydrothermal treatment in autoclave reactors, do not produce gaseous emissions. On the other hand, the arsenic remains in solution from where it can be transformed in scorodite by widely known methods. Previous works about hydrothermal treatment of enargite have shown the feasibility of transforming the enargite of the copper concentrates into chalcocite or mineral species of the chalcocite family such as djurleite, digenite and for this reason enrich the concentrate in copper and pass the arsenic to solution. For this research, two Chilean copper concentrates were used, concentrate 1 with 5.5% arsenic and concentrate 3 with 1.8% arsenic. These concentrates were subjected to a complete chemical and mineralogical characterization. Later these concentrates were carry out to batch tests of hydrothermal treatment. Also, these concentrates were subjected to grinding to have different particle sizes. For the hydrothermal tests, a liter capacity Autoclave Engineer reactor was used. Characteristic of this reactor was the maximum temperature 350°C, 5000 PSI pressure, and 900 rpm agitation speed. Kinetic tests were carried out with the two concentrates maintaining the same solid: liquid relationship, the same agitation velocity and the variables studied were treatment temperature, time of reaction, concentration of copper in the solution and grain size of the concentrates. The conclusions of the study indicated arsenic extraction of the order of 93.98% from the concentrate 1 and arsenic extraction of the order of 98.74% from concentrate 3. After the hydrothermal treatment, the solids and solutions were characterized chemically, by electron microscopy and X ray diffraction. Also the solids were characterized by grainsize through a particle size analyzer (MICROTRAC). Results of batch treatment shows that arsenic can be release almost completely from real copper concentrates using this hydrothermal process and the next stage will be a scale up process in order obtain results for pilot plant design. INTRODUCTION Arsenic is an impurity that appears associated with copper minerals forming enargite, tennantite, tetrahedrite, and that due to the pyrometallurgical treatment either in conversion or roasting furnaces, it goes into the atmosphere together with the sulfur dioxide. A great quantity of literature can be found to eliminate arsenic or try to separate arsenic from copper. The methods used are mainly leaching processes with or without pressure (Padilla, Jerez & Ruiz, 2015) with different reagents like chloride media (Herreros, Fuentes, Quiroz & Viñals, 2003) or chloride media with sulphuric acid (Riveros & Dutrizac, 2008) or sodium hypochlorite (Mihajlovic, Strbac, Zivkovic, Kovacevic & Stehernik, 2007). It is known too that Chile is the first copper producer in the world and a great quantity of its minerals are in the north of the country, in Antofagasta.

"IntroductionThe Beaverlodge District is an important mineralogenic province of pitchblende and occupies about 1300 square kilometres centred on Beaverlodge Lake near the north shore of Lake Athabasca in northwest Saskatchewan (Fig. 1). Uranium City is the main settlement of the area and is serviced by scheduled aircraft from Edmonton, some 700 km to the southwest, and from Prince Albert which lies a similar distance to the south.During the summer, boats and barges supply the area from the railhead to Fort McMurray via the Athabasca River and Lake Athabasca, a distance of about 550 km. For the past few years a winter road has been maintained across Lake Athabasca to Cluff Lake to connect with Highway 155.The topography of the area is typical of the Precambrian Shield with generally low relief and a disorganized drainage of numerous lakes separated by hummocky rock ridges, muskeg and drift-covered areas. Local topography in the area is, however, extremely rugged, particularly south and east of Beaverlodge Lake, where resistant rocks form prominent hills and ridges extending as much as 180 m above lake level. Rock exposures are abundant and form over 50 per cent of the land area.History of Exploration and DevelopmentEconomic interest was first aroused by Tyrrell (1896) who described an occurrence of iron formation at Fish Hook Bay; however, subsequent evaluation of the deposit indicated it to be uneconomic."

"The State of the EnvironmentRecent data from a State of the Environment report prepared in January 1991 and released in April (see references) , indicates that the physical and biological environment across Canada is deteriorating in some important ways. "Chromite ore is one of the essential raw materials for ferroalloy and steel industry. Boula-Nuasahi belt of Sukinda region, Odisha, is the only resource of chrome ore in India. The Indian deposits are typically characterized as ferruginous and siliceous type ores. Chrome ore is generally mined by open cast mechanized mining method in these areas. The run-off-mine (ROM) ore from the various mines is sent to beneficiation plant via stack yard for further up gradation. The chrome ore beneficiation plant (COB) has two major circuits: comminution (feed preparation) circuit and beneficiation circuit. In the comminution circuit, the ore is reduced to <1 mm size ( for complete liberation of chromite) from -220 mm size in stage wise crushing (primary and secondary crusher) followed by screening and single stage grinding in a ball mill. Fraction having size <1 mm is further upgraded in the beneficiation circuit to produce three different concentrates having specific chemical composition and Cr: Fe ratio. The beneficiation plant is a complex circuit comprising of combination of unit operations (spiral concentrator, Floatex density separator, hydrocyclone, wet shaking tables). In the recent years the overall performance efficiency (grade and recovery) of the beneficiation circuit got affected with numerous changes in the run-off-mine ore quality (physical and chemical), mineralogical composition, etc.In this article, attempts made for improving the performance of chrome ore beneficiation circuit is discussed. The approach adopted and practical problems encountered while the process were also highlighted. The results of the trials has shown an improvement in the performance of the cyclone (d50 : 56 µm – 40 µm) and chromite losses into tailing to <12%.INTRODUCTIONChromite has a wide range of application, from refractories to metallurgical industries, and from chemical to non-ferrous alloy industries. Chromium ore (Fe2+, Mg) [Cr, Al, Fe3+]2O4) occurs exclusively in rocks formed by the intrusion and solidification of molten lava or magma which is very rich in the heavy, iron containing minerals such as pyroxene and olivine. With the richness of silica and iron, the chrome ores are broadly classified as siliceous type and ferruginous type. Pure chromite with composition FeCr2O4 is rare because magnesium usually substitutes for ferrous ion and aluminum and ferrous ion substitutes for chromium. Generally the associated gangue minerals are talc, quartz, hematite, goethite, limonite, gabro, serpentine, anorthosite, dunite, pyroxinite, etc. Around 96% of the chromite ore production is consumed for metallurgical applications of which 94% is converted into different grades of ferrochrome i.e., high carbon ferrochrome and charge chrome as shown in Figure 1. Stainless steel being the leading consumer of ferrochrome, any change in the dynamics of the stainless steel industry impacts overall chrome ore demands significantly."
